(Compare Read Dragon to Capote, for example.) I'm not a big Penguin fan, but I'm willing to give it benefit of the doubt, given how impressive the last two were. Fully agreed, there. I haven't seen Capote yet, but it's on my Amazon Wish List. (The bloody thing's only a penny used, so I don't know why I haven't ordered it yet... Out of curiosity, how does it compare to Infamous, if you've seen it?) Ditto on not being a huge Penguin fan, but, I also agree that after the first two-- particularly the reinvention of the Joker--they definitely deserve a little faith. I did love his performance in Red Dragon. Which swings us toward one of my favourite villains of all time: Lecter! twisted There are few things I like better than a villain who truly gives good brain. Alas, I missed Infamous. I do love Lechter. A shame Hannibal Rising was such a botch job. *nods* True, that one could've been done better. I wasn't altogether pleased with Hannibal, either, as a movie... It was so frustrating that they changed the ending in the hopes of luring Foster back into the role, then didn't change it back even though she refused! Further proof that the book is almost always better. stare Silly studios. Don't get me started on the riuined ending on I Am Legend. Now, that's one I keep meaning to read but haven't gotten to, yet, though I do know enough about the story to have an idea of what you're talking about. 3nodding On the subject of screwing up the endings, I'm a little worried for the Watchmen... Do you think they had the guts to stick with it? Rumor has it the studio made them lighten the ending, but I don't know how much.

I like a villain that makes the reader or viewer question their own beliefs and stances. A person of group that goes against the grain to the point of actually being heroes when examined.
The Joker is a great example in the Dark Knight. The idea of someone just disregarding all holding to just be and do amazes me.
In short, I like villains that are more misunderstood than purposefully evil.

I think this is exactly why Magneto has lasting appeal. He may be right and Xavier wrong. One hopes for Xavier to succeed, but it's good there is a Magneto if he fails.

Magneto also seems more real. He has passion and a goal. Even if it isn't a pretty goal with everyone receiving hugs, its a plausible goal. Where in Xavier, its more of a pipe dream that is just to rooted in wishful thinking.

He is trying to work within the constitutional system to get equal rights and basic protections for his people. it's been said that Xavier is to MLK what Magneto is to Malcolm X.
