He rolled his eyes and looked in Loyd's direction. "Listen, I'd be glad to help you win at Candy Land," he said sarcastically, "but what makes you believe that these people had anything special, just because their computer is still running? It could just be a back up generator for all we know." He looked back out the window and smiled, the idea of dying somewhere better than this hellhole popping up in his mind. "The Shades don't come out at night. We just move during the day and stay in buildings that are safe," he said, pulling out the map that he'd kept in his pockets. Red X's for the overrun, and green O's for safe ones...we'd have to zigzag to get to the grey house near the intersection....ehh, there's no intersection, it's just a big rock now, he thought quickly while he looked towards one of their possible destinations. He sighed and moved next to Loyd, plopping down on the space next to him. He stared at a dead rat that was cuaght in the wall, boredom strecthing on his glum face.

User ImageLooking down onto Sarah from his positon, Tsuyo smiled, trying to comfort and reassure her. In his mind though, it was a completly different story. He wasn't sure how the out come of this fight was going to be, maybe they won't make it through the night, maybe they will win entirely from this new information. He almost forgot he was smiling at Sarah, so he regathered himself and added a few words to hopefully make her feel better. "Get some sleep, we can figure out what is going on tomorrow. You need your rest and energy." He could tell that she was far to anxious to go to sleep, which concerned him. It was obvious that she found herself to be the weakest member of the group, but her abilities made her probably the most valuable. The group wouldn't last without her, Tsuyo himself has had some pretty bad injuries, and without Sarah, he probably wouldn't be standing there.

Tsuyo looked up to the sky, observing it's vast array of colors. Darkness will be upon them within a few hours, at the most. Sadly that means Sarah will probably will only get a short nap, but it's better than nothing at all. It was surprising that they haven't gone insane from tension of the nerves.

User ImageWith clenched teeth, Loyd felt anger begin to boil up inside him. He took a deep, relaxing breath, "One, this thing is special because not even generators are running, or have you not noticed that even guns will not fire anymore?" He turned to Jekyll, "And now how do you expect we leave? Where do you think the Shade hide during the day? Do you think I'm talking quietly for my health?" Hoping his questions will start turning the gears within his companions head. "I am most certainly glad that you are so calm in this situation, and envy that attribute, but you have to look at all the facts before making hasty decisions." He didn't notice anything special about the game, and closed the program. He could still hear the slight movements of the lower floors. Night is on it's way again, and he wanted to come up with something that can can possibly get them through it. "I'm sorry if I offended you, I am just fustrated." He added with a sigh.

He got up and walked to the door to the hallway and looked under it, reminding him exactly why he was safe. They were on the top floor and the hallway had a skylight that made it impossible for the Shade to sneak up on them. This will only work until night came, so it won't matter for long. His mind was racing, he couldn't hold an idea that could get them out of here, he couldn't think of a way to allow them all to leave alive.

He walked back to the window and looked towards the red sky, breathing deeply. "We could always leave through the window, jerk. Ever think about that?" he mumbled under his breath, feeling the shades stirring in the room below him. He looked down and grunted, his face contracted in disgust. He fought the urge to jam his blade down through the cracks in the planking in an attempt to stab one of them. He stopped his hands from moving to his swords and sighed. He pulled the curtains over the windows, enveloping the room in utter dark, so the shades or dragoons wouldn't be able to see them. He sighed and shook his head. Pulling the chair away from the computer, he plopped himself down in it and fell asleep, his head resting in his arms.

User ImageStanding up Loyd moved over to the window and looked down the five story apartment complex. If you want to jump, fine by me. He thought, though he didn't mean it. It was obvious that they were just fustrated with the minimal supplies of food and the feeling of not progressing. He was tired, but with night beginning to come, he couldn't sleep, those Shade come out at night, and they needed to be prepared for the worst. An idea popped into his head, one that could actually work. "Hey, Jekyll!?" Loyd asked, "You just gave me a better idea... Sure we could jump this five story building to our deaths, but why not get out to the skylight onto the roof and take the fire escape down?" It could work, the hallway still had light defending them, and the roof was well lit. Every building is to come standard with fire escapes, so getting down wouldn't be all too difficult either.

He had to admit, if it wasn't for Jekyll tell them to go out from the side of the building, this thought would never had to come to mind. Loyd almost felt embarassed to get such a great idea from such a lame suggestion, but he didn't care too much about it as now they should be able to leave here with their lives. He walked to the door, "Does it sound like a plan?" Asking his companion, hoping for some sort of approval.

