"Sure, no problem!" Shiloh chimed, itching at the growing thickets of cotton crowing under his shirt, "You're always welcome at my place. Always."

"I dunno how to get my home heated." Rusty mentioned, looking to him. Oh, Shiloh... Blushy look at the ground time! "Do you know how? I don't want either of uth to get thick."

"Honestly, Rusty, I think you're house is too rickety for new wiring. You might wanna come shack up with Opec n' me 'til Spring time comes around again." He wasn't lying either. The house could overheat and catch fire, or simply cease to stand.

Oh, my... Rusty shifted.
"I... I don't wanna be a bother." Of course he didn't. Rusty, he knew that. "And it'd be a tight fit..." Granted, he didn't know how big his house was inside. He'd never really looked...

"Okay." Rusty's voice was soft. He nodded to himself. It'd be okay. He could trust Shiloh.

He could indeed!
It was only a half hour or so later when Shiloh led Rusty into a rather traditional-looking church. What was inside, though, was far from traditional. There were many deities on the walls, and none the focus behind the reverend. Instead, there was a bright, open window that gave a view of the surrounding farmlands. A Muslim couple sat near the door and smiled when Shiloh entered. Two women holding hands waved. The reverend, robed in deep purple, laughed and motioned toward that.
"Shiloh, Shiloh! Good to see you! Who are these new visitors?"
"M'friend Rusty, n' his son Hoss! N' this's m'son Opec!"
"Welcome, welcome! Please, sit down!"
And Shiloh led Rusty toward a plush pew.

Rusty held Hoss tightly, giving teeny shy smiles over his head as he shuffled to sit where Shiloh was going. OH, my... He'd never been in a church like this before...
Hoss just gave an annoyed sigh and sniffled. It was warm, and it was all he cared about.

The reverend returned to preaching as soon as he saw that the newest visitors were comfortable. He preached love and tolerance and forgiveness. There were no bibles in the pews, but instead colorful song books. The songs within were vague and sang of faith in something larger than the human soul, but gave no details. An atheist would likely even be comfortable here.

To say that Rusty was confused would be an understatement. This was nothing like what he was used to. No fire and brimstone, and the preacher seemed... Nice. confused Rusty was confused!

Shiloh noted the confusion, but didn't talk to him about it. Let him learn real faith and real religion! There was only one recognizable Christian icon in the church (aside from the Jesus statue in one corner, beside Vishnu), and that was the giant words above the arch of the large window.
"Love Thy Neighbor"

Rusty caught the window as he looked about. Oh, he was confused. This was nothing like what he was used to! It was nice, perhaps too nice...

And noting this new change in personality, Shiloh put an arm around Rusty. It would be okay!

Rusty leaned against him, biting his lower lip. As terrible as it was, niceness scared him. At least when people were mean you knew what to expect.
Except with you, Shiloh. You had his trust.

"It's alright," Shiloh whispered, "This is acceptance, Rusty. This is what the world should be like everywhere."
