Aphismet thought about that for a moment before nodding with a smile. "Kind of like shrimp, but with a more distinct, meaty flavor. You'll see. If you don't like it, I'll make something else, that's all!" Aphi turned back to his grill, turning on the knob to let the workstation heat up before glancing back at Isi with a smile. "I can't see why you couldn't try! There are all kinds of ingredients over there and if you need anything else, just give me a holler and I'll find it for you, okay?"

Aphi smiled one last time, watching Isi file into the empty workstation with the other guest children as the parents set to work on Dinner. Orders slowly began coming in and Aphi turned his attention to his work, preparing the items ordered with expert efficiency.

Isi pondered the taste that Aphismet was describing to him and it took him some time accept it as it was said before he sat himself down on his work station off to the side. He pulled himself up onto the stool and set his crutches aside, leaning them on the counter. With the roll of his sleeves he began to mix flour and yeast together to make the dry ingredients for bread. Every so often he glanced up from his playing with the sticky compound, watching Aphismet admiringly from his station. For long moments at a time, Isi found himself just staring at how quickly and methodically his big brother worked, juggling ingredients together and working with such dexterity that he was sure Aphismet was some sort of super human.

"Wow," he breathed once, his fingers sinking into the dough before he realized that he was staring. With a quirk of his mouth, he shook his head and went back to kneading the dough after adding water. Around him, other children played with dough of their own and tried to keep themselves busy while their parents hustled around the kitchen in a manner that they had been doing for days on end.

The first two seatings came and went without a problem, heralding Aphismet's turn to take a break. A few minutes beforehand he'd dropped a pair of large lobsters into the boiling water, and it was at precisely ten at night that he took them out. He plated them as elaborately as he would any guest's, smiling to himself. He doubted Isikoro ever ate something so expensive before!

Taking the two plates, covering them with silver domes, Aphi turned from his station (leaving it in the capable hands of a coworker whose job it was to cover everyone's breaks) and walked to his brother's bread-dough-covered counter. "Mmmh, smells good over here! And I see all the kids are covered in dough, hahah!" The chef's eyes crinkled up in amusement. "Here, time to eat! Let's go out back, there's a small balcony for breaks. We can eat there."

The man waited for Isi to clean his hands and fetch his crutches before leading the way out back. The balcony offered a wonderful view of Durem, being on the top floor of the large hotel. There was only one four-seat table here, since not many people took breaks at once. Aphi set both plates down and lifted off the domes, revealing the ruby-red-shelled delicacies underneath. "Ta-daaah!" He announced, motioning with a flourish. "These cost about fifty dollars in season. Free for us! Here, sit and enjoy!" The white-haired man helped Isi to his seat, showing him how to use the tools to crack open the shells and get to the meat inside.

"Fifty dollars?" echoed Isi in shock as he carefully lowered himself into the seat. He twisted around and laid his crutches against the balcony railing, making sure that they wouldn't fall through or slip to the side before he faced his adopted brother again. He eyed the lobster suspiciously, trying to inspect every detail to find what could possibly make this sea-based crustacean worth $50. There were no diamonds, no strange colorings, no anything. Glancing at Aphismet over the top of the steaming lobster, Isikoro asked incredulously, "Honestly, what makes this sea scorpion that ate too many carrots worth 50 dollars? That's like...Too nice sweatshirts or...Fifty jaw breakers." He quieted down though as the older sibling began to show him how to crack open the shells. With a giddy smile blooming onto his face, he couldn't help but laugh at the unorthodox way of opening the darned water insect looking things. It was just...So messy!

"This is ridiculous," Isi said, laughing loudly as he wiped off some juice that had landed on his face. He picked into the cracked shell, pulling out some of the white meat onto the fork. He looked at it for a while, turned it around, and then dipped it in the sauce that Aphi had brought out. Shoving it into his mouth, Isi chewed and swallowed, his grey eyes lighting up. It was delicious! It was so buttery soft and melty...Isi felt himself sink a bit in his seat and he sighed happily, "So THAT'S why they're 50 dollars in season...Thanks, Aphi." he paused for a while and then dug in again to pull out more of the meat, "Say, can you believe that it's been nearly two years since we've first met and become brothers?"

Aphismet didn't answer when Isi demanded to know what made it worth so much money, only smiling and motioning to the lobster and waiting for the boy to give it a try. The chef was already chewing on his own by the time Isi took his first bite, and Aphi laughed at the boy's reaction. "They're only suitable certain times a year and they can't get fished infinitely since they have to ensure population, so that's why it's so expensive. AND it tastes delicious, yes. Enjoy!"

The white-haired man took another mouthful when Isi spoke up again, making the dark eyes blink and look up at the younger Delaran. "Two-... Really? That much already?" Aphi sat back and looked up, thinking, a slow smile spreading on his lips. "Wow, you're right! Two whole years... I can hardly believe it, time goes by so fast. It seems like only yesterday I ran into you chasing Beaubeau into this very restaurant... Hahah, how things work out, hm?" The elder brother chuckled, reaching over to ruffle the dual-colored head of hair across from him. "Well, these were honestly two of the best years of my life, Isi. You're one of the best things to ever happen to me. You know that, right?" Aphi paused in his eating to shoot his brother a beaming smile.

Isi acknowledged the fact of lobster pricing and he pried out some more of the delicious white meat with his fork. Stuffing it into his mouth, he let it melt against his tongue as he listened to Aphismet describe the fateful night that brought them together. Isi felt his chest warm up. Up until that point he had no idea that this was going to happen. He honestly thought that he was going to stay with Old Maasi until she died or until he, too, lost his mind along with his new raevan. He had no idea that it would work out to be this way! But he was glad of it, even when it meant all the trouble they had to go through in order to be this happy today. It was worth it all!

"We did have our fair share of unfortunate events," Isi pointed out with a furrow of his brows and the tilt of his head and he giggled as Aphismet reached over the table to tussle his hair. He looked up from underneath skewed bangs and pulled a bright smile onto his freckled cheeks, "Yeah, and you should know that it goes for you as well! I think I would've gone stir-crazy if I was left with that old coot for much longer. Thanks for coming in and making everything better. It was you who made this happen, I just appeared on your doorstep is all. You made the choice! And I'm glad you did."

Aphismet smiled happily at his younger brother. It did seem like everything had been working its way towards this, Aphi's whole life. Losing his own family, being alone so long, getting Rivener, and then adopting this opinionated young man who would have a Raevan of his own. One big, happy family.

"Well then, Isi, here's to many more happy years together!" Aphi declared happily, brandishing his lobster-bearing fork in lieu of a glass, knocking it against Isi's and taking the bite with a chuckle.

"Many more years," isi echoed, raising his glass to hear its chime against Aphismet's, "Many more years, brother." And when the ring of the glass dimmed, Isi glanced over the railing towards the night sky, lit up with the orange and sky blue glow of light from Durem's city.

Many more years, isi hoped, would he spend with Aphismet, Rivener, and Eiry, along with their cartload of other ghosts and pets, through think and thin, and probably more troubles too. The crippled lad knew though, that, no matter what the circumstances, he couldn't consider himself any luckier than he did that day.