He listened to Loyd's plan in silence, breathing deeply and calmly, dreaming of bluer skies. Finally, he grunted and lifted his head. "Loyd, sure it could work...but there's not enough light, in case you haven't noticed...what do we have, a few more hours of light? Two at the least? That's not enough to get to a safe place. Wait till morning and we'll give it a try...but jumping out through the window would just be easier...less worries, seeing as how we wouldn't be able to worry."
He sighed and rested his head in his arms again. His clothes smelled of fire and ash, or old dirt and dust. I wonder what these smelled like before...I only had these after the Plague...how many people had thought about buying this, how many people will never be able to buy this? No one deserves to die before their time...no one.

User ImageWanting at first to protest, Loyd re-analyzed the situation, and Jekyll was right. At first, he figured that this short time would be more than enough to find a good safe zone, but after thinking it over, that was too hasty to assume. He doesn't even know where a good safe spot is, let alone how long it would take to get there. "Okay, I guess that would be best." He said, taking a seat. He couldn't stand being here any longer, but he had to be patient. Those who weren't patient often rushed off into their demise.

What concerned him more, was what Jekyll added afterwards. Could Jekyll really be intending suicide? This concerned him mostly because Jekyll was one of the better fighters of the group, if he were to die, Loyd was unsure what would necissarily happen. Looking up at the ceiling, Loyd waited for the impending darkness.

"Damn right...now shut up and go to sleep like a good boy." Jekyll sighed and crawled to the ground, breathing deeply and waiting for sleep as the screams of the shades started. The building began to rumble as they moved about, shaking him as he stared at the crumbling ceiling. It was like living an inch from train tracks, but soon he fell asleep, least than remember the horros that they'd face, and the horrors that they would face.

She came in through the window, the one her boys had looked out of with such irresistibly soulful, melancholy eyes, although she'd never tell anyone that she considered them hers, not ever. Even in this sort of scenario, where hope was tainted bitter and love had no place, both guys still had their pride, the volatile Jekyll, the rational Loyd.

The broken glass that lined the top of the opening scraped against the skin of her arm, leaving a shallow scratch, but she wasn't bothered by the pain, only by her carelessness. Once safely in the room, Mercedes let out the breath she'd been holding and glanced at the coffee table that held her supplies, where she had left them so to not be weighed down in her climb.

Her attention then turned to her companions; she walked over to Loyd and sank into the chair next to him. "I counted six of them in the rooms below," she said, slouching back and shutting her eyes in exhaustion and despair. "And it sounds like there's more from the other stories. We need to get the hell out of here, or find some nice thick closet to hide in and get wasted." It was a morbid joke; Mercy really doubted that inebriation would lesson the pain of getting ripped apart. She noticed Jekyll's still form on the floor and laughed incredulously. "JekJek, what do you think you're doing?"

He groaned and sat halfway up, resting his head in his hands. "Dammit girl, I was dreaming of an island....which brings me to a question that I would like to ask...how come I can never get to sleep without someone talking to me? Between you two and the Shade's down below, I'll be awake when I'm a skeleton." He sighed and growled, stretching his creaking limbs to their full height. Stretching a bit, he walked towards the others, ruffling Mercy's hair as he walked by. He sat crosslegged next to them, his head lying in his crossed arms. He sighed and punched the wall next to him. "Could someone tell those crazy kids below to shut up?!" he roared, angry at the ruckuss that the slippery monsters were making.

Mercy laughed aloud, first tickled by Jekyll's hand in her hair (as if it wasn't messy enough already), and then his absurd outburst at the Shades, as if they were merely young and rude neighbors. It was a harmless gesture, really... until the sun went down. But by then they'd have a lot more to worry about.

"How can you even want to sleep in a place like this?" Mercedes asked, slightly surprised. "It makes me uneasy." In her mind's eye she saw the walls of the bathroom splattered with blood, the floor covered with the entrails of one body, the bathtub holding what was left of the other. Mercy herself had found the last one, when she raided the closet for anything that looked useful. The frozen expression of terror on the woman's face was haunting.

"I know I said we couldn't leave until we figured out what happened to these guys and why the hell their computer still works, but after seeing as many Shades as I did, I'm kinda against spending the night here. Where's the map?" She knew already that this hideout was the only 'safe spot' for quite a ways, even if it wasn't any more, but they might be able to find a better, more defensible building and fortify it before the sun went down, if they did some very quick thinking and moving.

