Possum, seeing Davii was right beside him, forged on through the shadow. The darkness made him brave even though he knew the dangers within it.
His paws moved noiselessly over the earth, tail arched in a 'beta's curve'. He didn't think it showed much backbone to tuck his tail constantly.
At the crinkling of the autumn grass, Possum slowed to a stop. His muzzle raised to the air, sniffing deeply. There was another wolf not far off, but he didn't smell any hostility. Therefore, it wasn't a Brotherhood wolf. With a tilt of his head, he moved forwards again.
They would come upon a large river, the current pulling fallen leaves through the bend. Possum sat down right on the shore, shaking off the pelt and laying it down where it wouldn't get ruined. Oh, mother would have his tail if it got ruined. "Here we a-a-are!"

Davii kept at his heels the entire distance of their little journey. Especially so when they slowed and he watched Possum's nose curve up into the air, sampling it. Following his example, the smaller male did the same, immediately picking up on the other wolf's scent and his ears went back. Though he was from a relatively social pack, he had learned from his parents that caution was your best friend, especially when your pack is tucked between a few notoriously vicious neighbors. Aqua Azul above, Reign of Terror to the east, and the Brotherhood whose location was a mystery.
When the scent of water hit, his heart gave a jubilant thump. Now he could relax...well, sort of. He would have to keep in mind the lie he had already told his new friend, hoping it wouldn't become obvious that he did in fact know how to swim, and that something beyond that was troubling the young pup. Watching Possum, he gave a wide grin. "It's awesome," he commented, feeling his whole hips sway with his wagging tail. Waiting at the shore, he watched Possum patiently. The cool sand beneath his paws was a unique sensation, and the lapping water was like the hum of chimes.

Possum tilted his head to the overcast sky, wondering if the sun would come out, then waded into the water, his eyes and ears on Davii. He gave a bark, waiting for his friend. If Davii didn't know how to swim, well then Possum was ready to teach him how. "Y-You'll be a natural in the water. I just ha-have a feeling!" He loved the feel of the current taking his fur away from his skin, the rippling sensation it brought. They would have fun, like the fun his brothers and he used to have, and then he would take the pink pup back to his home.

Davii followed slowly, tapping at the cool water with a hesitant paw before gliding in like his friend. At first he stayed in the shallows, not venturing any farther than where his pads touched the cold mire. The soft liquid was pleasant against his skin, his fur floated about while his tail flagged in the air. "It feels great," he said with a toothy grin. Finally he moved, shuffling his paws forward into deeper water. The current was light, not too strong for the small pup, and as his legs moved, he naturally started to wade, swimming lightly.

Possum watched him with a grin as the pup dipped his toes in, then slid his entire body in. "Yes, it does! S-So, do you feel any different?" He was eager to know if such a simple thing as going swimming would help the pink pup's confidence.

The pink pup looked to Possum, giving a look of 'cat got your tongue' as he paddled in silence. This wasn't going to help him...he knew this, but despite that, he wondered if he could reassuring his new friend that his efforts were not wasted. "I...I dunno," he answered. He didn't want to lie to Possum, but he didn't want to disappoint either. "I don't know. I guess I feel different, but is it the right kind of different? Am I any stronger?" He moved a little in the water, flopping his tail about aimlessly.

Possum ducked his head under the water, flailing around for a moment before popping back up. He caught the look the pink pup sent to him, as well as the look of concentration in his blue eyes. As he paddled, he smiled the entire time at Davii. "It might be the right kind of different," he nodded eagerly. "You could be stronger. Do you feel any stronger?" He stopped then, staring at the pup for just a moment more. "I think you are." And deep down, Possum was proud. "Are you ready to head back?"

Davii stared at Possum, as he found himself doing more frequently as time progress, and contemplated his words. Did he feel any stronger? Not really, but then again maybe. He felt stronger in a difference sense than what he was looking for, and though it was what he had hoped to find, it was just as important. He felt strength in the new friend he had gained. This was enough for him. Friendship was all he would need now, and was the only light he could see in his befuddled whirlpool of thoughts and confusions.
A warm grin crept onto his face. "Yeah, maybe I am," he confirmed, giving the darker coated pup a nod before paddling toward the shore. "I suppose we should head back."
