Not by any magical means or anything, but yes it is. It's great power, so it easily corrupts. Not to mention it's also a sorce of great stress and mental anguish.
i just found it odd that light yagami changed so much after he lost hold of the death note. i mean, he actually CARED for misa during the time. whereas as soon as he got the DN back he wanted to use/kill misa.confused

I don't. When the Death Not was taken from him, he lost all his memory, he reverted back to his previous self. Before he got the Death Note, he was an innocent guy, he probably never seriously considered killing anyone before that. It's actually a wonder he was mentally strong enough to handle the Death Note, and all the pressure of being chased after by L, then Mero and Nia. I'm surprised he has yet to just loose his mind.
Oh, and remember Ryuuku has ever said the Death Note changes people... and how he said-

guess i gotta catch up on some reading. like my mule? i didnt want to pay 10,000 to change my avatar back to a guy after i accidently switched it to a girl. pirate

Is it just me or did DN loose its touch? I havent read DN for almost 2 weeks.. chapter 75-80 has been there, sitting on my desktop, all this time. confused

Hmm... I don't think it's retarded at all. The two couldn't be fighting forever without one of them 'winning' the fight... Although I was sad to see L go, it's preferable to the manga just going and eventually getting predictable.
Also, I think the manga is defintely picking up the pace once again. smile