After heaving herself up out of the chair and towards the table, she strapped her belt on and shook her canteen. A quarter full. She unscrewed the cap and took a tiny mouthful, her eyes lowering. Okay, so this was one heck of a bleak day, but they'd been through worse, and they'd manage. Promise.

User ImageEven Loyd couldn't help but chuckle at Jekyll's remark to the Shade, but he did wonder if the Shade understood them, as he swore he heard them screech back. It may just have been them reacting to the noise though. He shook the idea out of his head, no point on dwell over something so insignificant. "What if we don't get the next one in time? We don't have supplies to keep us well, and we can only do so much against the Shade." He asked this as he heard Mercy ask for the map. He didn't want to end up facing the Shade in open area, much better to fight them off in tight spaces than in an area where they can flank them.

Of course in tight spaces they could be over-runned. He sighed a bit, considering the options. Loyd most definitly did not want to stay here for much longer, but at the same time, did not want to go out on a suicide run. He decided that it probably didn't matter either way, both ways had about a fifty-fifty chance of succeeding. "I don't care what we do anymore, I just want to make it through another day..." His fists clenched, squeezing his pant legs, he felt so useless now, he could barely fight, can rarely decide on actions, and not to mention can't even figure out how to live through another night. He wondered if it would be better if he wasn't around, he only slowed them down anyways, they may have a chance to make it to another place if he stayed behind. He could feel tears filling his eyes, but he held them back, making sure he didn't show his fustration.

He chuckled, staring off into space as he imagined himself on a pile of rubble, fighting an alarming number of Shades, hacking and slashing at them with his blades. He was scarred, battered and bloodied, but he still let out a roar and charged into their ranks, claws slicing at his skin, his crimson steel glinting in the sun- he sighed and held his stomache, remembering when he had first met them, how the Shade had scatched his torso. He still had the scar to prove it to. "How would you want to die? I mean, I would like an honorable death, and one that would finish all of my current goals. And hopefully when I die, my arm might fly outwards and kill my murderer with my swords." He looked at the others, his voice matching that of his somewhat old age, and allowing his stress to crack somewhat through it. "You might say that you wouldn't mind dying, and yet, when you're faced with it, you don't want to, to many things left undone...are you two to young to die? Am I even though I'm as old as a mountain? Or am I to old, gone beyong my resourcefullness? Are we just three grains of sand in a desert?"

Mercy sighed, moving back towards her companions and wrapping her arms around Loyd a friendly, reassuring hug. "What ever we do, we'll make it," she told him firmly, reading his distress. Though normally analytical and objective, Loyd was probably overwhelmed by their situation. From what she'd heard of his past, he'd had a fairly easy life, smart and by association successful, before the plague hit. Feeling lost happened to all of them; it was natural, though god forbid they all lost hope at the same time.

She slid away from Loyd, now intrigued by Jekyll's odd sort of... philosophy, some form of it. "The desert representing human kind, or the entire universe?" she asked, smiling as she sat down next to Jekyll. "If it's the former, the desert's kinda shrunk to a meager handful of sand." But her face grew solemn as she considered his real question. "Yes, it'd be nice to die an honorable death and all, but you and I would be so much more useful alive, or at least continuing to be. We promised to help people, didn't we? Even if we came too late to help these people..." Her voice lowered, eyes misty with compassion. "We have a duty to carry out. Don't die filled with the rage of killing your enemies; die with certainty that you've helped to rebuild our world."

User ImageWith a heavy sigh, part relief, part discomfort, Loyd looked over to Jekyll. It was odd on how Jekyll kept speaking as if he were ancient. "Are you not the same age as I?" Loyd asked, remembering asking Jekyll his age a while back ago. "Nevermind, it doesn't matter." Loyd forced the thought out of his head, assuming Jekyll was just trying to be philosophical. Standing up and rubbing his eyes, Loyd walked over to the sink and turned it on once again, watching the water pour from its nozzle. He produced a small grin as he quickly went to the bathroom and turned on the tub and sink within, once again smiling to find it all worked. It was dirty, but he didn't care as he was not planning on drinking it.

Loyd walked into the bedroom and went to the dresser, after grabbing some dusty clothing, he walked back to the sink and clogged it with a pair of socks, and continued onto the bathroom. He repeated the process with the tub and sink in the bathroom and looked to the door leading to the hall. "Hey, I need someone to come with me, I'm not leaving without a farewell." It would seem as though Loyd has recovered his confidence, for he smiled as he watched the water start pouring onto the floor.
