Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: September 30 , 2005 20 : 57 (24 hour time)Subject: wtf. Entry:What the hell. So, like today was the shitty start of my shitty day that ended with a shitty ending. I don't like the word shitty. I'm digressing. Where was I again? Oh yeah, my crappy job. So I logged on to the university website to find a job, and appearantly, the only job I'm qualified for is dishwasher. WHAT THE HELL. I'm a college student and with my massively impressive job experience I'm only qualified to be a dishwasher?! That's no job for any self-respecting college freshman. ....so I ended up taking the job anyway. Because I'm a poor college student, and that sucks. Yeah, I know, I know. I'll deal with it.
Turns out that I'm not going to be waiting for my hands to prune in hot soapy water in some noisy Durem restuarant for minumum wage after all. Went to contact the employer and discovered that what I was REALLY going to be doing is washing petri dishes and test tubes at the university lab. I'm going to be paid 1000 Gold an hour to load used lab equipment into the dishwasher, simply because the professor in charge of the lab is too old and outdated to figure out how to properly work a dishwashing machine. Not bad at all.
The only drawback is that some of the chemical remnants on the test tubes and such may be poisonous, corrosive, or otherwise potentially hazardous, requiring special handling and treatment. No wonder the job asked for a background in chemistry.
But of course, just when I realize there's something good about the job, something else goes horribly wrong. So wrong that I shall now describe to you in horrific detail everything that happened.
------------------------------------------------ I stood in the doorway, sneaking glances at my cell phone. I wasn't on time, as usual, but I don't think 7 minutes is too late.....besides, the lab seemed to be empty. The professor was nowhere in sight.
I stepped inside since nobody stopped me. Damn, is it a mess in here, I thought. My room could be considered clean in comparison. On one of the lab tables there was a HUGE pile of empty test-tubes, vials, beakers, petri dishes and graduated cylinders that literally stacked up to the ceiling. Which wasn't saying much, because the ceiling was low and the table was high. But damn, was that a nightmarish pile of dirty chemist dishes....
"That's your job," a wheezy, raspy voice coughed out. "I don't touch it because I'm too short to reach the top of the pile," the voice continued from what appeared to be a large stack of papers. A few seconds later, a white, fluffy and diminutive form emerged from beside the paper stack.
It was small, white, and resembled a bleached bale of hay.
It was the professor.
"You must start from the top of the pile and work your way down," the professor wheezed out. "If you pull out ones from the bottom, the whole thing will collapse. So, good? I will go to the science department to pick up my new order of bunsen burners. If you finish before I get back I'll talk to the university about raising your pay."
"Err....sure, professor....uh?"
"Dimplewimple."
"Uh....yes, professor uh...Dimplywrump."
"Well then, carry on," the tiny man said, waving a hand gallantly in her general direction. "There's an extra lab coat over there for you, as well as some gloves and goggles." He pointed to a corner where an old, stained and dirty lab coat hung from a rusty hook in the wall. That said, he swept out of the room. Like a feather duster. A very old and gray feather duster.
I eyed the heavily stained lab coat. It had patches, was dirty, dusty, and with something that looked suspiciously like a rat tail hanging out of one of the tattered pockets.
I sighed. It was going to be a long day. Mood: Annoyed Music: Nice to Know You - Incubus

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: October 18 , 2005 21 : 35 (24 hour time)Subject: Horrific first day, in horrific detail Entry:So I was sitting in one of the high blue chairs, reading some outdated physics magazine while waiting for the dishwasher to finish the last load, and, well....here's an account of what happened.Shuura Bored out of her mind, Shuura idly tore up some random lab report she found on the floor, waiting for the dishwasher to finish working. A large pile of various test tubes, bottles and petri dishes have already been washed and now sparkled cleanly on a nearby lab table.
"They don't pay me enough for this," Shuura grumbled to herself, although she was earning 1000 Gold an hour as a dishwasher for the school lab. Glancing at the clock, it was already half past 4. She had been here since noon. The professor in charge of the lab still hadn't come back.
A pile of shredded paper at her feet, she began to doze off... Koyuki Shirogane "ORAHHH~~ HEY!" Koyuki flounced into the room, being here on a very special-and-obviously-unimportant errand, carrying a bottle and another bottle and a packet and her very special lucky charm from someone. [However, she forgot who.] "Oh wowwwww," she stared at the stack of dishes stacked up to the ceiling in awe, "It's like.. the Gambino Tower... which went... boom." With those words, she poked the stack of dishes with her forefinger, gently of course, but... Crash."... Uh, oops." Shuura CRASH. Shuura woke with a start. ""HOMFGWTFWASTHAT!!" Blinking furiously, Shuura opened her eyes to a horrid sight.
Broken glass covered the floor. It seems that the whole pile of glassware had collapsed and...well....got broken.
Shuura gawked at the destruction.
Standing right behind all her destroyed work was a female wearing a white lab coat.
........Shuura was starting to loathe lab coats. Koyuki Shirogane "Ahn, sorry 'bout that! Did I wake you up? It's terrible to be woken up from a nap by a crash, really, goodness knows how often my babies do that to our porcelain figures," she babbled on cheerfully, bouncing around the room -- and somehow avoiding the shattered pieces on the floor. Koyuki -- the notorious woman who seems to get high off the very oxygen that surrounds her -- came about today, to the university to do something for her uncle regarding the bottles she carried. Except, she waited around 3 minutes for the guy to show up and he never did. So she decided he wasn't worth her time and went about to explore. Shuura Woman---crash---babies--- Shuura stared blankly at the....hyperactive figure bouncing around the glass-strewn floor, at a loss of what to say.
And of course, at that moment, the professor chose to come back. He took one look at the scene and barked sharply to the shocked Shuura: "You. You're fired." Koyuki Shirogane Koyuki whipped her head around to look at the figure behind her -- oops, there goes her hair, whipping the poor man in the face -- and gasped. "Fired! FIRED! You are such an insensitive NUT! Don't fire the girl! I was merely curious as to the laws of gravity." She jumped about dramatically, as if this were the stage and she was the star. Apparently she was freely enjoying the lack of limitations in movement since her de-pregnancy. "If you fire her, I'll fire YOU!" She cried, and then paused. Reaching into her coat pocket, she drew out her spectacles and put them on, examining the old man. "... well, meaning no disrespect, sir." Shuura This hadn't been a good day, and between the weirdo professor and the weirdass woman.....it was just too much for her brain to handle right now.
"Whatever," Shuura muttered to herself. The day was getting progessively weirder and when things began to weird her out, she tended to take the easy way out and....
...ESCAPE!! She dashed towards the exit and out the door. Then paused. And dashed back to fling the tattered lab coat she was wearing to the floor. "You still need to pay me for the 4.5 hours that I was working," she threw back at the professor and ran off before he could say anything to counter her. Koyuki Shirogane "Ah! Wait! WAIT!!" Koyuki called out and sprinted after this unknown-and-unnamed-woman-who-was-fleeing-from-her-for-no-reason! On her way out, she bowled over the poor, confused professor who looked like he was going to have a heart attack anytime now. Shuura Shuura had never been a very good runner. In fact, she was never good at any kind of strenuos physical activity, period. Her high school GPA might have been something to consider, if she actually studied once in a while, or if she hadn't totally barely passed PE class with a low C.
