((Nono, your safeguard was gone by last post. You went 4/5 to 3/5 silly, and now it's not in effect anymore))
Ah crap, why did arcanine have to know a paralyzing move? It wasn't as if she wasn't prepared for it or anything - she remembered Day's arcanine using that on Prince earlier too - but it was still an annoying factor to deal with.
"'Bireo, jump!"
Albireo followed immediately, sensing someone focus their intent on them. He didn't want to be paralyzed either, it was quite uncomfortable. Luckily, the dewgong managed to leap out of the water before the electricity got to him and safely leap back after the surge had weakened so that it didn't effect him at all.
Luna let out a sigh of relief, but she knew she had no time to waste. It was all high stakes now. "So glad this sled is water resistant. 'Bireo, ice beam!"
The dewgong nodded, it was hit or be hit now and he had to hit the other sled before they zapped him into fried fish! And he definately did not want to be friend fish. Albireo charged a quick blue light from his horn, dove into the water quickly to gain his trainer a small edge in the race, before bursting out as fast as he could and firing a fully charged beam of ice at the Arcanine. They could pull status moves too!

((Oh, I started at 5/5 and was counting down. How's that work? If I was counting correctly, I should be at 1/5 on this turn. *checks posts* Yep. Counted right. It's 5 turns, taking effect on the turn after it's cast. Would you prefer that I count up from now on?))

The other team's attack bounced off their safeguard, but Llyri could see that the sheild was wearing thin. The arcanine wanted to speed forwards, but Llyri reminded her with a yank on the guide loops. "Safeguard" he ordered. She obeyed with an irritated toss of her head. HP: 1000/1000

It seemed as if both teams would remain status resistant for a while. So it would be pure speed that would have to pull through in the end. They could work with that. Luna gripped on her hat even tighter to prepare for yet another speed boost.
"Albireo, one last time! Agility!"
Albireo already sensed this was probably his trainer's next command. After being side by side for a while, he had developed a slight ability to read what his trainer wanted. Perhaps it was a mental bond?
The dewgong's eyes flashed white again as he concentrated on urging his muscles to move forward. His body, adapted specifically for water, sliced through the water like a spear which helped cut down water resistance. Faster faster! Albireo could see swarms of remoraid blur past him and the water rush through his fur-lined ears. The feeling was great, soothing. The feeling in the atmosphere of the race was a bit tense but in the water, it just felt like one big fun adventure!

Now that the other team had also cast safeguard, there was nothing to do except run. Llyri let her have her head (sort of. It wasn't that he could control her in the first place. He just stopped giving suggestions.) and hung on. HP: 1000/1000

Although Luna had only started racing a few days ago - heck, they all were starting - it had been such a thrilling experience. Albireo enjoyed it, she enjoyed it, it was fun all around and the trainer was now set in doing this more often. She could already imagine all the fun future races - but for now she had to focus on her current race which was getting more intense than ever. She couldn't afford to drift off in thought again.
Albireo was at full speed now. The wind was whipping past, thrusting her long braid backwards in a long trail and making it more and more difficult for her to keep her hat on.
Her dewgong made a low graceful jump out of the water, yanking the sled forward as he dived back down. Luna felt the jerk, doing her best to keep her balance in the wobbly water sled. She had a feeling faster speed would also mean more butt soreness on her part. It was equivalent exchange afterall.

"Run!" Llyri breathed into her ear. A large obstruction loomed above them and the arcanine was already panting hard. She put her head down and pushed forward into the distance. She was tiring, but there was more yet to come. HP: 1000/1000

Albireo spotted some magikarp in the water and put on a burst of speed in disgust. He remembered eating them before, it was a horrible experience: his trainer had to take him to this weird person who opened up his mouth and mess around with his chipped teeth. Those red fishies looked really tasty, but they were horrible monsters indeed.
Luna gave up, letting her hat fall off and into the water so that she could put both hands on the reigns and keep the sled more balanced. Her hat wasn't as important as her safety afterall.
"Oh hey rocks~" She said, turning sideways to see the large pile of rocks pass by again. She wondered what cau-NO. She had to focus. Gah. Luna turned around and stared directly at the distant checkered flag at the end of the field. 'Focusfocusfocusfocus...'

The arcanine struggled over the rocky outcroppings. Twice, her paws slipped and she fell back, nearly knocking Llyri out of the saddle again, but he gripped tight with his legs. "Come on." he encouraged. "Not far now." She growled angrily, baring her fangs across the water and the dewgong under it, passing this part of the racetrack with ease. HP: 1000/1000

"HEY ALBIREO YOU CAN STOP NOW!" Luna shouted at her dewgong who apparently did not hear her since the sled cotninued to go several yards after the finish line.
"BIREOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
The second the the dewgong finally heard the trainer, making a giant halt that caused the sled to overrun him and topple over in the water. Luna fell facefirst and did her best not to drown in the not-as-cold-as-yesterday-but-still-freezing water.
She spluttered an incoherant "lfkjaslejr" before resurfacing. "Crap, okay. maybe we shouldn't go THAT fast next time. Or you need to work on your breaks Albireo!"
Albireo swam towards Luna and allowed the trainer to hang by his neck, giving the trainer a happy tongue smooch.
"Bleeeeech, Albireooooooo! You silly dog!" Luna ruffled Albireo's wet fur, hugging him tighter. "Good job boy~Now to wait for our opponent?"

((Yep. Regretting it.)) The arcanine reached the top of the precipece just in time to see the other team crossing the finish line. "Niiiiine!" she howled in rage. For his part Llyri was mostly relieved that this madness was over. He'd tried it once, and as far as he'd come, he wasn't sure he wanted to do this again. "Congradulations!" he shouted, waving his arms, although he wasn't sure that the other trainer could hear him. HP: 1000/1000
