RP prior to Lorelei's arrival .[ Chasing Fiends ]. Deep in the recesses of the Battle Fleet Regional Gaia Headquarters something stirred. It was a small something, not immediately noticable to the general public, but this tiny stirring sent ripples of implication through the whole of the building and out into the surrounding streets. It began with the memory of a grumbling stomach. The memory happened to reside in the mind of Dr. (Jonathan) M. The stomach had long since been removed. Where it was now was anyone's guess; M himself did not know.
Even without a stomach, the odd little man was subject to the mental pangs of hunger. He felt them now, pulling him out of his office and into the hallway. He checked to make sure he was not about to be ambushed, of course, and shuffled his way across the corridor to the kitchens to begin a pot of coffee.
The coffee maker was probably the cheapest thing in the entire office. Stained, cracked, leaky and several times repaired, it was held together more by the hopes of its devoted constituency of coffee-drinkers than anything else.
There was one thing which could be agreed upon by everyone who partook of the near-mythical coffee maker. It made really, truly, horribly bad coffee. It also made coffee with far more caffeine than could be readily explained by the laws of physics, logic, or even Starbucks. And it made it really, really fast.
The machine had been purloined from the offices of the Intelligence Division. By order of the Supreme Commander itself, it was supposed to be disposed of. By interpretation of the Intelligence Division, Gaia was a trash dump. So the coffee maker found itself a new home where it could be appreciated by the person who loved it the most.
Dr. M leaned forward and stroked the plastic side of his coffee maker with his fingers, mindful not to agitate the tape holding together the large crack down the side. He looked deliriously happy as he admired it, breaking off his caress just long enough to drop in a new filter pack and turn the machine on. With a fizz and a sputter the water began to heat and the pot started to brew.
After getting the location of the feien "store" out of her sister's rather disagreeable feien Sunil, Chandra had scooped up a bored looking Marx and set out into the night. Not only was his manner bothering her, but Chandra tended to be more active at night anyway.
And this was how she found herself at the door to the Fleet HQ with Marx lounging comfortably in the ruff around the neck of her cloak. She tested the door and was surprised when it opened easily under her pale hand. Shrugging and then enduring a sigh from Marx, Chandra slipped into the HQ.
Unlike her sister had done before her, Chandra didn't say anything to the empty hallway that greeted her. Instead she simply began to explore, looking for signs of activity - not that she expected any. It wasn't until she got close to the kitchen door that she heard the coffee maker begin to sputter. Poking her head into the room, she ventured a quiet, "Hello?"
Dr. M looked up at the voice, his face instantly settling back into its normal appearance of mildly distressed neutrality. As quickly as he could (and with a speed borne from hours and hours of practice) he shoved his hands into the oversized pockets of his lab coat and spun around. Antipov had taught him never to show your back to your enemies, and also that enemy meant anyone and everyone.
Unfortunately, shoving his hands into his pockets did little to conceal their nervous shaking because his lab coat, previously spotless, was currently adorned with a combination of tears, rips, burns, and lots of dirt. It looked as if it had been in the middle of the arena at a monster truck rally. So too did Dr. M, his face covered in charcoal smudges, particularly around the area of his nose.
M's mouth pulled into a tight little frown, lips pursing. He did not speak at first, merely regarded Chandra warily and waited for her to make a move.
Taking the silence from Dr. M as a sort of default invitation to enter the room, Chandra stepped just inside the doorway. As she studied Dr. M, she suddenly was at a loss for words. His coat was filthy and so was his face, which made her wonder where he had been previously. However, she didn't like asking questions - and if he was anything like her, she had a feeling she wouldn't get any answers.
"I am Chandra and this is Marx."
After she had introduced herself, she decided to remark on something neutral.
"I see you are making coffee. Would there be enough for me to have some?"
Marx seemed content to simply sit in the comfort of his feathery perch and keep his silence for now. This trip, after all, had not been his idea.
Athan skidded to a stop on the street corner and tore a hand back through his dreaded hair a bit frantically. He grumbled under his breath when he caught sight of the fiend he'd recently awakened again, glittering darkly in the moonlight. His chasing after the little creature was rather comical to watch, and he was suddenly quite thankful that Reyna or anyone else he knew was there to witness it -- but particularly Reyna, and Wren. Yes. He'd be damned before he let either of the two demons see him chase after one of his own creations in such an undignified manner.
He nearly caught up to it once more before it darted away suddenly. "Oh come on," he murmured, glowing green eyes narrowing in a tic of irritation, "This little game has grown quite tiresome. If you don't come back I shall send you right back into the abyss you were locked into!"
The shadows around the orange piece of coral quaked visibly at that threat and he sighed as he was hit with a sudden wave of fear through his bond to the fiend. It skittered away quickly and dashed in through a door that had nearly closed behind someone.
He frowned and pressed a hand to his face in an effort to suppress a groan. Great.
Dr. M began to buzz. "Eeeeeeeee," he went with that peculiar vocal vibration of his, his mouth slightly open. He broke easily into speech: "Eeeee, I suppose so, it makes about ten cups. That leaves two I won't drink." His head nodded jerkily. He seemed not to notice that he was so terribly dirty or even that he had yet to introduce himself.
"It would be polite to introduce yourself." Marx finally spoke up, standing and looking down at Dr. M. He let the end of the statement trail upwards a little in tone, making it half a question. Perhaps he shouldn't have spoken, he thought - sitting back down.
Chandra simply blinked at the odd little man in front of her. She couldn't believe he was going to drink eight cups of coffee. It appeared to her as if he had already had too many.
And then she felt a little tug from the wisp currently hiding in the shadows under her cloak. In the past this had signalled another one of her kind somewhere around - and Chandra studied Dr. M even more curiously as if he might be the source of this disturbance.
"You," croaked Dr. M, staring at Marx from across the room. The coffee maker let out a brokenhearted chirp; it was done already. "I'm Dr. M." A hint of annoyance crept into his voice. He backed up towards the brewed coffee, still keeping his eyes on Chandra and Marx and his shaking hands in his tattered pockets. It was probably going to be fairly hard to pour out the coffee standing like that with his back to the counter.
He sighed and tentatively slipped inside the building and hoped desperately that the fiend hadn't created too much mayhem already. Truly, he was thankful it was no more than a mere wisp at the moment. He peered inside of the room he entered, quietly scanning the area for signs of other people or the wayward wisp.
If he could get away without encountering anyone or being accused of theivery, all the better. He took a few steps forward when he saw the little wisp dart around a corner, nothing more than a flash of orange and dark shadow. He tried to focus on his bond to the creature in an effort to pinpoint its location exactly, but found that instead of one, he felt two different wisps.
"Impossible," he muttered before falling silent when he heard voices. So much for not coming in contact with anyone. "Hello?" he called quietly, truly not wanting to disturb anyone or really draw a lot of attention to himself. He continued onwards before pausing in the doorway of the kitchen. Chandra was there. That would definately explain the second presence he felt.
Chandra took a step towards Dr. M as he backed himself into the counter.
"Would you like some assistance?" She asked mildly, quirking an eyebrow in his direction. He didn't appear to be quite right, or particularly capable of pouring the coffee himself - even though he must have started it brewing earlier.
Marx resisted the urge to say anything at all. If Chandra was taking care of things, it really wasn't his place to say anything. Even if he did think she could be handling things better.
And then as she felt the tug from the black pearl, which was now peeking out from under the back of her cloak, and heard someone familiar say hello - she turned her head away from Dr. M and stared at Athan.
"Hello, Athan." She managed. She hadn't expected to see him here.
"Hello," he replied with a sort of strained smile before his green eyes flickered towards Dr. M. He was quite the character, and not the sort he'd imagine seeing Chandra associate herself with. Then again he had to admit that he didn't know her that well. He frowned nonetheless as he realized his thoughts were straying just as the little coral fiend had. It left him distracted and fidgeting a bit nervously.
"You.. haven't per chance seen another wisp.. other than Pearl?" he asked, brow furrowed in worried lines, "I'm afraid it might have followed you in the door."
"I have not," she said, looking down at her own wisp. "But I have been preoccupied with interacting with Dr. M." Her she turned to look at the odd little man again. "Dr. M, this is Athan. Athan, this is Dr. M."
Introductions produced, she really wasn's sure what to do next and fell silent.
"I see you have... reinforcements," said Dr. M. he sounded quite unhappy about this revelation. His right hand dug through his pocket for something which must have fallen out through the large hole there. For the first time he looked down, realized he was missing a large portion of his pocket (not to mention the rest of his coat), and that if this was an enemy it wouldn't matter if he was facing the person or not. He was compeltely difenseless.
While a greater man might have panicked (for surely there was no man lesser than Dr. M) the little man merely shrugged, pulled his hands from his pockets, and turned away from Chandra to retrieve the coffee cups from the cupboard above his head.
Athan fell quiet after that and found himself simply staring at Dr. M quizzically. "It's.. a pleasure to meet you," he finally spoke up when he remembered his manners. His head tilted to the side slightly as he squinted over at the man as he reached for cups out of the cupboard. Strange, strange little man -- though who was he to talk? He was chasing a floating stone into buildings he likely had no place being.
As though beckoned the wisp in question appeared, swirling about his feet in small circles before drifting up to eye level. "Tired of playing hide and seek?" he hissed as he reached to snatch at the fiend before grumbling when it darted just out of reach.
One, two, three. M lined the coffee cups neatly in a row. He reached over for the pot, gently eased it free, and poured out three perfectly equal servings of coffee. He completely missed the sight of the wisp.
"Reinforcements?" Chandra questioned, giving Athan a confused look - to see whether he knew what the odd man was referring to. "I do not understand. I simply came here because I have a feien." She guestured to Marx, who was blatantly staring at Dr. M.
"Sunil said this was the equivalent of a feien headquarters."
Dr. M took the first two cups of coffee in his hands and turned back around to face them, saying as he did, "Yes, we are considered a sort central agency for the monitoring and--" He nearly fumbled the cup as he spotted the strange anomaly in the air. His mouth fell open with curious surprise.
Athan merely shrugged at the look Chandra shot him. He had no idea what the building he was in was about, nor what a Feien was. He speculated that what she was referring to was the small fairy that was sitting on her shoulder. He squinted at it for a moment curiously before turning his attention back towards the wisp that was skittering about. Perhaps if he didn't move as though to snatch it up he could catch it off guard.
"It's a Fiend," he informed the other man at his look of surprise.
As quickly as he could manage without spilling any of the precious liquid, Dr. M slid the mugs back onto the kitchen counter and freed his hands, never taking his eyes off the wisp. It wasn't easy. The small thing moved quite quickly and M's eyes had to dance a jig behind his glasses to accomplish the feat. Tentatively, he took a step in the wisp's direction.
By now, the black pearl had crept its way up the back of Chandra's cloak and appeared to be watching the other fiend as it teased Athan.
Marx was staring at the cups of coffee Dr. M had turned around with and wondering whether it was his place to aks whether one of those was the requested cup of coffee for Chandra.
Chandra, noting the look on Dr. M's face, looked to see Athan attempting to catch a fiend she hadn't seen before and turned back around to make the best explanation she could offer to the odd little man.
"It is a shadow fiend," she said. "I have one. They appear to be spirits of some sort which have been trapped in gemstones."
He watched with a vauge look of amusement as Dr. M gazed at the fiend dancing about in the air. He hoped quietly that the creature would decide to behave itself. He could feel waves of curiosity filter through his bond to the creature, and despite his best efforts he couldn't suppress the small smile that tugged at his lips at that.
"Perhaps.. you can catch it. I've been trying to all evening," he said quietly as though he were afraid he'd cause the creature to skitter in fear at the sound of his voice. He had threatened it previously.
"I see," said Dr. M, lying through his teeth (but convincingly). "A form of energy-based life?" He edged closer still. "Intelligent?"
The Black Pearl, which had been encroaching on Marx's shoulder space - skittered back down to vanish under Chandra's skirt at Dr. M's movement in Athan's direction. With a sigh, Chandra tried to radiate comfort down the bond that fed back only some sort of regret and fear.
Marx stood and balancing against Chandra's neck, turned so he could watch Athan - even if Chandra was going to watch Dr. M.
"I assume so," Chandra said in response to Dr. M, blinking. "The Pearl acts of her own accords if that's what you mean."
Dr. M frowned, tilted his head to the side, and immediately scurried back to his coffee cups. It looked as if he had abandoned the effort, but then he held out one of the cups towards the fiend in the air. "Would it like some coffee?"
"Yes. They're quite intelligent," Athan added to what Chandra had already stated, "This is their most basic form. Once they've been bonded to a guardian they're then capable of taking on a more humanoid form." He crossed his arms over his chest and watched as the fiend floated midair, tentatively moving a little closer towards the doctor out of curiosity. "They're quite inclined to create mischeif and general mayhem, as well," he added with a frown as he stared pointedly at the creature as though to admonish it with his own feelings of irritation.
His frown washed away at Dr. M's offer of coffee. "It's actually incapable of eating or drinking much of anything," he told the little man with a faint smile, "They are sustained by energy from their bonded."
"Like feien," Marx observed. "We don't have to eat."
Chandra had been wondering why Marx had been bonded to her, but it had seemed like a rude question to ask since it carried the implication she didn't want him around. This comment cleared things up and she started to wonder if Marx would be bound to the same rules as the Pearl which seemed to stick to her like glue.
Dr. M immediately began to rattle off a stream of information. "The juvenile feien perpetrates an electrical connection between itself and a larger creature, thereby removing the necessity of food consumption as a way of energy procuration. The juvenile feien has a fully developed digestive system and can eat if it chooses. In its adult form, however, the energy field is insufficient to maintain the feien and traditional food sources must be sought. There have also been noted certain benefits to food consumption with regards to magical ability and power." He continued holding the coffee cup up in the air in the fiend's direction.
"Interesting," Athan replied as his gaze drifted away from the fiend that was now buzzing about the offered coffee cup curiously and settled on Marx. He'd known of the existence of fairies and the like, but he was not familiar with this particular breed, for lack of a better term.
The coral wisp bumped tenatatively against the cup with a small 'clack' as it's carved surface met against the ceramic cup. The small noise attracted Athan's attention back towards it and he smiled faintly as he realized it was preoccupied. He reached out with one hand and snatched up the creature with a triumphant smirk. The inky darkness that surrounded it swirled in protest about his hand as the stone quivered against his palm. "Serves you right," he muttered out loud.
"Fascinating," Marx said, his tone making it questionable as to whether he actually meant what he said or was just being polite. He did however, tuck the information away.
Chandra also tucked it away for future knowledge, but supprssed the desire to ask more questions about feien. And noticed, for the first time, that Dr. M didn't appear to have a feien with him.
"Hmm," hummed Dr. M, and put the coffee mug to his lips. He drank.
And drank.
And drank.
And in the space of about fifteen seconds the cup was completely emptied. Dr. M went back to the pot to pour himself another. "Are there many such creatures here on Gaia?" he asked. "Thirteen so far, this one included. Their number will continue to grow as I awaken them," he replied simply before falling quiet with a troubled frown, though he didn't voice what it was that bothered him aloud. "The stones that contain them are spread across several different dimensions," he spoke up after a moment, "It makes finding them a little tricky... and a bit of a hassle."
Marx, obviously starting to get bored, settled back down into his nest and leaned back.
Chandra, feeling her own energy start to wane, bobbed her head at Dr. M and then Athan.
"I believe I need to be going. It is late."
She attempted to slip her way past Athan and back out into the hallway.
"Ahh, I specialize in dimensions," said Dr. M, turning about with a fresh cup of coffee. He headed for the round kitchen table. "It's a fascinating line of research. Have you encountered many problems with the instability matrix of portals?" Apparently the good doctor assumed that anyone who spent time finding stones across several dimensions must be as vested in the technical science of dimensions as he clearly was.
M let out a small, contemplative hum at Chandra's departure. His mind was on the other two cups of steaming coffee still sitting on the counter.
Athan nodded his head towards Chandra as she headed towards the door. He glanced idly over his shoulder as though deciding that perhaps he should leave as well. He felt a bit out of place. His attention was quickly caught once more by Dr. M in reguards to traveling through demensions.
"I.. am afraid I'm not so familiar with any of the technical aspects reguarding the instability matrix of portals, but I have encountered a few.. problems when traveling through them," he replied cautiously, "Most of those problems consist of accidentally losing small items when passing through them." There was also how taxing it could be, but his health generally wasn't at the top of his list of things to worry about.
"Hmm, sounds like you need to adjust the frequency range of your transportation unit, or perhaps your personal harmonics." Dr. M nodded sagely and downed the second cup. The act of drinking coffee gave Athan enough time to escape.
"Perhaps," he replied before glancing down at the fiend in his hand that had resumed its futile struggle at escaping. "It is rather late," he commented in a distracted sort of fashion, "I best be heading home now that I've caught my wayward creation." He inclined his head slightly and left the good doctor sitting at the round table with his coffee. He'd certainly had quite the evening.
Noting that his audience was gone but more importantly that he was in need of more coffee, Dr. M rose from his seat and went to retrieve one of the already filled mugs. It was gone in an instant, its identical companion following a moment later. M paused a moment mentally check his consumption. Four cups. He eagerly refilled all three of the cups in front of him as an an afterthought grabbed one more mug from the cupboard and filled that, too. Gripping the four steaming cups carefully in his hands he headed back for his office.
Thankfully there was no one around to observe the trick of how he managed to open his office door while carrying two cups of coffee in each hand.

