"Red on black on pink on black," she repeated again and then slowly carefully she shook her head as she looked into his eyes.

"Monster... No. No moster." She said now frowning slightly. She carefully lightly placed her paw on his chest where his heart laid. "I see no monster. Only see... beautiful darkness.... creature of the night." Her voice was soft then an almost caress in the night air.

"Red on black on pink on black... beautiful night, sweet caress, and bliss."

Once more, he murmured the words with her, watching her lips so carefully as she spoke. Red on black on pink on black... Not her blood on her fur, his paws on her soft form. His stomach clenched, as did his fingers, though his claws only gently scraped across her skin, didn't break it. No monster, she'd said.

With those two words, the his balance shifted. He found his footing on the knife, though it was still a razor, and even there it would make him bleed. Make him hurt. The pain chased away the rage in his eyes, a bleakness so intense that it had sucked him in. Swallowed him whole like the night that surrounded him now.

"Red on black on pink on black..." he parroted once more, voice straining; the pain under her hand excruciating. Did it beat? Did he feel it? Did she? Did she know what she was doing? Beautiful night, sweet caress, and....bliss. With a strangled cry, he forcibly pushed her away from him, turning. Even then, even thin his claws didn't do more than scrape her skin. Instead, he grabbed the closest tree that remained to cast its shadow, leaving four vicious gouges, followed by four more. Red trails from his claws, so abused. Red on black... A trail from where she'd laid her hand, leading down into the abyss. Over the wrong edge of the razor.

There would be no more blood tonight.

"Fly away, little songbird, fly away...while you can..." Agony. She would change her mind. They all did. Always. Because he was a monster. "Black on black and red on red on black..." he rasped, shoulders hunched. There was no such thing as bliss.

When he shoved her away she only stumbled slightly but quickly she caught her balance. She watched as he tore at the nearest tree in such a rage, and her tail flicked slightly behind her. Any other would turn and leave, then again no other would sanely have stuck around as long as she already had. Kept her strange calm.

She cocked her head to the side with her lopsided smirk. Such danger... such perfection. Were her thoughts simply. Even as he told her to leave she was already in the process of stepping closer to him once again.

Reaching out she touched his shoulder, and finally in that moment she answered his first question, "Alexis. I am Alexis." She said in her sing song voice.

Why wouldn't she just go away? His shoulder burned where she'd touched it, but he couldn't bring himself to move. Couldn't bring himself to push her away again when he wanted to be near her so badly.

"Little songbird..." he murmured. "Alexis." His hand flexed, still on the ravaged tree, bark tearing under his claws. It was rough, coarse under his fingertips...so different from her fur. It had been so soft. Why wouldn't she go away? He finally knew that he didn't want to see her blood run, didn't want to hear those words from her lips. Red on black on pink on blank...his paws on her fur, not her blood and the night.

"Who am I?" he asked no one in particular, his head slowly shaking, almost swinging from side to side as it hung down from his shoulders. "Who am I? I am a monster, little songbird. Alexis. Alexis." He did not turn to face her. He didn't want to see her walk away. When she finally saw that he was a monster. A beast. A demon.

((Yay go fanart for Dreizehn and Alexis xD))

Alexis smirked again and cocked her head to the other side. Hand still on his shoulder she walked around to face him again, her eyes finding his once more. "Who are you? Beautiful creature of the night?" She said in her sing song way. "Not a monster, beautiful creature." She placed her hand gently on his cheek and quirked her head to the side again curiously. She was absolutely fascinated.

"Alexis, little songbird...don't you know who I am? Don't you know what I am?" Dreizehn's eyes flashed, but as when he'd first spotted her amongst the shadows, only his eyes followed her movements, though he watched her like a hawk. Like prey. She spouted words like 'beautiful creature' like she knew him, but she lied. She would say those words eventually, those words that would send him over the edge. When he'd decided that he didn't want to see her blood flow, didn't want to feel her last heartbeats on his hands... Red on black..blood and fur and night...

When she got in front of him, once more he moved with lightning speed, a red blur in the black night, framing her with his arms, his hands pressed flat against the bark of the tree. Inhaling deeply, his eyes slowly closed as he bathed in the scent of her.

"Alexis, little songbird, little bird, what does a monster do with a caged songbird?" He took a step closer towards her, his heart beating wildly in his chest as he could feel the warmth radiating from her. Once, twice, three times his hands raked the bark of the tree, so coarse against his fingertips. So coarse compared to her silky fur.

"Beautiful creature...beautiful..." But he wasn't talking about himself. Red on black on pink on black...

Her heart was racing with adrenaline, a sweet bliss. She leaned up against the tree with his sudden movement, not out of fear but as a reminder that this was all real, not just a hallucination, a fantasy. How is it I didn't find you sooner beautiful creature. She looked up at him with a spark in her eyes, as she looked upon him, a creature of the night as was she.

"Beautiful creature..." she whispered in her sing song ways as she brushed her thumb across his cheek. As she looked up at his she could see the moon the one source of dim light behind him, and she swore she heard a small whisper on the wind. Who, what or where it came from she did not know but the name she heard seemed to fit him all too well.

"Beautiful creature... Dreizehn... pink on black... on red on black... on black..." she whispered leaning towards him and tilting her head towards his ear.

"Pink on black...on red on black...on black..." he murmured with her, the rumbling beginning in his chest as he leaned into her soft touch. "Dreizehn, Dreizen...yes, is that who I am? I am Dreizehn." The demon spoke his name as if he hadn't said it in years. He hadn't said it years. A monster needed no name, a creature of the night needed nothing to announce itself. It merely was. Beautiful? No, not him. Not him. He was a monster. But he did not question how she knew.