Therefore, it was no surprise that the strange woman was able to overtake her in a matter of seconds. Koyuki Shirogane Koyuki, not paying attention to the gradual slowing down of the woman in front her, ran straight into her, tripped on her heels, and everything went boom. "... Ow. That was fun." One of her bottles rolled onto the floor, twirling in a large circle and away from Koyuki.Shuura Head spinning from the blow, Shuura attempted to gather up the belongings that got knocked out of her hand when the strange woman ran into her. In the confusion, she accidentally mistook the bottle the woman dropped for her perfume bottle and stuffed it carelessly into her bookbag, not noticing that her actual perfume bottle was actually lying a few feet away from the woman. Staggering to her feet, Shuura grabbed her things and ran off. Mood: So. Tired. Music: I'm too tired to play any music, goddammit.

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: October 22, 2005 15 : 27 (24 hour time)Subject: Boredom becomes a tangible thing Entry:It's been 4 days since Shuura's disastrous encounter with the strange hyperactive woman who cost her her job. Now, happily unemployed--or, as Shuura preferred to put it, "in between jobs"--she was cheerfully allowing her brain cells to rot in unproductivity while she dozed off in her favorite spot---a small, neglected cemetary south of Durem city.
No one ever came here, so her naps were never disturbed and she was free to sleep the day away.
Snoozing contentedly, she rearranged her bag so that it rested more comfortably under her head, failing to notice that as she pushed the contents around to form a good pillow-sized lump, a roundish bottle managed to escape from the pouch and rolled away soundlessly to hide within the leaves of a nearby rose plant.
Totally forgetting that she had class in one hour and that she had a quiz in that very next class, Shuura slept, oblivious. Mood: Sleepy Music: On Fire - Switchfoot

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: October 31, 2005 17 : 27 (24 hour time)Subject: In Which Shuura Becomes Extremely Perplexed Entry:9 days, 5 quizzes and 3 midterms later, Shuura was thoroughly tired and thoroughly sick of school, of lined paper, of #2 pencils, and was back at her old hiding place in the cemetary.
"I need to get a job," she grumbled to herself as she pushed open the rusty gates that led to the graveyard. Fighting back a yawn, she was just about to settle in front of her usual napping spot when something shiny caught her eye.
"What the...." Shuura rubbed her eyes vigorously. Was Durem's air pollution finally causing her to see things? Blinking, she stared at the spot again. Nope, there was definitely a pulsing, reddish glow coming from the wild rosebush that grew behind the headstone she usually leaned on while taking a nap.
Although not the superstitious sort, Shuura was nonetheless slightly apprehensive about strange, glowing things found in run down, neglected cemetaries. Using one booted foot, she gently prodded aside leaves and thorny vines and revealed....
"Damn, is that my perfume bottle?"
She bent over to take a closer look. Nope, it looked a lot like her perfume, but it was different. This particular round glass bottle was topped by a strange metal encasement with a ring and a length of cord attached to it, making it look like some kind of lightbulb-shaped lantern; wedged between the metal part and the glass bottle was a small triangle of reddish cloth. And of course, her perfume most certainly didn't emanate bright red light--she wanted to smell nice, for goodness' sake, not glow in the dark.
Curiousity finally overcoming caution, she picked the bottle up and examined it. What she mistook at first for a neon red lightbulb was actually some kind of liquid-like, swirly...gaseous....thing. That glowed.
In short, Shuura had no clue what the hell it was.
Turning the bottle over, she saw some inscriptions on the bottom of the glass. Squinting hard at the small letters, she read:
(c) Kyoupiruchi, Lab 305
"Kyoupooch-something? Lab305?" Shuura frowned. None of these weird names rung a bell, and she was still feeling particularly dour about labs at the moment. Leaning on the headstone, she twirled the bottle around carelessly, wondering what she should do.
"I bet you wouldn't know either, huh?" She said conversationally to the headstone. She squinted, reading the inscription on the tombstone upside down. "Sir.....Vyncente Van Helson...." She pondered this name for a bit.
"Hn. Van Helson. Wonder if you were related to the Von Helson sisters.....well, probably not, anyone related to people that rich wouldn't be buried in a rundown out-of-the-way place like this. Unless you did something that pissed them off, anyway." She squinted at the headstone again. "So you died in 1986, Mr. Van poo-poo? Huh.... Too bad. You missed out. That was the year I was born." She paused. "You must hate it, huh? Rotting away in the middle of nowhere and some random girl comes by and sleeps over your grave and talks like a madwoman and you can't get her to shut up." She glanced at the glowing bottle. The mystery wasn't going to solve itself just sitting there, she supposed, so she might as well take it back home and see what she could find out about it by digging through the internet.
--------------
Back in front of her computer, Shuura typed in the info she found on the bottom of the bottle into a search engine. "Kyoupoo....Kyoublargh-.....ah, curse names longer than two syllables...." She finally typed the entirety of the dratted name and hit enter. The search engine turned up a surprisingly few number of results. "Hmm...Yaoi Gallery?...nope, don't think that's it...Artificial Retreat? Huh.........Project [x]? Lab 305? K...I think this is it."
Clicking on the website url, she found devastatingly little information other than a picture of a dome-shaped building and a lot of purple font. She did, however, manage to dig up an address. Gambino sea port? That was devastatingly far, especially for a poor and extremely lazy college student whose most reliable method of transportation consisted of a borrowed and much-abused skateboard.
Guess she wasn't going to visit Gambino Island anytime soon.
There was something about the glowing red bottle that disturbed her, though. She wanted to know more about it. Perhaps there was a phone number on the website that she could call.......nah, she hated making phone calls. Still, it wouldn't hurt to try, she supposed. She browsed around the site, found and jotted down the lab's phone number, stuffed the slip of paper in her skirt pocket, and promptly forgot about it.

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: November 2nd, 2006 20:41 (24 hour time)Subject: Dark Have Been My Dreams of Late... Entry: Shuura had been having odd dreams lately.
No, not the ones where she would be slaying zombies with smelly sneakers, hairbrushes, and plastic cafeteria forks. Those were considered normal.
Her dreams lately have been of a stranger caliber....of light--and shadow. Of warmth...and coldness. Of green in the shade...of hiding underground. Being unable to move...but not feeling unnatural at the same time.
She dreamt of growth..............slow, sure and steady. Of the earth, of shadows dancing, of sunlight filtering through green canopies. She dreamt she had tendrils, curling softly and sinuously across cold stone, reaching up to the heavens while being sprawled on the earth. She dreamt of sunlight that had coldness, shadow that had warmth, and ever always the scent of the earth, and the smell of roses.
Tossing and turning, Shuura slept on, oblivious to the world around her, and dreamed.