Athan becomes Lorelei's bonded .[ The Beginning of Chaos ]. He sat quietly at his desk in his study with his chin resting atop his folded hands. The room was dimly lit and his eyes glowed faintly in the darkness as he peered pointedly down at the small fairy that was sitting atop a stack of books on his desk. She stared back at him and regarded him with the same intense, scrutinizing gaze.
Athan sighed as he shifted to lean back in his chair as one hand came up to press against his face in a weary sort of way. He'd thought perhaps he'd stop by the Feien Fairies HQ to see if he might find that curious 'Dr. M' fellow once more. He had claimed he specialized in the study of dimensions. Considering he lived in a dimension other than that of Gaia, he figured a conversation concerning that matter would have been quite informative and useful. He didn't claim to understand the technical workings of dimensional travel, but he did know that on ocassion science had it's uses even though he preferred to rely on his own magical abilities.
Instead of finding the strange little man, he suddenly found himself bonded to a Feien by the name of Lorelei. She had been fairly silent since he had returned home with her. He'd absently worried about losing her when he teleported to his home considering her small size seeing as he sometimes lost small trinkets and loose change when traveling through portals.
Thankfully nothing eventful happened, but it still left him with an interesting predicament. What the hell was he going to do with a fairy? He had no use for one, nor was he the nurturing sort that would care to take care of any sort of pet, never mind a miniature sized person.
"So are you just going to sit and stare at me all evening?" Lorelei piped up as she stood and stretched out her red, bat-like wings with her hands on her hips.
Athan arched a brow at that but merely shook his head in response after pushing his hair out of his face. He said nothing in response to that small barb seeing as the only thing he could come up with sounded horribly childish inside his head. He wasn't the sort to resort to things such as, "You started it," even if it did cross his mind briefly. He decided that he'd spent too much time arguing with Reyna.
"Do you have to eat anything?" he asked.
"Well.. I can.." the fairy answered before simply trailing off as she hopped off the small stack of books she'd been standing on and landed gracefully on her feet.
"You can," Athan replied as he stood and squinted down at the fairy, clearly waiting for a response that was a bit more clear cut than that. He scowled faintly when he was greeted only with silence. "Well?" he prompted.
"Well, what?"
"Would you like to eat something?" he asked as he folded his arms across his chest.
"Maybe," she answered slowly as though contemplating whether or not to accept the offer.
Athan didn't wait for her to make up her mind. Instead, he sighed in an exasperated manner and stalked upstairs to the kitchen to find something for himself. Lorelei took to the air and glided after him. Even if she didn't eat something she at least wanted to explore what was now her new home.
The staircase they climbed up together seemed terribly long to the fairy and she eventually settled herself onto her bonded's shoulder to cling to his robes and hair while he went up the incline. It wound around and around in an odd way until finally they came to a cellar-like door over their heads.
He placed one hand against the door. A runes and swirling lines appeared along the surface and ebbed out from where his hand was placed against the wood. The lines and markings glowed a bright green before the door itself faded from view. Athan stepped through with a faint smirk at the look Lorelei shot him.
"I'll alter the spell for you. Just in case you manage to get trapped down there," he informed her as he quietly padded towards the kitchen.
"How nice of you."
Athan chose to ignore the slight bite in that comment as he entered the kitchen. Immediately he made himself some tea and decided to rummage through his fridge. He didn't have many modern appliances, but he did make good use of the coffee maker and the refridgerator. He'd found that both were indispensable.
He sat down at the bar at the counter and helped himself to a bowl of fruit and idly offered the fairy some as well. Lorelei eyed the rather large grape that he'd set down on a small saucer. It was sliced in half so it was a bit easier for her to get a grip on, but it was still about the size of an overly large soccer ball, but not quite as round.
She reached to tear off a piece of the fruit and snicker faintly when she realized that it was terribly slimy! This amused her to no end. She wasn't at all squeamish when it came to stuff like that. She settled herself down on the bar a little ways away from Athan as she ate her piece of fruit. Perhaps.. living with him wouldn't be so bad.
He was strange, as was his house. It was different from anything she'd ever seen before, but that made it interesting. It would certainly be fun to explore!

Lorelei explores through her new home. .[ Sifting Through Dust ]. The house was eerily quiet when she was the only one there. Athan had long since left for work, grumbling under his breath. Really, he had all but ignored her, but she hadn't at all gone out of her way to make her presence known. He had mentioned previously, though, that she could explore all she wanted so long as she avoided the certain rooms with the house.
That, of course, made her curious as to what was in those rooms. Athan promised her it was nothing extraordinary, but it was likely she could end up hurt. Seeing as she could only heal small cuts and bruises, exploring those rooms were (temporarily) out of the question.
Even still, the house was quite large and she was quite small. There were plenty of things to see! She smiled at that and took to the air from the kitchen counter, beaming faintly when she only wobbled a little bit when she initially took off. She landed carefully on a nearby window sill and looked around from her new vantage point.
She was in the middle of a grand hallway. It was even large by a human standards, and she idly wondered why her bonded lived all alone in a house so very large. Clearly it was meant, at least at one time, for entertaining and being filled with people rather than dusty old artifacts and one disgruntled old mage.
Lorelei snickered at that. The thought of Athan as a wizened old man seemed rather comical to her. She turned to press her hands against the pane of glass she was standing near to look outside. There seemed to be nothing but grassy land and a few sparse trees here and there. Hadn't Athan claimed there was a forest or some such near by?
She pondered this thought for a moment before jumping over towards the next window ledge with a hop. She squeaked faintly as she nearly missed the ledge but thankfully she managed to use her wings to catch her balance. She grinned and leaned back against the cool pane of glass. Despite the sudden pang of fear of falling to the ground without anyone around to help her, the rush of adrenaline was quite thrilling.
She shifted to move and take to the air once more, but paused when a small movement caught her eye. She pressed herself closer back against the pane of glass and peeked around the moulding where she thought she had seen the movement.
"What is.." she whispered before clapping a hand over her mouth lest she spook the strange creature that was slithering across the floor. It was roughly a foot long and looked very much like a snake, but unlike any snake she'd ever seen, it had wings.
"How strange," she breathed to herself as she watched in wide-eyed wonder as the winged creature slithered it's way out of view. Once she was certain it was gone she glided down off the ledge to land softly on the floor. She glanced around a bit nervously. That thing seemed as big as her. It simply wouldn't do to become someone's snack.
Despite that nagging fear she walked forward to peek through the crack in the wall the beast had slithered through. It was just big enough that if she wrapped her wings about herself she could probably make it through without too much of a problem. A small stream of light filtered through it and she smiled faintly as she watched the dust she stirred up from peeking inside the hole seemed to make the air glitter.
She moved away from the small crack in the wall before launching herself back into the air. She would have to remember that was there so she might explore it once she was done looking through the rest of the house itself.
"Should make a map," she thought aloud. She frowned faintly as she contemplated the idea of doing so. She'd need some paper and something to write with. Unfortunately, the one place she knew where such things were, was currently locked up down below where the spiral staircase led. She thought perhaps she could rummage through some of the other rooms for such items, but she quickly discovered that most of the doors were firmly shut -- and she was much too small to open them.
"How irritating!" she declared while stomping one foot on the ground before snickering when it stirred up a cloud of dust. She grinned and did it again to watch it swirl through the air. It didn't bother her senses as she knew it probably would others. It was her element.
She jumped up into the air with a sort of child-like glee before allowing herself to plummet back down a few inches to land on her feet with her knees bent. She laughed quietly to herself as she watched the swirling patterns before she went quiet and still.
She had seemingly disturbed the winged snake from down the hall as it was now slithering towards her, hissing in warning. Her eyes widened in fright before instinct kicked in and she took to the air, sending waves of dust twirling around her with her wings just as the creature lurched forward as though to strike.
She knew, perhaps, she ought to be a little more frightened. Instead, she was filled with curiosity. What was it? She flew off towards the kitchen to escape the creature and sat herself atop the counter where she had first started off from. She would definately need to pester Athan about what that thing was.
Even so, she decided that she'd had enough of an adventure for the time being. Being eaten wasn't on the top of her to-do list.

RP with Magiale - Lorelei meets Raphael! .[ Out and About ]. Raphael's breath was fogging in the cold air as he flew towards the shop. He was familiar with the phenomenon by now, of course, but it still fascinated him. He breathed in and out, purposefully trying to create as much fog as possible. Raphael never made as much fog as his bond did, though he made just enough to prove that there was some kind of heat within him, even if his element was cold.
He flew through the window he had flown through last time, landing on the window pane. The Raphael-made breath fog disappeared as he came into the waiting room and looked about curiously.
Athan walked steadily down the street towards the Feien HQ. Truly, he had no real desire to be out in the cold weather. He disliked the cold quite a bit and greatly preferred the warmth of spring and summer to the nipping chill of fall and winter. Either way, Lorelei had insisted it was absolutely necessary for her to get out of the house, and seeing as his house was in another dimension, he had to be the one to open the portal to Gaia.
He likely would have complained a great deal more, if not for the fact that he hadn't taken the time to really interract with her all that much. Plus she'd been trapped in his dusty old house (though she didn't at all mind the dust since it was her element) for weeks now and was beginning to grow restless.
Lorelei sat on her bonded's shoulder with a smug sort of look on her face. It had been relatively easy to play upon the man's conscience to convince him to take her out of the house. He truly was a nice guy but she had had more than enough exploring of the house, and now wanted to peek about the Feien HQ some.
Upon seeing the building she glided away from Athan with her red bat-like wings outstretched fully. She smiled faintly as she hit the buzzer and flew inside.
Despite himself, Raphael jumped when he heard the buzzer. He turned from staring at the waiting chairs to face the entrance instead. He immediately noted the little red feien entering, as red wasn't an easy color to miss, but didn't notice the bond.
Hovering in the air, he paused before remembering himself. He flew towards the red one with a hesitant smile. Best not to make them come for you, Magiale had said rather recently. He didn't quite understand why, but that was what she had said.
"Hello," he said in a small voice, hovering about a foot from her.
"Uh.. hello," Lorelei replied as she eyed the other Feien a bit curiously. She'd seen plenty of her kind before, but she hadn't really done much socializing. She was typically a bit too preoccupied to pay much attention to anyone or anything else. She paused for a moment, hovering midair before deciding that it couldn't hurt to attempt at being social. "I'm Lorelei... and your name is?"
She idly glanced behind her when her bonded entered the shop with a faint scowl on his face. The sour look melted somewhat when he was greeted with a warm burst of air after stepping out of the cold. "Going to the kitchen for coffee," he muttered faintly as he dragged his long trench-like coat tighter about himself and headed towards where he remembered the kitchen to be the last time he had visited.
Raphael realized, quite suddenly, that this other feien was actually shorter than he was. He'd met shorter feien before, but it was a rare thing. He blinked, a bit disoriented as the bond went into the kitchen. However, he smiled again as they entered introductions. He was relatively familiar with the process by now.
"Raphael," he answered, floating backwards a bit despite himself. "It's nice to meet you, Lor ah lye."
"Nice to meet you as well," she answered with a small smile before idly ruffling her bright blue and yellow hair with one hand in an unconscious gesture. "Have you been here before?" she asked curiously. She'd only been to the HQ once when she'd first been bonded to Athan, but that wasn't information she was going to readily volunteer. She wasn't exactly forthright when it came to divulging information of any sort.
Raphael, on the other hand, didn't seem particularly hesitant about divulging information. "I've been here only once before," he admitted. Aleric did not seem to be here as he was last time, however - perhaps he had gotten better.
A bright tinge came to his cheeks as he managed to stop himself from drifting backward. He had just noticed it when he'd tried to speak - how stupid of him!
"I really don't know much about the place," he noted humbly. "Have you been here often before?" The question seemed the polite response, at least to him.
Lorelei paused a moment as she eyed the other Feien. "Mm.. not very often," she replied. It wasn't at all an outright lie. She hadn't been there but once before which was the equivalent of not often. She smirked at that thought before shoving it aside, as she noted that the other Feien seemed a bit nervous. He kept backing away from her.
Did he possibly think her a threat? She found that thought rather amusing, though she wasn't truly the sort to instigate a fight for no reason. Wrestling in general sounded fun, just for kicks. She was fairly certain that she could take on the other Feien easily enough, though that wasn't something she at all intended on doing. Raphael was nervous enough as it was, and he seemed to be a bit older than her. Underestimating someone so easily probably wasn't too bright of an idea.
"Do you know where the kitchen is?" she asked simply. That was where Athan had said he was going and she hadn't paid attention to which direction he went off to.
Raphael shook his head apologetically, blushing.
"I never really explored the place," he said, "but I think it's nearby. Well, actually..." He thought further about it, and then turned towards the hallway that had lead him into the lounge before.
"I might have passed by it once," he admitted sheepishly. "I - I think I can show you." He began floating towards the hallway, struggling with whether he should go off immediately and expect her to follow, or whether he should wait for her to answer.
"Alright," she answered as she flew after him, "Let's go!" She beamed brightly as she allowed her wings to carry her high up into the air before dashing back down again to rush past Raphael playfully. It made her rather giddy, and it was excellent excercise in her opinion.
Despite the tall, vaulted ceilings in Athan's home she'd stayed rather low to the ground. She'd discovered fairly quickly that things within that house weren't always what they seemed, but this place was intended to have Feien flying about. That was the reasoning her mind supplied her with anyway.
She paused before one of the open door ways in and peered inside. The kitchen! And there was her bonded, brooding over his cup of coffee, still bundled up to ward off the chill.
Raphael nodded and smiled as he found himself following after her instead of leading. At least she was beaming, so that was a good thing. He gaped at her acrobatics and also looked after where she was peering.
"Um, I think this is the kitchen," he said rather unnnecessarily. Even though he was almost in the kitchen, he was once again attacked by doubt and hesitated there, watching the human. "That is your bonded?" he asked politely, but once again unnecessarily.
"Yes," she replied as she headed up towards the table and landed a little ways away from Athan's coffee mug, "This is Athan." She glanced back towards the other Feien and then to her bonded, "That's ...Raphael, wasn't it? Yes."
The man smiled faintly and gave a less than enthusiastic wave as a greeting. Really, he wasn't so bad of a guy, but he was a bit tired. He hadn't been resting well as of late, and being out in less than pleasant weather drained him somewhat. "It's a pleasure," he spoke up in a low, quiet voice as he peered curiously over at the other little fairy. He hadn't seen many of Lorelei's kind, so the novelty of having being around fairies and the like hadn't quite worn off.
Raphael smiled politely as he came into the kitchen finally, nodding.
"I am Raphael, yes. It's nice to meet you as well," he said to Athan. Raphael could smell the coffee from the coffee mug rather clearly - it smelled very strong, at least for him. Raphael's wings began to twitch, causing him to turn slightly. He quickly corrected himself.
Athan reached for his coffee and took a sip as he glanced from Raphael to his own fairy. Awkward. He wasn't quite sure what to say to either of them, really. He wasn't really the best conversationalist unless he was selling something, charming someone, or arguing with Reyna. He was a quiet man by nature, but what did one discuss with two fairies?
Lorelei wasn't at all bothered by her bonded's silence. She'd become rather accustomed to it, and almost preferred it in a way. She liked how he left her to her own devices most of the time. It gave her plenty of time to work out ideas for .. well.. everything!
"So.. I'm going to take a wild guess that you came here on your own?" Lorelei asked Raphael suddenly as though the thought had just struck her. At the same time she walked towards where Athan's hand lay on the table. There was a small piece of string dangling from his coat's sleeve. It would be perfect for her little... project.
Raphael was caught off guard by the question, but nodded, suddenly thinking of Magiale. "Yes, I came here alone..."
He smiled sheepishly and stared at his feet. Apparently his feet were nervous, as they were shivering slightly. He was feeling a bit tired just hanging in the air, now that he thought about it. Raphael twitched his wings and lit over to the kitchen table, keeping his distance from the heat of the coffee and the silent bond. He hoped he hadn't done anything wrong.
"Is that okay?" he asked, fidgeting.
Lorelei blinked, a bit taken aback by Raphael's question. "I don't see why it's not?" she offered, "I only came with Athan because.. well.." She trailed off and glanced away from the other fairy as she thought of how she wanted to phrase exactly what it was she wanted to say, or if she really wanted to tell him.
"..because her bonded lives in another dimension," Athan explained with a smirk at the look Lorelei tossed him, "And she can't open a portal to and from Gaia." The man paused for a moment as he took another sip of his coffee. "Unless she's withholding that information, that is." He eyed his fairy warily for a moment, but he wouldn't truly be upset with her if she were keeping that secret to herself.
"I can't open portals," she informed him as she snapped out her wings a bit in a visible tick of irritation. "Can you do anything like that?" she asked as she glanced towards Raphael with a look of curiosity as her anger faded as she averted her attention away from her bonded.
Raphael's wings relaxed slightly at Lorelei's response to his question, though his eyes widened at the mention of different dimensions. He appeared to have been completely oblivious to the smirk and look passed between the two.
"I - wow, that's - Portals? I - what are those?" he asked in a bit of a jumble, not particularly coherent. The idea of dimensions sounded familiar, however, and his natural curiosity began to perk a bit.
Lorelei scoot towards the edge of the table so she could swing her legs back and forth. She smiled over at Raphael, amused by his curiosity, but didn't bother to answer. She really didn't know the technical aspects to how Athan travelled two and from Gaia on a regular basis, though now she was curious herself. Perhaps she would make an attempt to wring info from Athan later on.
"Well," Athan spoke up as he realized that his Feien wasn't going to speak up, "The sort I'm referring to are magically constructed and allow a person to travel to different realms or worlds. Fascinating stuff, really."
