"UM UM UM." Keres's fright has done a total one-eighty in the span of a second and she now clapped her hands lightly in a similar manner to Kaimi's dancing steps.

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh," she stalled and started to rummage through the canvas bag that hung from her shoulder. She finally pulled out a large crumpled ball of cellophane wrap from an earlier sandwich.

After she waved it triumphantly in the air for a few seconds, she started to un-stick it from itself. "We can like... fold up the corners and sides and put some water in it, and the crab, and then twist the top! ... hopefully," she added. She held the cellophane wrap flat on her palm and then took up its corners.

"Uuuuhhh..." Kaimi echoed, still wiggling her hands nervously as she watched Keres fold up the cellophane. She wasn't sure what she thought of the thing scraping around and occasionally pinching her. But at least she hadn't dropped it, she reminded herself.

While the sandwich wrapper transformed into a baggie, Kaimi found herself grinning as adrenaline pumped through her body. The scent of flowers that she always carried with her strengthened noticeably as she skittered around. "Is it ready yet?" She really, really wanted to let go of this thing, despite being happy they'd managed to catch a crab.

Keres held up each necessary side and then dunked the "baggie" into the surf as it washed up around them. As she straightened up, she paused for a moment and wiggled her nose, the smell of flowers strong in the air. Where had that come from? She gave a one-second look around, but in the end just shrugged to herself and pushed the thought to the back of her mind.

"Hurry, hurry!" she said and held out the water-filled bag out to her.

With a great deal of relief, Kaimi dropped the little crab into the pseudo-baggie and then brushed her hands off on her soaking skirt. "Is it alive?" She was pretty sure it was, since it had been pinching her. But still, she peered at the plastic eagerly to see if all their efforts really had paid off.

The sphinx-child watched as the little crab floated to the bottom of its new domain before she moved her face up to it.

Blinking her feral gold eyes, Keres watched the crab move its little leggy things near its mouth. "I think so. ...It's move at least."

Kaimi nodded, satisfied, then turned her grin to Keres. "How come your not in school?" She asked, unsure wether the other girl actually went to school, or if she was skipping class like Kaimi was.

The question caught Keres off guard and baffled her. School? She knew what it was, of course, but she hadn't gone there.

"Uuuuuuuuuuhhhhh..." she stalled, her mouth open in a stupid fashion. "Just because?"

Kaimi grinned a little more. "Thats where I'm supposed to be right now. But I don't really like it. Naomi doesn't know that I skip most of the time..." She smirked a little about this fact, an expression that rarely crossed her face. "But she works all day, so she wont find out. I'd rather be here, at the beach."

Keres gave a small cackle of a laugh. "Haaaaaha, rebel!" she cried, and then gave a quick glance up the beach. "Anya would kill me. ...And there's always somebody at home. The beach is the only place I'm allowed to be alone at -- and the mall, but whatever."
PostPosted: Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:17 pm

Kaimi blinked once or twice, and then grinned. Rebel had never been a word she would have used to describe herself, but now that it had been applied to her, she rather liked it. "Yeah, well... Naomi isn't around much so... like I said, she doesn't know. Hey, I brought some sandwiches with me, you want one?"

Keres pondered the offer for a moment, but as her stomach gave a demanding rumble, she nodded her head. "Yeah, ok!" she said. "I didn't think I was hungry, but apparently I thought wrong. What kind to you have?"

"Peanut butter and banana and peanut butter and jelly." Kaimi grinned. She didn't eat meat, not for any moral cause but merely because it never seemed to agree with her tastebuds or her stomach. But she had developed a wicked adoration for peanut butter. "But if you want meat we could maybe try to catch a fish..." She looked a little doubtful at the prospect, however.

Keres couldn't stifle a laugh about the catching-a-fish thing. "Naaww, I'll just take the PB and J. Though trying to catch a fish could be fun! I've never tried it..."

Kaimi retrieved a beach blanket and the brown paper baggie that held the sandwiches as well as a thermos full of juice. "It's a proper picnick, isn't it?" She grinned, plopping down onto the blanket and passing over a sandwich. "How come you're not supposed to go out on your own?"

Keres lowered herself down into a lying position, half-way on the blanket and half off. She tucked around her scaly tail and folded her wings against her back. "I guess it is," she replied and took the sandwich that was offered to her. She quickly set it down on top of her feline feet, though, and held up the water-filled baggie that contained the crab. She twisted the top of the cellophane bag tight and placed it in between her fingers in such a way that it wouldn't come undone.

"I dunno," she answered Kaimi while she picked up the sandwich again. "I guess Anya thinks I'll get in trouble or something." Keres gave a shrug of her shoulders. "She lets me come to the beach, though, and that works fiiiine with me!"

She took a bite of the sandwich and looked at Kaimi. "Are you allowed to go out on your own?"
