"Fate can be either kind or cruel, depending on her mere whim. I'm glad that we seem to have fallen in her favor today," Altair chuckled, smiling at Lumiere once more. Such a beautiful, refined lady...it'd be a shame to only have her company to share for a single day.
And why should that be true?
"My lady, I hope you'll not take this the wrong way, or believe me rude for thinking so...but for what reason should this meeting today be our last? Nor why should this meeting end with the setting of the sun? Afterall, travel is much more pleasant with company, especially with such charming company. While the weather seems determined to make this land as cold and unwelcoming as the North for the time being, I say that we deny it so."
He walked for a bit, privately assuring himself that he was asking her what he thought he was asking her.
"As I find myself leading alone," he continued with a nod, "what would you say to joining me and leading at my side?"

The alpha was stunned into silence, and it all but took her will to remain walking. Slowly, she processed his words, studying his expressions. Join him..? As in, becoming his pack's (and Altair's)..? Her thoughts became more rapid, each thought never finishing itself.
Was she being led on..? No, surely one such as Altair wouldn't ply with her heartstrings. And yes, she had previous experience with leading a pack. And she was also, currently, a loner in this large territory.
Why was she being blown away by such an offer?
"I would say," she paused softly, choosing her next words carefully. "that I would be honored, to lead by your side, Altair."

Altair's heart felt as if it had wings of its own and his steps were lighter than they'd been in some time. It took all he had to keep the rest of his posture from betraying his pleasure.
Still, he took a moment to smile and lean in to nudge her shoulder lightly with his muzzle, chuckling. "'Tis my honor, my lady, to have someone so beautiful and cultured by my side."
Granted, she was not the first to join his pack...but she was the first female of equal stature. Any lingering thoughts of loneliness were dashed away like the falling snow, leaving Altair's heart light and spirited. Slowly, but surely, he was gathering others to his side, his cause...the search of life's beauty and glory. At the same time, he was chipping away at a more secretive goal...
...ensuring that the peacock male never again had to feel the cold, steel-like grip of loneliness in the middle of the night ever again.