Raphael agreed, settling down to sit down himself, though crosslegged and nowhere near the edge, though actually it was only a few inches away. Partly it was to keep himself from getting too tired, but it was also because standing might command too much attention to himself, since Lorelei wasn't upright anymore.
As for Athan's words, he only vaguely understood what he was talking about, but smiled all the same.
"It does sound fascinating. You live in...another world? What is that like?" That question, Raphael realized with an inward grimace, was one of those ones that he couldn't quite decide was polite or not. He fidgeted again, twiddling his thumbs as he spoke.
"It's a lot like Gaia but with a lot less people," Lorelei answered, deciding to volunteer a bit of information. She'd discovered that when she'd briefly skittered outside to peek around the house. There wasn't much to see. Nothing but a few sparse trees and grassy land as far as the eye could see, and in the middle of it all was Athan's house. It was safe to say the man appreciated his privacy. There was no one to bother him for miles.
Athan merely nodded in response, quietly agreeing with his Feien as he downed the last of his coffee.
"There are a lot of people in Gaia," he agreed. Even though he had only ventured out of the home so many times, the times he had ventured out he had always seen plenty of people, out and about.
The kitchen seemed oddly dark, despite being lit. Raphael frowned and stood up, even though he hadn't been sitting very long at all.
"I'm terribly sorry, but it was nice meeting you both, both of you," he said, flustered.
"I - I, well, I think I should - well, it was, maybe we'll meet again, or hopefully - " He gave up and settled with a blush and a smile, and went into the air to leave.

A little shop RP - compiled by ShortGreen <3 .[ From One Shop to Another ]. When the three -- no, four, the fourth figure so small as to be eclipsed by her human companions -- figures materialized in the center of the Fleet's Gaia HQ waiting room, they were already in the middle of a conversation.
"... you give them half an inch, they will take from you a mile," Antipov was saying, missing the proper delivery for the adage just enough to exaggerate his non-native English. "Do not trust these Gaians."
The ever-hopeful doctor alongside the Director adjusted his coat, grimacing more than a little. "Don't mind that. I'm sure it's just a case of finding the smooth handle. What's important right now is the feien. Wouldn't you say, Director?"
Antipov made a noise that could hardly be interpreted as agreeable and fixed their companion with a stern look. "If anything it is the feien you should be worried about, Captain Rabik."
The dark haired woman merely nodded, seemingly unaware of the feien that was sitting on her squared shoulders; her posture was perfect and her dark eyes were fixed obediently (but not insolently) on the Director's face. "Yes, sir. I shall keep that in mind," she replied. "I cannot imagine that everyone has trained their feien in any sort of suitable manner." Suddenly, she twisted her head and regarded the small purple-marked creature on her shoulder cooly. "Galatea is well-behaved and will, I'm sure, help in any endeavors."
Pink eyes wide, Galatea nodded shortly. "Yes, ma'am. Of course. As the Director says."
Antipov smirked; Dr. Beckham looked as if he was trying to bite back a thousand more suggestions, considering the woman's track record.
The director swept his hand around the room. "This is our Regional Headquarters on Gaia, I am sure it will soon become as second nature to you."
"Of course." Serafima Rabik shifted her attention to take in the room around them, dismissing and absorbing without thought. "I plan on visiting frequently. After all, I wish to remain on track with the information until Dr. Beckham pronounces me ready for reinstatement."
"Which will only come if you take the time to relax and bond with Galatea," the doctor reminded her. "Remember, she's not only your cure, but she's a living and breathing being. Don't treat her as some kind of organic pill, Captain. The road to recovery will come quicker if you and Galatea get to know each other. Remember to talk to her, for goodness' sake. You're extraordinarily capable, Captain, don't be complacent and leave her like you did the bloom." It sounded like as much of a critique as Beckham would ever offer.
Antipov, of course, gave another of his snorts of disdain, and added an eye roll this time for good measure.
Raising an eyebrow, Serafima rewarded Dr. Beckham's words with a cool look. "I speak to her," she replied shortly. "I am aware of her living status, Doctor. Just as I remember your... Corrections when she was still a bloom."
Galatea twined her fingers together and ducked her head; she seemed accustomed to being discussed in front of herself. "It is alright, sir," she murmured, barely audible. "The Captain is a very good bond. She is strong."
***
From the lounge resounded a shriek of pure, unadulterated, rage.
"HE WHAT!!!?? What do you mean Silva took off on some cockamaemie QUEST with Aleric and Soho! Why that no good, rotten, arrogant, misanthropic b*****d didn't even say goodbye!" Averno's hollering was half panic, half anger as she stomped across a couch irritably.
Arae winced at the yelling, folding her arms over her chest and peering at her co-bond through one eye slitted open, the other one shut tight against the steaming fury of her 'sister'.
"I don't understand why you're so upset, Averno, I thought you hated him?" she pointed out.
Averno froze in her pacing and glared at Arae. "Yes. Of course I hate him. I just...just like to keep my friends close and my enemies closer." Right, that sounded plausible. Right?
***
Antipov actually startled; he hadn't checked with security to see if anyone was actually -in- the building prior to his arrival, because he knew security kept the place safe for arrivals at all times. "Ah," he said, "the locals." He said it as one remarked on the technologically-disadvantaged local tribes of unexplored regions, or perhaps the Russian peasantry.
"Indeed. And as an officer, I know the value of strength," said Antipov, a not-too-subtle jibe at Beckham's nonmilitary status.
If anything, that just made Beckham look even more worried. He bent his head a little, giving Galatea a kindly smile. "Well, now, don't you be afraid to get to know the other feien, Galatea. Act like a juvenile while you still can. Get some, er, fun in."
Considering the shriek that Averno had produced, Dr. Beckham looked as if he somehow doubted fun could, in fact, be had. He straightened up, and adjusted his coat again. "Strength isn't the be-all and end-all. Love is going to play an important part in this, saccharine as it sounds."
You could hear Antipov's mental anguish at this love statement. He made a sour face.
***
Arae's musical laughter floated from the lounge. "Oh my word, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you were in love with Silva." She blinked and peered closer at Averno, reaching out a hand to stop her sister's pacing. She looked at her closely then blinked some more.
"You ARE! You're in love with that raving lunatic! Really Averno, I thought better of you."
Averno jerked away from Arae's grasp and turned her back on her, muttering a rather unconvincing, "Don't be ridiculous. He means nothing to me."
With a few more heatedly exchanged words, Arae and Averno stomped out, unaware there were others in the HQ.
***
Carefully unfolding her hands, Galatea stood. One of her tiny hands momentarily had rested upon Serafima's ear as she clambered to her feet but it was immediately drawn back as if burnt. Then she again laced her fingers together and held them over her stomach, shoulders back and head high; she was obviously mimicing her bond's military bearing. "I will do my best, Doctor, sir," she answered. "I will meet with others." She paused to glance at the room where the noises were coming from and frowned. "And... Perhaps we can exchange information."
Serafima nearly smiled at that. "As you can see, Doctor, Galatea is more than capable of living her own life. I do not have to watch over her every moment of the day. Please stop advising me of love."
"YES," said Antipov, a degree too loud. "When your love leaves you, if you do not have strength you will not endure. Love is merely a temporary condition, strength will bear you through all times."
"I am your doctor, Captain, so don't brush off my advice," Beckham said, obviously mentally grumbling about the military types and the fact that every single one of them needed at least seven good sessions of therapy. "I'll be checking up on you regularly. Honestly. I'm not as prejudiced as the Director against these Gaians, but the last time I came I was called as an emergency for a mass poisoning! Keep your eye on Galatea. She is young yet. And don't listen to the Director, either, he's very fond of Verine. She's in excellent health."
"Tch," said Antipov, folding his arms and looking away. Having Verine brought up seemed to embarrass him; his cheeks even flushed a degree noticable to Serafima's eagle eyes.
Galatea almost brightened at the mention of Verine; she had never had the pleasure but she listened and, thanks to Serafima's influence, held the elder feien in the same holy awe that her bond held Antipov. "I promise I will be careful, Doctor, and I will be healthy," she assured him breathily. "I do not want to inconvenience Captain Rabik."
Another near-smile flashed over Serafima's severe features, as pleased as she ever got.
"Director, you look a bit flushed," said Beckham cheerfully, obviously loving every moment of getting to rarely tease the other man. "Are you sure you don't want me to check you for a fever? You could be coming down with something."
"Gah, no, stay away!" said Antipov, jumping back a step and uncrossing his arms. He pushed at his glasses. "I suppose I should give you a tour of the premises."
Serafima immediately snapped to attention, nearly knocking Galatea from her shoulder. The feien scrabbled and grabbed at a loose piece of hair until she regained her balance. "Yes, sir." Somehow, Serafima managed to even -sound- like she was saluting. "That would be very useful."
Straightening, Antipov gestured to the nearby door with his name on it. "This is my office. I am in it often enough that you may expect to find me there. Down this way," he started down the hall, "Hamada's office, the kitchen, the refrigerator is fully-stocked, a closet, the bathroom..." He paused and slowed as they neared the lounge, only to nearly run into the exiting woman and her feien. He started to say something, then stepped aside to let them pass.
Next to both of them, Beckham sighed, obviously willing himself desperately not to let the words 'stress-related tension exercises' pass his lips to the Captain.
Antipov waited until Sajhiri, Averno, and Arae were safely gone before continuing. "This is Dr. M's office over here, but I do not expect he will let you in it. And finally, this is the lounge. It has some popularity with the local feien and their bonds."
"They come and go here freely?" Serafima asked. "There is no clearance necessary?"
***
Skittering from her bonded's shop to the Feien HQ hadn't been nearly as difficult as Lorelei had anticipated it might have been. Then again, there were no spelled corridors or locked doors to keep her from flying there like there were at home.
She was rather proud of herself, really, that she had managed to make it there all by herself without Athan. She grinned at that and hit the buzzer to allow herself inside, but came to a stop when she heard other people. Their voices were much too loud to be Feien.
***
"Not generally," nodded Antipov. "If anyone who is unauthorized attempts to enter the building, security merely locks the door. Surveillance is constant." That went without saying; Fleet Security was legendary for monitoring everything on Fleet property.
"Though that didn't much help with the rampant murder and murder attempts," Beckham said. "Security doesn't really get involved in feien issues. Galatea can die here perfectly in sight of the cameras if she likes, unmolested."
"Of course." And she meant it. Serafima believed utterly and fully in the Fleet and trusted their measures. "Is the building open all hours or are there designated times? Should we report in at regular intervals?"
As the big people talked, Galatea stared around the various rooms with big eyes. A bit nervous at the newness of it all, she fidgeted with a piece of her long hair for a moment before firmly controlling herself and again lacing fingers together in a "ready" position. Realizing that Dr. Beckham had been discussing her, she raised her head. "Oh, no, sir. I will not die. I will be most careful."
At that, Antipov actually looked rather furious. "We have been bound by an agreement to not interfere with the affairs of the local feien. Galatea is not a local feien, she is Fleet personnel, and furthermore, the security systems were put into place by Adomital himself!" His voice rose as he spoke until he was shouting at the doctor.
It had been a while since Ice had been in the fleet building. She wasn't sure it was a good idea, really... not after how much trouble had happened while she was gone. That and Silva was now a killer because she hadn't fulfilled her job requirements.
But that wasn't going to happen again. Squaring her shoulders she walked up the stairs and into the waiting room, stopping slightly at the sound of voices. Was it a time to interrupt? Then she heard Antipov yelling.
"Maybe I should come back later..." She muttered.
"Then things should obviously change," Dr. Beckham said, perfectly mild, but there were two bright spots of colour in his cheeks. "Considering that wasn't the fatality the bond of honorary Fleet personnel? I'm a doctor, Director. In my opinion, we should give all of the juvenile feien the same level of care we give the Fleet ones!"
Realizing they weren't alone, Beckham toned down his rising volume, and rubbed his temples as he glanced woefully at Ice. Then he smiled at Galatea. "Just keep yourself safe."
Antipov huffed with displeasure but silenced himself. "You'll note that the locals come and go at all hours; since the security personnel are always here we saw no reason to limit access," he said.
***
Hadrian was still in the habit of feeling quite out of place in the 'headquarters', but regardless it seemed quite difficult to actually speak to other feien if he was to avoid it. It seemed fairly unlikely that you might run into another feien anywhere but their own home or this lounge area.
Encouraged by the other feien's presence, Hadrain failed to really pay much attention as he trundled into the room, and so ended up stumbling right into a shouting match. He stopped dead at the site of Antipov - whom he had not met and suspected by his tone of voice that he did not WISH to meet...
Lorelei skittered back and away from the door when Ice walked in. Really, she ought to be a bit more careful, she thought to herself. She was quite small in comparison to.. most everything and everyone else, and therefore could be easily stepped on.
She made a face at that. What a sucky way to die! She snickered at that despite herself and took to the air to avoid being trampled should more human-sized people decide to enter the building.
The yelling startled her a bit, but she decided that if they were all busy yelling at each other, no one would bother her if she headed towards the lounge.
She did just that and inadvertantly trailed after the other Feien that flew by. She hadn't seen him before!
***
"Of course." Galatea's little face glowed with honest eagerness. "I will. The Captain has allowed me to learn many things already and I do not fear any danger if I am with her. She is strong." As if repeating it again and again was some sort of rosary for her.
Serafima scowled at Beckham. "I would appreciate it if you did not treat her like an infant," she said cooly. "If you believe they are living beings with emotions and brains, then kindly act as if she has enough self-preservation to protect herself."
"It's not a case of believe, Captain, it's a case of cold hard fact," Beckham said, trying to not get angry again. "Galatea is a child. Treat her with dignity and respect, but let her play. I gave you a manual on child-rearing. You'll make your own judgements as to what to apply and what not, but please do read it."
"I did. I found it to be full of useless, soft psychobabble."
Galatea bit her lip and suddenly launched herself from her bond's shoulder to land on Dr. Beckham's and tugged gently at his ear. "Please, sir," she whispered. "She does take care of me. I eat well and have nice things."
Antipov reached up and pressed a finger against his temple, which was a polite way of informing other Fleet members that you were accessing a neural net link. "Ice," he called out, turning to look down the hall towards the waiting room. "How fortuitous to find you here."
Ice sighed, wishing she could pass the group as easily as the feien had. They were arguing over things she didn't really want to comment on, but she couldn't help herself.
"Silva killed a juvenile because he was the one that was poisoning all of the others. Just because they're younger doesn't mean they're true children." She said softly.

Hadrian backpeddled quickly once he realised what he'd gotten himself into, inadvertantly backing into Lorelei who had been following him. Given that he had been back up rather quickly, he bumped into her rather hard, and he tumbled a bit, letting out a little startled yelp.
Raphael frowned slightly as the voices began to quiet. He had been on a late-night walk-home with Magiale when he'd noticed feien, and even a human, entering the HQ. Magiale had immediately told him to go and check it out on his own. She had been yawning.
The yellow feien silently peered at the one-way window before letting himself in. The place appeared to be rather lively, at least liveliest he'd ever seen it. He followed quietly behind Lorelei, wincing when Hadrian bumped into her.
Lorelei squealed and landed with a tumble to the ground when Hadrian backed into her. She flushed a bit, if only because of the noise she had just made was a bit unlike her normal self. She brought herself to her a feet and a flexed out her wings to check for damage, and thankfully found nothing but a mild bruise that stung only a little.
Her hands and knees were a tad scraped, though, but it was to be expected with how she landed. She blinked a bit owlishly and glanced towards the other Feien. "You alright?" she asked quietly.
Her attention turned away from the other Feien and landed on Raphael. "Oh. Hello," she murmured in greeting with a small wave as she blushed faintly as she was fairly certain he'd seen her rather ungraceful fall.
The traffic cone colored feien spun around rapidly to help Lorelei up, looking incredibly contrite. He was so concerned that he might have hurt her, that he forgot entirely that he was trying to remain quiet and unnoticed. "Oh no! I'm sorry! I didn't see you. Are YOU alright?!" He said, crouching next to her and looking really very sorry. At least this seemed to indicate that he was fine.
Raphael blushed in return, partly because he felt like he was being stared at, with all these people everywhere. "Hello," he said with a friendly smile, directing it also towards Hadrian. He was now close enough to be audible by the other Feien, though still a safe distance away from them.
***
Dr. Beckham turned to see Ice, expression clearing, sidestepping neatly the rather uncomfortable topic of the poisoning. "You must be Silva's bond, then?" he said, and held out his hand. "How's he clearing up? And little Ruby Soho, and Aleric? I'm not worried about Silva, that old man was a fighter."
Flushing at the new arrivals, Galatea attempted to hide in Dr. Beckham's sadly too-short hair. Warily, she stared at Ice with big eyes before glancing at the smaller shapes in the distance which could only be feien like her.
"I am." Ice said with a shrug as she took the hand. "They're pretty much fully recovered, actually. They just left on a quest with a... friend of mine." She shook and let go. "But you shouldn't think of juvenile feien as true children. Silva never was. But that doesn't mean you can't let them have fun, right?"
Or learn to kill... She smiled at Antipov. "It's good to see you again, Antipov."
"My Verine was never a quavering, weeping little child either," said Antipov. "She has always held herself with the highest decorum possible. I am of the opinion that how our feien acts is a reflection upon ourselves. Ice, this is Dr. Beckham and Captain Rabik, and the captain's feien Galatea." He indicated each with his hand.