On the bedside table next to the alarm clock, the bottle of rose-colored gas glowed mysteriously. Mood: Disturbed Music: Gekkou - Onizuka Chihiro

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: December 18 , 2005 21 : 19 (24 hour time)Subject: All I Want For Christmas ~ Entry:It was 7 days before Christmas, and the usually grouchy Shuura was feeling particularly cheery. The novelty of the weird glowing bottle had long since ceased, and Shuura had figured out the perfect use for it as a Christmas ornament for her otherwise unadorned tree.
Nevermind that her tree was barely over a foot tall, or that the bottle was nearly a third of the tree's size and caused it to sag heavily to one side. What mattered was that it was nearly Christmas, and Christmas meant presents and gaudy ribbons and shiny wrapping paper and hot chocolate and eggnog and ridiculously large meals.
And wishlists!! It was about time she started on her own wishlist after doing so much Christmas shopping for others. Digging around her pockets for a pen, Shuura fished out a crumpled peice of paper instead.
"Huh?" She frowned. "What's this?"
It seemed to be a slip of paper with a phone number on it. Shuura read it off. She didn't recognize the number. "Dr. Kyou@#!@^, Lab three-effing-oh-five..... huh....oh yeah. I was supposed to call this number to find out about the lightbulb." She didn't mind having something to hang on her puny tree, but she supposed that whatever person made the thing might want it back. Since she was feeling partiularly generous at the moment anyway, she supposed she'd give them a call.
Picking up the phone, she dialed the number. Mood: Christmas Cheer Music: All I Want For Christmas - Oliva Olsen

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: December 23 , 2005 22 : 29 (24 hour time)Subject: A Trek to the LabEntry:ChloeStar Chloe was a bit more distracted from her work than usual today. She hadn't wanted to just leave the newly formed Frei at her home while she was here in the Lab at work, so she had brought Roux with her. Besides, what better place for him to be, right?
She glanced up at the clock once before back to the Ice Raevan, who was currently floating near a window, arms crossed over his chest, looking a faintly cross, his eyes still wide and slightly blank. He was so new still, she'd forgotten that it took a while for a Frei's personality to really stick and shine through.
Making sure Roux was not into trouble or lowering the temperature of the room via his powers, she went back to shuffling through papers. There was an apointment today, Ms. Shuura was coming to drop off her soul bottle. Shuura It was 2 days before Christmas day, and Gambino Sea Port was witnessing a strange sight.
Stomping through the wind and snow seemed to be a very disgruntled girl dragging a deformed miniature Christmas tree with a large glowing blob attached to it. A closer look revealed that the glowing blob was actually some kind of spherical bottle with shining stuff inside. Appearantly, Shuura had tied the bottle too tightly to the tree, and as a result, she couldn't get it off again and now had to drag the entire tree with her.
At least the lab was this huge building that even a directionally-challenged idiot like her couldn't miss. Trudging up to the lab entrance, Shuura entered the place and looked around for the woman she spoke to on the phone. ChloeStar Two sets of eyes turned to blink quizzically toward the woman and her tree as she trudged into the building. Chloe recognized her and came out from behind the receptionist desk. "Ah.. hello, Ms. Shuura, are you here to drop off your bottle?"
She looked curiously toward the bottle attatched to the tree.
Roux glared over toward the both of them silently, looking vaugly offended that Shuura was bringing a tree into the building before going back to staring moodily out the window at the snow. Shuura Shuura recognized the voice. "Oh, so you're Ms. Chloe---?" she trailed off as she caught sight of a....floating.....person in the room.
"Whut. Is that?" It was winged, pale, pretty, and gorgeously aloof. And it also lacked a waist and everything beneath it. In short, Shuura had no idea what it was supposed to be. Ostentatiously fancy Christmas ornament? Somehow, she doubted it.
And was it just her, or was it just as cold inside as it was outside?! ChloeStar Chloe turned to look at Roux, a fond smile playing over her lips. "Ah... that's my Raevan, Roux." She pronounced it like 'Roo'. She placed her hands comfortably in her labcoat pockets as she stood beside the other woman, showing no signs of nervousness, perhaps because she had something she loved so much to focus on? "His Fel Essence was that of Eternal Ice, his soul was a Roc."
She turned, back to Shuura, inspecting the bottle. "It's... how did you manage.." She seemed a bit baffled how it was so securly attatched to the tree. Shuura Shuura blinked, impressed. "Roux? Wow. Cool name." She didn't really understand the other things the woman was talking about about fall essences and birds and whatnot....sounded like a fashion line or something to her. Maybe the floating half-boy was a model. Heck, he was certainly pretty enough to be one.
"Eh...oh yeah. I'm Shuura. Family name's Yamizuki, but it's too much of a mouthful so no one really uses it. And this....." she threw a disgusted glance at her pitiful tree, "Well, I guess I kind of got carried away with metal wire and knots.....but....eh, yeah. I found this bottle near the Durem cemetary a while earlier and discovered that it belonged to this lab, so I decided to bring it here...hope you guys can still use it like this."
She proffered the whole shebang to the lady in the white labcoat, tree, bottle, mess of wires and all, all the while glancing curiously at Roux. ChloeStar Chloe took the tree awkwardly, standing still with both arms wrapped around it, her face half covered by the branches. "I... M... Ms. Yamizuki.." She was flustered once more, fumbling a bit with Shuura's last name. "The bottle.. you mean you weren't given this by Dr. Kyou or I?" She blinked in surprise, that was unexpected... but she was sure Dr. Kyou would still take it, maybe even let Shuura keep the Raevan that formed.
Roux, by now, had realized he was being stared at and turned to frown at Shuura silently, matching her eye for eye and refusing to blink. He seemed to hover just a bit taller, wings giving a flap of irritation.
"Ms. Yamizuki.. since you've found the bottle and returned it to us, I'm sure Dr. Kyou will allow you to take care of the Raevan that forms." She began to awkwardly drag the tree over the floor toward the front reception desk, intent on getting some sort of tool to detatch the bottle from the tree. Shuura Shuura couldn't help but smirk and stare back at the icy boy. "I don't know if you understand me, but the last thing you want to do is get into a staring contest with an Asian! We can blink and you can't even tell!"
She whipped around at Chloe's question. "Oh, don't bother with my last name, just call me Shuura, please. And nope, I found the bottle in a dead rose plant in a graveyard. But......."
Something was nagging at the back of her mind. A clue she'd overlooked.
"...Does Dr. Kyou happen to be loud, female, and bouncy?" she asked.
"See, I used to work as a lab assistant too at my univeristy, but one day this weird hyperactive lady wearing a white lab coat ran into me and we both spilled all our stuff. I found this bottle not too long after that....so... I might have accidentally got it from her. And I think she might have my perfume bottle." Shuura frowned. She really wanted her perfume back. It was a trifle expensive. ChloeStar Roux simply refused to blink. He understand her words to a degree, but then, you didn't get into a staring contest with a bird-of-prey. They just didn't blink.
Chloe tilted her head to the side as she found a pair of scissors and very carefully began to try to cut the wire, it looked thin enough to be possible, one hand holding the bottle gingerly. "Dr. Kyou is male." She paused and looked up, recalling someone once.
