Eichia looked from Ryan to Mariel, and paused for one, tail twitching moment.
Quietly, she climbed down off the jungle gym and, in a sudden moment of maturity, tugged lightly on Mariel's hand.
"Come pway."

Mariel looked to Eichia and then to Ryan, she still clung to the pole in fear, but she didnt want to be left alone. It was definately a dilemma. She looked to each of them again and loosened her grip on the pole a little bit. She reached out for Eichia but kept a wary eye on Ryan as he sat on the dirt. Sure he looked all harmless now but who knew when he would explode in weirdness and validate her personal space again! She took Eichias hand slowly and then made her way behind the squirrel girl. Mariel liked to keep a barrier between herself and the strange boy...

Ryan looked at the girls by tilting his head up and smiled! He was now laying down on the ground looking up at the sky, the boy with the snake had joined him. They where chatting about monsters, sports , and fear of school. The other kids on the gym where listening in. Ryan liked the people , the feel of the dirt on his skin , and most of all the sun beaming down on his face. He felt safe , and warm. His tail reflected happiness by moving back and forth much like a cats tail when being petted.
Gabriel and Ro where still sitting in the sand box , by now Ro-Honda had established that she was a princess and Gabriel was a king. They where eating cake and crumpets. They didn't talk much , but the bit of conversation warmed his heart. The elderly woman was even feeling a bit touched but she would never admit to it.

Eichia grinned at her new friends and tugged Mariel over to flop on the grass with the boys - next to Ro, and as far from the boy with the snake as possible.
Watching the clouds, she squealed with delight. "WROOK! A TWUCK!" She pointed excitedly at a fairly ambiguous cloudshape drifting by.
Elle shook her head, and settled down on a bench nearby to watch, stifling a yawn. These kinds of lazy afternoons always made her want to take a nap.

Gabriel didn't notice how close the children had gotten to the sandbox till the one girl got right next to corner of the sandbox where Ro was sitting. Ro-Honda looked down at the girl from her sandbox , but continued on making pretend smoothies out of sand. She handed Gabriel a drink. He took the plastic cup full of sand and pretended to sip it down slowly. "This is so good your going to take jamba juice right out of businesses". She smiled and went on to her own thing.
Ryan was in trance by the clouds , and sun. It was a great day for him. The boy with the snake got up and ran to his mother. Ryan sat up and waved to him. He waved back. His mother didn't look to happy with him. Now it was just Ryan and Eichia laying in the grass. "I think the duck turn into a sea slug now" he paused and touched his lips to make a thinking face. " You know the kind with all the arm things". He felt silly and started to roll around , not in a thrashing way but in a fun kiddie way.
Gabriel saw him rolling around ." Be safe Mr.Man , you don't want to poke your eye out". Ro-Honda didn't like that comment.

Mariel allowed Eichia to lead her to the ground far away from the snake and she lay in the sand as well. Mariel made sure to keep Eichia between herself and Ryan, but she did see another child in the sandbox playing with a man. She looked up at the clouds that the others were examining and Mariel began her own examination. She pointed up to the sky, " doggy, like Ebony!" Ebony was Mariels dog back at home. Well it was Lunas dog but it had attached to her so she called him hers. She pointed to another cloud "Chia!" This particular cloud had a long fluffy one trailing behind it and so to Mariel it indeed did look like the squirrel girl.
Mariel noticed Ryans tumbling and edged slowly away by instinct. She bristled a little and her tail stiffined in fear and anxiety but she did not act upon the impulses. She just made sure to keep an eye on him. She mentaly compared him to a girl she saw sitting in a sandbox. They looked almost the sameame tail, same ears, but the girl was so much calmer than the boy....she wondered why.

'Chi turned to look at the cloud Mariel had indicated. "Me!" She agreed.
She frowned in sudden concentration. "Wassa doggy?" She rolled over and propped up on one elbow, looking at Mariel curiously.
Meanwhile, Elle dozed, snoring softly on her bench. Her mouth hung open and a small string of drool dangled precariously from the corner of her mouth.