"I'm sure she does," Dr. Beckham murmured to the arrival hanging on his head, not looking all that worried at the prospect. "And you have a responsibility to get her well. Just don't be afraid to meet others and make friends and relax. You may have noticed that your Captain, ahem, doesn't relax."
He shook Ice's hand firmly as they let go. "It's a case of growth, I suppose. The pretty little miss currently decorating my hairstyle is just out of the bloom, so slightly more a child than, say, young Lorelei might be over there. However, you're right. Fun is the most important! But it doesn't mean you should over-tax a juvenile, or expect things out of them that you wouldn't from the human equivalent of their age."
Ice nodded at them each in turn, her eyes falling on Galatea. "My Soho's not much older than you. She would probably love to meet you sometime when she gets back. She loves meeting new people." And she would be the fun they were talking about, hopefully.
Serafima nodded and offered a hand to Ice. "It is nice to meet you," she said mildly, her tone suggesting that she was not yet certain of the factuality of the statement but willing to give it a go for propriety's sake. "Soho would be your feien then?"
Daring to poke her head out at the doctor's reassurance, Galatea observed the other woman and offered a faint smile. "Hello," she whispered.
***
"I'm fine, really," Lorelei replied as she ran a hand through her hair in an unconscious, nervous gesture. He had just startled her a bit, but that was all. She didn't say that out loud, but it was clearly written across her face despite her attempts to hide it.
"Uhm.." she began, "I.. suppose we could all continue towards the lounge?" She glanced towards the larger figures down the hallway, peering at them curiously. "To stay out of the way, of course." She still wasn't too keen on being trampled by large human feet.
Her interest in the group of humans reached it's peak, however, when Dr. Beckham said her name.
Raphael also looked curious. "I wonder what they're talking about?" He could hear them well enough. He had the ears for it, after all. He just couldn't really understand the conversation.
"Excellent question," Lorelei murmured faintly as she continued to gaze at the group intently. She was curious as to what was going on herself. Curiosity was always something she battled with, though.
Hadrian looked releaved and smiled warmly, at both Lorelei and the yellow feien who had come up from behind her. He offered Lorelei a hand up and introduced himself to both of them, "I'm Hadrian. Sorry I bumped into you..." he grinned self conciously, "The shouting startled me a bit."
He privately agreed that they should definitely continue towards the lounge out of the way of whatever was going on. Hadrian had been travelling when the Fleet had taken things over, and he was still very unsettled by the change.
He nodded to the orange feien and flew a little closer to properly introduce himself. "It's nice to meet you, Hadrian. I'm Raphael." He looked about absently. "Which way is the lounge, again?"
She nodded towards Hadrian in agreement, though her attention was focused elsewhere for the most part. "Yes.. let us continue on."
Hadrian frowned very slightly at Lorelei and withdrew his offered hand after it was clear she wasn't going to accept it. He seemed to have to worst luck with offering to join hands with Feien that didn't find it appropriate. Instead of risking it with Raphael, he nodded to him.
"Nice to mee you. Its...uhm..." the fire feien turned in a small circle to get his bearings and pointed, "There."
Raphael took Hadrian's hand with a smile and a blush. He turned around to look at the lounge. "Ah...should we go there?"
"Yes," Lorelei spoke up before blinking and looking a bit abashed, "I mean.. I'm going to head there." She wasn't meaning to sound bossy. She smiled faintly and took to the air with only a slight wince. She'd see about healing it once she'd found a place to settle in the lounge.
"If you'd like too." Hadrian said to Raphael, a bit uncertainly. He didn't like to admit he was nervous, "I think...I might prefer to be out of the way."
"Alright," Raphael said, though he didn't want to be the first one to move towards the lounge, though both of the other feien seemed to want to go there. He seemed nervous too, if just because the red tinge hadn't left his cheeks yet. He pointed his wings towards the lounge.

"I have three, actually. Silva, who we've talked about already, Aleric, who's an ancient, and Ruby Soho. She's a juvenile. My only girl." She looked very proud of them, and it showed in her tone.
Gingerly, Galatea ventured further out from the protection of Dr. Beckham's hair to squint at Ice. "Do you think she would like to meet me, ma'am?" she asked carefully. "Dr. Beckham says I should meet people and the Captain has suggested the same." In different manners, of course, but Ice didn't need to know that.
"You'd like Ruby Soho," Beckham informed Galatea heartily. "She's very charming. One of my best patients."
"I think she would love to." Ice replied with a wide grin. "Soho's a friendly little thing. And Silva won't be a problem, I promise. He actually has a soft spot for little girls." (Which made you wonder why she had to assure that fact first thing) She looked up at Beckham. "You know her?"
"I had the pleasure of being able to nurse her before her release," Beckham informed Ice, wincing more than a little at Antipov's faux pas. "A bit off-colour, of course, but a more cheerful young lady you couldn't hope to meet. She could help let Galatea's hair down." He actually turned his head to wink a bit at the juvenile. "It's very pretty hair."
Feeling mildly unnecessary, Antipov clapped his hands together. "Right," he said, turning on his heel and heading into the kitchen. "I'm getting a drink." Let the doctor say what he would about that.
"You're going to kill your liver," was all was called after Antipov.
"Of course I won't," came Antipov's pert reply from around the door. "My nan--"
And he abruptly stopped in mid-sentence as he realized what he was about to say. Thankfully he was out of Serafima's sight so he could cringe openly at the mistake. It was fairly obvious, at least to the Fleet personnel, that had been about to say the word "nanos."
Military training being what it was, Serafima did not react in the slightest to Antipov's slip and merely continued to focus on Ice. "Why would you want to bond three feien?" she asked. "Doesn't it take too much of your time?"
Galatea turned a confused gaze up at Dr. Beckham's face. "Sir?" she asked, voice weak with uncertainty. "I thought you liked my hair in a tail down my back. The Captain says it is a very sensible hairstyle. But... Would it be better down all the way? Would Miss Soho prefer that?"
"Your hair is beautiful no matter how you have it," Beckham assured her. "It's just an expression."
"That she is." Ice drawled in response to Beckham, trying not to laugh. She glanced over at Serafima, contemplating the question. "They're not really like having kids. More like housemates. Aleric and Silva spend most of their time training or reading or hunting while Soho spends her time listening to the radio or reading fairy tales." She said with a shrug. She choked at Galatea's question.
"It's a figure of speech, hon. It means relaxing and being comfortable." She said with a little smile. "I think your hair looks great on you, too."
"A silly expression," Serafima reassured her feien. "Your hair is very sensible, Galatea. It suits you and your life."
Galatea beamed at the combined approval, face lighting up for the first time since landing on Gaia. The look was shared with Ice in a burst of boldness. "I look forward to meeting Miss Soho," she announced.
Seeing as how he'd gotten away with it (even if he felt somewhat guilty) Antipov opened the fridge and rummaged around before finally settling on a beer and returning to the hallway, twisting the cap off as he went. "Long hair isn't sensible," he said, stepping back into the conversation. "The captain is right."
"Well Soho might want to play with it." Ice said thoughtfully. "But not because it doesn't look good. She just likes doing those sort of things. It drives Silva crazy, Silva doesn't do much with his hair... of course, Silva doesn't have much hair to do anything with to begin with." She said. A bit of where Soho got her ditzyness was showing through. Where Silva got his personality she wasn't showing, though.
"And if she knew about you she'd look forward to it, too. But she's got long hair." She glanced over at Antipov, trying not to laugh. "Then again nothing about Soho is sensible."
"Nonetheless, it's surely very feminine," said a new and rather familiar voice, prim as ever; Burgundia, on Rose's shoulder for once. Dee looked as if she was just getting used to take up more of her bond's shoulder; Rose looked as though she was half-asleep. "God forbid, there's nothing wrong with being a woman, Director. And Ruby's surely a very pretty one."
"Is the Doctor in?" said her bond, who was wearing rather less pink and more dark blue. She also looked rather glazed. "Would you pass on a book, Director? Dee wanted to pass on 'Sutras From The Koran'. Oh. There's our new arrival. I'll just pop the book by his coffee machine, shall I?" Looking like the walking dead, Rose shambled off again past Ice and Serafima and Beckham.
"Rose," said Antipov carefully, studying the woman with suspicion. Nodding his head in apology to his companions, he said, "Excuse me a moment," and followed Rose into the kitchen.
Galatea blinked at the sudden appearance and subsequent disappearance of feien and bond and then fidgeted with her ponytail. "I... That is, feminine is acceptable, I suppose." She refocused on Ice and tilted her head. "Soho and Silva and Aleric," she repeated slowly. "I will remember those names."
Serafima shot Beckham a sharp glance and it clearly meant "what the hell is wrong with -that- one?" also clearly meaning Rose.
Beckham, in response to Serafima's look, winced again: he gave the universal hand gesture that in most circles meant tell you about it later. It was probably the friendliest they'd been towards each other.
"Well, it seems like you've already made a friend, when Soho comes back," he said to Galatea. "And you can see that there are many other juveniles you might like to get to know."
"She's very feminine." Ice said. The gray female had to have been Dee... Aleric had told her about her, and Soho went on constantly about her sister. But she was gone before Ice could talk to her. "It's a nice change after so many males."
She glanced over at Beckham, then back at Galatea. "And some adults, as well. Aleric always makes for a good friend."
"Then I shall look forward to meeting them all." Galatea paused and then gave Beckham a slightly pained look. "You aren't sending me away, are you?"
Serafima sighed and lifted her hand. "Galatea, why don't you come here and stop hanging from Dr. Beckham." Immediately, the little feien pushed off the doctor's shoulder and fluttered to land on her bond's hand. "There. Much better."
"I'll be coming back to visit you often," Beckham promised. "I think I do definitely need to visit Gaia more. I am the head of the Feien health department, you know. Actually, we created the title just for me - don't worry, Serafima, I don't mind her; Astru likes sitting in the same spot."
"Oh... great, I completely forgot--" Ice said, shaking her head. "I need to tell Dee something before she leaves. I'll be right back." She said as she headed for the kitchen, hesitating at the door.
She didn't want to walk in on Antipov and Dee's bond having a private conversation. Perhaps, she thought, I should wait for her to come out...
Serafima studied her feien for a moment and then turned her dark-eyed gaze on the doctor once more. "I appreciate your kindness to Galatea, doctor, but you shouldn't let her take liberties." There was something almost like dark humor that twitched her thin mouth then. "After all, you said she should stay with me in order to better bond."
As if responding to an inner cue, Galatea ducked a bow at Beckham. "I'm sorry for taking advantage of your kindness, sir," she murmured. "But I am very grateful for it."
Dr. Beckham's mouth twitched at Serafima. They were, looking at each other, obvious and patent adversaries. Hartley would have had a field day by now.
"I'm so glad to see you taking my advice," he said to her, very nearly dryly, un-Beckhamish. "It makes me happy as your practicioner." Then he cheered up, his usual warm tones: "Don't worry about it, Galatea."
Galatea flickered a bright, shy smile at Beckham's words. Then she adjusted her footing as Serafima moved her back to her shoulder and sank into a sitting position. The captain's eyes did not leave the doctor's even as she murmured, "Perhaps you should introduce yourself to the others, Galatea. They are, after all, your kind. It would make Doctor Beckham happy if you could make friends."
"Wise words," Beckham murmured, somehow in the direction of Serafima.
Looking decidedly torn, Galatea worried at the end of her ponytail. Clearly, she was in no rush to leave Beckham and her bond but it was hard disobeying a direct order. Finally, biting back a tiny sigh, she stood and nodded. "Yes, ma'am," she murmured. "Sir." Then she paused and gave Beckham an openly adoring look. "You will visit the Captain and me?"

A little shop RP - compiled by ShortGreen <3 .[ From One Shop to Another - continued ]. "... so."
"So."
Kojak held back the urge to roll his eyes, instead focusing on sucking one of the lollipops Wren had a large amount of. They were left overs from Halloween and had this odd taste that ... took some getting use to. But now that he was use to it, he couldn't get enough of them.
Probably had to do with the sweet tooth he had. Though, really, Halo was sweet to have shrunk the things down after he swiped some from Wren to have. Strictly speaking, however, thievery was bad. Just not when it was from Wren and it involved suckers.
"It's better," Kojak finally said to Wren as the approached the fleet building and before they went inside, "that I get you to take me."
"Why?" Head twisting, Wren peered at his feien curiously as he used his hand to twist open the door knob.
"That way I don't have to deal with your attempts at stalking me." That charming smile was in place and Wren faltered for a moment, response dead on his lips, before he just scowled at Kojak.
"I am not a stalker," he hissed out as they entered.
"Overprotective. Obsessive-compulsive. Worrisome. Irritant. Take your pick, Wren." Kojak's smile turned devious for a moment, before shifting back into that cool look of his. "But really, you're all of those things."
"Whatever." Wren shook his shoulders enough that Kojak went tumbling off. The feien rolled in the air, falling towards the ground, before he finally lifted himself up in flight.
"Maturity is a problem for your kind, isn't it?" Kojak smiled kindly, hovering in the air in front of Wren's face, before twisting around. He looked around briefly before focusing on the sign that directed towards the lounge. It had, before he focused on Wren again, looked like there were others heading that direction. He was long over do for some socializing outside of those at the house.
Rurik did NOT count, but Valsharess was good company.
... though, there looked like there were others trying to head that direction too. Smile in place and totally collected, Kojak headed towards the other feien and the lounge.
Wren was just shaking his head, muttering something under his breath, and listening to the tell tale voices of others in the building that were bound to be people that weren't feien. Hands shoving into his pockets, he moved forward and busied himself with looking about the reception area. It had been far too long since he had been anywhere near here.
Lorelei made it to the lounge just as another person walked in, accompanied by yet another Feien. It was the livliest she'd ever seen the HQ since she had been bonded to Athan. She smiled faintly at that as she landed on the arm of a couch and settled herself there.
It would make for a very entertaining evening, but first, she needed to heal the bruise on her wing. Flying with it aching was a bit of a nuisance she could easily do without.
***
Unfortunately, Hadrian didn't seem to want to be the first one to move either. There was an odd pause as both feien waited for the other to go first. The moment was broken by Burgundia's voice, which was quite unmistakable. It drew Hadrian's attention, although he wasn't sure if he was relieved to see someone he knew or not. The fire feien turned back to Raphael and laughed brightly, "Right...shall we ACTUALLY go this time?" He gave a little jump, to flutter in the air, drifting slowly in the direction of the lounge - though still facing Raphael.
Raphael started slightly, then smiled himself. "Yeah..." He looked a little embarassed. He flew past Hadrian, perhaps a bit faster than he might have intended. "Have you been here often?" Raphael asked rather casually, if a bit stiffly, practicing his Small Talk ability.
"Nope, just once." Hadrian said, catching up with Raphael easily. If there was one thing Hadrian didn't need, it was practice talking. He seemed cheerfully ready to chat about anything. He could use some practice with the idea of 'quiet indoor voice' though... "What about you?" He didn't seem to consider Raphael not knowing where the lounge was any kind of indication of the amount of time the other feien spent there.
Raphael nodded at Hadrian as they entered the lounge. "I've been here..." he had to think on it. "Not very often," he answered sheepishly.
Lorelei kept to herself as she healed the bruise on her wing. It wasn't much, but she could at least heal small scrapes. That particular talent was helpful when she was exploring the house, but she wanted to become stronger so she wouldn't have to worry or fret over little bruises.
She pouted faintly at that thought until she realized what she was doing and forced herself to stop. Weren't those other two Feien going to come to the lounge, too? "Ahh well," she said aloud with a shrug of her shoulders. She could at least hang out for a while. Flying back to Twilight Designs didn't exactly sound appeasing, anyway.
The two feien Lorelei had been thinking of arrived in the lounge in very short order. Raphael however, seemed to immidiately lose interest in conversation, and instead found a comfortable place to doze off.
Hadrian hung about near the doorway. He waved cheerfully at Lorelei, but wasn't entirely sure where he stood with her, given her previous reaction to him.

Rose was already clattering around in the kitchen, putting the textbook next to M's horrible coffee maker. "I don't know why she wants to give it to him," she said, still in that funny high voice, when Antipov came in. "It'll only start an argument."
"I feel it'll surely be enlightening," Dee said, not sounding too upset at the comment. "Everyone needs a little God in their life. As for arguing, well, I've never backed down from one yet. I'm not inclined to fear, Momma."
"The Captain looks forbidding, doesn't she," Rose carried on. "Djerod said she was a little distant. Well, just make sure he sees it, Director, I'll be off again. I have a bit of the flu, I'll have to introduce myself to the Captain later."
"Wait a minute," said Antipov, discarding his beer onto the kitchen counter. "What on earth are you doing on your feet with the flu? Djerod let you out of the house like this?" Since the Director of Science wasn't in the room, Antipov could get away with using his first name.
Actually, he was getting away with an awful lot tonight.
"Dee, sweetie, why don't you go and wait in the front room?"
After a few moments' hesitation, Burgundia left. Rose continued patting the book in place, as if that would make it more easily viewable.
"It's not bad flu," she said vaguely. "Just... Flu; I just wanted to get out of the house for a moment. Mild curiosity about Captain Rabik. Maybe. She's very pretty. Reminds me of... Oh, I don't know. I escaped past Djerod, anyway. I've probably been getting on his nerves. And that sounds terribly martyr-y. It's a terrible crush tonight, isn't it? I'd better get going. Say hello to everyone for me, Director."
Since there was no door on the kitchen, it wasn't as if their conversation was entirely private. Antipov held up his hands. "Wait, wait. Sit down and have some tea."