"Dr. Silveh, maybe. Dr. Kyou's lab is actually a part of her lab, .[x], but.. I've never... met... her." She continued work on the wire, finally managing to get it to loosen enough to gently slide the bottle off of the tip of the tree, giving a small shiver. She looked up at Roux, frowning slightly, she hoped he wasn't using his powers again. She burried her face deeper into her scarf and help up the bottle to let Shuura see. "Either way, this bottle is yours now. Did you happen to find a small vial with something inside of it as well? We need both components to make a Raevan. Essence and soul." Shuura Bird-boy's feathers looked a bit ruffled. Shuura supposed it was because she had been staring so rudely. Well, hey. The thing was gorgeous. Can't help it if people wanted to get more than an eyeful. She offered an apologetic shrug to Roux and turned to Chloe.
"I'm not sure...." Shuura narrowed her already-narrow eyes in thought.
"Lemme see if I accidentally took that as well." She proceeded to dump all the contents of her bag out on the floor. Pens, scraps of paper, makeup, a half-empty packet of raisins, paper clips, a cell phone, Christmas greeting cards from last year, a tattered wallet, a rusty old ring, an earring with no back, and what looked like a tube of black ink fell out.
"Heyy. What's this?" She picked up the tubey thing and shook it. The contents didn't really jiggle in tune to her shaking. Odd. She handed the tube to Chloe for her inspection. "Is that it?" ChloeStar Roux gave a small smirk to himself as Shuura turned away. He had won, she'd looked away first. He turned back to stare out the window once more.
"Oh! B-Be careful!" She gasped as she saw the vial fall out and land on the floor. It seemed unharmed though and when Shuura held it out she nodded, taking the vial. She looked down the bridge of her nose, over the tops of her glasses at the vial, admiring it for a moment. She had no clue what essence it could be but it was definatly interesting.
"Well... I'll be sure to label these and give them to Dr. Kyou as soon as I can and he can start the process of creating your Raevan. I'll give you a call, or perhaps even Dr. Kyou himself will, when your Raevan is finished and emerges." She set the two items down lightly on the reception desk. "It'll be nice seeing another Raevan, won't it Roux?"
He looked over his shoulder once, eyebrows furrowed together lightly in an expression of distaste before turning back to the window. Chloe gave a shy, apologetic smile to Shuura. Quote: Shuura was laughing on the inside. Despite the (quite literally) cool exterior, Roux seemed to her to be like a disgruntled hen who'd just discovered that the egg she'd been sitting on hatched out a goose. Kind of cute, in a way.
"Sounds complicated....good luck, and thanks for all this information. It still sounds kind of confusing, but fun." Grinning roguishly, she hastily swept her things back in her bag--not noticing that the packet of half-eaten raisins was still on the floor, and glanced at the clock on her cell phone. "And crap, I have a class starting in about 3 hours and it takes 3.5 hours to get back. Gotta run!!"
She stepped back out into the wind and snow. At least she didn't have to drag the tree all the way back now! Mood: I said BRRR! It's cold in here Music: One Night in Beijing - Xin Yue Tuan

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: Feburary 28 , 2006 13 : 17 (24 hour time)Subject: The MeetingEntry:Shuura "ARuugh!" with a final hard tug, Shuura pulled her hand out from under the couch cushion in the common room and counted the amount of money she had amassed.
27 gold from under the couch, 52 gold from inside the various pockets in her clothes, totaled with 79 gold in her wallet...yes! She finally had enough for a train ticket to Gambino Sea Port. She just got a call from Lab 315 or whatevers saying that she needed to go there ASAP to pick something up, that her watchamacallit was ready. What did they say last time again when she went there to return the glowing ball?
...oh yeah. That it was part of some experiment, blah blah blah, pretty bird-boy Roux was one of them etc etc etc, some irresponsible person lost theirs so now it was hers to take care of blah....blah...blah........her thoughts trailed off as the train slowed to a stop in front of the sea port. She got off. Wow, that was fast.
She walked up to the lab entrance, a gust of chilly air from the air conditioning blasted her as she opened the door. She stepped inside and looked around, not really sure what to expect. "Hello?" Kyoupiruchi "Yes?" a replied sounded out almost immediately from behind a white couch that blended perfectly into the surroundings. Kyou hastily stood up and straighten his black shirt as he looked up at the newcomer. Good thing the girl entered a few seconds later and saved Kyou from humiliation, he was moving the couch into his lab and dropped the foot of the couch onto his toe. He was crouching down in agony when the girl entered. "May I help you?" Kyou said as he wiped a tear at the corner of his eyes. Shuura Shuura blinked in surprise as a person appeared virtually out of nowhere...then blinked again as she realized that a couch was there. Talk about camouflage... she muttered to herself.
"Uh, hi." She said cautiously. There was something...odd...about this person. Granted, he seemed fine enough on first glance and admittedly rather good-looking in a way that was kind of annoying, but she couldn't help shake the feeling that, like the ball of shining...stuff she had found some months ago, there was something not quite normal about this guy. What was he doing behind the couch, anyway?
"I'm Shuura. I got a call from this place earlier telling me to come here," she said, wistfully thinking about her wallet that was now considerably lighter after the train ticket, "...they said it was important." Kyoupiruchi "Call from here?" Kyou thought, he don't recall making any calls out this morning. He went out to get breakfast, a nd it was some very delicious chinese noodles too! And then set work to cleaning his lab, after that he asked Lazarus to do something... what was it? Kyou racked his brains trying to recall, he had very bad memory with these daily rackets. It took him a whole 20 seconds to remember what was it. "OH!!" He clapped his hands together gleefully, "You're Miss Shuura right? I think I asked Lazarus to call you earlier to pick up something!! Please please, come this way!" Giving her a very apologetic smile for making her wait so long, Kyou showed her the way to the left wing of the building. As they passed the sliding doors Kyou asked, "You remember the bottle you gave to Chloe a while ago? I heard you dragged an entire christmas tree with you back then." Shuura Shuura winced at the memory. "Miniature...Christmas tree. Miniature," she muttered. If it was a full-sized tree, she wouldn't have bothered returning the bottle to the lab no matter how important it was...it just wasn't worth the work.
"Lazarus?" What a queer name. Whoever it was, he was rather grumpy on the phone, and Shuura was willing to bet he wouldn't be much nicer in person. "I don't mind the wait, I actually kind of forgot about it for a while, to be honest." As she followed him she noticed the details that she hadn't seen before--the long, pointed horns, the pointed ears, the demonic tail..... Whoa, cool, she thought distractedly. "So you're Dr. uh......" She tried to squint at his nametag, failed to make out the name, and decided to go with "So you're Dr. K, huh?" Kyoupiruchi "I haven't introduce myself? How impolite of me!!" Kyou gasped. He immediately stopped in his tracks and bow down a little in a gentleman manner. "My name is Kyou! The owner of this section of the facility!" When he finished introducing himself, he stood up straight again and started pacing towards a pair of lab doors. These set of doors were closed, and they looked pretty heavy. "And now I'm going to show you something amazing, something that belongs to you." With that, Kyou placed his hand on a scanning device on the side of the door and spoke the words 'open' curtly. The heavy doors slid open and revealed a comfortable living room inside, with Lazarus floating in front of the television watching some action movie. Shuura Shuura bowed back politely when the doctor introduced himself.
