Rankine veered, not losing the pace at all. The herd had cleared out, wanting to be clear of the hunters that Abital and Rankine were. The hoof beats and pants from the elder beast were all the telling to Rankine, a sign of the beast slowing down.
Rankine reared back towards the beast as Abital took the beast by its muzzle. Facing the old beast, no fear. He was the hunter and the beast was his prey. It was time to eat.
He sprang with his hind quarters towards the beast's neck. Rankine's jaws clamped around the beasts neck, going for the jugular. The force of Abital on the beast and Rankine's jaws aimed for its jugular, the deer went down. Rankine jerked his head, the clamped jaws tearing at the veins in the neck of the beast. He could feel and taste the beast dying and it felt good.
Rankine turned to Abital. "You didn't get hurt by the horns did you?" He peered at her, waiting for her to take the first.

As the beast coiled onto the ground, breathing its last breath, the female watched silently, hardly affected by the grotesque thing, used to taking life in order to survive. This was the wild, after all. Her paws lightly touched the ground, thankful for having a firm stand after having been tossed about previously. Luckily what Rankine had stated had not come true. "Nah, just a few scraps. I was far enough down on its face not to be jabbed by the tines, thankfully," she answered, flicking her tail.
Shaking out her fur, the female looked from the bloody maw of the male, to the large mess at their paws. It could be worse. Now as she observed the large deer, she contemplated how to go about this. Her previous intentions were clearly to steal the meal, but this was far too large for her to carry off on her own. Maybe she could let Rankine to take a bit...he did earn it after all. Releasing an inward sigh, Abital allowed him to approach, taking the left flank of the beast and gnawed on the hide.

Rankine didn't let his anxiety show. He was second guessing whether he should have allowed Abital to get the first meat or if he should have taken some and run. But he wanted her to. If anything she did allow him into the hunt... something he hadn't done in so long...
Rankine was inwardly relieved that the female was unharmed. She intrigued him in some odd ways. If she wanted to just use him or not, he didn't really mind. He got what he needed.
About that. Rankine opened his maw wide, taking a part of the beast's right hind quarters. He jerked his head left and right slowly tearing the limb apart from the body. He licked his chops before gnawing on the meat. This could last forever...

Abital did something similar. Her strong jaws clamped about the meat and her equally sharp fangs shredded into the flesh tearing it as though ripping jaggedly through a piece of paper. The limb, now largely hanging from her maw, would be perfect to bring back with her to Gomorrah...if she would indeed finish her meal there. There was no profit in heading back to her pack, especially when she might have to share what she had just earned all on her own. Hell no. No, she wouldn't go back there just to let the greedy bastards have a bite. The thought suddenly struck her funny. Wasn't she going to steal this meal from Rankine and she was criticizing her pack for being dingy little thieves?
But now that this was addressed, what was she to do? Here she had thought to seduce Rankine into letting her take the entire prize, but now the thought sounded unnatural to her. She actually wanted him to keep it? An inward snort echoed in her mind. Certainly not. It was hers, she earned it, and it was no one else’s...right? But the thin male did take it down with her...and he did seem to need it more...and he didn't cause any trouble for her...
'Arg...' she thought inwardly, munching outwardly and hardly passing an expression that told of the morel dilemma being fought over in her head.
'Fine fine...I'll leave him alone to have it...' she finally decided.
The female ate as much as her stomach could hold and was soon sitting back staring at the male. Leaving now seemed the most appropriate course of acting. Picking up her leg, she glided into a standing position, and looking the male over, she gave him a slight addressing nod, and padded off in front of him a few feet before pausing and setting the meal-on-the-go down. "It was nice working with ya, SunSpark, we should do this again some time," she said suddenly, giving him a small smirk. Her golden specks watched him before she would move on.

Rankine tried not to show any unease show as the she-wolf ate the meat and took a large piece. Was she going to do something?
He almost flinched when she stared at him. He couldn't help but be relieved as she left, taking meat with her. Thankful, she had left him with some meat.
"Thanks, Abital," Rankine called out softly. "I hope we meet again... someday."
Rankine ripped his own large hunk of meat from the deer's carcass. The hunk of meat was almost bigger than he was as he dragged it along. He turned once again to peer at Abital before giving a slight wave of a forepaw. He knew she was going to retrieve the precious two-legger item, and he wouldn't intrude on her special item.
Until some other day.
