Makki lit up with glee and took a surprising leap over Chance. Her tail fwaped his ears as she landed behind him. "We'll go exploring! Boldly go where no pup has gone before!" She circled back around him. She liked this guy already.

Her excitement was rubbing off on him and he barked once excitedly. His ears pricked in anticipation and he turned when she jumped over him so that he wouldn't lose sight of her, circling around alongside her. He smiled proudly at the images that came to mind at her words, of them defeating dangerous beasts and doing impossible things. "Which way?" he asked, wagging his tail and pawing at the earth.

She jumped around a little before sticking her nose out, and like a hunting dog, pointed the way. "We go this way! It's just inside the forest, by the hill near the creek." She took a few steps, her tail swaying happily still. When she looked to make sure Chance was following, she started leaping through the grass, scaring the grasshoppers again.

Immedietly, Chance turned to look where she was pointing. He kept close to her, not wanting to be left behind. He leaped over the fallen branches when they reached the forest, keeping an eye out for the cave. He failed to look where he was going and tripped but got up quickly, not bothering to brush away the leaves and dirt that clung to his fur. Running got off most of the irritating ones, anyways, and he sprinted for a while to catch up to Makki. This time, he took care where he ran and decided staying close to her would be enough.

Makki slowed down after he tripped, but she still kept up a fast lop as she wove in and around the trees. Soon they could hear the babble of the creak- one of many that fed the river. "Keep your eyes open." She said, looking around for the mound. She hopped up onto a log and glanced about. The forest was a shady green, and cooler then it had been in the sun. "Hmmm..." At first, Makki almost didn't see it. "THERE!" She cried out when her eyes finally settled on the hill. She took off again, forgetting she wanted to keep slow enough for Chance to keep up.

Chance tried to look for the cave and where he was going at the same time. Most of his attention was on his paws, though, as he didn't want to trip again. Thankfully, she managed to find it, his eyes discovering the hill soon after she called out. He scambled after her and he was way behind by the time she stopped near the cave entrance. When he caught up, his claws clicking against the harder ground, he turned to her and panting, asked, "Is this it?"

"This is totally it!" The entrance had a few webs hanging in it. Nothing had been here in a long time. At least, nothing huge. The faint smell of rabbits was still on the ground. It may have been a hiding place for a family not too long ago. "Come on." Makki slowly ducked under the webbing, careful to not disturb the spiders that hung there waiting for their next meals.
Inside the cave was musty. The ground was soft, and a few mushrooms had sprouted up. Makki took no heed of them as she stepped on a few. The floor slopped down a little then opened up into a rather spacious cave.
"Hey Chance!" She spun around to see if he was still with her.

Chance peered up at the large webs hanging from the cave mouth. He thought the spiders themsleves were kind of creepy but at least it meant there wasn't anything that dangerous in there... right? He easily recognized the scent of rabbit and followed her in, wondering if this would be the place where he made his first kill. Probably not, he figured, seeing as the scents were old. He stayed away from the mushroom since his sense of smell wasn't good enough for him to know if they were poisoned or not but Makki didn't seem to care. She managed to get ahead again and he ran to her when she called, surprised when the tunned he had been in had suddenly opened up to a large cave. "Wooooowww." he said, awed by how big it was. "This place is amazing!" he smiled at her before running off along the edge of the wall.

Makki giggled at his excitement and watched him run. "Isn't this place great! We could soooooooo use this as a secret hide out!" And the spiders are good guards, so no butterflies can spy on us!" She nodded, proud of the fact. She then started running towards Chance in a game of chase around the cave.

"Definetly!" he called back enthusiastically. He was pretty sure spiders could eat butterflies -- they were bugs, after all -- so he paused to nod in agreement. When he saw her running towards him, he put on a competitive smile and raced off, glad to see that most of the cave floor was flat. That meant there was a low chance he would trip and fall with his clumsy paws. The cave was larger than he realized and it took a while for them to completely circle it. By then, he was gasping for breath and he skidded to a halt. "I give up!" he cried with mock over reaction, flopping to his side for more effect.

Makki pounced on him again and promptly started gnawing on his ear. It wasn't an aggressive move. Just playful.
"I like you." She said, nodding between gnaws. "You're fun."

Chance laughed when he felt Makki on top of him, although he was too tired to do much of anything else. He really should run with his siblings sometimes. He was starting to get slow. That certainly wasn't a good thing if he wanted to feed himself once he was old enough. He rolled over to his back again, freeing his ear from her grasp. "Thanks." he said, looking at her from his upside-down point of view. "I like you, too." He wagged his tail and licked her nose, his voice honest. This was certainly one of the most fun times he'd ever had.

She rolled off him and lay on her side, looking at him. "So where are you from?" She asked, for once appearing calm. Her paws were curled close to her body and she squirmed onto her back. "I mean like... do you live in the forest? Or by the river?"

"Hmm." he said thoughtfully, turning his head a bit to look at the ceiling at a different angle. It was pretty sad he had to actually think about his home to remember it. "I live near both, I guess. More food nearby and mother wants us to be good hunters." he nodded his head once. "What about you?" he asked, craning his neck so that he could look at her. Since she was on her back as well, she looked right-side up. It was just the rest of the world that was upside-down now.

"I'm from everywhere." She replied happily. "See, I think I wandered away from my home when I was very very little and my parents couldn't find me. So I live everywhere that others don't. But that's alright, you know? It lets me wander and meet people like you."