Stepping in cautiously when then heavy-set doors opened, she blinked and gawked at the scene before her. She was amazed..... "It's....it's..." she pointed.
"It's the TRANSPORTER!! I love that movie!!" She cheered. "I love it when they put Asian actors in! Shu Qi is damned hot even though the white guy isn't!" she ran forward to the TV before belatedly realizing someone else was watching it. "Oh. Didn't see you there." she blinked at him and couldn't quite figure out how he was sitting there, because, well....he didn't exactly have a butt to sit on. Is this what the doctor meant by something amazing? she wondered. On second glance though, she saw that despite lacking a waist the being was extremely handsome in a grouchy-looking way and....and she was distracted as Frank Martin gunned down some bad guys with a couple of AK-47's on the TV screen. Kyoupiruchi "Hey, get away from the screen! You're blocking me!!" Lazarus grumbled annoyingly at the female stranger. Must be here to pick her up, he thought, disgruntled. Lazarus always had a weak spot... no, more likely being shy among females, especially towards female Raevans it seems. But he tries to not show it too openly in case anyone look lowly upon him, to protect his pride. Taking up the TV remote control, he switched channels and a scene of someone being pulled into a blood pool by numerous creepy hands appeared on the TV screen, clearly some B rated horror show. Kyou stood blinking at Shuura, apparently not expecting this reaction from her, at least not from the action movie showing on TV just now. "Erm, this way please Miss Shuura." He walked over towards the other door on the far side of the room, with a light click he opened it and look back at Shuura as a gesture for her to get in. Shuura Shuura scowled. One, because she recognized the voice as belonging to the grouchy guy on the phone who called her here in the first place, and two, because this thing, no matter how pretty-looking, obviously had no taste in TV. "You're missing the best part," she complained, then turned to follow the doctor, who was making shooing motions at her to get in some other room.
She approached the door a little hesitantly and nodded her thanks at him. It wasn't everyday that demonic-looking scientists opened doors for you, y'know. Better to be polite than dead. As she stepped through the doorway, she wondered what the doctor had in store for her. Kyoupiruchi Lazarus just scowled at the female as she went through the door into the main lab. Girls! BAH!!"The bottle with the swirling thing you gave us last christmas actually contained a soul." Kyou spoke as he closed the door behind them as they entered into the a short walkway. "It's the first time I see such a humble yet pretty soul though, and it came out rather interesting!" He proceeded through an archway and into the oblong room beyond, which is filled with various science equipment; microscopes, vials of different shapes and sizes. There were some items that doesn't seem to fit into the picture though, like a cauldron and a strange circle drawn on the floor in a far corner of the room. But the 3 large glass water tanks stood out the most in the room. Nestled rather close to each other, the tanks were twice as tall as Kyou and almost reaching to the ceiling. There are something strange floating inside the liqiud, one could almost make out a rough form of a half a human inside. There was also something else inside the room, a floating figure similar to Lazarus, but instead this is a female one with firey red hair. Kyou smiled and gave a pat to Shuura's back, urging her to go forwards towards the floating figure. Shuura Shuura stumbled forward a couple of steps at the doctor's touch. She didn't even see the Frei at first, she was standing--er, floating?--in the shadows-- This thing---what--? What the hell. " Uhh...." She halted, unsure of whether the floating being had noticed them or not. Light. Sound. Figures.
The rosy-haired Frei turned at the sound the of the two entering the room. One of them she recognized--it was the face that she had seen behind glass so many times. The other also had long dark hair like the doctor, but was different. Who...?" Whoa. Boobs." --was the first thing that popped out of Shuura's mouth as soon as it--she--the thing--turned around. Indeed, it was hard to look anywhere else for the moment. " Oh my gawd. They put me in charge of....you?!" she took a few more steps forward until she was standing right in front of the vision of black and red. Perhaps it was because she had been bombarded with so many unbelievable curiousities by now, from the first meeting with Chloe and Roux to the strange devilish scientist to the grouchy thing watching really bad TV outside...she just stopped reacting like a normal person. When one has seen too much amazing things at once, the amazing becomes reduced to something normal. Give this same scenario to her a few months earlier, though, and she would've been gawking and screeching disbelief for the entire Gambino island to hear. Still, Shuura had never seen something that could look so beautiful and so deadly at the same time. The yellow-black eyes were kind of disturbing. She caught a whiff of the faint scent of roses and noticed the flower in the Frei's hair, and realized that the soul the doctor spoke of must have been from the dead rose where she found the bottle that fateful day. Eyeing the being in front of her uncertainly, she asked, " What's your name?" "........" The floating figure stared back at her stonily, unresponsive. Name.....for some reason, when she heard this sound, she felt a kind of emptiness. What is a name...? " Errr....." She had expected it to be as verbose as Lazarus out there, but appearantly not. " Eh...Doc?" She turned to the scientist standing at the doorway. " Does she have a name?" Kyoupiruchi "Not unless you give her one!" Kyou gave Shuura an encouraging smile. He likes to see owner's responses when they see their Raevans for the first time. It's not the warm 'family feel' that makes him happy, Kyou is not such a sincere person. But rather it's more of a curiosity as to what their responses are, and also the Raevan's response to their fateful 'guardians'. So far, every Raevan seem to have an identical response - confusion. It goes for Lazarus as well of course, although he was more explosive than all the others... Shuura Oh, great. The name's up to me? Shuura groaned inwardly. Okay, Shuu. Call it like you see it, I suppose. "Bewbs" would be most straightforward, I guess, but that's probably not a good idea. Huh. "Rose" is kinda too fear-the-obvious. What else, what else....hur...A name. A name. Something short. Something easy. Something you can remember. Something--" --Vyn." Shuura decided impetuously. " Alright, no objections?" "..........." The Frei remained obstinately silent." Well, Vyn it is." Shuura shrugged carelessly. '' Sup Vyn. I'm still not quite sure exactly how, but for the moment, I'm stuck with you, you're stuck with me, so I'm Shuu, nice to meetchu, guess we'll have to be putting up with each other." She stuck out a hand. Vyn eyed the extended appendage confusedly, unsure what it was for. This being in front of her.........produced so much sound. Vyn wasn't quite used to it. She floated a little closer, carefully avoiding the extended arm, so she could stare at it better. What the hell are we doing here. Shuura's eyebrow quirked, in irritation or plain confuzzlement, no one knew. Appearantly Vyn must be....very new? And obviously didn't know what a handshake was for. Vyn acted like Shuura's baby cousin (who Shuura took pains to avoid, as she didn't like kids), almost. Except Vyn was a lot bigger. And floaty-er. And also kind of creepy. Good thing Shuura liked creepy things. Raising her hand slightly to touch the rose adorning Vyn's hair, Shuura exhaled a long breath she hadn't realized she had been holding in. " Vyn. My name is Shuura." She stroked the rose petals ever so slightly, then dropped her hand back to her side. Hopefully Vyn had understood that. If not, well, guess it really couldn't be helped at the