01. Penguins Have Been Known to Incite Conflagration
Korri wandered the aquarium, only giving the fish cursory glances. Fish were boring and normal. He could see fish in a goddamn pond if he wanted to see fish. He wanted to see some horrible mutants today. Horrible mutants, and maybe penguins. The young man figured that the most logical place for horrible mutants to be would be in the Creatures of the Deep display or, more so, the dark hall full of critters that preferred the nighttime. Ignoring the signs that declared food was not to be brought inside, Korri sucked on his fruit icy pop and let his eyes adjust.
He immediately felt jipped.
There were no horrible mutants here. Just pale fish. Pale fish and holy Jesus what was that?! He excitedly scampered over to a tall, long tank, leaning over a few children to get a good look at what was inside. A woman in 50s-era clothing bumped into him, but he mostly ignored her.
Those were some horrible mutants! They looked like salamanders, but with long mouth like the Honkers from Sesame Street. They also had long fronds, pinkish and weird, and they were white! What a cute little mutant...
And then something red flashed beneath a piece of fake seaweed. Hm? Korri looked toward it and OH GOD OH GOD. Water bubbled and boiled. Red and orange and yellow, leaping and climbing. It was fire! UNDER WATER! The ice pop hit the ground and people began to run. The glass went dark, black, smoky, and then broke, spilling cool (what?!) water across the hall. Two little shapes slip in the water, and Korri thought for a moment that it might have been the kids he had leaned over. Further investigation, though, proved that they were no human children. Then were Horrible Mutant children. "Axolotl" kids, as he would later discover on a return trip to the aquarium. For now, though, he had to run from an irate Indian man wielding a mop, hefting the little girls up and waddling away as quickly as he could.

02. Dear Diary...
Part of me wonders why I was "stuck" with two little girls. The rest of me wonders "why not"? Families on Gaia are so strange...people get kids whether they want them or not and get no real choice in the matter. I guess it's better than having a bunch of babies having babies or what have you, but it's still nothing like home. Granted, this is my home now, so I'd damn well better get used to it. Ether way, I think I just heard something crash.

04. Dear Diary...
I met a woman today who didn't give me any strange looks. I am undoubtedly unusual, even for Gaia, but she was quite kind, if not a bit silly. Abby seemed to enjoy the company of another, older tomboy (another child I assume was found or thrust upon Crescentia) while Hannah was terribly shy until the other child showed that she was just as unfortunately shy. She had a goose of some kind too, which was rather odd. All in all, having children is both a delight and a great weight on my shoulders. I enjoy it, and would want my life no other way. Mother would be proud.

09. Dear Diary...
I can already see the girls developing entirely differently. Certainly I expected this (fraternal twins have not ever been known for sharing thoughts or preferences), but perhaps not to such an extent. After all, I have raised them together and in the same way. I guess this is a good example of nature over nurture. Abby and I have started playing catch, and Hannah seems intent on using her allowance to buy things for her new doll she's coined Adele. That thing frightens me to no end, but Hannah seems to adore her, and that's all that really matters.

(For Hannah) A basket arrives just a few days short of Christmas, in the same manner as the basket that had originally arrived with the request to be filled. Many goodies are inside! Quote: The basket had been a bit overfillled with the five boxes and a wrapped up (in cloth) something. The giver hadn't been particularly practical with the space but one can't always expect perfection from a child. The boxes were neatly wrapped but the soft blanket around the final item wasn't quite on all the way. The one box contained what appeared to be a large assortment of masquerade masks and capes. They were all rather neat and pretty, probably usable for dressup games and all sorts of play. There were the kinds with adjustable straps on the back to hold onto one's face (none of the cheap crummy elastic bands, at least), and some that were just held up with sticks. There were silky shawls and thicker capes. And one that was velvety and crimson with a hood for some peculiar reason. Whoever had picked the items in that box out had probably had a LOT of fun in the costume section. The second box was smaller than the first but contained costume jewelry - some gaudy and some rather elegant and tasteful. There were pins, broaches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings (some clip on, some not) and all were shined up and very obviously clean. If any had come from an antique dealer, that wasn't obvious anymore. Each item gleamed like new and like jewels (whether they actually were or not. In most cases that was unlikely but there was at least one pair of diamond studs in a small black box. But they were little and simple enough not to be guady on a small girl). The third was longer and thinner. It held canes and fake magic wands, and even what seemed to be a fake sword (it was, the sheath wasn't removeable and it was purely for decoration, but the giver had thought it might be neat to hang up, particularly due to the floral designs in the metalwork). The fourth was the smallest and thinner than the third. It contained a bunch of strange folded up objects. However, on closer inspection, they turned out to be elegant little asian style fans with pretty pictures on the inside of them. Well, except for one that was pure wood. That just had neatly detailed little bits to it. How pretty! The fifth and final box was just a bit smaller than the first. That one just contained an assortment of funny hats for playing with. Small ones, medium ones, and one large fuzzy top hat. There were also some fake crowns (but not the cheesy plastic ones, these were at least decent) and some of those weird white bun things that women used to wear on the sides of their heads, the ones with the gold netting on them. Besides the odd boxes, there was the blanket covered item. When one lifted the blanket they found.....a sheep? It seemed to be lacking a real torso, mostly looking like a puffball with a small face, little roundy horns (they were rounded on the ends) and teensy hooves. How cute? Luckily it was able to breath through the holes in the box. That was good at least. It seemed to be rather durable too, able to be bounced and not hurt by that. The perfect gift for a kid? -shrug- Who knew really. At least it probably wouldn't eat too much. (IOU on the pet art at the very least. We can discuss the specifics of the rest later. You know who I am and can ask ninja ) Happy holidays!

