Koorie shivered a little when he placed his paw on her stomach, returning his kiss with one of her own accompanied by a soft nuzzle. "I hope they resemble you more than myself.... or at least have 4 legs each..."

He smiled and nuzzled her back. "I'm sure they will resemble both of us. And even if they don't have 4 legs, we will still love them all the same."

Koorie smiled and leaned into him. "We most certainly will. Flame, these children will never suffer the same loneliness I had to when I was a child..." She was slowly revealing more of her past to him.

He held her tightly against him and sighed. "No...never...and neither will you ever again...."

Koorie smiled and closed her eyes, relaxing and falling asleep in his arms.
Months later she lay curled up in the sands by the bank of the river, breathing heavily. It was time soon, and she'd been rather dumb by sending Flame away. She could feel contractions ripping through her, but she refused to cry out in pain; it wasn't like her to cry for any reason, and she wouldn't do so now. But God damn did this hurt! She shut her eyes tightly, waiting for it to end.

Flame ran through the huge valley and through the orchard that was there. He was getting food for Koorie and himself...well mostly for Koorie...and he wanted to make sure he had enough. But he was really anxious, and ready to get back to Koorie. He didn't want her to be alone. Even he could tell that the babies would arrive soon. He had a basket, which he was filling with apples and berries, and when it was full, he carried it in his mouth and headed back to the river where Koorie was.

Koorie could take it no more and she cried out in complete pain. it felt like she was being burned and ripped apparent from the inside. Crying out once more, the first egg appeared, and, huffing, she softly pulled it to rest in front of her. Sure enough, the little egg was covered in flames on one side of it. "God damn it Flame...."
Crying out for a second time, another egg made it's way out of her; this one was pure black and finned.

As Flame was on his way back he heard a horrible cry of pain. As soon as he heard it, he knew what was happening. He used agility, and dashed back to the river, sloshing a few berries out of the basket on his way. When he saw Koorie, and the two eggs, he stared in amazement. Then he dropped the basket and hurried to her side. He nuzzled her head with his, trying to keep his eyes on her face...and not what was happening. "Koorie, it's okay, I'm here. You can do it."

Koorie opened her eyes when she felt the familiar warmth on her head. "Flame.... Thank god you're he- AH!" She cried out in pain as the third egg began to push its way out. Tears fell down her cheeks as the roundish object emerged and nestled into the sand.
Koorie breathed heavily, pulling the third, and hopefully the last egg into the small dug-out nest she had made, resting it next to the other twos. She still felt the pain, but so far it wasn't nearly as bad as what it had been.

Flame held her paw in his and squeezed it lightly, keeping his warm head against hers and talking to her encouragingly. "You got this...breathe..." He couldn't imagine how she felt...and he didn't want to. He didn't like seeing her in pain either...but he knew it would be worth it...for both of them. He looked at the three eggs and smiled at her. "They are so beautiful..." Looking back at the basket he asked her, "Do you need anything to eat?"

Koorie was trembling under Flame's touch, breathing in slow, trembling breaths. It was over, there were only three.... That's when the pain shot through her as the contractions started again and she cried out in pain again. Slowly, a fourth egg appeared and rolled onto the soft sand.
Koorie leaned against Flame limply, the pain ebbing away for good now. She was exhausted, and her body ached in ways she'd never though imaginable.

Flame supported her weight and kissed her cheek. "You did good, you did good. Now rest, love." He moved slowly, supporting her as he did, so that she could lay down. He looked at the eggs and smiled at Koorie. "Wow...four of them..."

Koorie let out a soft laugh, exhaustion written all over her face. "I told you I was pregnant...." Her tail softly wrapped around all four of the eggs, holding them close to her, as she rested herself against Flame. This was her family, and this was her new start.

Flame chuckled and stroked her head lightly with his paw. "You sure did. Well, you know what they say. The more the merrier!" He grinned proudly at his family. He was so happy to have four beautiful babies. Months ago they wondered if they could even have babies at all, and now they had four.

Koorie smiled, enjoying the gentle caresses that Flame was giving her and letting herself slip away as he spoke to her. Everything was perfect now, she had everything she'd ever yearned for and ever dreamed of when she had been an innocent child; dreams she'd lost when she had become older. Slowly, she slipped into a light sleep, feeling protected and safe.