moment. " So these are...Raevans." She remembered the name Chloe had called them before. " So uh." She turned to the Doc once more. Why do I have to take care of this again? She thought, although in the back of her mind she was already imagining a corner in her dorm where Vyn would fit in perfectly with her black-and-red room decor. It would be kind of an interesting pet/room decoration, I suppose...or like an extended science project or something, she thought, not realizing that was exactly what Vyn was. " Is there anything I should know about them?" Kyoupiruchi "Well I guess you'll need to know how to take care of them I guess." Kyou walked up and stood beside Vyn as he spoke, the placid mannered Raevan tilted her head a little to look at him. "She's a shadow elemented Raevan, that means she don't need to be fed like a normal child. Just as long as there are shadows around her, she could draw energy from the shadows. That is how they 'feed'." "They are also required to come back to do a check-up with Dr.Tsu occasionally, maybe once in every 2 to 3 months. And if anything strange happens, please please remember to take her back here if you don't know what to do." Kyou spoke, the thoughts of special abilities and strange growths raced across his mind. Of course he do not wish for anything unfortunate to happen to the Raevans, but the Raevan's growth is still a mystery to him. Even Lazarus, the first Raevan he created still haven't grown yet. Although he hope he will soon, if only he knew how to trigger his growth... Shuura Shuura could feel a headache growing in proportional to the amount of information she was being fed. If this was what having a kid was going to be like, then Shuura was quite certain she would never have any kids. " This isn't gonna be easy, is it..." she muttered darkly to herself. " So Miss Chloe is just the receptionist?" She asked. " If I have questions and you or this Tsu guy isn't around, would she be the ideal next choice to go to for help?" Since she's in charge of a Raeven too, as well... Roux, wasn't it? Shuura attempted to recall the image of Roux, but in truth it had been a long time since she last saw him and Chloe. She vaguely remembered him having cool colors matched with an icy desposition, and wings, but all that conjured up in her brain was an image of an icy chicken. Ah well.Vyn silently observed the exchange between the two, choosing to lean slightly closer towards the doctor, who was more familiar to her. Kyoupiruchi "I believe you could call the lab for check-up appointments with Dr.Tsu." Kyou placed a hand into his back pants pocket and extracted a name card. "This is my name card, there's a lab reception desk number on it, just call and make an appointment when you need the check-up. If there are emergencies though, yes you could look for Chloe for help if she's around. Don't worry, I'm in the lab most of the time as well, or you could ring up Lazarus if you need to find me, usually he don't have much to do..." Kyou paused at that sentence, can he rely on Lazzie? Well, it is time for him to know how to take care of himself and help around the lab. Maybe he could grow this way... Kyou thought. "If you don't have anymore questions for now, do you want me to escort you to the door?" Kyou said politely. Shuura Shuura accepted the card and stared at it blankly. She still had no idea how to pronounce the guy's dratted name. Huh? Call Lazarus for help? She doubted it, but maybe she'll call him up to give him suggestions for good movies sometime, he could use it. " Thanks for this Doc," She said, waving the namecard before stuffing it into her skirt pocket. " I think I'll be able to find my way out though. I'll be sure to drop by often if I run into trouble." Or as often as my pitiful income allows, anyway. He said check-ups every 2.5 months, but once a year isn't all that much different, is it? She grinned wryly before turning back to look at Vyn. " Errr...." she wasn't sure how much the newborn Frei understood. " C'mon, Vyn?" she waved the floaty Shadow-Raeven over. Vyn, who had been idly following their conversation and not understanding most of it, was surprised when they finally stopped exchanging sounds and the new figure made a motion to her as if wanting her to follow. She glanced between the doctor and the girl, confused. Go......out?
What was beyond that door? She glanced back at the doctor, hesitant. At last, curiousity won over caution, and with one last glance back at the scientist and the glass tanks that had been the only world she had known for her brief existence thus far, she followed the black-haired girl out the door. Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: March 1st, 2006 1:18 (24 hour time)Subject: The Pigsty. Entry:It was already dark outside when Shuura finally left the lab, Vyn trailing behind her like an eerie shadow. It was tough, with Vyn not understanding the need to move fast, but by calling the train station with a bomb threat using a payphone outside the lab, Shuura was able to reach the station just in time. The investigators had just pulled out, declaring the threat a fake and that it was safe for the last train to depart, when Shuura, Vyn in tow, finally reached the platform.
If nothing else, Shuura knew how to stall for time, being the incorrigible--or, as she liked to put it, "incredibly gifted"--procrastinator that she was.
There was probably only three people total on the entire train, not counting Vyn and Shuura. As such, Shuura didn't have to deal with any awkward questions regarding Vyn, questions she probably wouldn't have been able to answer, anyway. The three-hour train ride back to Durem passed in a wink of an eye--quite literally, for she fell asleep and the train had reached its destination by the time she woke up--and in a few minutes they were climbing up the stairs to her dorm. Rather, Shuura was climbing the stairs and bemoaning the fact that there was no elevator, while Vyn floated unconcernedly. Although Shuura lived only on the second floor, that flight of stairs was just one too many!
"Well, Vyn, I don't exactly understand why, but I guess you'll be living with me for the time being," she drawled out. "Here we are, home sweet home," she said sarcastically while kicking open the door.
Well. While attempting to kick open the door. It opened, but just as immediately shut itself closed. After several tries Shuura finally managed to make the door budge open a few meager inches, barely enough so that she could slip inside and remove all the shoes, boxes, and random junk that was piled behind the door so the door could actually open properly. The tactic worked better than locking the door, honestly.
Not that Shuura was paranoid. She was just too lazy to clean up after herself. Kicking off her shoes and wading through the piles of clothes on the floor, Shuura idly waved for Vyn to come in.
"My roommate got kicked out of the school for failing too many classes," she informed Vyn, "So...you could be my new roommate, I guess." If Shuura once had a roommate, any sign of one had been completely obliterated. Shuura's belongings were strewn all across the floor, walls, even ceiling--and the only clue suggesting that it was originally meant to be a double room was that there was a bunkbed in the corner, piled with more clothes, more junk, random boxes, an eclectic mix of magazines, empty bottles of liquor, instant noodle packets, and various junk food.
Vyn didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary. Then again, Vyn hadn't been exposed to the world enough to even know what "ordinary" entailed, and as a result, had no basis for comparison.
Shuura's room was small. Not cramped, but not large, either. There was a large window right across the door, but it was covered with a dark burgundy curtain. It was dark, and thus it was to Vyn's liking.
Kicking aside some overdue zombie movies and her stack of vampire novels, Shuura climbed up to the top bunk bed and yawned widely. "Vyn. Get some rest. You can take the bottom bunk. I'm going to sleep," she informed her new ""roommate". When Vyn didn't respond, Shuura sighed.
