Seraphynthetic
AND AGAIN I POST:

This is the dress I got a Hot Topic for homecoming:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302024145&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524442086589&bmUID=1128101017930
I'm not fond of the model, but it's still a lolita style dress (and I think the name is cute too: Tokyo Doll Dress).

I do hate how it's not of good quality, but it was $64 so I don't really care 'cause it's not like my other dress that I spent over a $150 on.

Now I also can not stand these people that diss Hot Topic and the people who shop at the store.
I shop there. I know other people who shop there.
This hole "Goth is an architecture and ancient people. I'm nonconformist so I don't shop at Hot Topic. I won't wear anything that someone else already owns or buys after I buy mine" ideas bug me. They're unfair.
So what if I shop at Hot Topic every now and then? I'm gonna wear what I LIKE. If it happens to come from a mass producing store that is well known for its poor quality or if it's ordered from some unknown dress maker in China, WHO CARES?
I mean, really, how childish are you gonna be? It's clothing for christsakes!
I mean, I do not shop at Old Navy, but that's because of a bad memory from childhood involving that store. I know people who shop there. They sell cute boxers that I wouldn't mind getting a pair of for my boyfriend. It has nothing to do with "OMG Old Navy isn't gothic." or "Eeeew! Old Navy is so not kawaii! They don't sell anything lolita-esque in there."
I mean seriously. Does it really matter in the long run? No. Not at all.
And personally, I do find the dress I bought at Hot Topic to be truly lolita. Maybe not the best lolita dress, but it fits the desription. Sure Hot Topic is just trying to make money, but that's just what Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is doing, that's what Mary Magdeline is doing: trying to make money. So what if Hot Topic is going about this lolita thing the worng way, it's still lolita.
I mean, would you hate Mana if he came to America and saw that dress and bought it? Would you really? If you really feel the way you do, than you would hate Mana if he did such a thing.
Yes, I realize it's HIGHLY unlikely that Mana will do such a thing, but if he did...?

If you still don't see my point of view, read this journal that I posted on DA about an argument I recently got in with a friend over the same issue:

Quote:
And then at lunch today, Justin was a total a**. I mean yesterday he said that I was "too Hot Topic." Okay, no big deal. Maybe I am, even if I haven't bought anything from there in months and the last thing I did buy was 4 months ago and was for a friend not for myself. I don't see any problem with shoipping in stores. But Justin does. I don't think that because lately I've been buying most of my clothes at Charlotte Russe and the Body Shop makes me preppy. I like the clothes there, and they're at good prices (except Charlotte...@_@ ). And then I told him how Dan is taking me to see The Corpse Bride this Saturday and he starts going on how its gonna be such a bullshit movie because Hot Topic endorses it. This made me REALLY mad. I've been waiting for this movie to come out for over a year. This was before Hot Topic endorsed it and before I knew Johnny Depp was voicing Victor. I LOVE ZOMBIES. Plain and simple. He needs to quit being such an a*****e (seriously, he's been worse than Dan lately... >_< ). It shouldn't matter where people buy their clothes. It shouldn't matter what company endorses what you like. I mean, I support PETA, but not everything they do. PETA's not going to tell me to go ******** myself because of that. :/
And then he calls me Rebecca. His words were "The ******** b***h goes by Recca to be and cool and different. Her real name is Rebecca and I'm gonna call her that 'cause she's ******** Hot Topic chick." I then told him, "Hey, if you wanna call me by my real name, then it's Lisa. It was changed to Rebecca after I was adopted, b***h." (I was getting angry). I don't consider Rebecca to be my real name. I've been going by Recca since the 6th grade, and that was before I knew Hot Topic existed! I didn't find out about Hot Topic until Dani-cakes asked me if I shopped there. And besides, what I go by does not make me a "******** Hot Topic chick."
I know I'm not making any sense, but it made me really mad that I'm being judged like that by him. I've stood up for him when people have talked smack about him. He was my first friend at Gulf Breeze. But he just crossed the line. I seriously lost all my respect for Justin today. And just because he wants to be so original and different.
Well, if he wants to label me, then he CAN say that I'm "a Mana and Rob Zombie poseur who loves zombies, is a vegetarian, draws anime and anthro, and I will call her Lisa because that is her real name."

Do you see what I mean yet?

