Huojin listened intently as Shen spoke, and he shook his head at the sad news he heard. "That's awful. It appears mother hasn't lost all of her ways." He then brought his eyes on Jirani, but knew that Shen would be there for him when he definitely needed it. "I think you'll end up helping him so much, like you've helped me so long ago. Support comes naturally for you, and that's an awesome trait." he then smiled at his brother but the moment was interrupted when he heard his mother speak. His eyes darted on her, and he wanted to seriously laugh to the world. And after a few moments of staring, he indeed starting laughing.

"I don't know anything about girls?" he then managed to pull out, before slowing his laughter. "You know, in my younger days I was quite the debonaire. But wait, of course you wouldn't know that. Because you never cared about anything about me." he lifted his nose into the air, and looked at the younger kids out of sadness for them. Hopefully their mother would chill out and let them grow as accordingly, and ask them things about their lives. "Plus, in this stage in my life mother I happen to have a lovely girlfriend. So I know far more then you'd think about females." Ah yes, the lovely Farsiris. He instantly felt better, since she always helped him transcend to a happier place. But for the moment he also was feeling like a teenager, since his mother always brought him down in levels!

Jingfei felt bad that she couldn't answer her sister accordingly, and she only shook her head and said "I have no idea! Maybe we will find out as we grow up?" She then looked at her hooves in distress since there was something she didn't know right away, but Jirani entering made her act more distracted on the subject. "Yes, we were trying to figure out why boys and girls act differently. Do you know Jirani?" she looked at her brother and grinned at him happily.

Even if he felt excluded, she hoped that she and Jia could make him feel welcome at all times. She wanted their sibling bond to be strong, just like it was for Huojin and Shen. "We can talk about something else Jirani if that doesn't interest you?" she then wiggled her tail and as usual was trying to please everybody.

Jirani tilted his head at his sisters' conversation. He really couldn't think of how they were different.
"What do you mean by different? I mean...I think we're kind of the same. Except for the way mother treats us. But maybe she treats us different because boys and girls are different. Maybe we should ask father! I'm sure he'll know!"
He looked over at his father before looking to his sisters to see if they approved of this plan.

She looked daggers at Huojin. He was acting just as he had done when he was a child. He never had any respect for her.
"After all I've done for you, you still refuse to admit that I care for you? Why do you continue to hate me?!"
She turned to Raksh in hopes that he might back her up.

Raksh sighed and looked between Ju and Huojin. It seemed that he would have to say something. If he stayed silent on the point, he might make enemies out of both his wife and his son.
"While I cannot say anything about Huojin's childhood, I have to admit that you do judge him very differently, Ju. I'm not saying that you're in the wrong, but I'm not saying that you're right either. And Huojin, you could make strides to improve your relationship with your mother by speaking before you act. Things like this take time to repair, but there are things that can be done on both sides of this issue."
He hoped that his carefully chosen words would not hurt Ju or Huojin. He was trying not to take sides, but to do his best in resolving the situation.

Shen watched his younger siblings while Huojin and his mother argued. He tried to tune it out as he had done when they were younger. And it seemed that his father had things under control. He thought it would be best to let him try and handle these things now. He was, after all, their father, and it was time for him to take his role in the family. But he couldn't help but smile as Huojin talked about his girlfriend. He made a note to himself that he would have to ask Huojin about her after this argument passed.

She studied her brother and sister carefully for a moment. So neither of them knew? She did not much want to wait until she was grown up to find out the answer. It could be crucial information for all she knew! I could be very important later on or maybe even that day!

She smiled at her brother and bobbed her head up and down a few times. "Let's ask father and then mother...and our older brothers too." She said feeling very excited though it barely made it's way into her voice. Instead it stayed in her eyes, smile and tail. "This could be very important and we have to get a good answer. So, we ask all of them. You think?" Her excitement dropped a level as she realized she had practically stolen her brother's plan. She offered him a sheepish and apologetic smile her ears going back a bit.

Jingfei liked the way her brother and sister thought and figured stuff out. Whether they realized it or not, they worked well together without even noticing it! "You guys, it might be good to ask them now since it seems like the 'adults' are fighting anyways. So if we interrupt them maybe they'll go back to being peaceful again!" She looked ahead of her and noticed Huojin and their mother arguing. She then heard her father intervene, and noticed that there was a moment of silence where she and her siblings could come in!

So with that, Jingfei nosed at her siblings to step forward with her. "Mom, dad, we wanna know why boys and girls are different. Are we even different, anyways?" she looked side to side at her siblings and encouraged them to ask any other questions they saw fit. "We've been over here trying to figure it out and we're confused."