"Look. What I'm doing." Without even bothering to change into more comfortable clothing, Shuura fell backwards onto the bed, sighing in content as she stretched lazily like a cat. Within moments, she was sound asleep, not even staying awake long enough to see if Vyn was settling down or not. Mood: Deadbeat Music: bei dong - Tarcy Su

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: March 3rd, 2006 10:14 (24 hour time)Subject: Cafe Jubilee - An Accidental DiscoveryEntry: Shuura goes into town to run errands. A meeting with Natsuki!
Meanwhile...
Vyn floated in the middle of the room, uncertainty clouding the Frei's delicate features. Shuura had ran out of the door several hours earlier, leaving Vyn alone in the messy living quarters.
A brightly-lit box sat on a wooden desk in a corner of the room. Vyn floated over to see why it was so bright. As she neared it she decided she didn't like how bright it was, and tried to make it darker. She'd seen Shuura "darken" the bright box before by prodding it, so Vyn prodded the bright screen several times. The box, however, still remained bright. At length she decided to turn the entire thing so that it was facing the wall. There, that was better.
What next? She had been staying in the shadows for several days and now needed to release pent-up energy. Twirling around gently in a circle to view the room entirely, Vyn noticed a tiny ray of light creeping in from the crack between the door and the wall. In fact, the door doesn't even seem to be closed properly. Pulling lightly on the door handle, Vyn was pleased to discover that the door opened immediately with no resistance.
Venturing out cautiously, she came across a common room that has another brightly-lit box, this one is bigger than the one in Shuura's room, and also chunkier. Attempting to "dim" the box with no success, Vyn turns the thing so that it's facing the wall as well. At this point, though, a girl walks into the common room, a fluffy-looking peice of white cloth wrapped around her middle section, and a smaller fluffy-cloth thing wrapped around her head. The girl took one look at Vyn and let out a blood-curdling shriek. "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The Shadow Frei knotted her eyebrows slightly at the girl. The high-pitched sounds the girl was emitting was hurting her ears. Moving out of the room to avoid the screaming person and out onto the road, Vyn paused. Which way should she go?
Seeing that there was a shadowed area along the path to the left, the curious Frei drifted a little further down the road, until she noticed that most of the passersby had stopped to stare at her. Ignoring the insistent stares, Vyn continued to follow the path, until one of the people on the road actually stepped in her way, blocking her.
"Heheheheh..." The guy who had swaggered up to Vyn was about middle-aged, and portly. Although he was wearing a crisp suit and tie, there was nothing civilized in the way he eyed the floating vision of beauty before him. "Well, I don' know what you are, exactly, but you seem like you could use some company," the man looked Vyn up and down, his sniggering mouth grinning even wider as he took in Vyn's....assets.
There was a faint smell of alcohol reeking from the man's breath, and although Vyn didn't know what it was, she disliked the smell. She warily tried to float around the man and continue down the road, but was blocked once again.
"Where're you goin' in sucha hurry, missy?"
By now Vyn could definitely sense the aura of danger exuding from the man. Her leathery wings began flapping rapidly in agitation, and her eyes narrowed in frustration. She didn't know this person and she didn't want to!
----
Shuura made a turn around the last bend that would take her back to her dorm, humming along cheerfully to the rock song blasting on her portable CD-player. The day had turned out surprisingly well despite her initial misgivings. She managed to find a sponsor for the upcoming Japanese Festival, and didn't even have to look past the first shop! Now all that crap was done and over with, there was nothing more she looked forward to other than getting back home and taking a nice long nap. Oh, and checking on Vyn and seeing if the floaty thing was still alive, of course.
Surprisingly enough, Shuura was starting to get used to Vyn being around. The Shadow Frei remained silent as the grave (punpunpunPUN), and most of the time when Shuura was at her desk doing stuff she wouldn't even remember that Vyn was there...until she turned around to realize that Vyn was floating RIGHT behind her, that is. Those times were a little annoying, if only because Vyn's eyes freaked the bejeezus out of her when she was least expecting it.
Shuura yawned tiredly. She supposed she should've brought something back for Vyn, after all she did lock the poor thing in the house for the entire day. Well, not that the thing moved much, anyway. It's not like Vyn'd go out on her own and explore or something. Besides, the door is locked, she thought to herself as she walked by some random people.
Come to think of it, one of those random people kinda looked a lot like Vyn. They even floated around and had spiral peices of who-knows-what instead of an actual bod---wait a minute. Shuura whipped around. "VYN! What the hell are you doing out here?!" she demanded, yanking her headphones off her ears and completely ignoring whoever-the-hell-it-was that was standing in front of Vyn--Whatever, he's not important anyway.
Vyn floated hurriedly over to Shuura, and to Shuura's surprise tugged at the shoulder strap of Shuura's messenger bag and refused to let go.
This, however, didn't sit well with the pudgy man at all. "Now wait just a minute," he demanded boisterously. "I was talking to this...young missy, here."
Shuura gave the obese businessman a once-over and snorted in disgust. The guy was obviously drunk. "Shut up," She said succinctly to the guy, and miraculously............he did. Shuura decided to take advantage of the situation in case the retard realized he had just been dissed and flew into a drunken rage, or tried to stalk them home or something. "C'mon Vyn, time to go back." She gave the Frei attached to her messenger bag a glare, though. "How the hell did you get out?!!"
Oh well. Shuura was too tired to care at this point.
The two returned to the dorms without any further mishap. Vyn finally released her death grip on the shoulder strap, so Shuura took off her bag and set it against the door. One of the small pins on the strap that had said "F**k 0ff!" had been slightly squished under the Frei's strong grasp and now read "F0ff!!" instead, but Shuura didn't notice it--yet. All she cared about was that they were home, and she could take her long-anticipated nap.
Glancing around at her room, Shuura sensed that something seemed slightly amiss, but she couldn't place a finger on--- "...Vyn. WHY is my computer monitor facing the wall?!" Something was nagging at the back of her mind. With a jolt she suddenly realized with dread that..... s**t. I'M LATE."VYN! VYN VYN VYN VYN VYN! We're LATE!" She yelled at roseate-haired Frei, who was basking in a shadowy corner of Shuura's modestly-sized room. "*&^%!" Shuura cursed as she wildly tossed on clothes, accessories, and makeup. "The festival started at 10 AM and it's 1:45 PM right now!! &*^@!!!"Vyn glared impassively at the frenzied girl rushing about. It seemed like they were going out again, a plan that displeased her. She enjoyed the dark confines of the room and didn't particular the thought of going out again, especially with the unpleasant memories of what happened the last time she ventured out still fresh in her mind.Giving no opportunity for Vyn to complain, Shuura grabbed her chain wallet and keys and shoved Vyn outside. She slammed the door and started dashing off towards the festival, Vyn trailing unwillingly behind. "%@#$!!" irritated at the ice cream booth. Click Matsuri ticket to visit full RP.> Vyn .......Vyn was getting thirsty. While the healing properties of Gage's horn had healed her wounds, she had never been outside for this long before and was starting to feel the strain on her energy. She wavered for a moment, her black leathery wings drooping slightly. Where was Shuura? "What is your name?" Gage asked. Vyn didn't feel like answering him, but in truth, she even didn't know if she knew how to answer him. Shuura called her something a lot, but she didn't feel like it was her. It didn't feel right, at least...not yet. Not realizing that what she was about to do was a socially malicious act, Vyn decided to simply ignore Gage's question started floating off towards Shuura's direction. Despite her own doubts as to her guardian's reliability, Shuura was, at least, something familiar compared to all the hustle and bustle Vyn had experienced today. ....... Well, that was that. The damned festival was over, and whether or not the JSA and the Student Disciplinary Committee would be satisfied with her work or not was no longer Shuura's concern.
