Dread Lycan Libra Zebra Okay I think I can help clear this up a little bit, assuming most people here don't speak Japanese. There is no "th" sound in Japanese, so they use the "s" sound instead since they are similar. So the name Aerith and Aeris are the same written in katakana, as well as Sephiroth and Sephiros. There are other names that are easily mistranslated, such as Zack, but they did a good job on making those true to their originals. ( Zack could have turned out as Zax or something...) So they're pretty much pronounced the same in Japanese, but in English they can be pronounced two ways, so that's why the spelling changed. (In Japanese they would be pronounced with the "s" sounds though.) I hope that helped. =) xD I actually called him Zax before I started calling him Zack. I thought that was his name. Well, at least I wasn't too far off. ((This is my second time posting this. It doesn't show up to mee, and I have no idea what everyone else sees, so let me know if i'm double posting...or something...this isn't the first time its happened today either...))

I'm surprised there's so much controversy over this name! IT's funny, how we can easily confuse the two names.

Her name in fact is Aerith. The people at Square made a glitch in translation. Like if you look at the kanji for Sephiroth's name, it's "Sepuirosu" Ultimately translating to Sephiroth. The same goes for Aerith. In japanese, her name is "Aerisu".

Funny, I spell Aerith, but say Aeris... Actually, I think I switch between calling her Aeris and Aerith- depending on who I'm talking to... I always spell it Aerith, no matter what.

It's already been explained a million times before, but with personal taste in mind, I prefer Aerith. It sounded odd saying it out loud at first, but like many things, I got used to it. Of the two variations, it is the most visually appealing when written on paper. Aeris is easier on the tongue, but Aerith carries an air of mystery to it, which I think would be well suited for our flower girl, because she is full of mysteries for a good portion of the game.

I always thought it was Aeris, because thats what my ffvii guide says and I believe what the game gives you, (I haven't played in a while, so forgive me if I'm wrong). However, I always heard some other people saying Aerith, which I didn't know why. When KH came out and it was Aerith I just thought it was because it was KH. Then crisis core came out and, yes the American version, had her as Aerith. That was when it was confusing to me.

I have heard that the translation into English was a poor one... her name is supposed to be a play on the English word "Earth"... "(e) - (a) - (ri) - (su) is the name in Japanese Katakana. "Su" is a common replacement for "th", which doesn't exist in Japanese."
So should be translated as, and pronounced "Aerith".

It's Aerith, we heard it live from Zack's mouth. Just accept it!
