Toulouse almost started to laugh but he squished the feeling after seeing how serious Julien had suddenly got. He wanted to give a good answer and didn’t want Julien to feel weird around him for whatever reason though they were currently unfathomable to Toulouse. “It’s okay.” He said flopping onto the bed next to Julien. “You can..er…think whatever you like about anyone. That’s not bad.” Toulouse smiled at Julien hoping that helped. “Honestly, I’m secretly pleased that you think that about me. I wouldn’t want you to think me ugly.” His smiled widened. How vain he was!

I just want to do squares I think.” Toulouse said his attention moving back to the quilts.

I’m glad I get to be friends with you.” Felicity said happily. “There’s not many young women I know who I like to talk to. Not only that, our kids are of the same birth. Common comradeship right there.”

"It doesn't bother you?" Julien asked, blinking at Toulouse. "That I think you look good, I mean?" He reached up, scratching at the back of his neck as he sighed. His eyes fell on a bit of fabric he'd picked up at the store, and he reached out to pick it up, running the red and white pattern through his fingers. "I've had more dreams." Squares. They could do squares. He moved to get his book, digging up a pattern of a grid of squares framed by plain fabric.

"And sympathy," Mireille laughed, nodding and toasting Felicity with her mug. "I was thinking now that the kids are older... sort of... we could take them to the movies one day? Since we could each watch our own thing."

He thought about it for a moment making a squishy face, deciding that no, he didn’t mind at all. “Nope, not at all.” Toulouse said with a vague shrug. “You can think what you like and I won’t mind. Totally fine.” He smiled, “Now I like that. It’s very nice, the red and white. Do you like it? What colors are you going to use?”

Toulouse shook his head and frowned a bit. “More dreams? They weren’t bad were they? I hope they weren’t.” He said this reflecting on the usual nightly visits of his own terrible past. He shudder. “Do you remember what they were about?”

Yes, loads and loads of sympathy!” Felicity cheered back. “The movies would be so totally fun…though Toulouse has never been to one. I’m not sure how he’d take it.” Felicity remembered how he had freaked out about the internet. He still called it a giant spider-web. She smiled. “What kind of movie would we see?”

Julien considered. Really, the dream had been rather nice, despite the mental image of blood on snow. "I had a lover, I think. In the past, I mean," he noted, fingers sliding over the fabric before he held it out to Toulouse. "He had red hair."

"Knowing Jules? Probably a comedy. Or maybe one of those feel-good chick flicks," Mireille laughed. "I actually wouldn't mind an action, myself."

Wow.” Was all Toulouse said for a moment. He was very intrigued. This was very interesting. He didn’t know anyone with red hair. He took the fabric from Julien so he could examine it closer. “Like this color red?” Toulouse asked slowly not wanting Julien to feel lonely or sad because of the dream. “Do you remember his name or what you did together?” The question popped out before he could stop himself. “I-I mean you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”

What no horror! The horror!” Felicity giggled. “I definitely vote for the action movie. I love anything like that. Or at the very least a sexy actor in the starring role.”

Julien blushed but smiled, nodding slowly as his eyes grew distant. "All I dreamt about was waking up together, and the way our hair mixed. I guess I had longer hair back then," he noted, reaching up to pinch a few strands between his fingers, drawing them out to their full length. "I wonder if I should let mine grow out," he murmured softly, looking thoughtful.

"Oh, I like horror just fine," Mireille countered, chuckling. "But I'm not sure I should let Julien know that!"

I don’t know.” Toulouse replied thoughtfully. “I guess do whatever you like, though long hair is a little hard to manage.” He thought of his sister’s long silver hair and how often he had to brush it. “It looks nice this length, but I’m sure it would look just a good longer too.” Toulouse nodded. “You should make a red-ish, blanket to remind you of your lover. It’s okay.” He patted Jules companionably on the knee.

Oh? Does he not like horror films.” Felicity giggled. “Some of them are pretty scary. Maybe a comedy would be best?”

Julien's heart skipped a beat, but it had nothing to do with the gentle touch to his knee. "Yeah," he whispered softly, with a wistful little smile on his face. "I should. A red and tan quilt big enough to wrap up in," he agreed, cheeks blushing a little as he looked up at Toulouse. "Maybe it'll help me dream of him again," he added.

"This IS Jules we're talking about," Mireille pointed out. "He of the sunny disposition and desire for everyone to be happy. Can you imagine him in a horror movie? He'd want to help all the victims!"