Rolling along the gravel-pitted sidewalk on her well-worn skateboard, the raven-haired girl glanced back to check if a certain floating figure was keeping up. It had become a reflexive habit now--sometimes she caught herself glancing back even when she was out in town running errands without Vyn, and would look back without realizing why she was doing it.
The figure in question was trailing behind. A little too far behind...again. With an irritated sigh, Shuura skidded to a halt to wait for the slow Shadow Frei to catch up.
Vyn was floating along slowly, her slender fingers cupping a small water-filled baggie. Inside it was a small red goldfish. With no more crowds and booths to distract her, her attention was now completely on the creature, her yellow eyes following its every move, fascinated. This tiny thing that moved about...it was a life. One that she held in her very hands. It was this thought more than anything that had Vyn spellbound.
"Hurrry up already. Red's not gonna die if you move faster than 2 inches per hour," the irritable girl snapped. The brilliantly crimson goldfish, or Red as Shuura had so christened it--you gotta name for it? No? Fine, his name'll be Red. Now take it and let's go already.-- bobbed along happily in he little plastic prison, perfectly unaware that he was soon to be housed in a room that had never kept a pet alive for longer than two weeks.
Vyn was surprisingly delicate in handling the goldfish, which in turn surprised Shuura. She didn't expect that Vyn would be so attentive to it. Maybe she should give Vyn another pet. A plant, maybe--she doubted the fish was going to last long.
Exhaling deeply in annoyance, she kicked at a stray pebble and watched it bounce a few times on the cement pavement before coming to a stop in front of a rusty set of familiar-looking gates. She paused, considering.
"Hurry up, Vyn." Shuura said again, although her tone was a bit different this time. When Vyn finally caught up, Shuura grabbed the fish from the Frei, hoping that doing so would make the slow Raevan move more quickly, and turned to the gates. "...In here. I want to show you something."
With a disrespectful kick, the rusty gates creaked open.

Welcome, Deadjournal user: Shuura | Logout? Date: June 2st, 2006 17:58 (24 hour time)Subject: Origins Entry:Vyn looked about the odd place. Stones ranging from off-white to gray were erected all over the place, and the faint smell of roses still lingered in the air. It felt as if it was going to rain. Why did she feel this way? She felt an odd familiarity with this place, despite the fact that she had never been here before. Winding her way about the stone tablands, she drifted slowly over to her dark-haired guardian, who was looking thoughtfully at a well-worn slab of dark gray stone.
It was ironic that they were here, actually. It had been a long time since Shuura had returned to her favorite hiding place, though, and when she realized they had just passed by the graveyard on their way home from the matsuri, she couldn't resist.
"See this guy, Vyn?" she jerked her chin towards the particularly shabby gravestone. "Vyncente Van Helson. You were named after him." A pause.
"I think you were born here, actually." A faint whisper of leaves still curled around the edges of the long-deceased Vyncente's tombstone, leading to the now-dead rose plant that grew behind in its shade. "See that? That used to be a wild rosebush. Was the only thing that grew here. Why it ended up behind this particular grave, I dunno. Maybe 'cause this guy never got any flowers."
Vyn's wings had come nearly to a standstill--the leathery appendages were barely flapping. Her eyes were slightly narrowed, but it was hard for Shuura to tell what the Frei was thinking---she could be distressed, intrigued or even just plain bored. Drifting closer to ground level, the quiet Raeven leaned over to inspect the--no, to Shuura's mild surprise, not the dead plant, but rather the small translucent object that had been littered beside it. The Frei picked it up and looked at Shuura, a question in her yellow-black eyes.
A frown creased Shuura's brow. "That's a plastic water bottle." Probably one that she threw here last time--hey, it wasn't her fault that there weren't any recycling cans in the cemetary. Shrugging, Shuura reached into her bag and drew out an identical one. Unscrewing the plastic cap, she took a sip. When there wasn't a lot of water left, she tilted the bottle over, letting the remaining liquid drip down onto the rose plant. Not that it did the plant much good...it had long since withered since last October. It was merely habit on Shuura's part...
~*~ --// It was the first time that Shuura discovered the place. Rundown, neglected, out-of-the-way, she had wandered in bored and lost, and ended up taking a nap against one of the headstones in the forlorn cemetary. This accidental venture led to the discovery that it was always delightfully cool and quiet there, even during the hottest times of the day. Her visits to the graveyard whenever she was bored or contemplative increasingly grew more frequent, until one day she discovered a small green tendril creeping up the stone plaque she rested on.
"...Wonder what kind of plant this is," Shuura thought idly to herself. The tendril looked a bit withered, though. Not that Shuura really cared that much, but she happened to have a bottle of water with a few mouthfuls left, so she took a sip and then carelessly dumped the rest on the sprout of green that was struggling so hard to live.
The next time she dropped by, the plant seemed to have gotten a bit bigger.
Shrugging, Shuura took a nap as usual. When she woke up, she dumped the contents of her waterbottle out on the plant again, if only to make her bag a little lighter. About a week later she returned again, tired and bored, and repeated the previous procedure.
Time passed, and by the beginning of autumn, the plant had grown quite big, and had flowered.
...It turned out to be a rose plant. //--
~*~
...A yawn shook her out of her thoughts. Despite being late to the Matsuri and barely doing a full hour's worth of actual work, Shuura felt incredibly tired, and home was still another ten, fifteen minute's walk away....
Although she probably shouldn't have, Shuura settled down in front of Vyncente's headstone, putting Red's baggie on her lap. Just a short nap, she thought to herself. Just a short, quick.................................
Vyn hovered delicately over her sleeping girl, peering at Shuura's closed eyelids. Satisfied that she was actually sound alseep, the Shadow Frei turned to inspect the headstone that her narcoleptic guardian was leaning against. A hand tipped with black-lacquered nails reached up to graze the worn stone, the rough surface somehow familiar under her fingertips. The rosy-haired Raeven dragged her fingers lightly across the stone tablet, tracing the carved letters etched into its surface. She couldn't read them, but she liked the way they curved, and she remembered what Shuura had said about them.
A smile grew on the Shadow Frei's rosy lips. Leaning over, she whispered softly against weathered stone and withered leaf. "...Vyn."
"My name is.......Vyn."
