Allright.
You realize Gamestop probably sold it at a loss, though, right?

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand why everyone in this guild has a problem with GameStop. I've been going there for a few years now and I've never had a problem with it. NEVER. So can someone explain what the problem is?

When I got FFF:CD and FFVII: CC, the people at Gamestop were actually nice/cool.

Usually they're condescending/stereotyping bastards with a god complex.

"I WURK @ GAMYESTOP,MY d**k IS SO BIG11111"

STFU, you loose because you still work in retail.

My one problem is that they try to push used titles, where they get all the money from sales and the devs get nothing.
That's not to say they aren't capable of complex fabrications of human compassion, in the form of fanservice.
Last time I went to Gamestop to get Okami, they gave me new, no-questions-asked.

It's because those who work at Gamestop are gamers. Gamers are nerds. Try to have an intelligent conversation with a nerd. I dare you. Watch the 'who knows more about nothing' thing explode.

In fact, if you guys don't straighten up, I"ll have to start hanging out with anime fans again.

All right, no one answered my question earlier, so I am assuming that no one knew it (if Sony MADE software emulation, why aren't they using it?). Anyways, I found out why, and after tracking it down, I found out something else that made me hate Sony for a little while.

Anywho, the 20GB and 60GB SKUs actually had TWO chips making BC possible: the Emotion Engine AND the graphics synthesizer. Without the GS, Sony would have to program each game individually (which is what MS is actually doing for the 360), but that's a lot of s**t to program for, even if you only chose Greatest Hits titles and other games that gamers horde. This I understand. However, I had to know more, which brings us to what upset me...

The dual combo Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer cost $27. Did you catch that? TWENTY-SEVEN US DOLLARS. At first, I can kind of understand it. PS3s are still selling at a loss, the last time I checked, so it would be an easy way to cut corners. HOWEVER, I soon remembered that the 40GB model still has built-in WiFi, and it bugged me. How much does it cost to put THAT in the machine? Well, here is my source, and the surprise is $15. Even though I was expecting something higher, this is only a $12 difference in the choice between BC and WiFi. On top of that, I KNOW that Sony would sell MORE 40GB systems (and note that I do not believe that the 40GB is selling "well") IF they played PS2 games.

So maybe a poll is in order, but if Sony could take a additional $12 hit for every 40GB PS3 sold, would they not sell MORE systems? Is it not good to get MORE systems in homes, allowing MORE people to buy MORE games? If PS3s are selling at a loss, the most obvious way to make more money is to sell SOFTWARE and accessories. Here's a big kicker. The 360 WiFi adapter doesn't sell well, but it still sells a few, and that's at $100. If Sony sold an accessory (read: something to get profit) that made the PS3 WiFi capable, they could easily make $15 for every adapter sold. Additionally, external hard drives work on the PS3, and changing the internal hard disk does NOT void your PS3's warranty, so why not sell hard drives in stores? They might not see an immediate rise in revenue, but over time, as people look to upgrade their purchase, they could easily make a little more money.*

*Note that Wii add-ons are selling like crack on pancakes.

EDIT: Something else I found interesting...

After discovering this, people asked Sony "why"? To make sure people who bought PS3s bought PS3 games.

And doesn't the 40GB have to sell well, if that's basically the only one they have been selling last couple of months?

I only bought the 40GB cause I really wanted a PS3 to play PS3 games on, but the 40GB was the only one Gamestop had at the time.

I don't understand why make a system backwards compatible for PS1 games, but not PS2 games.

Don't more people own PS2 games than PS1 games?

I know I'd have a lot if I didn't trade them all in for credit. The only PS1 game I have is.... Final Fantasy IX.

He's just making a statement (which is true by the way Ace, more people do own PS2 games than PS1 games because CD's don't last forever and by this time PS1 CD's are probably either not working, or were traded in). How is it all about him? You really need to chill. You are no higher than any of us. Stop acting like such a ******** conceited p***k already.

@ Ace: I can see where you're coming from with the GameStop thing. But not all GameStop workers are like that. The guys at my GameStop are epic.

@ Tango: Should you even care? Just buy the game. End of story. It's not like the same thing doesn't happen with Best Buy or any other retailer. Best Buy makes a percentage of profits off game sales too. GameStop is just trying to make a profit just like the devs are. It's business, man.

Maybe because the PSOne is so old that they can write only one program to play all PSOne games?

Note that there are NES and SNES and even N64 emulators widely available, and those don't require things like the Emotion Engine or a Graphics Synthesizer.
