Thank Goodness! Mel wasn't sure how much longer she could have kept it up herself before throwing in the towel. "I am, I am." Slowly she went down to a slow trot, then to a walk. Her breathing was hard and loud, but it was worth the win.
It took her while before she could breath normally, longer than usual which was cause for suspition as well. "I don't know. You did beat me last time... I think your just slacking off." she smiled. "Your such a worry wort." she teased, knocking her shoulder against his for emphasis her point.
"I'm sure we'll be just fine.. " She silently hoped.

"I am not a worry wort," Tooki looked at her, pouting a little. He laughed and shook his head, nudging her back gently with his nose. "I haven't been slacking. I think your slender legs make it easier for you to get around those rocks."
That's right...excuses... The stallion thought, looking up the trail a ways. He glanced at his friend, cocking his head. "You okay? You sound out of breath...want to rest a minute?"

"Yeah, That's what they all say..." she said teasingly, sticking her tongue out at him. "Always making excuses."
Her breathing had since slowed and she nodded her head at her friend. "I'm fine now." Glancing up toward the larger cliffs she tried to guess where they'd find one of those caves he talked about. She hoped that, becaus of the weather the part she wanted to see the most was still intact. It was warm and she feared that even though the air around them got cooler the closer to the top they traveled, the ice cave would be melted.
"Lead the way, Oh, fearless one!"

"Well, I have to try," Tooki told the mare, winking slightly at her. "How else can I sleep at night knowing there's a mare out there that can beat me."
He glanced at Melanie, then up at the cliffs. He wondered how far they might have to go, or how deep in a cave they might have to look. If they had to climb too high, they might have to rest over night. He wasn't sure his friend would be as up to it as he was. Given they were some place strange, with possible dangers.
The stallion nudged her gently with his nose as she passed, "Apple for your thoughts?"
