Kohana gave a soft growl at his laugh and frowned "I don't have a family." She must have had parents of course, but she couldn't ever remember having seen them or even having heard their voices. Siblings were something she had never contemplated, she was alone, footloose and carefree.
Mafu made her care though, and she found it difficult, upsetting. "I don't NEED anyone." She huffed "or anything to occupy my mind, I have to survive, I'm on my own. Don't you?" She frowned and looked at him uncertainly, maybe he wasn't the carefree male she had thought. Did he have friends? Family? Someone who cared about him, for him?

As she spoke, he suddenly was brought back to reality. Back to being an uncle, having twelve little ones to help look after at home. His face softened as he looked away from her, his smokey eyes almost sad.
"I used to think that. That all there was to life was to survive." He said, his voice hushed, "But... Sometimes it's better to have someone around. Someone to talk to you, a shoulder to cry on. Someone to laugh with and be yourself." He said as he looked up to her and gave her a soft smile, "It's nice just knowing someone's there. Even if you don't speak, just to be around them makes your day brighter."

Kohana looked away suddenly the things he said conjured up a cold empty sensation inside her. She realized now, he had those things, he had others to talk to, to laugh with. She felt her tongue bitterly caught in her throat, what could she say to that?
She took a deep breath and shrugged "I guess, but for some of us...we're just...alone." She stood abruptly and looked at him, her emerald eyes caught his grey ones. Like a storm about to break her idyllic little world.
"I...I gotta go!" And with that she took off, running mad dash, running, running, far away.

He gave her a small smile when she caught his gaze, but then she was off before he could blink. He sighed and stood, watching her run into the distance.
After she disappeared, he started to make his way back to camp. His family would probably be worried. Half of him wondered if he would ever see her again, part of him knew that he would. It was just a matter of when.
