a long distance relationship for me is something different from an online one. the second implies for me that you never get to meet that person in real life...that you can't be even sure the person is what she/he claims to be. iof course a online relationship might develop to a long distance one, but i don't think a relationship without at least telefon can work in the long run.

Mr. The phunkeh thread is silly actually goes to the phunkeh thread. Tsk tsk.
You know he doesn't try and make jokes at home, although yesterday was funny as hell, but that's another thread!
On topic: If you don't plan on meeting up ever, you need to get a life. There I said it! Whatcha gonna do?

Bah D; Got too cluttered so..x3; No more adult dragons up there. Yes on topic.
Yes it does seem kinda pointless if you aren't planning on eventually meeting the person.

I'm in an online relationship too . Well, me and him meeting up on monday, thanksgiving . Since we live, not very far from each other . I mean, if you love that person then it doesn't matter if it's online or not, right ? It's up to you to decide how everything's going to work . If you guys aren't going to meet up with each other, it'll be pointless . Since you guys won't be able to spend time with each other .

I won't deny that love can happen anywhere but I don't feel I can do another long-distance relationship. I'm a very kinesthetic person so I need someone that I can feel and touch. Not in a dirty way, but just someone that seems tangible, warm, and something I can hug. I can't hug text unfortunately.
That said, I'm not going to limit the possibility of me falling in love online again; I just feel it's highly unlikely for it to happen again.

This may end up being way out there, but I'm going to share anyway. Hypothetically, what if someone is cursed with a pair of ridiculously overprotective parents who won't their son/daughter date until such-and-such an age? An online relationship can definitely be an escape behind closed doors.
Online relationships gave me an eye opener for sure and taught me a couple of things about trusting people.

Again as long as they plan on meeting up and really making something out of it online relationships are silly. It's just another way for someone to get hurt. I know this from experience. There were 2 guys who fell head over heels for me. One was in the next province over, the other lived in the states. I still can't understand why they wanted to have an online relationship with me because they never wanted to meet me. I wanted a relationship with someone who I could hold and feel, like Lin said, and guess what? Both were heart broken when GTR came along. The one said he was thinking on killing himself. Really? I mean really, over a relationship that was literally going no where. It's just silly and asking to be hurt.

Quick story... I knew a british guy (i live in US) who met a girl online, and ended up falling in love with her. He came to the US to ask her to marry him, in which she did, but unfortunately, she passed away soon after the marriage. I met him because he worked at the same Meijers as I, and we frequently talked about the issue and about him possibly moving back home. Eventually he did leave, and actually offered to bring me with him.
Point being, online relationships can work, with a certain amount of trust.

Online relationships disgust me. Dating someone who you don't even know personally?! Jeesh, kids are dumber than ever these days.

Miss Sane Online relationships disgust me. Dating someone who you don't even know personally?! Jeesh, kids are dumber than ever these days. You do know them personally, maybe not face to face but you do know them. You are seeing their personality which is a hugely important part of a person. Really saying an online relationship is disgusting just because you don't like it is childish. Online dating doesn't make a person dumb either.

Shannalee_Lace Well, how do u know if they r telling the truth about how old they r, wat they look like, even wat sex they r!!???????? *Points to Viral's posts* That's what video calls are for. Not everyone you meet online is out to get you. biggrin I agree that if you don't make an effort and actually plan on meeting up, then it is just a waste of time, no matter how idealistic you are. However, I don't think it's impossible, and although the disadvantages are obvious, I think there can be some advantages too - the Internet is a gateway for meeting new people that you otherwise might not have had the opportunity to come across, letting you meet people that you might not be able to physically meet first. ^^ ...And the latter applies for online friendships too.
