Viper1115 gooberchild Viper1115 compression is when you raise the low sounds of the bass, and lower the sounds of the high notes of the bass, so everything you hit will be of equal balance, like the sounds are compressed into one uniform sound wouldnt that make it sound out of tune?, hmm I'm sorry I'm not completly understanding this. sorry... after reading that, yeah it would be out of tune, I shouldve said tones instead of notes, like the low undertones and overtones would be the same, and when you play powerchords, no note will stand out more than the other Just try it and see the difference, youll know what I mean, there will be more bass presence when you play Thats only if you like that style. I myself have a multieffects pedal. Boss ME-50 for the bass guitar. I never use it though, because Im a jazz bass player. The only thing I need right now is a preamp... Effects are only fun if your in a good punk or rock band IMO. Compression would kill jazz though. If you want to be a rocker, and keep yourself sounding the same and uniform, then compression would be the way, but if I were to do a bass solo, I love to have the higher range to sing with!

A friend of mine was recomending the Boss Bass overdrive petal, but I have a question. What is the difference between distortion and overdrive?
I just started learning scales and the actual music notation of everything so I can actually know what I'm playing because I think it will make playing alot easyer. I dont really have a style I play though I find bluesy sounding things alot easier then others.

A bit of distortion and a bit of reverb. I got this one song, where it's double backing on the bass, and I use a chorus with it.

As of now I just have a wah-wah pedal and violen bow if that counts. When I went to the music store the other day I saw this pedal board with almost everything you could think of. *drools* It is only $215. I'm working on making an octave pedal. I need to get a fuzz.

For Gift-Mas I got a ODB-3 Boss Bass Distortion pedal and I think its awesome. It was on sale so it was pretty in-expensive and its really easy to use. The booklet in it comes with some setting suggestions in it which are basically presets you can set it too. This is the first pedal I have purchased and I find it very easy to use. I am extremely happy with purchasing this pedal.

I really enjoy my chorus. My effects pedal is a Digitech BP-80, not the most sophisticated, but it gets the job done.
I love my chorus and phase shifter + wah, and some distortion every now and then.

The resulting sound is warmer and fuzzier than distortion. Distortion is more of a harsh sound. In my experience overdrive works better for bass as the low end still comes through, but it depends on what style you're going for. The Boss OD-3 overdrive is an awesome pedal that allows you to create a wide variety of sounds for a relatively cheap price.

I've owned a BP200, a digitech synth wah, and a Boss Wah. None of which i would recommend to anyone.
I would, however, recommend a sansamp bass driver. I'm currently trying to raise the funds for one of these bad boys but it'll set me back a couple hundred. Crybaby Bass Wah's are recommended too. And if it's a delay you're looking for, I'd go with a "made in japan" boss dd-2.

What would be the best pedal for a funk player?
I'd really like to play funk. Would I even need a pedal? Also I have a passive bass, are there any pedals with built in pre-amps?
*just got started doesn't know much about pedals and such*

Super Panda What would be the best pedal for a funk player? I'd really like to play funk. Would I even need a pedal? Also I have a passive bass, are there any pedals with built in pre-amps? *just got started doesn't know much about pedals and such* Well, Digitech has a multieffect pedal for basses, and all effects have amp-models in them. I know it has this one sound that makes the bass sound "funky". If that doesn't work, try slap bass.
