"Oh! You can be our watchman! And you can talk in secret drumbeat code to the other watchtowers!" Kaimi grinned at Rook. The fire seemed to already be warming the inside of their fortress and the walls that Bishop was putting up seemed to be very strong. Taking another sheet, Kaimi hung it up like a door, so that they'd have to go under it to get inside of the fort. "I definitely think this is the best hideout ever." She agreed with her best friend. "The mountain trolls wont stand a chance!"

Rook smiled back softly at Kaimi, glad she'd agreed he could use his drum. Carefully he moved an to unoccupied corner and sat down out of the way . It wasn't that he wasn't willing to help so much as that the girls seemed to know what they were doing.
Bishop placed the last of the pillows and began using the larger couch cushions to make walls. " Nope , we'll be snug and safe here and we can always call for help if we need too." Even if Andrea wasn't out helping them right now Bishop was sure she'd come if they asked for her, plus she'd make good reinforcements being bigger like Kaimi.

Once the walls were done and the body of the fort completed, Kaimi beamed at Bishop and Rook. "Do you have paint? We should paint magic symbols on our faces. Since it's new year's and everything, I'm sure the magic will be strong tonight. We'll probably have to summon the spirits of our ancestors and ask them for wisdom in how to defeat the bad-guys." Also, she had glitter in her bag that would be really neat to put on their faces if it had paint to stick to.

Bishop marveled at how Kaimi still knew more stuff than she did. Bishop was smart and she knew a lot about protecting and how scouts went first to lookout for traps and stuff but when it came to magic Kaimi knew a lot more. Thinking of magic Bishop reached up and briefly closed her hand around her pendant that contained Kaimi's gift flower.
" Umm I have special paint that only works when you put bits of water on it. It's not very dark though but it is pretty."
Rook perked at the mention of the water paint, it felt funny on his skin but was nice and he had as much fun bathing to get it off as he did putting it on. In his lap the tip of the boy's tail curled and uncurled not unlike a cats.

Kaimi clapped. "Oh, that'll be perfect!" She beamed at the both of them. "This will be the most fun new-years ever!" She added, then peered out over the wall of pillows. "I dont see the mountain trolls yet, so we should have plenty of time to prepare for them."

Bishop nodded then carefully exited the hideout " We should paint out here so we if we spill anything it ends up on the grass." grass being Otherwise known as the paper she'd have to put down under the paint as part of the rules of using it. In the kitchen or with paper on the carpet.
" I'll get the paint, if you go ask my mom she'll get you the water and then we'll be ok." Without waiting for an Answer bishop Darted out of the room and down the hallway to her room so she could find the special paints she'd gotten for Christmas.
Rook nodded and smiled " I can watch for trouble and let you know if I see anything." Even if there was plenty of time Rook would be vigilant " I can get painted last" he offered.

Kaimi retrieved the water and helped Bishop spread papers on the living room floor, then settled down on her knees and looked over the paint options thoughtfully. "Hmmm..." She dipped her finger in the purple paint and drew lines across Bishop's cheeks, just under her eyes. "I've seen the big men who play ball on tv wear paint like this. It's supposed to make you fierce." She grinned.

Bishop bared her teeth in what she believed was a fierce gesture." I'll be strong and shapeshift into the toughest bird ever and take down any trolls we see with big talons. or blind them like in that harry potter movie" Either option worked well for her.
" Should I draw vines on you" Bishop suggested " To help carry your magic all over your body and protect you." the green paint was pretty she knew and she could add little dabs of colourful thorns perhaps too.
Rook kept a careful lookout while the girl's talked and drummed a steady one two three beat with his fingers letting them know all was safe.

"Yes, please!" Kaimi responded, stripping off her sweatshirt to reveal her more customary tube-top underneath. "Maybe on my arms?" She eyed Bishop, trying to decide what other markings would make her a fierce warrior. She wasn't sure yet... but she definitely thought that more paint was better.

Bishop grinned and carefully dipped the tip of a brush she'd brought in water and then dabbed at the block of paint till some coated the tip of the black bristle's green. Carefully she began to draw a vine that wrapped around Kaimi's left arm " I'm sorry if it tickles."

"It's okay." Kaimi smiled. "It' doesn't tickle too bad." At least not so bad that she felt the need to twitch horribly. She admired the vine that was winding around her arm. "It's perfect!" She added. "What else should we do?" She asked. They were painted and their fortress was strong. All that was really left was to wait for the bad guys to come.

Bishop finished up the vine and quickly added pink thorns. " Um paint little music notes on Rook"
The floor beneath them shook briefly as the rumble of the vacum started up down the hall in Carol's room. Not loud enough to prevent talking but it gave Bishop an idea.
" The grounds shaking they must be coming, quick paint on Rook's tail so he can still use his hands to drum and warn others."

Grabbing a paint brush, Kaimi covered it in red paint and crawled over to Rook, grinning at the little boy. "Here..." She painted a ring of slightly clumsy music notes around his tail. "Now you're protected too. Your drumming is magic. Maybe it can even call down thunderbolts!" Glancing over one of the pillow walls, Kaimi gave a mock-squeal of fright. "Oh! Bishop! Hurry and get in the fort! I can see them!" She pointed in the general direction of the doorway. "See, way in the distance. Theres so many!"

Bishop squealed and scrambled into the fort, she was an ok fighter but the amount of the enemy advancing upon them was far more than she could handle even with backup.
Rook's crimson eyes looked towards the doorway briefly , just to be sure there were no real trolls coming before he he stood and swayed his tail back and forth helping the paint dry. Then he too darted for safety . " What do we do now?" Bishop had always been the leader in their games and yet today she wasn't.

"Bishop and me have never fought so many before." Kaimi said dramatically. "Sometimes she'll turn into a bird and attack them while I cover her. But I dont think that will work this time, theres too many." She bit her lip and looked at her friend. "They might try to starve us out..." She added. "We need to have a tactical meeting. What do you think we should do?" She was asking Bishop mostly, but her glance included Rook as well.
