"He may not feel it now, but he will," Julien said certainly, smiling at her. "Love isn't something that's easily ignored, I think." Taking another of the small sandwiches, Julien ate, watching the egg thoughtfully. "But I think, mostly likely, that he can already feel it from you. I can remember vague sensations from when Mir cared for my egg."

Reaching out to the egg again, but not touching lest he get crumbs or juice on the shell, he added softly, "You can feel her love, can't you?"

Raina couldn't help but smile back at the teen, feeling his affirmative become something she could believe in.

"I only received him a few days before, but I do hope this is all reaching him," she said, curling up and resting her head on her knees. "Maybe he'll hear your voice and recognize you when he hatches~"

Raina's eyes lit up with a fondness as she watched the egg, her voice rising to a gentle trill. She let her eyes run over Julien, finding his prescence comforting and distracting from the troubles of life. She turned her gaze back to the egg to see its reaction to his words.

Almost hauntingly, the egg froze in midair as he said it, then began shivering and shaking, as if afraid. Raina's eyes flew open in surprise. He... didn't? What was Faustus trying to say? She bit her lip worriedly.

Julien blinked as the egg began to shiver and shake, withdrawing his hand long enough to scrub it on his jeans with little regard for the fabric. When it was relatively clean, he reached out again, touching the shell with a single fingertip, featherlight. "Shhh," he murmured softly, watching the egg carefully. "It's okay. She's right here." Not sure how his powers might react with the boy inside the egg, Julien held back, instead hoping to calm and comfort through simple touch.

Raina opened her mouth to say something, but instead watched politely and patiently as Julien tried his best to comfort the egg.

Faustus stopped shaking at his touch, and calmed a little, but folded in his wings at the sides, almost as if he was withdrawing into himself. What had caused it, she wondered? What could have made him fall into such a stance?

Raina let her eyes drift over Julien again. He looked utterly concentrated on Faustus, and she did the same, also reaching out, but resting her whole hand on the egg. A shock of confusion coarsed through her veins, making her draw back. Faustus was confused? It was such a powerful feeling.

Pulling back her arm, she stared at the fingertips carefully before placing them back on the egg, feeling her body return to normal.

"Faustus..." she murmured, wondering what it all meant.

Julien finally pulled back, frowning a little as he looked over at Raina. "I'm sorry," he murmured to her, his voice a bit distant as he finished off the small sandwich and tucked the others away. "I disturbed him somehow, I think." One hand lifted, mindless of the butter clinging to his fingertips as he scratched the back of his head in thought. "I'm not sure what it was. Maybe my presence feels wrong?" Or maybe, his mind supplied silently, it was his powers creeping out, without meaning to...

Raina studied his face before giving a quiet smile and shaking her head.

"There's no need to apologize, Julien. It wasn't your fault at all," she supplied gently, letting her line of sight trail over the fragile looking egg. A frown didn't suit the boy, that was for sure. "He was only confused by something you said, I think. I felt confused just reaching out to him..."

She let her voice peter out, and her thoughts began to whir. What did he say, just before it happened? 'You can feel her love'. What was so wrong about that? What about that couldn't he understand? Raina blinked, bit her lip. Maybe Faustus wasn't going to be like Julien, after all.

"Don't worry about it," she assured, though she couldn't wipe the worry off her own face. "You didn't do anything wrong."

Seeing the worry he'd caused, Julien's frown only grew a bit, and he stared steadily at her, willing her to feel his conviction. "Sometimes, what is real isn't understood at first," he said softly. "It takes time for understanding to settle in. Whatever he was confused by, he'll learn in time, and you'll be the one to guide him there." He reached out, setting a gentle hand over hers for a moment. "I believe that."

Raina brought her gaze from Faustus to Julien, and felt her breath catch in the back of her throat at his eyes. They were icy pale, hardly natural- she should have noticed when they met. It wasn't hard to figure out he wasn't a creature of the mortal world. She listened to his words and nodded, feeling that he needed to know that she understood.

She let her features fall into a smile.

"Yes, you're... you're absolutely right, Julien." she said softly, willing herself to believe it. "Faustus will learn in time. Why, he hasn't even hatched yet. What am I worrying about?"

She laughed well-naturedly, feeling the warmth of his palm over hers. He reminded her of Dami, her lover- he was soft, sweet. He would do well in whatever he set himself out to do, that was sure.

Content that she was telling him at least mostly the truth - if she didn't believe, at least she was trying - Julien nodded and began to smile again, drawing his hand back to reach for his satchel. "You know...," he said slowly, blinking as a thought occurred to him. "If you ever wanted help with him..." Julien trailed off, looking down as he dug through the bag before finally coming up with a card. "Mireille's phone number is on there. I still live with her, so if you ever needed help or just someone to talk to, you could always call," he noted, handing over the card.

Raina quirked a brow as he started off on another piece of conversation, peering curiously at the satchel bag that held what he was to give her. She hesitated before taking the card in between two fingers, pocketing it and grinning with gratitude.

"Thanks," she said, still slightly shocked that someone this warm existed. Perhaps it had to do with his non-human roots. "This lady, this Mireille... I'd love to meet her, sometime. She sounds like a delightful woman."

Then, almost like an afterthought, she brushed her hands over her pockets.

"I'm afraid I don't have a pen or paper with me at the moment, but if something happens that I should know, or, yes, if you'd just like to talk-" and at this she smiled, "It would be handy for you two to have my number, as well."

"I try to come prepared," Julien grinned, digging a bit more into the satchel before coming up with a notebook and pen. The cover of the spiral book mimicked a blue pinstripe suit, the pages within paler blue and many of them covered in black writing, the scribbled words holding little regard for the lines they were mostly situated on. Julien flipped through it, finally coming to a clean sheet of paper and offering both down to her.

"Here you are," he said cheerfully. "Feel free to write your number down in there if you'd like to give it to me. I'll take it out when I get home and put it in my organizer."

At his comment, Raina laughed, shaking her head in wonder. Here she was, being the disorganized mess she made her life into, and sitting next to her was a younger, more responsible one... she would definitely have to work on that.

She brought her gaze down to the paper and pen and smiled graciously as she took them from him, jotting down her number in neat, curvaceous writing, labeling her name underneath for good measure.

Handing both back to him, she flinched as a raindrop hit her squarely in the nose and looked up, the slow, steady sound of the oncoming storm filling her ears. A stray bolt of lightning lit up the sky as the sound grew louder, and then rain fell into a small drizzle, making her smile and bring her gaze back to Julien.

"We better go. If you don't live close, you can come by my house until it lets up?"
