"It was never quiet, that's for sure. We never really talk in our house, just mostly yell. There's always something going on because someone is causing drama."
Rit grinned, her eyes bright.
"It was fun being the youngest since I could get away with a lot of things, but it was also the hardest too. I was expected to take over the family business with my brothers."

Thali smiled, "Sounds like our house right now," She said. "Two toddlers sure makes the house seem like a zoo." She paused and nodded. "I know how that feels. My biological parents were the same way. They wanted me to take over."

"It's actually not so bad that I did take over, it gives me a chance to do things I enjoy doing. The only trouble is that I am doing it alone, and it can get hard at times when work piles up. My two older siblings usually help though when something like that happens, so. . ."
Rit didn't really know why she was spilling out her life's story to this other person. She didn't need to tell more than really necessary for communication, but talks about family were always fun and led usually into detail anyone.
"What business did/does your biological family run?"

For a long time, Thali was silent. "Let's talk about something else." She suggested. She kept her tone light, but she was troubled. She wasn't exactly willing to bring up the past with someone she'd just met.
"Where did you grow up?" She asked. "Around here?"

"Hm, I guess so. We've just always been here for as long as I remember so I suppose I may have even been born here. I spend most of my days at the garage working up to my arms in cars, planes and boats, so I don't know much of the outside. Not that I can't get around - I'm just saying I don't frequent places."
Rit didn't like to think much on that, because when she usually went out her brothers were by her side.
"How about you?"

Thali nodded, "I was raised here." She said, "My parents traveled alot because of their jobs-- but we always came back." She paused. "I mean, I know Barton like..." She tried to think of a good metaphor, and couldn't. "Well... It's home. It's the only place I've ever really considered home." She shrugged.

"I'd like to get around and travel, but I have an obligation to stay home with my sisters and brothers. They're counting on me, and in a way that really dampens one's chances for freedom."
Rit smiled sheepishly.

Lack of freedom. That was something Thali could relate with. She nodded. "I know how that feels." She said. She paused, there could only be one reason siblings would depend on one.
"You mean younger brothers and sisters, don't you?" She asked, curious.

"No, no one's younger than me unless you count the cousins. I'm the youngest of the main branch of the duShepe family, but that's the way our traditions usually pass - the youngest take over and the olders support them. It's supposed to mean that we have our youth as our focus and the wisdom of those who have done it before."
It made sense, sort of.
"What I think it really means is no one wants the job so they pan it off."

Thali nodded, though she didn't really understand the concept. "I can't say I can relate," She said. "Our family.. well, no one was really in charge.. I think we shared duties."
She paused. "Do you like animals?" She asked.

"Animals? I can't say I really like them, but they don't bother me at all. We don't have any pets in our garage because everyone's so busy, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a dog or something."
Rit wondered why the sudden change.
"How about you?"

Thali blinked, and nodded. "My husband's not too keen on animals, really." She grinned at the memory of Ben's reaction to their most recent addition. "But both Josh and I adore them. He found a kitten buried in snow a few weeks ago-- I didn't think it'd recover. It was as if he willed it to live; she's been driving Ben mad ever since."
She paused, "Of course, he acted the same way when we first got Josh." She said. "He's kinda strange that way..."

"Ah. My brother Mast doesn't speak much, but I think he likes animals. He gets along well enough with them and I'd always see him sleeping in a tree with the birds in our backyard. He also really liked our neighbor Chenda's dog, Toby, when all the rest of us couldn't stand him."
Rit seemed easier when talking about Mast then she did about Jack, which was odd.
"And yeah, men are odd like that. Who ever really knows what they're thinking."

Thali nodded in understanding. "Men are strange." She said in agreement, looking towards Josh. "I'm hoping to adopt a girl-- I'm outnumbered three to one." She grinned. "Unless you count the cats. They aren't much on talking, though."

"Ah, there are four girls in our family and four boys, so it's not so bad. We all are so used to one another the calmness can sometimes be a little frightening."
Rit thought about being outnumbered, but it never really worked.
"It would be creepy if cats could talk. I don't think animals are meant to have human speech."