THANK YOU. i've been trying to get this concept out to people for ages. You've put it wonderfully.

i probably wouldnt buy a dress from hot topic even if i really liked it just because of the quality of their clothes. every item of clothing and jewelry ive ever bought there has fallen appart. their stockings are good, same with their shoes, but the clothes and jewelry just dont hold up. i was in there yesterday to buy hair dye (expensive!) and stockings, but i didnt even bother to look at their clothes.

The hot topic in england doesn't sell lolita clothes. YAY!
PostPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2005 1:59 pm

theres a hot topic in England ?!?!?!!

my excuse has always been...i don't give a s**t. I come from England, and to be honest with you, i like some of the things they sell, before and still after i got into Gothic Lolita. I do dislike their Gothic Lolita clothing, but seeing as i really am not in the place to say 'oh i'm not going to buy that crap' because to be frank, i don't have the money to buy authentic Metamorphose or Babytssb clothing. if i had the money, i would.
I think some people need to understand that there are people in this world who don't even get the opitunity to get to shop in places like that, here in England there are no decent little 'goth' shops. i'm lucky, i live near Brighton, Alternative central. But it's not the point.

When i was in Manhatten for 5 days, i looked high and low for a Hot Topic, just because i want to see what this hype is all about, and i've always wanted to go in there and spend some cash. and i will when i go to Florida biggrin

It's like your saying 'lets boycott Hot Topic because of blah blah blah, but lets ignore McDonalds and Starbucks etc, the apparen 'real' scum of the earth'

...sorry lol

I've seen the dress you're talking about and like it. Don't hit me! crying I want to know where in america I can get a goth loli dress for cheaper than $64. I'm not condoning Hot Topic calling it a loli dress, or them even attempting to call it a Tokyo dress, all I'm saying is that for once HT has the cheapest dress I can find.

You guys don't seem to realize that if cheap lolita-esque clothing starts getting sold here and makes a large profit that we will get bigger companies wanting to set up a following here! And when the hype dies down we'll have our nice-quality dresses that we got during the flood of the fad for cheaper than ordering it over-seas. And if it gets more people to like EGL...oh well. The fashion doesn't belong to us, we can't claim it and snap at everyone else who glances at it. The more, the merrier! Being a loli is about manners as well as fashion, and it is bad manners to be mean-spirited.

You're pissed off because there's a chance this fashion will suddenly become slightly well-known and then you'll no longer get to feel as though it's an elite club.

Grow the hell up.

She does have a point. When you act the way you've been acting over this... I mean boycotting store because they sell the fashion that YOU wear? Seriously... neutral
Maybe you honestly don't like the way it looks, but I'm happy that lolita might possibly be becoming more mainstraim. I mean if Hot Topic sells it, other stores will get it in 'cause right now it's really cool to be "bad." mad
And the Tokyo Doll Dress does seriously look like something you would find in a Gothic Lolita Bible (although it is seriously lacking a giant bow...but i can remedy that).
I also like being able to pay $64 (nearly $70 with tax) for a cute loli dress. I also like not having to worry about sneaking behind my parents' backs and having my boyfriend order me a dress online. I want lolita to go mainstream. I want to see cute girls and boys walking around in school and at the mall wearing lolita clothes on a daily basis. That excites me!
Besides if you feel this way about lolita possibly becoming mainstream...then think of this...
How do you think Mana feels that you wear lolita? Do you think he's pissed at us Americans (and other non Japanese) for wearing lolita? Do you think the other Japanese lolitas are pissed at us? I mean to them, surely our lolita is just a fad and is disgracing them.
See how stupid that sounds?
You're being either selfish or childish. Pick one. neutral

So I officially bought the "tokyo" dress off of the internet. I'll tell you all about the quality of the dress when I get it (probably on Saturday) for the final jurisdiction.

My only present qualm with Hot Topic's selling quote unquote "Gothic Lolita" apparel, which it is not!!!, is the few EGL posers at my school. "My favorite place in the world is Hot Topic!" I am not kidding. She said this. This is what she said to ruin all possibilities of attaining my friendship and respect. What a lowly piece of s**t. This is why older jaded goths hate teengoths so ******** much.

Augh! scream

I got the dress! I know you've all been sitting on pins and needles to try and find out about the quality of my dress and here it is: I love it. I absolutely love the dress, and it fits me perfectly. My only beef with it is that I wish there was more layers of tulle mesh to foof out the skirt higher. The detail on the dress is superb, maybe I'll get some piccies of me in it. 3nodding
