"Well..." Yukiko tried to explain thinking about it, "It's getting colder these days, so I can't go swimming I'll get sick."
She knew mers didn't really feel cold, what being water creatures.
"And I don't really like swimming all the time."
She couldn't imagine swimming all the time, but she figured it was like her walking all the time. Looking down at Coni, she tried tickling the underside of his belly.

"Don't... Like... Swimming?!" said Kampa, so shocked that she didn't sound anything out. How?! Why?!
maybe it was the cold. maybe that was it.
Kampa wasn't sure if she liked the cold or not. She knew what it was, and she knew what warm water felt like, but...
coni immediately flops off her wrist, giving Yukiko easier acess to his belly. he makes no sound, but his toungue lolls out of his happy little mouth and his eyes close with pleasure. Tickling didn't tickle... it felt so good... this angel was so nice... nicer than his angel.
"I think that the water goes inside, too. I bet its warmer inside. In-syd."

"Well... Swimming isn't my favourite thing," Yuki shrugged a bit more.
She really couldn't understand what was the big deal, sure swimming was fun, but swimming 24/7 was a bit much. Besides she would get all pruny like, it kind of made her wonder why mermaids and mermen didn't.
"I like to garden more... though... it's going to be a lot of indoor plants when winter comes," she mused.
Though she was trying to see if she could help flowers continue to live in the winter, but it didn't seem to be working so well.

"Garden? Gaar-Den? really? How does that work?" asked Kampa, interested. Plants were pretty. Underwater plants were pretty too. there was some algae in the front pool, but that wasn't so pretty.
Coni lifts his head and looks down himself at Yukiko. Why had she stopped petting him? he yips, not wanting to move off of his back.

Yukiko giggled at Coni as he took her attention away from the conversation even though it was just for a moment. She tickled him under his chin, "You're quite a glutton for attention aren't you?"
He seemed to be just as content being petted or so it seemed to Yukiko. She looked back at Kampa.
"To garden is to put plant things like flowers, fruits or vegetables or even trees and bushes on land, and tend to them. Make sure they have enough water, and that they are well protected so they can grow."

For Kampa, the concept of not having enough water was scary and alien.
But she could understand the rest.
"Thats neat. You make them grow and they give you some beauty and food... did I get it? get-it?" she says, thoughtfully.
Coni murrs happily and wiggles a little. He loved attention.

Yukiko nodded at that, "That's right! Flowers are good for a lot of things, if it weren't for flowers, the plants can't make any fruit."
Which reminded the pumpkin flowers had finished blooming and while she wasn't fond of pumpkins to eat they were fun to carve into. Or so she had been told by some of her siblings.
"I hope to have a flower shop soon," Yuki added with a smile as she poked Coni, "He does just likes to be petted doesn't he?"

"Wow" she says in amazement. the land world was so neat! she thought for a moment, her swishing tail makig waves in the pond water.
"How do flowers make fruit? Fru-tt" she finally asks, interested. She knew what fruit was, and she knew what flowers were, but she knew nothing about pollenation. After all, she was only a few days old- after emergence.
"huh? oh yeah. Coni really likes being petted. He likes to play too. He's really fast. Fas-T.'
Coni squees happily at the poke and playfully nips the finger- just kind of gumming it. He didn't bite hard enough to break the skin or even for it to hurt, but just enough for the sharpness to be felt. like little needles.

"None of that now," Yukiko warned Coni as she pulled her finger away so she could scratch under his chin.
It kind of made her wonder how old he was, he was kind of a like a kitten. A bit of wind tugged at her hair and for a moment Yukiko paused in her playing to push it back behind her ears.
"Flowers when they become pollinated... err... when the yellow stuff that's inside the flower you sometimes see ends up in a different flower they start to make seeds down inside of it, and those seeds need to be protected so the flower will form fruit. So when the flower falls away a small fruit begins to form."
If that made any sense.

Kampa blinks. "I didn't know that flowers have yellow stuff inside them... eeen-syd..." she thinks for a moment and grabs a water lily. it happened to be a male water lily.
"Hey! it does have yellow stuff inside! Yell-low."
"But I don't get it. Why does it have to go to another flower? Fla-wurrr? Why can't it stay in the same flower and become fruit there?" she asks, sticking her face into he flower- a very late blooming variety- and getting pollen all over her nose.
Coni pawed the air in pure enjoyment, squeeing in a very high-pitched tone. this blue haired winged two legger was so nice! He didn't want her to stop. in the moment she took to push her hair back, he looked at her forlornly. He really didn't want her to stop playing with him.

How was she going to explain this without it sounding too weird? One would think something like this wasn't such a big deal after all.
"Because that's how flowers change over time," Yukiko tried to explain, "Flowers like to get better, and since the pollen has parts of the flower, when it goes into the other flower and mixes with it, the seed in the fruit holds aspects of both flowers. Like.. say a white lily and a pink lily switched pollen... the lily from that seed might be white or might be pink.. or maybe it might be a really light pink because it had a white flower. They're like parents... only they don't raise the baby flower."
She cradled Coni like a baby to demonstrate a bit.

Kampa blinked. "I don't understand... What does Asss-pekts mean? Why would they be pink?"
She picked up the lily, lifting it out of the water, "why wouldn't be yellow? Like the stuff inside? inn-syd?"
Coni was taken by surprise by the sudden lifting and cradling. This was a bit much for him. He felt too enclosed. he wiggled a little bit, trying to get the message across that he didn't want to be picked up liek that.

"Aspects in other word qualities, what makes a flower unique from another," Yukiko tried to explain.
Coni's wiggle was distracting her from the explaination so she set him on her shoulder instead. Since she really had to explain this concept well to Kampa.
"Because the whole flower isn't yellow, see this one is white. Pollen is only one part of the flower and pollen for a type of flower is always the same colour. Pollen is used to create seeds, when they are inside a different flower they can make seeds, but since the pollen could be from a flower of a different colour it might make a different coloured flower."

"So an azz-pekt is like the parts of the word I sound out?"
Kampa tilted her head and thought for another moment, swishing her tail back and forth in the water.
"So what would happen if that yell-low flower there..." she points to a marigold in one of the gardens "Shared yellow stuff with the pink flower here? Shay-rrd?" she lifts the lily.
Coni liked this better. his wings were free, so if he wanted to, he could take off... but he was too relaxed.
the nice gentle-handed pretty blue-haired feathered two legger was making an awful lot of mouth noises... he didn't understand or care, but they made a nice vibration in her shoulder. he happily draped himself over, murring.

"Well... it might not mix well because they're two different flower types," Yukiko admitted looking between the two.
Though having those two flowers together would be really cool.
"But there might be a yellow lilly... or a pinkish yellow one... or the petals might be a tad different," she thought about the possibilities.
