Confusing though it truly was, Mzaa's explanation was not totally lost on Umlilo. In fact, she was actually interested by it. Despite everything, she'd still only really spoken to old blooded firekin. It was a much more interesting story than 'I was born here, my mother/father was born here or to her/his mother who was born here..' Thanks to Wakia, Lilo could definitely appreciate a good story.
And Mzaa's answer gave more reason behind her shyness. But she was much more social seeming than Lilo normally was, so she wasn't doing too horribly.
Then she got a question she couldn't answer truthfully, not even to herself. What she was really doing out here spoke volumes, but she wasn't going to admit to meeting with a Safi lion- especially to a near-stranger.
"No," she said, but not without suspicious hesitation.

Mzaa tilted her head to the side, eyes narrowing slightly, not in anger or annoyance, but in question. Hesitation, slight, but it was still there. Mzaa then peered out towards where the Safi lay dormant, and then back to Umlilo, it wasn't impossible that a friend..or more, was left on the other side, her other side of the family was there.
To gain trust, to know the real truth, even for mere curiosity, Mzaa could only think of one thing. "Your father, is a kind lion, who keeps a secret for me now, and I know he would never go back on his word of a fellow Simo, " she peered towards Umlilo, offering a smile, "You've ventured this far, and seemed deep in thought when I came across you, heading towards them....there is...someone, isn't there?"
Mzaa was trying to say, in no words, that if Umlilo's father gave her the trust she needed, to keep her injury secret, Mzaa coul do the same for Umlilo, "If there is...and you worry, and that's why you come this way where others don't usually venture I could....help...watch, for you..."

There was a right way to react, Lilo was sure of that. What she wasn't sure of, though, was what that right way was. So she hesitated again, looking very thoughtfully at Mzaa. Her expression was unreadable but the silence said a lot. Even if she admitted to everything, she was best off not doing it to a stranger. Mzaa seemed nice enough, but could she really trust someone she just met. Besides, that would put Mzaa at risk if they were caught.
"No, no there isn't," she said finally, for her own benefit, for the benefit of Mzaa. This encounter was sufficiently awkward now, so she dug through her mind for a polite way of taking her leave.
"Thank you," she said finally, going for at least being polite on the last topic before hurrying away, "I best be heading back now." She didn't explain, she had no excuse. She could have rattled off a name or said she had something she was supposed to do but that wasn't easy so she said nothing more.

Ears flicking forward, Mzaa wasn't sure how to take the answer Umlilo had given her. Though, if there was someone, Umlilo didn't want anyone to know, which was probably the best, and if there was, and Mzaa knew, even if she kept it secret, and it was found out, she could get into trouble, which she didn't want, for this was her home, and she didn't want to lose the one thing she had now.
She gave a nod at Umlilo's thanks, watched her as she moved, heading back, perhaps to Bodaway, at least Umlilo had family, even if part of it was on the other side. Turning to face where the traditionalists lay, she flicked her ears, turned tail and headed towards the other side of this area, it was time for a hunt, if anything to get her mind off things, and to test how her leg was doing.
Mzaa still wondered though...only time, and truth would tell.