He could just hear Djerod's ire at Rose walking around like this in the HQ. Since she was here, he was going to send her back in good condition so at least he could argue that he hadn't been completely heartless and kicked her out into the snow.
He pulled out one of the kitchen chairs. "Sit down? Please?" And my, he hadn't lost his touch from his days in Moscow.
"Ple-a-se don't be nice to me." It came out as more of an exhale. "Well - I mean - that sounds awful, but say something acerbic, Director. Anything else and I'll scream out loud. It does mean a lot to me for you to be sweet; I'll tell Djerod, how sweet you were. I should just get home to him now. I don't have the flu; not really. You know I don't. I just... There's so many people here, aren't there? I didn't expect this many. I'm hopeless at the moment, Director. And I mean more than usual. Make sure M gets the book, Dee'll be disappointed if he doesn't."
And so Antipov was acerbic; with a twist of his mouth into a frown he reached out and grabbed Rose by the arm. No, he hadn't lost his touch since Moscow -- and that included his less savory doings. "Into my office. Now." It was clearly not a request.
"Shouldn't you be with the Fleet officer?" It was the only card she had; Rose, otherwise, just looked resigned to being dragged to his office.
Without another word, Antipov dragged Rose after him into his office and closed the door behind them.

"Dee?" Ice asked as she caught sight of the gray feien coming out. "You're Burgundia, right? Soho's sister?"
The Cold feien paused, alighting delicately down on a table near Ice; she eyed her for a few moments before realizing who she was, dipping into a pretty and languid curtsey, fastidiously smoothing her black cloth back around her knees as she straightened.
"You're her bond," Dee said. "I'm most pleased to finally get to meet you, ma'am. Ruby is indeed my precious li'l sister, truth be told."
"She loves you a lot. Always talking about you. And she gave me this letter--" She said, digging into her pockets and pulling out a feien sized note and handing it to her.
Dear Dee
I'm going to New Yor with Mister Silva Demon and Aleric. I'm actually going to have an adventure of my own! And when I get back I promise, promise, promise I'll tell you ALL about it! Love you!! Ruby Soho
"She told me to find you." Ice said. "And now I have!"
Burgundia read the letter about three times. An unusual and extremely bright smile came over her; she looked up to Ice, and sighed.
"I do suppose she had to have an adventure sometime," Dee said. "Cousin Silva better bring her back in one piece, or there'll be hell to pay. Thank you kindly, with all my heart. This means a lot to me."
"He will. He always does." Ice said with a grin. "And just in case I sent an amazon with them." Her grin turned wicked. "Never trust a man to do a woman's work, ne? But I should get going. I'm hoping they'll call me tonight. It was nice meeting you, Dee."
"The pleasure was all mine," Dee said sincerely. "You take care of yourself."
"And you." Ice said as she headed for the waiting area. She nodded at Beckham and the Captain. "I should get going. It was nice to meet you both." She said with a nod before heading towards the door. "And Galatea? A map to my house is on the desk over there if you want to come over. Anytime."
"Often." Dr. Beckham gave Galatea his warmest smile. "I'll be here to see how you're getting on and how the Captain is healing up."
He turned to give a nod of farewell to Ice. "Nice meeting you," he said.
"Oh!" Galatea quickly turned to bow at the retreating Ice. "Thank you, ma'am," she replied. "I will try to send word ahead of time. I don't wish to inconvenience you but I would very much like to meet Soho and the others." Which was a bit of a fib but she wanted to try, at least, for Serafima and Beckham's sakes.
Ice just grinned and waved as she headed down the stairs. She might have been lying, but it didn't matter. Soho and she would hit it off fast enough, she could almost tell.
***
Athan muttered darkly under his breath, grumbling to himself about one thing or another as he entered the Feien HQ. It was always something. Always. That thought made the scowl on his face darken somewhat. All he was there to do was to retrieve his Feien, but as he headed into the waiting room he stopped dead in his tracks.
His face twitched somewhat, just below his eye. Apparently the day was doomed to end unpleasantly. He gritted his teeth as though bracing himself. Perhaps, he could just... walk around Wren and he wouldn't turn around and notice. Right.
And demons didn't steal souls.
Wren didn't steal souls -- he just ate them. Besides, it wasn't stealing if the people gave them to you! Well, that and it wasn't stealing if the people gave them to you. ( It wasn't his fault that he viewed taking someone's soul as giving it to him. If people didn't want it taken, they would fight for it! Not just let him up and take it and keep it for later consumption. Wren's stomach rumbled slightly. He really could go for a soul about now ... Maybe one of those lollipops from Halloween that tasted like souls might hold him over. Except they were all at home. )
A small pout on his face, Wren twisted around at the sound of the door opening and closing. The pout quickly changed into a wide smile. The kind of smile that so clearly spoke of trouble, especially since fangs were visible. "Athan," he said pleasantly, "fancy seeing you here."
Kojak, meanwhile, was speedily moving along towards the lounge. Well, that is if the rate he moved at could be considered speedy. Not that he couldn't move fast in short bursts, but flight wasn't all ways his specialty. There was a sureness about him, however, in the way he carried himself.
His tail swayed lazily behind him as he entered the lounge, stopping in mid-air, arms folded behind his head and lollipop held loosely between his fingers as he surveyed what was now in front of him as well as the other feien present.
"Indeed," Athan grated out in a low voice as he resisted the urge to fidget nervously. "If.. you'll excuse me," he replied as he made an attempt to step around the demon and head towards the other rooms to see where Lorelei had ventured off to, "I have.. other matters to take care of."
The Feien in question was still sitting on the arm of the couch she had landed on when she'd first entered the lounge. She tilted her head to the side and peered at the new Feien curiously. She hadn't ever met him before. She had already seen so many new faces since she had come to the HQ, that it didn't come as a surprise.
Her attention turned from him towards Hadrian and Raphael briefly. She offered the other Feien a small smile and waved in return. She supposed she ought to introduce herself. She pulled herself to her feet and stretched out her red, bat-like wings.
"I'm Lorelei," she said to both Kojak and Hadrian.
When would Athan learn things were not that easy. Especially when it came to Wren. "You know," Wren said, his tone still light and conversational, "it's a wonder to see you here." That smile on his face and the glint in his eyes was clearly the same as when a cat had just caught a particularly fat canary.
"Oh and I think Hawk's been wanting to see you," he added as an after thought.
Back in the lounge, Kojak's attention shifted from Raphael and Hadrian to Lorelei. ( Though, for some reason, he thought one of the previous two were familiar, but he was likely mistaken. ) Tail curling around his thigh, Kojak flew to the couch and landed on the arm a bit away from Lorelei.
"Kojak," he said with an infectious smile, "a pleasure to meet you." His gaze focused on those present. "All of you."
"Pleasure to meet you...er...or know your name anyway. We already met really." Hadrain said, with a warmth that suggested he was secretly relieved she wasn't upset about being bumped into.
He noticed Kojak somewhat belatedly, mostly only because Lorelei was addressing the newcomer as well. Away from the fleet personel Hadrian was feeling a good deal less concerned, but after two slightly rocky introductions, he decided he might as well wait for the juvenile to introduce himself first.
So it was only after Kojak had spoken, and joined Lorelei on the arm of the sofa, that Hadrian spoke again. "Hadrian. Nice to meet you as well."
Lorelei nodded towards Hadrian, small smile still in place as she tried her best to remain cordial to he and the other Feien that was sitting a little ways away. She hadn't a lot of experience with social gatherings, at least not with her own kind, but she would manage.
"Yes. Nice to meet you, formally, Hadrian.. and Kojak," she answered before wrapping her wings about herself to keep them out of the way.
Athan, on the other hand, wasn't having nearly so good a time. He was trying to avoid being social. He didn't have any desire whatsoever to hold any sort of conversation with the demon. He was mildly thankful Reyna was there. The woman was tolerable alone, but paired with her friend they were .. well.. demons.
"Isn't it though? I do go places every now and then, as shocking as that may be to you," he replied curtly before his features softened for a brief moment at the mention of Hawk. He wanted to ask him how he was, as he had seemed a bit out of sorts last they had met, but he bit his tongue and resisted that urge. He was trying to avoid Wren. Not strike up idle chatter about his Shadow or anything at all for that matter.
"... well, no, I'm a bit shocked you're here of all places. Reyna hadn't mentioned you had a feien all your own," Wren's smile turned to that of bemusement. Athan, clearly, wanted to get out of talking to him and he wasn't going to make it that easy.
It might've been easier if he had just taken the Hawk bait ( or just take Hawk, please ; cranky seers do not make good house residents ), but obviously that wouldn't work. So, another route it was! ( Really, it was bad that he got such joy out of this. At least he was playing nice for now! ... which probably only made Athan more paranoid. Whoops. )
Kojak stretched his arms out, cloth wings ruffling a bit as he did so, before finally popping the lollipop back into his mouth for a moment. There wasn't much left of it anymore.
Hadrian seemed a bit on the nervous side, a little shy, and Lorelei a bit awkward. Maybe things would ease if ... a conversation got going. "It's been a while since I've been here, you know," he said after a moment. "Still not use to the new decor." Kojak chuckled a bit, tail unwrapping from his thigh and swishing back and forth.
Galatea reluctantly fluttered to a rest approximately two feet from the other feien, eyeing them warily. She wanted to go back and sit on her Captain's shoulder very, very badly but that would be disobeying so she couldn't. It would also disappoint Dr. Beckham so that made it twice as worse. For a moment, she studied the three and then, delicately, she coughed.
Perhaps she should have paid more attention to the doctor when he had suggested how to make friends.
Being the only adult in the room...Hadrian was feeling oddly tall. Its curious to feel tall when you are only about the size of beer steine. "This'll be the second time I've been in this room," Hadrian admited, "I think I liked the 'shop' better. Its seemed friendlier somehow."
He turned at the quiet cough, to smile encouragingly at the shy looking Galatea. "Hullo."
"Shocking," Athan answered curtly. Really, it was. He knew how Reyna was, and doing things to spite him was something she couldn't resist. Ever. He sighed and and fidgeted, despite his best efforts, with his pendant as he realized with a sudden clarity there was no escaping Wren. At least not easily.
"Yes," he admitted, "I have a Feien. I am here to retrieve her so that we can go home." And that was it. He was there to fetch her and leave. Not stay and chat.
The flaw in that general plan was that Wren was in his way, and Lorelei had no real interest in leaving at the moment.
"I wouldn't know about the decor. I've only been here a handful of times myself, and wouldn't know what it looked like previously," she admitted, divulging more information that was typical of her nature.
She nodded her head towards the purple Feien in greeting and offered her a small wave. "And you are?" she asked quietly.
Flushing immediately at the attention (though she -did- ask for it), Galatea cut a small, sharp bow. "My name is Galatea, please," she answered. "Captain Rabik and Dr. Beckham told me to come over and meet you all." She paused and smiled shyly. "I am pleased to meet you all."
Lorelei blinked over at her curiously. She had been with the fleet personel that she had been so interested in. It was somewhat tempting to ask her what it was they had been discussing, but didn't really feel it was her place. Not to mention asking a direct question like that wasn't something she'd really do.
"Nice to meet you, too," she replied instead.
... and thus, Wren wins, because Athan can't escape and his feien didn't want to leave and oh boy, the demon got to play with one of his favorite people! Wren did so love talking with Athan.
"Well, if she wanted to leave, she'd be up here, I'm sure. Well, unless she's ot the type to express herself. I mean, Kojak's all ways making sure I know just exactly how he feels." ... or that was probably because he grated Kojak's nerves and the only way to get Wren to leave him alone was to point out the blatantly obvious.
Or insult him with big words. Not that Wren didn't know what those big words meant, but it usually gave Kojak a few seconds to get away while Wren thought of bigger words to throw back. Bless him.
"So when did you get your feien," he asked, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"... first time for me," Kojak offered. Mostly because he hadn't truly come into this place since it opened up besides peeking inside. Generally, his curiousity did not get the better of him, but he had wanted to explore lately. "But I suppose the old place was friendlier. Both places have their own ... feel to them."
Tilting his head, he leaned back to look towards the other feien that entered. Smile still in place, he offered a wave at her. "Hey." There was a brief pause, before he grinned impishly. "You know, if you were told to socialize with the rest of us, you should come on over. I promise we won't bite or anything. We're friendly." He looked towards the other two, as if they'd go along with what he said.
"And my name is Kojak, pleasure to meet you."
Hadrian thought the bowing was a nice touch...although it seemed oddly stiff when the juvenile did it. He had noticed her with the fleet personel before, and wondered a bit a the phrase told me to come meet you. Since it only seemed appropriate...he bowed back.
His bow, of course, wasn't very stiff or formal - it was in fact a bit overdone and foppish. "Hadrian, and its true, I do not bite. Its a pleasure to meet you."
Galatea's eyes roamed from one face to another and then back again in a circuit. "Were you all born here?" she suddenly asked. Then she flushed again and quickly laced her fingers in front of herself to avoid fidgeting. "I'm sorry. That was probably rude of me."
"I said I was coming to retrive her," Athan repeated. He wasn't there to wait until she was ready to go and magically appeared to inform him of such. He was tired. He was cranky. He did not like Wren. Home was where he wanted to be. Not playing games with demons.
"I recieved her... several months ago," he went on with a wave of his hand. He didn't remember how long it had been. She was there. He was stuck with her. End of story.
Lorelei refrained from commenting about whether or not she bit people. She supposed she could if she wanted, and in fact, she'd discussed it briefly with Reyna. She smirked faintly at that, but didn't bother to voice her thoughts aloud.
The subject of her 'birth' she also remained quiet about. She hadn't exactly been delivered to Athan as a bloom. She just sort of.. existed, and it suited her just fine.
"What was the previous HQ like?" Lorelei asked curiously, forgetting herself for a moment. There was just.. something about Kojak that was annoyingly charming and it made her want to talk.
It wasn't rude for any reason Hadrian could see, but it was a bit disconcerting to him anyway. It made perfect sense that feien would be born...elsewhere. But he didn't really know anything about the fleet, and Galatea probably didn't know anything about Gaia. He tried to be encouraging, but he had an open sort of face and his expression faultered even as he spoke.
"Dunno why it would be rude to ask. I was born here."
"Is Gaia nice?" Relieved to not have injured any feelings, Galatea relaxed slightly and a crooked smile was Hadrian's reward for such a gracious answer. "I have only just arrived. I have not even left the shop yet. I don't even know where the Captain and I will live yet either. She hasn't told me."
Definitely a lady in need of some loosening up. Kojak's tail swished back and forth once more. "Born on Gaia, you mean?" Not that Kojak knew where his bloom was born at, he knew he was born on Gaia and the feien that summoned him. It'd be ... interesting to meet his 'father' someday. "Yes, I was." He didn't know about the other two, however.
"... and it wasn't rude," he said, lips quirking up just slightly. "Just curious, aren't you?" That she was asking meant she was likely a Fleet feien like Rurik. "... and, yes, Gaia is rather nice. What I've seen of it, at least. There's a lot out there to explore."
His attention shifted back to Lorelei and he absently ( or it looked like it was absently done ) scratched his cheek in thought. "Suppose it seemed a bit more cluttered, to me at least. Not as organized as this place is. Friendlier like Hadrian said, I suppose."
Wren just shook his head, tail finally uncurling from around his angle and waving back and forth in the air in tune with his mischievous mood. "Really? I've had Kojak for just over a year now. He was a Christmas gift, actually. Kind of like Hawk was."
At that, Wren just stared blatantly at Athan, before continuing on. "Though, Kojak's likely met your feien if she's here and he's here. Deities know where he got off too." Not that he cared, he knew Kojak could take care of himself. But, you know, he was overprotective.
"Gaia is quite nice. But I've found that most places are, in fact." He smiled, warmer now, as if encouraged by Galatea's own smile. "I suppose," He added, warming to Kojak's description of the old shop, "I like clutter. But it wasn't just that you know. It was the sort of clutter. There were odd ancient things in the corners, and books covered in dust, and odds and ends you would have to search for to find. And it felt warm...for some reason. All wood and cloth and clutter."
"Hm.. sounds like my bonded's house.. but.. I don't know if you could call it at all friendly," she murmured as she rested her chin in one hand as she contemplated over that. It was cluttered and a bit of a mess, but it seemed to be more of an organized mess than anything.
"I don't recall being a Christmas gift," Athan chuckled, but there was nothing good natured about how he laughed, "And speaking of Christmas gifts, did you get yours?" He smirked broadly at that and once more crossed his arms over his chest, simply waiting for the demon's next remark.
"... well, if you say it like that, Hadrian, it was like an organized mess." Which was, he thought, something that's a sign of genius. Or had he read that somewhere? Kojak mentally chuckled to himself, before nodding in agreement with Hadrian. "But, yes, I was thinking the same thing. It was warm. Cozy." There was a brief pause. "Not that this place isn't, but it'll take some getting use too."
"... Athan," Wren's smile turned a bit too friendly and potentially dangerous for the man. "Just be happy I don't know the location of your house. Or that I'm on my best behavior, otherwise you would've been pelted with several pieces of coal all ready. I was a good demon this year, I'll have you know."
"This... This isn't the place that has always been here?" Galatea frowned, trying to piece together the hints. It seemed as if they were saying that the Fleet hadn't always been on Gaia but that was silly. The Fleet were marvelous. Why wouldn't they be -everywhere-? Why shouldn't they be?
Athan snorted a bit indignantly. "Don't tell me you actually believed that was truly a piece of coal." He laughed again and idly pushed his hair out of his face, "I hope you didn't toss it out. It was really quite valuable." Really, he was just amused he had managed to rile the demon. It wasn't the safest or brightest of ideas, but it wasn't the first time he'd done so, either.