Toulouse laughed at Julien’s expression. Ah, to be young and in love again! “You’re too cute. I’m sure you would dream about him if you did that. For sure.” He nodded. “I would say, ‘let’s get started‘, but I have no idea where to begin.” He looked at the pattern books in a confused sort of way. “Uh…

I can just see it now! Here comes the blood thirsty clown to attack only with Jules to the rescue.” Felicity laughed. “Toulouse would just be cowering behind his hands. Oh gosh how silly is that?”

Julien blushed deeply as Toulouse laughed, his smile unwavering, though he did drag his mind back to the present. "Let's start by figuring out which pattern you like best, okay?" he said, setting aside the red and white fabric for use himself. "You like squares, but there are all sorts of things you can do with squares, like mosaic pictures that show up because of the colors you put together."

Mireille was choking on her laughter. "What are you on?" she demanded, setting her mug down on the table lest she spill it. "That's hilarious!"

Hmm. I don’t think I want the squares to make a picture. That sounds to hard, though to be honest my brain just stopped at squares. I just need something simple.” Toulouse sighed picking through the fabrics again looking for colors that he liked. “What kind of design are you going to do?”

Toulouse looked at the pattern book with Julien, trying to find something relatively simple. They all looked pretty hard though. He knew he’d probably get irritated before the thing was done.

I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Felicity snorted in glee. “I totally forgot to take my crack this morning! My bad.” He coffee was having a time of it as she sloshed a little of the luke warm liquid on her hand. She was having too much fun to care though.

Julien considered for a moment, then grinned slowly. "You want a patchwork quilt, don't you? Just colors everywhere, with no real rhyme or reason?" He hadn't thought very far himself, but it didn't matter, because now he had an idea for Toulouse. "We could totally do that. There's a box with a bunch of pins in it on the desk there. Could you grab it? We can use them to help us piece together your quilt."

Mireille finished giggling and moved to grab a napkin for Felicity. "Here," she chuckled. "You're insane, you know that?"

Well…” Toulouse rubbed the back of his head ruefully. “Yeah. I think that’s it.” He gave a small smile almost a little embarrassed. “I’ve always liked those kinds.”

Toulouse walked over to the desk that Julien pointed too scanning the top for the pin box. He picked up the clear plastic container of pins giving it a little shake. “These, right?” He asked as he brought them back to Julien. “Do we have to cut the squares first also?”

I’m not insane, just medically misunderstood!” Felicity giggled mopping up the little puddle that she had made. “Wow, what a gut buster that was. I wonder how the boys are doing.”

Julien was grinning again, his focus once more on the quilt instead of the memory of his lover. "Patchwork quilts can be really fun, I think," he decided, considering for a moment before looking up at Toulouse thoughtfully. "Let's see... you're probably going to want it at least... seven, seven and a half feet long? And maybe four or five feet wide, right?" he added, standing up and moving toward the desk himself to get his tape measure. "Stand still, okay?" he asked, moving to unroll the measuring tape to the ground.

"We'll cut the squares once we know how many you want per row and column," Julien added, nodding as he decided that his measurements made decent sense. "Do you want lots and lots of squares, or not so many?"

"I'm sure they're doing fine," Mireille chuckled, eyes crinkling as she looked up at the ceiling. "I don't hear any banging, anyway."

Eh?” Toulouse queried at the sound of what the length was going to be. “That sounds good but it’s going to take sooo long! I guess it was good luck that I came over here tall and not short.” Toulouse laughed a bit here stretching his arms up high in the air. He was still very exctied about being tall. “I can almost touch the ceiling…er, sort of.” He put his arms back down and stood still so that Julien could measure him.

You know I’m going to say less squares because I am so lazy and want it done right now. I really want to make it a colorful blanket though, so lets go with lots.” He nodded to himself crossing his arms over his chest. “Do you think if we work really hard we could get both quilts done today?” Toulouse wanted to have something to take home today but he guessed it was okay if he didn’t. He vowed to stay calm as long as possible today and just let the joy of being closer to his former self sink in. Whatever happened was fine.

Julien is probably keeping Toulouse in line.” Felicity smiled. “Though, come to think of it, he’s been so easy going lately that I don’t think that it will be a problem. They‘re probably having as much fun as we are.” She drank down the rest of her now lukewarm coffee. It still tasted good though and hit the spot.
