She blinked. He was asking her opinion? Most didn't even bother to ask, just tell her where she was going. Part of it was that she'd never actually talk to them, so in that respect her opinion didn't matter. The other part was that it kept Duskai from having to express her opinion, something many foals in her youth had wanted.
"Ah... um... the... meadow... is fine."

"The meadow it is then." He nudged her shoulder before he led the way. "Have you met anyone else here yet?" If she hadn't maybe he could invite her to see the herd at his keepers longhouse. Misae loved visitors and always welcomed a new horse to her home.

Duskai thought about it for a while. She had meet others, only a few though. "Ah... Yes... A few. Bella... and Taigi... I think... that's it," she said as they walked. She remembered someone else after a moment.
"There is also... a two legged one... Lily, I think... she called herself..." added the mare, slightly nodding her head in thought.

"Your keeper?" At least she had someone looking after her. If she hadn't he'd probably have dragged her to his home. There was something about this mare that he wanted to protect her. He also enjoyed her company and worried about why she flinched at something he said. Well, time would tell in the end.

Duskai nodded. "Yes... she found me... lost... in the forest... by her home... She's... very nice," she said, a small smile gracing her words. She really liked Lily, cause she was a lot like Duskai in that the human girl kept to herself mostly.

She was pretty when she smiled. Kai shook his head to jostle his thoughts. "I have one too. Her name is Misae. She's pretty good at music and hunting." The Stallion paused to inspect a fallen leaf. Thought he'd spotted something interesting under it. A shiny rock or somesort. "There are a few of us she takes care of."

Duskai tilted her head to one side. "How... many? How large... is your... herd?" asked the mare, as her curiousity got the better of her and she leaned down to see what Kai was looking at it.

"Not as big as some," Kai said, with a smile. "There's Chenguang, he's a Flutter, pretty shy, loves his tree. Nu'man, a Kalona and loves mares. Set, he's a blind winged one and pretty nasty. My father, Ciardha, and his son - my half-brother - Cainneach. Dad's pretty flirtatious, and Cain's quiet. Then there's Heero, we don't see much of him. And Eternity. She's the only mare in our group."

Duskai stayed silent as he spoke, shivering only slightly at the Kalona. She nodded a few times in responce. "It must be... nice... with a group... like that... The Kalona... you said he... loves mares... does that mean... he's nicer... than others of... his kind?" she asked him, curious to know. She'd heard stories that Kalona weren't nice at all, and had contempt for anyone grounded or otherwise. She hadn't met any since she arrived here, so she didn't know what they were like.

He slowed down as he thought about his herdmate. "Loves mares... likes to collect them. Loves to terrify others... but I guess he has a soft spot. He tutored Set in fighting and takes care of him now that he's blind." Kai'd heard that the Kalona was the reason the winged stallion went blind. "So... I don't know."

"Oh..." Duskai fidgeted as she walked for a moment. He collected mares... that was just a little creepy... No scratch that, that was very very creepy. She shivered again, but kept walking.
"Do you... like your herd... Kai?" she asked, looking at him curiously. She wondered if Lily would ever get a herd, and Duskai would get a family. It was possible, she figured, though when it would happen, she didn't know.

The Stallion bumped shoulders with her, grinning. "Well, yes. We're a hodgepodge of some pretty cooky personalities but that's what a family is."
Up ahead the trees started to thin out some. They were nearing the meadow. About an hours walk away was his secret place.

Duskai was jostled a little by his bumping, but smiled nonetheless. She looked at the thining trees. Without a word to Kai, she lept into a gallop and raced out of the trees.
That was the one thing she enjoyed the most: Running. She was not a race horse by blood, but she enjoyed running more than anything in the world. She was fast, too, so it helped her along. Her hooves hit the earth with each step and she lept over a fallen log into the meadow.
She came to a stop and looked around. It was so pretty! "Kai... it's so... pretty..." said the mare, her entire face full of wonder.

"Hey!"
Kai grinned wider when the mare took off. That was a challenge! He followed her, hooves pounding the solid ground. It felt so good to feel the wind in his mane, the stretch of muscle. When Dusk came to a stop Kai slowed down. "It is." He wasn't talking about the meadow though. She was gorgeous... looked far more freer and happier then she had a few moments ago.

Duskai turned to look at him and noticed his stare. Instinctly, Duskai shrunk inside herself, as if she'd done something wrong. Her head came down and she tensed.
She willed herself to not do this, to not act so, but it was ingrained into her muscles. Muscle memory, Lily had called it. It was instinctive, and she couldn't stop it from happening.
And right now, she really wanted to stop it.