Lorelei remained quiet and was content for the moment to simply listen to the other Feien chatter on about the previous shop. She almost wished she had been around to see it. It sounded interesting and would've been terribly fun to explore.
"No, it's not. There was another place before this one. Before the Fleet took over everything." Kojak shifted, tail lazily coiling back around his thigh before unwrapping just as fast. He was tempted to fly up towards the back of the couch and have a seat there instead of standing.
"Oh, no, I kept it." Mostly out of spite. "And I somehow doubt that ANY gift you give me is truly what it appears to be." Wren snorted, folding his arms behind his head and tail twitching in slight irritation before slowly relaxing. "I learned my lesson with the Hawk's Eye gemstone that you gave me that wasn't really a gemstone."
"I see." The little blood feien nodded solemnly. "That was very nice of them, then. The Fleet does good work. This place seems nice." She paused and then, more shyly, added, "You all seem nice, too."
Hadrian had been hoping someone would explain it a bit better. He still wasn't entirely sure what had happened when the Fleet took over everything. But he nodded in agreement with Kojak anyway, "Hasn't been that long ago really."
"You seem nice too." Hadrian said to Galatea, pleasantly. He was thinking that possibly the Fleet did do some 'good work' anyway...
"Do you come here often, Mr. Hadrian?" Feeling more at ease from the warm reception by the others, Galatea padded her way across the cushions to stand close to the other three feien. "Is your bond here as well? Are they as nice as you are and as strong as my Captain?"
"... well, yes," Kojak said slowly, before just smiling and going on. "They rebuilt when the old feien place was destroyed." So it was nice of them -- even if there was more behind it in the end. They didn't have to rebuild it and let them come in or let their bonded in.
"Thank you. You seem rather sweet yourself." Kojak winked at Galatea, though it seemed like flirting, it was mostly harmless.
Lorelei smiled at the other girl faintly before rising to her feet. "I agree. You all are very nice, but.. I think I ought to be going now," she replied, smile still in place. She glided off the couch and away from the other Feien with a wave over her shoulder. Really, she'd like to stay longer but she was rather tired from flying all the way to the shop by herself earlier. Perhaps, she ought to have had Athan bring her instead.
She frowned slightly at that thought but looked a bit surprised when she entered the waiting room to find her bonded already standing there. And he did not at all look pleased. For a moment she thought perhaps he was irritated with her, but upon closer inspection it was obvious he was irritated with the shorter man that he was speaking with.
"Oh good. It would be a shame for such a lovely gem to go to waste," Athan replied smoothly as Lorelei landed upon his shoulder and settled herself into the folds of his robes near his neck, "And I do mean, that. I even promise it won't awaken into some sort of creature and attach itself to you."
Lorelei arched a brow and glanced up at Athan. What was going on, exactly?
"I intend to start coming here often." Hadrian said, "But I've been travelling for awhile, and this is only the second time I've been in here." Close up, the orange feien actually felt warm, even from a comfortable distance away. It matched his smile. "And I don't travel with my bond much, and I don't know about your Captain, but I'm glad to have my bond and I hope your's is as nice."
He waved after Lorelei, calling goodbye after her.
"Good night, Lorelei!" With a wave of his hand, Kojak watched Lorelei leave. He should consider leaving soon himself. He hadn't thought about spending a lot of time here, but the company was nice.
Dear sweet not so merciful deities. Athan had given him another gem. What the hell was wrong with the man? Did he think he could spite him by giving him a gift? "... somehow, I believe you. I don't think you'd risk bonding another to me, least it actually make good on it's threats of -- well, no. If it put me out of your misery, I'm sure that'd do you some good." Wren snorted, eyes drifting to the feien that entered the scene.
"Still, don't worry. I've got the perfect gift in mind for you. I just have to pick it up at some point." Wren smiled benignly. "You'll love it, I promise."
Eyes lighting up, Galatea nodded. "Oh, she is so smart and strong and clever," she answered Hadrian, "and she... Oh. Oh, dear." Suddenly, she looked pained and turned on her heel to wave forcefully at the long-disappeared female feien. "Oh. She's gone." Turning back to the others, her face looked glum enough to summon a rainstorm. "That was rude of me. She was so fast, though. I will have to apologize when next I see her." She looked to the remaining two for reassurance. "That would be alright, wouldn't it? Mr. Hadrian? Mr. Kojak?"
"I don't think most people get to upset over apologies, but they might say they're unecessary sometimes." Hadrian answered, "But I bet she won't be to worried about it."
Galatea seemed so....young. Younger then the other juveniles he'd met. It was making him feel sort of ... would paternal apply to a feien? Well, it reminded him of Burgundia's request that he teach other feien. Not that he thought he was any good at it, or had much to teach really.
Kojak merely chuckled. "My bonded is ... nice and probably a bit different from what you'd expect. He is intelligent, I'll give him that, but very protective of his charges." And short, don't forget short.
"I'm sure it'll be all right, Galatea. I don't think she'll mind, especially if you apologize next time. If you even need too." Kojak smiled widely, assuringly. "When people have to leave, you don't all ways get time to say goodbye." Galatea was a bit ... naive, all most. In a way that he couldn't remember being himself. He had all ways been mature. More mature than his bonded, even. Or that was how he thought of it.
Whatever amusement might have been written across Athan's features vanished, but it wasn't replaced with a scowl or anything of that sort. He remained calm, and collected despite how frazzled he felt. "Just remember it's the thought that counts," he replied before turning on his heel to leave.
"I'll tell Reyna you said hello, and good evening to you, Wren," he called over his shoulder as he left in a flurry of dark robes. His Feien was back into his care, and he therefore had absolutely no reason to stay. He allowed a small smile at that.
Time to go home!
"You are both right, I'm sure," she agreed with another of her curious quick nods. "Some things happen very fast." Then she offered Kojak a crooked smile. "I don't think, though, that there is anything wrong with being protective of those you care about. I don't want anything to happen to my Captain, after all. Which would make me protective, too. Your bond sounds very nice."
"You're right, of course." With a bemused smile of his own, he nodded in agreement with Galatea. "I wouldn't want anything to happen to Wren, but when I was younger, and even now, he doesn't all ways remember that I can take care of myself." Another small pause, before he added. "I'm sure you would like him, if you met him."
And speaking of Wren, he actually pushed the scowl off his face at Athan's exit and wandered his way towards the lounge. "Kojak? Oi, know you wanted to visit, but unless you want to head out on your own later, we should probably get home."
"Speaking of my bonded," Kojak said with a small laugh, "that's him."
Immediately responsive, Galatea turned at Kojak's words to bow to Wren. "Hello, sir. It is a pleasure to meet you."
It was endearing, the way Galatea refered to her bond as 'her Captain'. It reminded Hadrian a little bit of his own tendancy to refer to his bond as his mother. He was enjoying the company, but it was getting quite late. He had a fairly long flight home, and honestly he really did want to spend the night at home tonight and not camping out. He'd been working on his little lantern house a bit and was just a bit excited to spend the night in it.
"Its been a pleasure to meet both of you, but its gotten quite late." He smiled his wide warm smile at both of them. "I've got a bit of a trip to get home, I'll need to get going if I'm going to get any sleep tonight, unfortunately."
He waved, "Goodnight, Galatea. Kojak." He made sure, specifically, to give Galatea enough time to say goodbye, before flitting out into the night.
Galatea waved energetically to Hadrian, grateful and smiling for his kindess at allowing her a proper goodbye. As she turned back to Kojak and his bond, though, her ears perked up at a voice in the hallway.
"Galatea? Where are you? The Doctor has left me with more instructions and that includes seeing that you get enough sleep." Serafima appeared at the door with her hand held out, palm up. She glanced at Wren and nodded curtly in greeting. Then she glanced back to her little charge and raised an eyebrow. "Coming?"
"Yes, ma'am." Immediately springing to the air, Galatea fluttered over to land on the offered hand. Then she turned to wave at Kojak. "It was very nice to meet you," she called out. "I hope to see you here again."
Wren's steps all most instantly came to a halt, especially at the way he was greeted. Being called sir was ... like. Odd. Very odd. He blinked, stunned briefly, and barely noticed the other feien leaving as he entered.
"... er, hello," he finally managed, a smile on his face. Reflexively, he moved his hands to push up glasses that were no longer there. He pulled his hand back quickly though, when he caught himself. "Nice to meet you ... ?" Wren trailed off, waiting for the other feien to introduce herself.
Kojak, however, was about to do so. He waved good night to Hadrian, before he spoke up. "Galatea, this is my bonded, Wren. Wren, this is Galatea." He made gestures to both of them while introducing them, smile on his face all the way.
Never mind he did now how Wren reacted to being called sir. He remembered the last time.
"Oh, well, nice to meet a friend of Kojak's." The demon's voice was warm, as he approached the couch, and looked down at the two feien before holding out a hand for Kojak to fly onto.
The feien did, just as Galatea's Captain called.
"Pleasure was all mine," Kojak said simply, smiling as he made his way to Wren's head and settled comfortably against one of his horns for the time being. "It'd be nice to see you again." He would have to make sure and come visit more often. He really did miss meeting other feien. "Good night!" he called to her before both him and Wren made their own way out to go home.
Galatea waved again at the retreating forms and then, obediently, stood at attention for her bond. "Yes, ma'am," she murmured. "Is it time to go to our quarters?"
"Indeed." Serafima lifted her hand to allow Galatea to step off onto her shoulder. "The kind Doctor has finally left, not before giving me a yard of instructions, of course, and the Director had previously given me our quarters. The house is not far." She paused then and seemed to consider something for a long moment. As she thought, she crossed towards the door. Finally, she sighed under her breath. "Hide in my hair, Galatea," she ordered mildly. "I am given to understand that not many Gaians are aware of you and your breed. It would be safest for you to stay out of sight."
A happy smile flickered over the little feien's face before she could once more school her features to dutiful blankness. "Yes, ma'am. I promise. Thank you."
Captain Rabik gave her a moment to secure herself and then, with an inner bracing, she stepped out the door. This was where they were stuck for however long. Then, and -then-, she could return to duty. Somehow, she thought this would please Galatea, too. If not, oh, well.

Gathering a little supplies.. .[ Scavenger]. "Are we leaving yet?" Lorelei piped up as she landed upon Athan's shoulder. She folded her wings about herself and settled herself close to his neck, somewhat hidden by his dark hair. She was feeling rather antsy and wanted out of the house. She had every intention of holding her bonded to his promise to taking her with him to work every day. It was far more entertaining than spending the day alone in Athan's overly large abode. What's more, Reyna was fun to talk to. The fact that her bonded didn't seem to like the woman that much tickled her in a small way as well.
"Yes, yes.. we're leaving now," Athan grumbled under his breath as he shuffled through a stack of papers before grabbing what he needed and dashing out the door. Once outside, it was a simple matter of opening a portal, stepping through, and then entering into the shop via the backdoor.
Almost immediately the small fairy pushed off from Athan's shoulder and flew towards the front room. Athan followed in quick strides to open the door for her but didn't follow after her. He hadn't any interest in dealing with Reyna so very early in the morning. Particularly since he hadn't yet had any coffee.
Lorelei, on the other hand, was quite content to approach the disgruntled demon and did so with a bright smile on her face as she landed upon the woman's desk. Reyna paused for a brief moment and smiled in return as she glanced up from a small amount of paperwork.
"Deciding to make it a habit of visiting me every morning?" she asked, a small amused smile on her face as she idly set down her pen and watched the fairy explore her desk as she was typically wont to do.
"I might," Lorelei replied as she poked through a small desk organizer that had colored paper clips and thumb tacks in it. She picked up a blue paper clip and toyed with it for a moment in silence. The wire was fairly malleable and wasn't too difficult to bend. She glanced up at Reyna who was watching her intently and held up the now ruined paper clip. "Can I.. have some of these?"
"I don't see why not. I've got a couple of boxes of them," Reyna replied, amusement written across her face.
"Cool."
A long span of silence ensued before the demon decided to speak up, curiosity getting the best of her. "What are you going to do with them?"
Lorelei glanced up, eyes wide as though she'd been caught doing something red-handed. "Huh?" she murmured as she paused in her rifling through the items on the desk with a piece of pencil lead in hand.
"The paperclips. What are you going to do with them?"
"Oh," she replied before sitting down atop a rather large stack of sticky notes that were displayed in a spiral, "I don't know yet."
Reyna snickered faintly under her breath. "Okay. Well. Help yourself," she answered before pushing away from the desk to trail into the back room to steal a cup of Athan's coffee for herself. The strong smell of it was terribly tempting, particularly since she had decided to skip breakfast despite Mystic's offer to cook.
The fairy beamed brightly and continued snooping through the various items on Reyna's desk. Perhaps there was something else useful like the paperclips. She'd been contemplating building a small house of some sort, but she'd definately need supplies and a plan before undergoing such a project.
With a grunt of effort she pulled open a small plastic drawer to another organizer and found an unopened package of even smaller sticky notes. They were made to tab pages and the like, but for her, it was the perfect writing tablet. She grinned and set it aside with her pile of paperclips. Reyna had said to help herself, afterall. She giggled under her breath and continued with her pilfering of the demon's office supplies.
By the time the woman returned with a cup of coffee in hand Lorelei had gathered twenty-two colored paperclips, two sticks of lead meant for mechanical pencils, one package of small sticky notes, three silver thumbtacks, and a stray piece of string. Reyna snorted with amusement as she sat back down on her stool and scooted back up to the desk.
"Little scavanger," she teased before taking a sip of her coffee.
Athan trudged into the front room and paused to peer down curiously at the small mess of items the fairy had gathered. "... gathering supplies are we? And for what, pray tell?"
Lorelei simply shrugged before setting herself down in a comfy spot and began carefully linking all her paperclips together as to not lose any. "I'm not certain yet," she spoke up since the two seemed intent on staring at her.
"Need some help?" Reyna murmured as she pointed towards the paperclips. It would be infinately easier for her to do it.
"No. I'm good," she replied as she continued with her work. She preferred to do things herself.
Athan disappeared back into the back room to grumble and mutter over his assortment of paper work that was in need of being finished. He'd managed to get behind since he hadn't bothered leaving his house in a couple of days, but really Athan's idea of being 'behind' in his work simply meant he was no longer ahead of schedule and was simply on time.
Neither Lorelei or Reyna paid him any mind, though. Sometimes it was best to simply let him be. Either way, the demon was far more interested in paying attention to the small fairy. She was.. interesting. The fact that she was bonded to Athan was comical, but she was, for lack of a better word, cute. That thought made the woman pull a rather disgusted face, but she didn't bother to voice her thoughts out loud. She was beginning to decide that her Shadow was correct -- being a mother to Samara had made her soft.
She sighed and shook her head before downing the rest of her coffee and setting the mug aside. She squinted over at Lorelei as she pondered over her thoughts for a moment. "You know.. I've got a lot of random crafting junk at my house that needs to be sorted through. I could maybe give you some stuff," she stated quietly before bending down to rifle through a desk drawer. She pulled out a tissue and laid it flat on the surface of her desk, and without asking took the fairy's newly aquired items and put them in the center of the tissue.
Lorelei opened her mouth to protest until she realized what it was the woman was doing. She bundled up the small trinkets and tied it with the piece of string to keep it closed to form a small satchel. "Thanks," she beamed as she scooted the small package across the desk towards the edge where it could easily be seen. She'd have to remember to ask Athan to grab it for her on their way home.
"Definately getting soft," Reyna muttered under her breath as she pushed away from her desk and headed towards the back room to snatch another cup of coffee.

RP with Magiale .[ A Midnight Stroll ]. Nighttime had fallen. A cold nighttime, exactly the kind of nighttime that Raphael liked. Quietly, he entered through the window door and peered around the room - it appeared to be empty, as far as he could see. He hovered just in front of the window and suddenly found himself overcome with a sort of doubt. He wasn't quite sure why he came here, and he felt overwhelmingly indecisive. So he just hovered there and blinked a couple times. Should he go left...or right? Hm. Choices. The indecisiveness suddenly lifted from Raphael's mind as he realized that he couldn't go right - at least not in the waiting room. There were chairs there, as opposed to the hallway right in front of him. Pleased at his intelligence, Raphael fluttered over to a chair and bounced on it. He supposed he could bounce on the floor, too, but chairs had bounciness that the floor didn't. Unless the floor had rubber tiles. Rubber tiles had buoyancy to them that hardwood didn't. What kind of floor did this waiting room have? Raphael stopped bouncing and peered over the side of the chair. The carpet looked pretty. It felt rough on his feet when he landed on it, but still, it looked pretty. He walked a few circles around the leg of one of the chairs, his yellow wings furled neatly around his shoulders. He hadn't walked in awhile, had he? Mostly he flew. Curious, he looked up at the ceiling.
Things looked different from the floor for some reason. He didn't know why. Slightly confused, Raphael fluttered upwards a bit and viewed the room from around the middle. Then he flew even higher and looked at the room from an eagle's eye view. The room was changing! Why did it do that?
The room didn't change too much when he just stayed still. He could sort of stay still if he didn't flap his wings too much. But then he started to drift down a little bit. He always did that when his mind wandered.
The headquarters felt a little lonely, and he felt an eery feeling down his spine. Particularly since no one was there. It was probably just his fear of strange things. This place did have a strangeness about it.
