"Apple pie?" Delilah offered her hand to him and the gesture was still strangely child-like. "Or do you like peach or blueberry or cream pies more?" The innocent topic was offered for decided relief on his part.

"I was thinking cherry, actually," he admitted. "If they have it. Which type of pie do you like best, Delilah?" he asked, now more comfortable even as he took the offered hand. She seemed as innocent as she had been as a child. He had just been too hung up on her... physical maturity.

Delilah considered, leading him down a path and towards the nearest gate. "I like cherry," she agreed, "but it's not the best. Do you like all things cherry, Antony?"

"Hmm?" he asked. "More often than not," he admitted. "That and blueberry. I also really like raspberry."

"Fruits, then." Delilah pushed the gate open with her free hand but paused on the sidewalk, waiting for the traffic to lighten. A small, neat cafe stood opposite them, clearly their destination. It even had a cheery striped awning over the door and a wide plate glass window. "I like peach pie."

It went right over his head, thankfully. "Really? I'll have to try that sometime," he said as they headed into the cafe. "Is that what you want? I'll go order if you prefer."

She kept a hold of his hand and, in fact, laced her fingers with his to better keep him at her side. She accompanied it with a sweet, shy smile, though. "We can sit and the waitress will come over," she explained. "I don't know if I feel like peaches today. I might try the cherry. Can we sit in that corner over by the flower mural?"

"Oh, right, of course," he said, feeling like an idiot. "Lead the way, then," he invited, feeling a bit self conscious about how people were watching them in amusement. They probably looked like boyfriend and girlfriend, he realized abruptly.
That was... awkward.

"Thank you," Delilah trilled happily. She tugged his hand gently in the appropriate direction but released him when they were within a foot of the table. "I like this painting, don't you?"

He looked at it for a moment, taking in the overwhelming amount of flowers. "It's very... floral," he said finally, wondering if he could avoid looking at it without offending her. It made his head hurt if he stared too long, he already knew it would.
"So do you come here often with your mother?" he asked, wanting to change the subject as he pulled out a chair for her. It was only polite.

He earned a very pretty little smile for his chivalry and Delilah smoothed her skirt as she sat down daintily. "We used to," she said. "Not recently, though. She's been busy." Somehow she masked the deeply held annoyance that Kova had been busy paying attention to a carved rock. She folded her hands atop the table and studied him. "So you were in the park with Mr. Shade exercising?" she asked. "Do you do that a lot?"

"Yes, actually," he said as he sat down and looked around for the waitress. "We spend Sunday mornings sparring, and he's refused to let me get a car, so I wind up running to school and back every day. It's... rather annoying having to wear tennis shoes with my best jeans, but I've gotten used to it."
He leaned back slightly, mentally noting how much cash he had on him and if he would have to use his debit card.

"That explains why you're in such good shape." Delilah cocked her head to the side again, gaze flicking down to what was visible of his body above the table and back up to his eyes. "I thought you looked different than you did last time we talked."

She had totally just checked him out. He blinked, a bit surprised at that thought as well as by the fact, but covered it with a slight smile. "Actually, I've always been rather physical," he admitted. "It's hard not to be with a father like mine."

She nodded in agreement. "I remember Mr. Shade. He's very strong." Then she wrinkled her nose a bit. "At least you seem to like it. Mama wants me to start doing something like that, too."
