"Idda-bewwa," Izzy replied, seeming to wriggle down the rock without moving much, "Iddy."

Lacy's face scrunched up into a look of pure skepticism, and she looked over the girl's shoulder at her father as though to say 'what the crap, man'. Then she looked back at 'Iddy', shaking her head slightly.
"Swim?" she asked plainly.

Izzy simply nodded again and slid into the water, paddling like a dog.

Nodding in approval, Lacy dove headlong into the water and circled Izzy like a shark, surfacing just above eye-level. Without a second thought she dove under again and left the shallows, tumbling around underwater in the suddenly stronger currents. Surprised but unworried as she was dragged further underwater, she held her breath and pondered how she would surface again.
Forethought. She didn't have it yet.

Izzy watched and then toddled over to where Lacy had been dragged under. Her muscley feet kept her from being tugged under herself. Hrm. Lacy need help?

Lacy grabbed onto a rock as she was tumbled along the bottom of the river, looking up serenely. Small bubbles escaped from between her lips and tangled in the cloud of her floating hair, and she wondered mildly again how she would get back to the surface. Her tail flicked behind her and she was stricken with a sudden idea, and let go of the rock. She kicked her legs, waved her arms, and flicked her tail again, and moved upward. Ah ha!
...now to just get up a few more feet, and she'd be all set. She assumed.

Instead, Izzy reached down and grabbed Lacy's hand, tugging her to the surface with her misleadingly muscley hands.
"There."

Blinking in surprise, Lacy gave an experimental tug of her hand. Nope, Izzy had her good and tight.
"Strong," she said in approval, nodding once more.

Izzy let Lacy go and looked down at her hand. Wiggly muscles!
"Chie-ton."

Alright, maybe she hadn't made it up. Sitting down so she was neckdeep in the water again, Lacy glanced over at the so-far nonparticipating father-guy-thing.
"Him too?"

Puzzled, Lacy squinted at the man, then shrugged.
"No tail," she pointed out plainly. "Thass kinna weird."

Looking infinitely skeptical, Lacy just shook her head and dove under the water again, carefully staying in the shallows. She stayed under for close to fifteen minutes, chasing fish and frogs before surfacing again.
"Come play," she called to Izzy. "Boreded."