As much as Huojin respected his father, he didn't want to add on to more of the argument that was stirring between his mother and he. It just wasn't fair. Huojin knew there was nothing wrong with him. Hell, he had someone who loved him for who he was finally, and he didn't see that possible when he was younger! But whatever. Huojin was happy now as an adult. There was no reason to care about what may have happened so long ago. Especially since there was no way for any of them to take it back. "Yeah, I see what you mean, dad." he then said, in hopes that all could be quiet again.

He had to admit though, he was entertained when the three youngest stepped forward with their question. He looked at his parents and Shen and chuckled from the overall situation. "Looks like an important matter needs to be sorted out now!" And it was just in time, too. His parents could be distracted with someone other than he!

As her younger children approached her, she beamed at Jingfei as she spoke. With a smile at Raksh as well, she turned back to the trio and cleared her throat.
"Well, as you can tell by your older brother's actions, boys are typically louder and...well, brash. But that's not always the case. You brother, Shen, for instance, is very quiet and well mannered. Much like your father."
She turned to Raksh again and smiled, nuzzling up against his nose.

Raksh seized the change of subject at first as Jingfei spoke for her siblings, but his face fell as Ju answered quickly, attacking Huojin again. He sighed, trying to make apologetic eye contact with Huojin again, but he wasn't sure he caught his eye. When Ju was finished, he gave his own answer.
"Well, there are no real definitions of what makes boys and girls different in terms of personality. The only definite differences are physical. But as far as personalities go, they are varied not only from boy to girl, but from each and every soul. We are all different from each other. But then again, there are things that we will find that we have in common with others. Both these differences and similarities are what draw you to other people, or turn you away from them. You'll learn much about all the differences in the world as you grow older."
He hoped that he wasn't too wordy for his children as he finished his explanation. He sometimes let himself get carried away.

He smiled as he watched his younger siblings ask one of life's great mysteries. As he allowed his parents to share their answers, he turned to Huojin, smiling.
"So, who is this lucky lady? What's she like?"

Jirani listened to his mother's explanation and was left with some more questions. She had merely explained one simple difference, which wasn't even entirely true, as she had pointed out herself. But as he listened intently to his father's answer, her felt more at ease. His father put it so nicely, and left much more open to the differences they were bound to meet in the real world.

Jia Li followed after her sister and smiled at her parents eagerly as the question was asked. She hadn't quite gotten an answer she had been looking for from either of them however. Her mother's answer was too short and seemed more directed at Houjin then everyone in general. This worried her a bit. She couldn't understand why her mother didn't like him. Was it because he was loud? She didn't much like that herself but what if it was his color she didn't like? That wouldn't be good.

Her father's answer did not serve to improve things much. It was too long and it was all a very fancy way of saying that there were no differences between boys and girls aside from their outside appearances.

"That..." She frowned slightly not wanting to say what was on her mind. She didn't want to say that they weren't helping her, it was horrible. To avoid saying it she looked to her older brothers. "What do you think brothers? What makes boys and girls different?"

Huojin was glad to answer his brother about such a lovely topic. "She's perfection. Seriously, I don't know how I got so lucky. She's as sweet as the ripest fruit and as dreamy as the softest clouds." Huojin had changed so much about himself for this mare, but in the end it was all worth it. He was maturing everyday and learning what kind of stallion he needed to be to better take care of someone else. "I recommend finding someone you can love, Shen. It's like life is completely different once you do. I so hope you can meet her sometime too!" Before Huojin could continue more on his brother, her noticed all of his younger siblings staring at him and Shen.

Jingfei noticed a brief silence while Huojin was staring at her and her siblings. So, to fix the situation, she spoke out again. "Didn't you hear the question boys! We uh," she cleared her throat very politely and tried to raise her voice just a tad. "Want to know what makes boys and girls different, in your opinions of course!

The question posed to he and Shen couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. "Well there are a lot of differences. But then again, I think there are a lot of similarities too that others overlook." He thought hard to some of the qualities that made him and Farsiris get along so well. "I guess... boys and girls create a perfect balance while existing together in this world. And, I certainly can't name any true differences because I think they are different for each individual. But boys and girls are needed to make the perfect balance!" Not to say he and Shen as brothers wasn't the perfect balance! But it was a simple way to take note on the situation. Huojin was pleased with himself for remaining somewhat controlled.

She felt as though she was being ignored a bit. Nobody elaborated on her answer to the younger ones' question, and nobody seemed to pay her reply any mind. But as she thought about this, she realized that she wasn't exactly the best speaker. As she listened to Raksh's answer, she decided that his explanation was far more better than her's. As the children then turned to their older brothers, she smiled and leaned against Raksh.