"Beautiful creature," he murmured again, listening to the sound of her breathing in his ear. "Beautiful, yes, little song bird...you didn't tell me, you didn't tell me what the monster does with the caged bird. What Dreizehn...what do I do with a caged bird?" Four times, five, with the sound of her breaths in his ear. He leaned closer, close enough to brush their faces together.

Red on black on pink on black...

A shiver ran down her spine at the heat of his breath on her fur. "Perfect... beautiful... Dreizehn," she said his name almost a purr as it passed through her lips.

She looked into his eyes, saw beyond the golden hews into the depths, saw the broken creature, saw the hurt the pain that made him the way he was, the dangerous but beautiful creature of the night.

Her heart raced within her chest, "he sets her free... but she will not leave... for she does not see him as the monster that he sees himself..." she said softly and then leaning closer to him, daringly she presses her lips lightly to his own and soon allows her eyes to close.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 7:42 pm

She'd cried. She'd cried when he'd kissed her. Who was that? It was a long, long time ago. She must've been afraid. Too afraid to say no. Too afraid to leave. He'd loved her so much, his eager heart falling fast for a quick smile, a kind word. Not for him. Not for him.

But there was no fear this time. Not even a bit of hesitation. Not from the little songbird, so small and frail...so bravely she pressed her lips to his, closing her eyes. A part of his mind stirred wondering, Does that mean she trusts me? Does she really lie when she says she won't leave? With a helpless sound that he hated, he crushed his lips to hers, pressing her body against the tree perhaps harder than was comfortable. His claws raked down the tree, falling level with her hips as he fought the wild urge to crush her to him the same way he kissed her: hard, wild, as if he were clinging to her for life. For sanity.

That was the second time she'd said he wasn't a monster. A beautiful creature of the night? Did she really think that?

"Alexis, little songbird," he growled low in his throat, his yellow eyes searching her for the millionth time that night. Though her words were on the tip of his tongue, begging to be repeated, they stopped in his throat, all but choking him. Not for him.

"Black and red on pink on black..." His fur on hers. His heart beat wildly against the cage of his chest, as if trying to break free.

When he kissed her so furiously, her heart beat against her ribs so hard as her fingers clung to the fur around his neck. When was the last time she'd ever felt like this? For she actually felt, so much boiling up to the surface, into her eyes when he finally pulled away and she opened her eyes to meet his own.

"Driezehn..." she said his name almost breathless. How long had it been since last she felt, truly felt.

She looked into his eyes again her heart still beating hard in her chest.

"Such a beautiful creature... so dark... so warm." She said with a smile.

"Pink and black... on black on red... in black..." she said back to him in her sing song way.

The anger that usually sustained him through the night flickered, seeming to dim as something stronger suffocated him. Drowned him. He couldn't breathe. Couldn't find his way in those pink eyes that swallowed him whole.

"Little songbird...Alexis," he growled again. Her name was a mantra, a curse and a prayer. He wasn't used to being confused. He was used to knowing exactly what, who he was. That hate, that loneliness had been wrapped around his hardened heart for so long that he didn't know what to do without the fire that fueled it. He shoved away from her, the source of his confusion.

"It's not safe here, little songbird. Not safe...not safe with me. Not safe." Again, his head shook back and forth, swaying almost on his shoulders as he denied the words that he spoke. Would he break the wings of a songbird? He didn't know...he didn't know...

Exhaustion swept him, he swayed on his feet. The blood, the fury, they'd taken their toll. He had to...rest, to sleep. To recover. From her.

"Fly away, songbird," he muttered again, taking a faltering step back as he spread his wings to take his own advice.

"Safe... safe... all relative... opinion... what is safe?" Alexis said quirking her head to the side again and stepping towards him again almost dancing like from foot to foot.

"Not monster... my worlds eye... beautiful creature... dark and true." She said sing song again.

"You want me to go, beautiful creature... Driezehn?" She then asked placing a paw on his shoulder again as if to say please don't go.

Stay. Stay with me.

"Pink on black... on black... on red...on black"

"Safe is far from here," he snapped, jerking his shoulder away as if her touch had burned him. It had, it had...but not on his shoulder. He reached up and grabbed where he knew his heart was still, no matter how hard he wished it otherwise. Still there, still beating painfully within his chest, lurching at leaving her behind. But monsters are supposed to be alone. Alone, alone... He teetered on the edge again, but this time, he leaned the wrong way. It was such a long fall if he dropped.

"Dark, yes. True, yes. Beautiful?" He teetered on the brink of madness, throwing his shoulders back and howling with laughter, an eerie, lonesome sound that held no humor. "Yes, yes, beautiful...I remember. I remember what that means." Slumping forward, still clutching his chest, Dreizehn's shoulders continued to shake with his mirthless cackling.

"Not wise to tease, little songbird. Not wise...." Black on black...Darkness, take me again..I don't want to hurt anymore! He took another step back, turning and launching himself into the air. Into the night.

Goodbye, little songbird...Alexis...Goodbye, goodbye...

She stood there letting her arm drop to her side when he wrenched away from her. She could see the change that occurred, and it shattered any small sense of a hope she might have formed in the night.

There was nothing she could think of to say her mind having gone completely blank with the look in his eyes.

As he launched himself in the air all she managed was to whisper, "tease...not... I..." in her sing song fashion. She stood there and watched him fly away into the darkness. Fly away from her. Alone again.

"Alone...again...alone always...." she said to the darkness as she let herself crumble to the ground and let the numbness creep over her once more.

Her eyes filled with liquid glass as she rocked in the still night.

"Red... on black.. on pink... on black... on black...." she repeated over and over again in her sing song way at a soft whisper. Red on black, on pink on black, on black....