Bemused, Raphael stopped drifting downwards and went down the hallway. Would a three eyed monster pop out of nowhere? Magiale once said that monsters appeared in creepy hallways. Raphael stopped suddenly and wondered if he should have brought something. Like garlic. He probably should have. Actually, he couldn't remember what garlic did, exactly. In fact, as far as he knew, it might be onions, or turnips. But what did they do, anyway? They all looked pretty much the same. Didn't they?
Raphael shook his head and continued down the hallway. The kitchen looked inviting enough, so he went in there. Was there coffee being made? It smelled strongly of coffee. He looked around curiously, completely ignoring the coffee maker. He'd never seen one before.
The fact that he had never seen a coffeemaker soon caught up with Raphael, however. He stopped trying to read a nearby sign and fluttered towards it with wide eyes. John drank Coffee sometimes, but her coffee came from a foam cup with something like "Starbucks" written on it. He supposed it referred to some kind of deer.
He landed next to it, on the counter top. The counter felt different from the carpet, cold and smooth. Distracted, he lifted from the counter and touched down again, only this time on a different part of the counter. This part was slightly warmer.
He amused himself with this, but then he remember that John's apartment had a counter, too. This place had quiet, which he liked, and there didn't seem to be any drunken college students around here. But then, the drunken students weren't really that scary. Most of them ran away when they saw him and talked about scary demon spawns, whatever that was. Then someone else would say they were on drugs, or whatever that was. Magiale shushed him when he had asked. Raphael bounced on the counter top again and headed towards the waiting room. Maybe there was something interesting outside.
Escaping out of Athan's sight always seemed to be terribly easy, if only because the man was somewhat absent minded. It wasn't that he was stupid in any way, he just always seemed lost in thought. He and Reyna both had seemed terribly preoccupied when she'd snuck out of the shop, but they had been in the middle of negotiating with some sort of salesman over an assortment of rather pricey looking gems.
Either way, a strange, late-night business deal was hardly any of her concern. The night air was cool, but inviting seeing as the shop had seemed almost too warm. Finding the Feien HQ was rather easy, as now she had been there several times before.
She hummed under her breath as she skittered inside, idly gliding through the air at a lazy pace. All in all, it had been a good day. She'd gathered more things to build her house and had even started drawing out a small map of how she was going to lay it out.
Raphael finally came into the waiting room and noted the presence of another Feien. He didn't quite know how he knew, he just did. He pondered running away for a second - another feien sort of caught him off guard. But then he relaxed a little bit when he recognized who it was. He fluttered a tiny bit closer and waved a little hesitantly - as if he was still trying to decide if he wanted to be noticed or not. Lorelei smiled and waved at the sight of another Feien. She hadn't really been expecting to run into anyone else so late at night, but the surprise was not entirely unwelcome. She was beginning to warm up to the idea of being social, but she was still cautious about it.
"Hello," she replied in greeting, "Raphael, wasn't it?" So far she had seen him almost every time she'd ventured into the HQ. Curious, she edged a bit closer to him. "Out for a midnight stroll?"
Raphael nodded, though his brow was slightly furrowed. "Is it midnight?" He looked around a little cautiously. Bad things always happened at midnight. Or something like that. But he promptly forgot about that as he remembered his politeness. "Yes, I'm Raphael. It's nice to see you again - Lorelei, right?"
She chuckled quietly under her breath at the expression that flittered across Raphael's face. "Well.. when I left my bonded's shop it was fifteen 'til.. so I would assume so," she answered as she crossed her arms over her chest and watched the other Feien curiously.
"Yes, that's right," she replied with a smile. She paused for a long moment before speaking up once more, "Want to help me find stuff?" Typically she preferred to search for 'supplies' on her own, but Raphael had the potential to be of good help. There was a chance he could spot something she might overlook.
Raphael automatically nodded. He wanted to be helpful.
"Okay," he said. He smiled shyly, though he looked curiously out the window for a moment. Had he ever been to the Feien shop at midnight before? He wasn't sure. "Um, what do you need?"
"It's not so much what I might need, as what we might find to be useful," she answered as she drifted down the hallway towards the kitchen. Athan's kitchen was rather empty of most useful things, but it was almost as though he just barely lived in his house, strange as that was considering how much time he spent there. There was a chance she might come across something interesting in the kitchen at the HQ.
She landed upon one of the counters and walked along the smooth surface. Opening drawers was likely out of the question considering her small size, but perhaps she could wedge a cabinet open and explore there.
"I'm thinking of building a house," she said out loud, offering up a small amount of information about her plans. It was certainly more than she had told anyone else so far about her prospective project. "Do you have a house?" she asked curiously.
Raphael drifted after her a bit more slowly, and looked around the kitchen curiously. He wasn't sure if taking something might be stealing.
"A house?" Raphael looked around, pondering. "I live in a crate," he admitted, blushing slightly.
"What do you build a house with?" There was something that looked like a towel lying on the counter. He went over to it and picked at a piece of it.
"A crate?" Lorelei asked with a tinge of amusement in her voice. She didn't bother to comment further on the subject of Raphael's crate as she didn't want to hurt his feelings, but the thought did tickle her to some extent. Then again, a crate would be large enough for a Feien to create a home out of. Currently, she was contemplating a shelf in Athan's study, but the only problem with that was that the lighting was terrible and there were spiders. She wasn't the squeamish sort, but waking up in a spiderweb didn't appeal to her.
"Uhmm... well.. I'm building mine with all sorts of odds and ends I've found. My er.. friend Reyna gave me a box of popsicle sticks. I'm trying to make something out of them," she blurted out without really thinking about how she was giving away her plans, but really, who was he going to tell? "I don't really know yet. I'm just experimenting so far."
"Popsicle sticks?" Raphael pondered that for a moment. "That's a type of ice cream, isn't it?" He remembered ice cream as being important to him in some way, though at the moment he wasn't sure why.
He understood what experimenting was, though, and he gave a small smile at that. "Mm, um, how do you hold the popsicle sticks together?" he asked suddenly, surprising himself.
"Glue," she spoke up as she padded towards the towel and idly picked at a loose piece of string that had come undone from repeated use, "But, the trouble is, it takes a while for it to set. And the sticks are sort of long, so hauling them around is awkward." She huffed irritably when the string refused to come loose and instead settled herself down on the edge of the counter to swing her feet back and forth.
"So.. your.. uh.. crate," she murmured as she leaned back on her hands and glanced towards Raphael, "Do you have any furniture? Or decorations?"
Raphael thought about the question seriously. "Furniture? Well, I have my table cloth piece." Raphael fumbled with the towel a bit, as if emphasizing the fact. "Oh, and I have a flashlight, too. Sometimes Magiale has to help me turn it on, but I don't mind the darkness."
He looked at the loose thread thoughtfully.
Lorelei blinked over at the other Feien with an unreadable look on her face. "Huh. But don't you at least have a shelf or some sort of storage device to put things in?" she asked curiously. She had things. Mostly things she had gathered or had been given, but they were her small treasures. She thought surely everyone must do something similar.
Raphael blinked slightly, wondering. The old basement he'd lived in was packed to the brim with old things, but Raphael wasn't much of a pack rat. And he hadn't been to that basement in what seemed like ages.
"Storage? Oh, I have this thing with a plastic cover on it. It's like a...box." He pondered that sentence for a moment. He was awful at explaining things. "I, ah, I don't have much stuff, though," he admitted apologetically, "they sort of, um, sit on the floor, I suppose."
The blue haired fairy shifted so she was sitting cross-legged and rested her chin in one hand. "Well what sort of stuff do you have?" she asked curiously. "I've got a couple of really shiny stones," she said, volunteering a little bit of information as though that would help to get Raphael talking, "One is just a pebble, the other I'm not so sure about. I think it's a crystal."
She paused and waited expectantly as she peered over at the other Feien. She offered information, now it was his turn, or so her train of thought led her to believe.
Obviously, giving of information was the polite thing to do, though Raphael twiddled his fingers a bit at the thought that saying anything would get him rejected immediately. He didn't know why he would be rejected immediately, he just knew it was possible, and probable, too. So he hesitated before answering.
"I have a gem, too," he said, with a small smile. "It's yellow, and round. I thought, ehm." He gave a slight cough.
"I also have paint," he said after a moment. "But I don't have many colors." He began to twiddle with his big toes, a talent he discovered at precisely that moment.
"Really? That's cool!" the girl declared with a grin, "I don't have any paint, but I'd like some. My bond told me he'd buy stuff for me if I needed it, but it's more fun to go hunting for stuff." She smiled and stood to stretch out her bright red wings. "It's like .. like an adventure! And what you find is a treasure."
She beamed quietly to herself, quite utterly pleased with the thought of her 'adventures,' most of which took place within her very own home.
Raphael stopped twiddling with his toes. He knew what adventure was.
"Paint is..." he began, staring at the counter. He wasn't quite sure what paint was, exactly. "It's, cool." he finished, looking at the ceiling. Suddenly he bent over and picked up something that to a human would be a speck of dust. To him, though, it was like a pebble, or a rock, though what it was exactly was probably disgusting.
"Sometimes, everything is treasure," he said sagely, though the tone of voice sounded strange and awkward coming from him. Simara had read the phrase to him from a book, and he'd somehow recalled it at that moment. But it seemed to fit. Sort of.
"Very true," she agreed as she tilted her head to the side as she contemplated over her thoughts. She turned away and stretched with a yawn before jumping somewhat with a start when someone flicked on the lights in the kitchen. She squinted blearily as she waited for her vision to adjust to the sudden brightness.
"Time to go, Lorelei," Athan replied from the doorway before padding quietly towards the two Feien.
"See you later, Raphael," she said in a cheerful, but sleep-fogged voice, "Maybe we can go on an adventure sometime." She smiled sleepily before gliding up to Athan's shoulder to bury herself in the collar of his shirt near his neck.
Raphael realized, after her yawn, that he was also somewhat sleepy. He nodded to the human and rubbed at his eyes.
"That'd be nice," he said, "Goodnight."
He waited until they left before he also fluttered away.

Just a little spell-casting, folks. .[ Dusty Books & Old Memories ]. Athan grumbled as he trudged through his study, pacing restlessly back and forth with an all too familiar book in hand -- he, afterall, had had a hand in writing it alongside Doran. He frowned as he flipped through the pages, hoping to pick up on something the other had written that he hadn't noticed before. Something, he hoped, that could help him in what seemed to be an un-ending quest to put right what had gone so terribly wrong long ago. He heaved a heavy sigh and plopped the acursed book down atop his desk as he sat down in his chair.
He leaned his chin in his hand, small frown still on his face as he stared blankly down at the pages before him. He just barely noticed when Lorelei landed upon his desk and climbed atop the book itself to peer curiously at the neat, somewhat familiar writing.
"You wrote this?" she piped up with her tiny voice. Some of the writing looked like his.
"Much to my dismay," he replied quietly as he rubbed his eyes before making an attempt to study the text once more.
"What's it about?"
He paused for a long moment and glanced over towards the small fairy. She was rarely talkative. When she had first arrived in his care it had been about like pulling teeth to lure her into an open conversation. Sometimes it still was, and when answering a question she was nearly always vauge. It figured that she'd take interest in the one thing he truly did not care to talk about.
"It's.. a spell of sorts," he answered slowly. He smirked faintly when Lorelei's eyes went wide for a moment and she hopped off the book itself. "It deals mostly with locking away souls and there's a small bit about releasing them from their entrapment as well." It also figured that he let Doran write the part about undoing the spell. b*****d.
"Oh," she said aloud before pausing for a long moment. "... are you going to use it?"
Athan laughed out loud at that. "Goodness no! The spell is far too complicated as it is. And dangerous."
The fairy nodded in what seemed to be agreement before tilting her head to the side curiously. "What's this part about?" she asked innocently enough.
"Which part?"
"This one," Lorelei pointed as she hefted herself back atop the heavy tome and pointed to very fine print that seemed to be scrawled down the edge of the book in an opalescent ink that was just barely visible in the dim lighting.
Athan faltered for words as he tilted his head to the side to try and see what it was that the fairy was seeing. He motioned for her to move out of the way before snatching up the book. He held it sideways and tilted it slightly in the lighting to illuminate the text. A small smile quirked at his mouth. It wasn't what he was looking for but it was interesting reguardless, and perhaps.. it could help him.
Reading the text was the difficult part. It was written so small that it was difficult for him to decipher. Fortunately, Lorelei could help with that matter. Once he had a full-sized copy it was much easier to understand. What was strange though, was that it wasn't so much about the entrapment of souls as it was releasing memories from stones. It was a spell that seemed utterly benign in comparison to the one that was written out in full-sized text within the book.
He mulled over his thoughts for some time, puzzling over why exactly the spell had been copied there in the first place. The terminology used wasn't like the sort Doran preferred. In all honesty, it looked as though the spell had been written by someone else entirely and he was quite certain he hadn't done it.
"Well?"
He started somewhat at the sound of another's voice.
Lorelei tapped one foot impatiently with her arms crossed over her chest and her wings folded neatly against her back. She hadn't done all that work for nothing. She wanted to know what the spell was, too.
"It's a spell, obviously, but it's not exactly what I was looking for.. but.. it's interesting. Might even be able to test it out on something," he replied.
Lorelei frowned for a second. "Test it on what?"
Athan chuckled quietly under his breath. "Well not you, obviously. We need a piece of jewelry or a stone, but.. preferably a piece of jewelry that isn't.. er.. tainted by the presence of a soul."
The fairy simply blinked curiously before launching herself into the air to land upon Athan's shoulder as he headed towards the stairs. His emerald pendant was out of the question, and he really didn't care to toy with anything he had from work. Considering the places he traveled to in order to obtain the jewelry he sold in Twilight Designs, he wasn't so certain using a piece in a random spell was so good an idea.
That left him with one option. A small ring he had given to someone as a gift so long ago. The only problem was, the ring held a certain sentimental value to it, and he wasn't so sure tampering with something that once belonged to his beloved was so good an idea either.
Ultimately he decided to simply go for it. Partially because Lorelei was fairly beaming with excitement over getting to watch him cast a spell and because it still had the potential to help him with his quest. Anything that could help him finish what needed to be done was a welcomed blessing as he was beginning to feel a steady drain on his energy and to some extent it worried him. At the same time though, it was almost a welcome reprieve from what had become his day to day life.
He sighed faintly as he laid the ring down in the middle of a minature-sized circle he had drawn out on the slate floor in the room that conjoined his study. Lorelei clung close to his neck so she could watch exactly what he did, as she was utterly enthralled with all the nicknacks and trinkets Athan kept. It was fascinating that he could use strange forms of magic to create and undo things.
Compared to the spells he used to awaken Fiends, this was akin to a walk in the park. It was a very simplistic, basic spell. Faintly it reminded him of the one he had Mystic cast, but that was the way with spells. They all were tied together in one way or another it was simply a matter of changing a curve of a line or one rune. It was also what made spell casting dangerous at times. It was terribly easy to make a mess of things.
A faint glow surrounded the ring and then faded away to nothing. The chalked markings on the ground seemed to pop and sizzle and burn away as though he had drawn with gun powder and lit it on fire. It first burned at the outward edges before going in towards the center to the ring itself before it too faded away.
"That's it?"
Athan resisted the urge to laugh. "Patience."
Not a moment later did the ring start to glow in an unearthly way. Small tendrils of shadow seemed to emerge from the ring itself, wrapping and coiling about the metal in little wisps. Lorelei fell quiet and watched wide-eyed. She hadn't quite known what to expect but what she saw before her was interesting needless to say. Slowly, the tendrils of darkness pulled itself together and took on a more distinguishable shape. It looked like a miniature Fiend that was only about an inch taller than Lorelei.
"....what is it?" she whispered in a hushed voice.
"It's.. a memory," Athan replied quietly. He felt a small link to it as he did to all Fiends, but this was slightly different and there was no drain of energy associated with it. There was no whisper of a telepathic voice though it had the appearence of a child. There was only a brief thrill of excitement at simply being alive, and the briefest twinge of what was left over from the previous owner of the ring -- love.

Athan's been poisoned!! .[ The Poison ]. It was early enough in the morning that it was still dark. The sun had just barely begun to rise, leaving the sky a bruised, wine color admist pitch black. It was how a typical day for Athan usually began. Nothing at all seemed out of the ordinary until he arrived at the shop.
He stopped before the ornate door and frowned.
"What is it?" piped up a small voice from inside the folds of the hood of his robes. Lorelei squirmed her way out and moved to stand on his shoulder to take a better look.
Bright green eyes squinted irritably at the note posted against the door. It was pinned there with a small, ornate dagger. It reminded him faintly of one he had once owned -- one he had believed he had lost a very long time ago. He glanced from the note towards the glass windows.
For the briefest of moment it looked as though something were moving inside of the shop.
"Well?" Lorelei questioned.
"It's a note."
"Good job, Captain Obvious."
Athan rolled his eyes, but otherwise said nothing until Lorelei took to the air and made as though to land on the hilt of the dagger.
"No! Don't touch it. Don't touch anything. It could very easily be spelled!" he warned, startling the poor fairy which sent her careening back towards him to nearly crash against his shoulder. He caught her gently with one hand to keep her from falling, before he turned his attention back to the note to focus on the writing.
"What's the hold up?" came Reyna's disgruntled voice a few yards away. "Don't tell me. We're having a picnic on the sidewa -- what the ********?" she paused next to Athan before leaning in close to read the note. Drawing away, she glanced over at Athan with a faint smirk twitching at her lips.
"You've got fanmail."