He could tell that his answer had confused his daughters. He chuckled at himself as he realized that he sometimes let his mouth get carried away. He seemed to have forgotten that they were children and might need a simpler explanation. But he smiled as he watched them turn to their older brothers to pose the question to them. He liked to watch how inquisitive they were.

He smiled at his brother.
"I'm glad for you. It must be a wonderful feeling. And I do hope that I can meet her some day."
As the younger ones approached them, Shen thought for a moment. He honestly couldn't think of a good answer. He didn't really know too many females, and hadn't spoken to enough of them to really notice the main difference. He was glad, then, that Huojin spoke up and took control. He seemed to know what he was talking about.

Jirani thought over his father's answer for a moment. It couldn't be true. If boys and girls were the same, then how come his mother treated them so differently? There obviously was some difference that made her act differently around them. He thought this all over while he listened to Huojin as he gave his opinion.

Then there really was no difference aside from the physical characteristics? That information did not sit very well with her. Both were needed to create a balance, according to her brother, but there didn't seem to be a clear reason why that was so. Her entire family seemed to agree on the fact that there really were no clear cut differences though they all said it in different ways.

"So then...we are not truly different?" It seemed to be the only logical conclusion to come to, though it didn't really make sense or help at all. There was clear disappointment and confusion written on her face.

After a moment she decided that there was no use worrying herself over it. If that was the answer then she would just have to accept it no matter what that meant. "I see...thank you." She smiled to them gratefully with a tiny bow of her head. They had taken the time to answer her so naturally it was best to be polite.

Huojin hoped that he could erase any stress on the subject that may have existed in his new siblings. "I can promise you all that the difference itself will never come up and affect you in any way. I believe that one should look at personality and just get a feel for how someone is." A sex or a gender of a creature wasn't important- especially when it came to this discussion of differences. Besides, the children were too young to understand everything right now. He didn't want them meandering over something so complicated. "So do not fret, you will learn and distinguish differences for yourselves as you grow up."

Sometimes the best way to learn about all of the creatures in the world was to go and find some for themselves! Well, that was Huojin's strategy for when he grew up. And so far it had worked well for him.

Jingfei nodded as Huojin finished his words, and she walked over towards Jia and Jirani and nodded to them happily. "I think we'll just have to be patient, then! Right guys?" Jingfei wasn't sure who she would meet in her future, but hopefully the issue of boys and girls being different wouldn't stop her in her travels.

"Do you think that explanation made sense, mom and dad?" she then said, while turning and smiling at her two loving parents. "I hope the three of us can have all sorts of experiences and memories so that we won't get confused by these issues anymore." Jingfei wanted to do so much, and she knew with time she'd be able to find herself!

Shen was very impressed at his brother's answer.
"It is obvious that you have learned a lot since we were children. And it also reminds me how long it has been since I've seen you. I'm glad to see how much you've grown."
He smiled over at his brother fondly. He was indeed very happy that he had grown from the little foal who used to annoy their mother just to get a rise out of her. He had at times felt like an older brother to Huojin, even though they were the same age.

Jirani looked around at his brothers and sisters and put a small smile on his face. He decided to put his mother's behaviour towards him aside for the time being. This was supposed to be a happy day. His whole family was together and they should all be enjoying themselves and each other. He looked at his giggling and excited sisters and laughed a bit himself.
"Well, I can see one difference. Girls are a lot sillier than boys. Or at least you two are!"

She smiled around at all of her children gathered together, watching the young ones ask questions and come up with their own conclusions about the ways of life. It made her very happy to see them all together here. She began to drift into a dreamy state as she laid there, leaning against her mate.

Raksh smiled as Jingfei asked his opinion.
"I believe that all the answers have their own bit of truth to them. It just so happens that you asked a very difficult question today. This is the kind of thing where there are no clear cut answers. A lot of what people say on this subject is a matter of opinion. But you will learn more of these things as you grow older."
He smiled around at them, and noticed Ju laying more heavily against him. He turned to look at her and noticed her eyes drooping. He knew she had been tired, and didn't blame her for nodding off for a moment.

A small wave of relief washed over Jia Li at her brother's words. To know that the differences would never affect her was good to know. Still, she was not entirely thrilled that her question had no definite answer. Turning her attention to her sister she nodded her head with a little smile. "It doesn't really seem like we get a choice. So I will wait...patiently." She was content at the moment. In the future she was sure that they would all see so many things and do so much. There was no doubt in her mind that her sister and Houjin were right that they would understand once they saw more.

