Hahah. No. Daft Punk is not techno. There's just a lot of clones of them in the electronic music genres, and some of the more established names (Vitalic, for instance) are starting to veer towards their paradigm.
Still, Vitalic's OK Cowboy is some beast techno, and by techno I don't mean electronica or that nonsense. I'm still throwing things in there that you might not include, of course, s**t like odd remixes of Woody Woodpecker soundbites (again, a la Dan Deacon.)

don't get me started on electronica bands.... I don't see how ripping off the faint and overlaying it with lamer low-high octave bass.... this band played at my school and all the kids who'd never heard live music in their life before freaked out and bought out all of their t shirts and stickers and pins and cds.... they were so lame they even singed s**t as if to humor their own narcissistic jump in social class.

Not techno. I'm thinking of changing my name to 'Techno Purist'. I hate all these bands that have sprung up with day-glo child synths. MIA is possibly the only person to do cheap synths well in this day and age.

Hm. That's IS pretty shitty, but I know a lot of ravers who would disagree with your classification of that as not techno. Might not be GOOD techno, but if you tried to put this in a music store, guess where it'd be placed?

I KNOW!!! the worse part is that the band is actually more feminine (and more attractive in said manner) than the girl that I guess the video's supposed to be about. and yeah, they're all guys. I looked it up. and they met at a cosplay convention somewhere in germany.

Might not be GOOD techno, but if you tried to put this in a music store, guess where it'd be placed? I'm going to get off my high horse after this, but no matter how many people would call that 'techno', it just simply isn't. It's the equivalent of all the MCR fans thinking they know what emo is. Half the reason techno and the like get such a bad name is because of the misclassification. I just hate to see the good name of a generally great genre tarnished because of the laziness of people who wear day-glo trousers and think that every electronic 4/4 beat they hear must be the same thing. Your whole argument is based on the opinion of people who frankly don't know anything about electronic music.

Let's get semantical, shall we? I lament to inform you that language does not bend to the whim of a handful of musical elitists such as ourselves, otherwise I'd be able to throw out most modern music as 'notmetal' or 'notrock'. The classification adapts over time, and, in its current incarnation, based on popular adoption of the term and the definition, techno does include that music which you and I hate. What does this matter in the long run? It doesn't. Ultimately, we can still enjoy the music that we like and stick up our noses at the rest. Still, many people will end up turning away from genuinely promising genres due to attributing bad music to them, but they aren't music elitist material, anyway. It's disappointing to see good bands washed away in a sea of really, really bad bands, but that's the current music scene, I'm afraid.

Is that REALLY a bandname? If they don't have a song about shotguns, I'll be horribly disappointed.
But I'm just sick like that.