Athan pinned her with a look that clearly stated that he was not amused. The fairy huddled on his shoulder giggled aloud at the remark, but otherwise the group of them fell silent save for Sam who was wriggling impatiently in her mother's arms. Fragments, too, seemed impatient and disliked hovering there staring at the door. Strangely, despite his seemingly quiet nature, it was Mystic who spoke up as he phased into view just behind his guardian.
'It sounds like a threat.'
"Indeed," Athan murmured, "But the question is, from who?" The one person that he knew for certain would go to such lengths to antagonize him was most certainly no longer around -- at least mostly. Last he had seen Smokey, afterall, was in the hands of a small child. A wisp was hardly a threat to him.
"Dunno. But I'd say whoever it is you've certainly stepped on their toes," Reyna chimed in before glancing towards Athan slowly. ".... are we gonna stand out here all day?"
He shook his head no, the frown on his face deepening into a dark scowl. "Give me a moment," he replied as he stood back away from the door and drew a circle within the air with one hand. The lines he made there seemed to crack and fizzle in the air before shining a bright green sort of like a sparkler that had just been lit.
Sam squealed and failed out towards Athan with one hand. Reyna smiled despite herself as she held the babe's hands back. It was ironic, that the first sign of happiness the child had shown since the little 'incident' that had befallen upon her was during a rather grave moment. Life was simply strange that way.
The same circular design appeared on the palm of Athan's outstretched hand. The ideal way to break whatever curse had been placed upon the shop itself would be to touch it, but he wasn't nearly so stupid. From what he could now see through the circle he had cast midair, it was a very sloppily made spell as well. It was almost as though they wanted him to see through it and break it.
He drew in a deep breath and muttered a few low phrases under his breath in an odd, lyrical language. It sent the circle that was hovering midair flying towards the door. It crackled even more and burnt into the wood, something that made Athan frown even more. He was going to have to replace the damn door.
The spell disapated with a faint, shimmering vapor. It made the paint on the door curl and peel back, and he knew for almost certain that the wood would be rotten. Better the door than one of them or one of their customers. Leprosy was not so fun, or so he would assume.
Reyna moved forward to stand next to Athan. "The note wasn't damaged. Nor the dagger."
"They knew what they were doing."
Mystic moved towards the windows and pressed both palms flat across the glass as he peered inside. His bright violet eyes widened slightly in a look of surprise. 'Something.. is in there.'
Athan grumbled and pressed a hand to his face. "I thought so."
Without any sort of warning, Mystic allowed himself to phase through the glass, but kept his transparent form just in case. Almost as soon as he entered into the shop he came right back out in a backwards stumble. At the very same moment a hideous, black, scale covered beast crashed against the glass, causing it to crack.
'It isn't a very pleasant something!'
The beast snarled and snapped its massive jaws against the glass before retreating back into the shop interior. It wasn't the sort of creature known to exist within the realm of Gaia, that much Athan was certain of. It was a rather ferocious animal thought to be extinct -- a creature from the world he was originally from. All living things there, or at least things that once lived there, were believed to no longer exist. Last that he had seen, everything had been destroyed. He had not returned since.
Reyna looked rather shocked, but it quickly dissovled when the thing began to howl and claw its way through the door. She handed Sam off to Mystic to get her out of harm's way. Not a moment later the beast had managed to break its muzzle though the hole it had created at the bottom of the door. The demon dashed forward quickly to snatch the dagger out of the door despite how Mystic yelled at her not to. Fear ran through her but she was quite certain it wasn't her own. She blocked him out entirely with an apologetic murmur. She'd be damned if she was going to face the thing unarmed.
"I wouldn't advice attacking it directly unless it attacks you first," Athan warned, "The only place you'd be able to pierce its flesh is its underbelly. Its scales are as tough as metal."
Another chilling howl rose into the air and echoed in the empty streets. They would have to kill the creature. Letting it run free through Durem wouldn't be so wise an idea. The risk of someone being attacked was far too great.
Reyna glanced from the door briefly to eye Athan as he cast a small spell to open a portal. He withdrew a long, fierce looking sword. For a moment it appeared tarnished and rusted over, but once fully grasped in the man's hand it gleamed a bright silver as though having just been polished.
"What?" she teased, "Not going to blast it away with spells?"
"It's immune to that sort of thing. It feeds upon magic."
The demon's visible eye widened in surprise. Someone had some explaining to do. He seemed to know quite a bit about the monster they were up against. Either way, she didn't have much time to ponder that thought. The creature was nearly through the door, and it did not sound very happy.
It broke free and skidded to a halt before the two of them to growl low under its breath. It barked in warning and its fangs dripped with salivia that sizzled when it hit the pavement. It circled in slowly, and Athan couldn't help but remember the last time he'd encountered such a creature. That had been a very, very long time ago. He'd only been a teenager.
Its attention seemed to be primarily focused on Athan as it hardly even glanced towards Reyna. Considering it was the sort of creature to eat faeries and sorts of small magical creatures, it wasn't surprising as it would be attracted to the scent of magic. That thought made Athan pale slightly, but Lorelei wasn't on his shoulder. He simply hoped where ever she had flown to, it was somewhere safe and out of reach.
A low growl was all the warning Athan had before it attacked. It snarled and lashed a long, whip-like tail through the air and managed to grab the man by the ankle. He'd been far too focused on trying to keep the beast from biting him to pay attention to its tail. He cursed as it dragged him down to the ground, but as he fell he did manage to wound part of it's gruesome face causing it to recoil slightly.
"Athan!" Reyna yelled, "Don't move!"
An incredulous look passed over his face as he abandoned his sword and decided simply trying to keep it from eating him was probably a good idea as he had teeth snapping only a few inches from his face.
"EASY for YOU to SAY!" Really, was she out of her mind?! A faint whisk of air passed right over his face before the dagger the woman had snatched landed with a 'thunk' in the side of the beast's neck. Maybe she wasn't so crazy. He grabbed the knife before the creature retreated and plunged it under its chin. It swayed slightly as it's dark blood poured down onto Athan's chest before collapsing.
"Getitoffofmenow!" Athan hissed as he shoved at the corpse.
"Don't tell me you're squeamish," Reyna teased as she moved to help him up and pushed the beast aside with one boot-clad foot.
"Nonono! The blood is poisonous!" Athan explained in a rush of syllables as he tried to squirm out of his robes.
"Stop moving!" Reyna ordered as she pulled a small pocket knife out of her bag and cut the robes off of him entirely to leave him standing there with nothing more than his trousers and dress shoes. "There! ... woah," she declared before pausing. There were burns along his arms and on his chest from where the blood had seeped through.
Athan stumbled slightly as he walked. He had thought he'd felt sick before, now it was infinitely worse with the poison in his system. Reyna caught him by the arm and hauled him towards the back room after making sure there was nothing waiting there to attack them as well. The fact that the man didn't so much as protest was sign enough that he was unwell. What's more, it unnerved her how the strange looking burns on his chest and hands seemed to be ever so slowly increasing in severity.
"I'll be fine," he grumbled after he sat down on the couch, one hand clutching at his pendant. "I'll go home and find the spell that's the antidote later."
"Fine my a**. And you better," Reyna hissed as she pointed at him accusingly. "If you die and leave me with this mess..!" she warned as she waved both hands around dramatically to indicate both the shop and the Shadows in general.
"Spare me," Athan retorted with a faint glimmer of a smile as his eyelids sifted half closed, "I'm not that cruel or so fortunate."
Reyna paced restlessly until Mystic arrived carrying Sam in his arms. She took the child from the Shadow and cradled her close to pacify herself somewhat. "What was that thing anyway?"
"It's.. a beast from the world I'm from, actually. It preys on small magical creatures, and usually avoids contact with any sort of being bigger than itself. Thought to be nonexistant now, but somehow.. someone found one," he explained with a dizzied wave of one hand. "Though I can't recall the name of it."
'Mirtoche. Also known as the faerie eater. Or at least one of them.'
Athan glanced up with a sort of awed expression as he peered over at the Shadow.
"And how the hell do you know that?" Reyna asked with a sort of bewildered look on her face.
"I'd like to know the same," Athan added.
Mystic simply shrugged. 'I don't know.'
'No really,' Reyna insisted, hands on her hips with a demanding look on her face.
'I. Don't. Know.'
The woman continued to interrogate him reguardless, and neither really seemed to notice the dark shadow that slipped inside the front end of the shop to neatly tuck the note from before under a paperweight on Reyna's desk after signing the bottom. It disappeared discreetly, entirely unnoticed, and took the corpse of the beast along with it.
"There is a chance he came across the name within a spell book when he studied as my student for a time," Athan spoke up as he noted that Reyna was simply becoming more and more irrate. He knew that was never a good thing where she was concerned.
"Fine. I'll buy that for now," she growled out as she glanced towards Mystic suspiciously.
He simply glared right back. He was just as stubborn as she was. Sure, he hated Athan, but he wasn't dumb enough to endanger all of them at once just to get rid of him. Nevermind the death of Athan could very well mean the death of himself. He wasn't about to risk that.
'Really, Reyna. Why would I do such a thing?' he asked in a venomous voice as he shifted forward and invaded her personal space, 'Do I look that stupid?'
"I've no idea. But you have information you shouldn't have and you've been terribly quiet here lately. Last time that happened.. well.. let's not revisit that time, shall we?" she smiled with sharp, fanged teeth.
Mystic fisted his hands at his sides out of frustration. He was more than a little offended. What made it sting worse was that he realized her reasoning wasn't entirely unjustified. Didn't she know how sorry he was for everything that had happened? Apparently not, and that hurt in a way he couldn't really describe. It was a new sort of pain he didn't like.
He looked very much like he wanted to say something else but by chance he glanced away from Reyna towards Athan. His eyes had slipped closed and he looked dangerously pale. The poison was spreading and there were patches of discoloration around the burns themselves to prove it. He gasped at the sight of him looking so sickly and pale which drew Reyna's attention to him as well.
"Oh <********> no," she nearly yelled as she bent down and shook the man by his shoulders, "Wake up!"

Lorelei meets Du Pont & Gunn! .[ Mysterious Individuals ]. Du Pont and Gunn exited Captain Hamada's office, Gunn with his scattered notes in hand, both already engaged in conversation. The rift between them at their last public appearance -- the argument concerning Dr. M -- seemed to have been resolved. "Questionable at best. But what more could you expect?" said Gunn. Whatever he was talking about, his tone was derisive.
"They're not professional witnesses, Eric," Gunn replied quietly. "They're doing the best they can. Remember, there are no perfect witnesses."
Du Pont nodded in his head in small agreement. "It would be easier if we had any actual evidence."
Gunn just shrugged. "We may yet find some."
The pair took up positions at the secretary's desk in the waiting room, Gunn sitting in the chair and du Pont alighting on the table. It was not as large a desk as the one in Hamada's office, but it had the advantage of being clear of computer equipment, which gave Gunn more space to spread out his papers. The inquisitors studied their notes intently. Lorelei entered the shop with a faint huff. She landed upon the floor first and shook out her wings and then the rest of her in a wild sort of shake that left her almost dizzy. It sent a cloud of dirt rising off of her, though there was still a good amount in her hair and smudged against her cheek. Truly, it had been a trying day, and it wasn't the dirt that had frayed her nerves.
Honestly, digging in flower pots for grubs and worms had been rather fun.
Both Gunn and du Pont froze in their review of the collected notes (Gunn still twirled a pen in his fingers) and looked down at the arrival. The look on their faces made it quite clear they were wondering why Lorelei was down on the floor.
"Hello," said du Pont, the sort of rote greeting one gives because greeting is expected.
"Hi!" Lorelei called as she squirmed a bit to try and rid herself of the rest of the dirt that was caked on her wings. Landing in a muddy hanging basket hadn't been one of her most graceful of moments. Really, she ought to have thought about at least washing up before visiting the HQ, but it was a bit late for that now.
She cleared her throat and took back to the air with a hop that made her wobble a bit, but otherwise her gliding didn't appear too clumsy. Curious, she landed upon the secretary's desk a little ways away so as not to disturb the papers they had laid out.
"I don't believe I've met either of you before. I'm Lorelei," she chimed up as she wiped at her face with one hand, ultimately making the dark smudges of grime worse.
Gunn was quick to recoil, sitting back in his chair and nearly snapping his pen. Du Pont was nonplussed. "A pleasure," he intoned joylessly. He knew who she was, but only by name and file. "Have you been out playing in the mud, or is the dirt natural?" It was a little more of his biting personality than he usually let forth while he was on duty, but sometimes the feien inquisitor liked seeing his partner squirm just a bit.
She merely smirked and ran a hand through her mussed hair, part of which was sticking up in odd directions. "No, actually," she replied as she folded her arms over her chest with a rather smug look on her face, "I was digging up worms."
Hitting the pen sharply against the edge of the table, Gunn said, "If you'd like to clean up there's a washroom down the hall."
Du Pont frowned thoughtfully a moment and looked at Gunn. He could let this continue, but it would only be cruel. "Yes," said du Pont, "it might be good, to protect the furniture and carpeting. Cleaning bills can be very expensive."
Not that the HQ paid for its cleaning; it was all performed by Fleet robots. There was no stain that could resist the nanoscrubbers, either, but there was no reason to tell that to Lorelei. Better to just have her wash up and put Gunn at ease again.
"Thanks for the suggestion," the feien answered as she gazed curiously over at the two before taking to the air to head towards the bathroom. Was she really that messy? One look at her hands and nails said yes quite loudly -- as did the neat, small foot prints she left behind on the desk.
She disappeared into the washroom for some time to scrub her limbs clean, though she didn't bother with her hair or wings. She'd deal with that later. Currently, she was more interested in finding out who du Pont and Gunn were. They were new faces and she had half expected to run into one of the more 'regular' visitors that frequented the HQ on a fairly consistent basis.
When she returned the two were still in the waiting room, only they had moved from the desk to the floor, papers spread out in a vast array. This was probably the only place in the HQ they could do this. Anywhere else and there would have been too much furniture in the way. Perhaps Antipov's office, but official business or not, that was a location best avoided.
Gunn looked slightly relieved at the dirt reduction on Lorelei's form, but he still did his best to avoid any actual physical contact with her.
Lorelei bounded onto one of the chairs in the waiting room to land with a bounch on the cushion. She giggled faintly at how it made her stomach sort of giddy before settling herself onto the arm of the chair to sit cross legged with her chin resting in her hands.
"So," she began quietly as she peered over at the papers scattered everywhere, "What'cha doing?"
Her question was quite innocent and was reminiscent in how a child might pester an older sibling while they were trying to go about some sort of important task. She simply wasn't aware of that. Her bonded had a way of humoring her and answered most, if not all, of her questions no matter how trivial or obvious the answers may be.
"We," said Gunn, moving papers around on his floor, "are organizing our investigation." Even though he had not seen any of his siblings in well over ten years, Gunn still had a younger sister and brother and responded to such questions with habitual complaisance. "These are notes taken during several interviews and we're drawing connections between the statements to help reconstruct events."
Du Pont looked at Gunn, surprised at the ease with which the human aswered Lorelei's question.
"Neat!" the fairy declared with a joyous sort of look before falling quiet, "So you're sort of.. investigating a mystery!" She was doing a little bit of investigating of her own, or at least intended to. Her bonded was an interesting man, mostly because she knew he had lots of secrets. Maybe they could give her some advice.
Then again, asking could possibly give away her intent and that didn't seem to be so good an idea.
"That's a good way to put it," said du Pont crossly. "A mystery with lots of gaping holes and inconclusive witnesses and no hard evidence..."
"Geiseric," said Gunn, voice low in warning, but he was smiling in amusement. To Lorelei he said, "We call an investigation like this a 'cold case.' There aren't any hot leads."
Lorelei sat upright and nodded, listening intently as she filed away the information for later. Any little bit could prove to be helpful. "Well," she began slowly as though contemplating exactly how to phrase her question, "What sort of mystery is it?"
"Missing persons," said du Pont curtly. "You wouldn't have seen any of the people we're looking for. They disappeared before your arrival."
Gunn was quick to point out, "Which doesn't mean Lorelei hasn't heard anything about them. Have you?" And Gunn picked up a piece of paper with a list of names printed on it and held it up for Lorelei to see. Quote: Skylark, Aric, Ryuusei, Gekisho, Yasha, Luca, Ursa, Tosten, Calico Her brow furrowed in concentration as she stood and looked closely at the list of names. She shook her head no with a small frown on her face. "I'm afraid not. I can't recall any of them. Can't say I've heard much either," she admitted, "I've not met that many other feien."
Lorelei's expression softened into a smile a moment later. "I'll let you know if I hear anything, though!" Typically she wasn't the sort to volunteer such acts. She preferred to hoarde information for herself, but the excitement of somehow coming up with a lead to help solve a mystery was too great for her to resist.
"We appreciate that," said Gunn sincerely, putting the paper back down in the middle of the array. "I'm Inquisitor Gunn, by the way, but you can call me Billy. And my partner is Inquisitor du Pont."
"You can call me Inquisitor du Pont," said du Pont charitably.
"Billy and Inquinsitor du Pont," she said out loud as though to better commit it to memory. She stumbled a bit over 'Inquinsitor' but whether it was because she honestly could not easily pronounce it or whether she was simply being spiteful was rather unclear. Lorelei smirked nonetheless and looked rather proud of herself.
"It is a pleasure to meet you both!" she continued a moment later as she stood and stretched her wings out, causing a bit of dust to puff up around her, "I have to go find my bonded before he comes searching for me."
She smiled and waved before making her exit, leaving a small bit of dirt in her wake.
"Take care," said Gunn. Du Pont merely turned his back in farewell and resumed scanning over the pages of notes.