As Jirani spoke her eye twitched slightly in annoyance. While she was far more restrained then most her age she was still a child. She still found things obnoxious and would occasionally react to them innappropriatly. "Who are you calling silly?" She asked snapping slightly at her brother. She wasn't being silly at all. It could have been very important information to be learned. "It better not be me and Jingfei..." Her face had scrunched up into a little angry pout. She didn't want to be silly. She wanted to be smart like her brother, lovely like her mother and brave like her dad.

A wide smile planted itself on Huojin's face as he nodded towards his brother in thanks. He liked to believe that he could be a respectable stallion for Farsiris' sake. And so far, he was making that reality come true. "Thanks again, Shen. I couldn't have grown in this way without your guidance growing up."

Huojin then noticed his mother slowly dozing into a sleep. He kept his grin as he watched her, and he wondered what his parents wanted to do. Did the children usually take naps with them? Huojin wasn't used to the 'conventional' family method, and he was still learning himself! He was sure that fatherhood would stumble upon him one day, so it was best to watch his own parents and learn as best as he could. Being prepared was much better then being scatter-brained.

"Does mother need to rest?" he finally asked, while glancing around. "Or everyone, by that matter." he chuckled then and watched the little ones argue with each other. It was quite amusing and refreshing!

Jingfei was focused on her father so much that she neglected to hear her sibling's interaction! And, when she did finally turn around she realized Jia was quite upset with their brother's words. "Thanks daddy for the information, I think I'm starting to make sense of everything!' she then curtsied to him and ran over and next to her sister. She felt like she was needed!

"Jia! I'm sure brother didn't mean what he said in a harsh way!" she eagerly looked at Jirani and hoped he wasn't making fun of them. It wasn't like him to do that anyways, so it must have been a misunderstanding!

Right?!
PostPosted: Sat Feb 07, 2009 6:14 pm

Jiran was quite taken aback at Jia Li's reaction to what he said. He had meant no harm in it, and he thought she might be a little quick to accuse him. He was about to make an angry retort, but just at that moment, Jingfei stepped in. He listened to what she said to their sister and nodded fervently.
"Yeah, I didn't mean anything like that. I just meant that you guys giggle and stuff more than I do. And sometimes that's kind of silly. I didn't mean that you were being stupid or anything."
He sighed a bit and looked to Shen for a bit of help. It seemed he had said the wrong thing.

He nodded in return to his brother.
"I'm glad that I was able to be there for you. And I'm grateful for respect, though I'm not entirely sure I deserve all of it. I only wanted to help, and I just gave you advice. It was you who made yourself into who you are today."
He nodded and turned his attention to the little ones again. It seemed that Jiran and Jia Li had gotten into a bit of a disagreement, and that Jingfei had jumped in to do some damage control. He smiled as he watched them. He noticed when Jirani looked at him. He only gave him a small nod, knowing that he was looking for help. But he wanted his young brother to learn how to take care of himself. He knew that he was smart and that he could handle himself. And perhaps, all the little one needed was a nod of encouragement from his older brother.

He smiled as Jingfei ran from him and back to her siblings, then turned his attention to Huojin as he spoke again. He chuckled and shook his head.
"I believe your mother is just resting herself. She does seem to enjoy her down time."
He smiled and looked over to his mate, with a playful nudge to her neck.

Her eyes flew open again as Huojin spoke. She glared at him with her dark eyes. While this may seem like a small passing comment, she of course took it as an insult.
"Do you think that I cannot keep up with my own children? I am fully capable of taking care of my young, thank you very much. And what business is it of yours if I want to rest my eyes for a moment? Why do you feel it necessary to bring your foul attitude with you everywhere you go? This was supposed to be an enjoyable family time!"
She huffed and turned away from her son yet again. He never seemed to understand where she was coming from.

Her sister's words served to calm her a bit and her brother's furthered the effect. Heat came to her face as she realised what a mistake she had made. Taking in a breath she offered her brother an apologetic smile before bowing her head low. She didn't say anything, just stood with her head down scolding herself silently for behaving in such a way. After a moment she lifted her head. "I'm sorry brother...I...was not thinking." She bowed to him again before looking at Jingfei and repeating the motion. "And I'm sorry to you as well..."

The way her sister had rushed over like that, she must have worried her. Worrying her sister or snapping at her brother weren't things she should ever do. She opened her mouth preparing to smooth things over when she heard her mother's voice and it sounded angry.

Jia Li's bright eyes turned to look at her mother somewhat alarmed. "Momma?" She asked quietly taking a step towards her. What was she so upset about?