A basket arrives just a few days short of Christmas, in the same manner as the basket that had originally arrived with the request to be filled. Many goodies are inside! Quote: For Abby: A large machine is perched where the first basket had originally arrived, but after some inspection, it is clear that an identical basket, albeit slightly "modified" (with part of its side cut out) is incorporated into the machine, which seems to consist of a strangely bolted together aluminum frame and a bike wheel. http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/92/machinert7.jpg Inside the basket are several rocks with faces crudely etched into their sides, http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7366/facesyg1.jpg as well as a LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit, with this picture on the side: http://chrissyhejny.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/lego-robot.jpg A note is taped to the side. It reads: Dear Abby, I saw you playing baseball at the park if you are the same Abby. So I made you a baseball playing machine that can throw balls at you if you crank the rubber band enough. Then you can catch them or hit them if you want. Since girls who play baseball don't play with dolls (but every girl plays with dolls, even I know that), I made you some boy-girl dolls. It is one doll with lots of faces, and it's a ROBOT! And you can put the faces on top of it when you build it. Oh and I gave you caramels and chocolate chip scones because they taste very good.

Quest Time!
What fun is being a twin when you can't play tricks on people?
Exi makes a secret trip to visit Hannah and Abby for the new year, deciding to have a little fun herself. She casts a spell that will only last 36 hours: a spell that casts a guise over Abby and Hannah that makes them appear to be the other!
There's nothing to be done but to let the spell run its course. What will happen in these fateful 36 hours? Will either one try to tell an authority about the swap, or will they have more fun posing at the other and possibly ruining the other's image for others? A girly Abby? A sporty Hannah? What chaos will erupt from this!
In no less than three posts, with one post each from the perspective of the subsequent child, please let us know how Exi's little prank plays out. Good luck, young Hiccups!

10. Quest pt. 1
"Nuh-uh! NUH-UH!" Abby yelped, brushing off her dress and ripping it off as quickly as she could. Being half-naked was better than being in a dress! She wasn't sure what had happened but, god bless her, she figured it was something magical and something that made her look all icky-ick girly. She reached up to touch her hair and found it an odd, pale orange. Oh, no. Oh, man! She was Hannah! She looked over at the horrified girl in her dirty pants and torn shirt. It was her, but it wasn't! No! That could only be poor Hannah! Tears welled in Hannah's eyes and Abby grabbed her hand, shrieking and running toward the house.
"DADDY!!!"

11. Quest pt. 2
Hannah swallowed hard. Something wasn't right. She just knew it. She looked down at her legs and saw tight pants with butterflies embroidered on the leg; not her style at all. Her elbows hurt...they hurt so bad! Closer inspection showed that they were raw and bleeding. She'd just watched her sister collapse into a muddy river moment before, chasing some kind of odd animal, and now, here she was.
As her sister.
Hannah wasn't used to getting hurt, being the prim and proper girl she was, and the dirt and mud in her hair and clothes only made the urge to cry worse. The poor girl let go, tears streaking down her cheeks as she...well, her sister...grabbed her by the arm and started running inside with her.

12. Quest pt. 3
Korri had never been one to over-react. In his homeland and here on Gaia, magic was one of things things one simply learned to deal with. He immediately tried to calm the girl, giving Hannah-in-Abby's-body a bath and a dress and a nice up-do before putting Abby-in-Hannah's-body in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. It was only noon then.
Korri had to explain to the poor girls that he couldn't do anything for them at least until the next day. A wizard of some kind could probably (almost definitely) switch them back, but all respectable wizards had bookings weeks in advance. He used the phone to call a local witch and make an appointment for the next Wednesday at 6.
Abby and Hannah were quiet, sometimes crying. They picked at their food and played in their room so silently Korri had to check more than once to see if they'd wandered away. The girls refused to go outside. They didn't want to be each other!
The next day was just as quiet and sullen, but when they awakened the next day, the girls leaped from their beds. Hannah did a happy, twirling dance. Abby skipped around with a teddy bear thrust high over her head. They were back to normal!
Korri knew his girls well enough to see that this all hadn't been a big prank on him (he hoped) and so called to cancel his appointment with the Good Witch Baphmordia. Too bad he'd already put money down.