Mariel looked at Chia like she ws crazy! Didn't everyone have dogs?! Mariel turned her face so that she was looking straight at Chia and thought for a moment before trying to describe her doggy.
She opened her hands as wide as she could, "Dey big, and fuzzy." She mimicked petting the dog and holding its face. "Big face, sharp teef, and dey lick all da time. But dey dont eeet ju, just to taste." Luna had always disliked the dogs licking people and so had told Mariel to not let them lick her because they were tasting her and they would eat her if she let them. So Mariel assumed thats why they licked everyone, they liked the taste. There really was no other way to describe the dogs, she turned and looked at Eichia, wondering if she could picture a doggy now...maybe she was picturing Ebony in her head! Mariel looked at her and studied her face, trying to see what she was thinking.

Ryan looked at the girls and felt left out of the conversation he got up and started to play on the jungle gym. He started to climb up to slide part. This took him a few minutes. The slide was a mini maze also. It was bright red, it also round, and looked like a tube. He slid down the first part, then the secant part where we crawled to, two openings of ether a boring slide that swirled and doesn't seem to go fast or the slide that goes straight and so fast you think you’re going to die. He went down the fast one. The wind on his face made him feel strong and powerful almost like he was flying. He landed on the sand and padding and looked for the girls.
He waved to his Dad and he gave him thumbs up in return!

Big teeth? Taste people? That sounded too much like cats.
"Doggy liek cats?" She enquired, worry eclipsing her features. She hadn't had good experiences with the cat at home- it BIT her, and she had to go to the doctor, and boy-howdy, it had HURT...

Mariel wondered what a cat was before she answered. Maybe it was a different type of dog.....No but she said cat...so it couldnt be a dog, but...what was a cat?! Mariel decided to ask, at least it would satisfy her curiosity.
"Whas a cat?" Mariel had curitosity written all over her features, maybe Chia could show her one..was there one around?! Mariel looked around and noticed the boy on the slide. She watched him take the harder slide and move so quickly. She didnt know how he could do those things, it was so strange, he was so active, what if he got hurt!

Ryan saw Mariel looking up at him, he gave her a shaka. He liked the feel of a shaka more than waving. He wasn't sure if he wanted to sit down with the girls or go back on the slide.

Eichia grimaced, her tiny face wrinkling in dismay.
"Cat wittle. 'Bout dis big." She spread her hands a little over a foot apart.
"Deys mean. Deys bite. Deys make Chia hurt." She flashed a hand, sporting a big, bright purple bandaid. "Ziggy mommah's cat. Hes dos not wike Chia." She shook her head emphatically. "Hes got big long fuzzy tawil. Deys fuzzys all ovah. Hes got teeeeny tiny ears liek dis," she made two triangle shapes with her fingers on each side of her head. "And shawp teef. And claws."
She then looked up to sudden movement. The grey skinned boy was waving, but he had just his thumb and finger out....She tried to do it, but couldn't keep her ring finger folded. She grunted in frustration.

Mariel wondered about the cat description, they sounded nice enough, except thay made large purple spots appear on children. She had never seen a band aid and so assumed that the purple spot was what the cat had made and why Chia was so distressed. She wondered how exactly the cat made the purple spot..maybe they were magical! Cats didnt sound that bad. Once Chia told her how big they were she knew they couldnt be like dogs, dogs were so much bigger.
"Doggie big, when he stand, he tall as me!" She emphasized the last word and opened her arms wide. She saw Chia looking at the boy and turned to look at him too. He was doing a strange movement, she wondered what it meant. She saw Chia try to do it and tried it herself. She brought her hand close to her face so she could watch and made it into a fist, she then stuck up her thumb. It didnt seem that hard. She showed Chia.
"Whas it mean?"

Eichia frowned again, wiggling her fingers and scrutinizing Mariel's.
"'Unno." She looked up to Ryan and shouted, "WAT DIS MEAN?", waving her hand frantically.
At Mariel's description of a dog, she shuddered. "It eat pweopul?" She squeaked, somewhat terrified.
