Mentor Visit 1

Iason had been running late, having gotten caught up in his most recent work, and he hoped that it wouldn't be held against him. He arrived at the room he had been directed too, and entered. "Sorry I'm," he started to say, pausing as he noticed the little green eyed boy staring intently at him. "late."

The techie shrugged and handed him a thick folder labeled Sandfox . "Everything you need to know is in this file. You have one hour."

Iason nodded, and then moved to kneel down to the child's level. "Are you here to play with me?" Iamie questioned. "Lukie won't play with me, cause I ated the last cookie at lunch and didn't share."

Iason smiled at the boy, amused at his antics. "Of course I'll play with you. My name is Iason. What would you like to do?"

"Can we play Candyland?"

"Sure." While the boy looked for the game, Iason took a moment to glance over the child's file.

"What's that?" Iamie asked, as he began to set the game up. "I'm the blue one, tay."

"Just some information about you," he answered. "But I can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to call you. Can you tell me what your name is?"

Iamie giggled. "I'm Iamie. What tolor do you want to play?"

"Why don't you chose for me?"

"Tay. Let's see, you can't be yellow, cause Lukie is yellow, so you can be g'een." He set the two little characters on the board. "Lukie? Do you want to play? No? Otay." He drew a card and then moved his character to the purple square. "I'm gonna go first."

"It seems that you already have." They played through a game, Iason observing the boy's reactions. It had been years since he had played, not having a small one around, and it was as uninteresting to him now as it was then, but it amused the child and that was what mattered.

"I win!" Iamie chirped as he landed on the rainbow square at the end. "Lets do something else now." He glanced around the room, his eyes landing on a pile of blocks. "Blocks!" He darted over to the pile and then glanced back towards Iason. "Are you toming?"

"In a moment," Iason replied, putting the game back in it's box.

"Tay." By the time, Iason had moved over to him, the boy had already started to build a tower out of the brightly colored wooden blocks. He wasn't paying any attention to Iason, almost like he had forgotten that the older man was there, and Iason chose not to interrupt him for the moment. "And when we're done, Lukie, we tan make it fall down." He looked over at Iason. "Tan you hand me the block next to you, pease. I need it for the tower."

Iason looked down to see which block was next to him. There were several different ones lying there. "Do you want the rectangle one or the square?"

"Square." Iason handed it over. "T'anks." He continued to build, asking for blocks as he needed them. They did this for a while, until the tower was taller than the little boy.

The labtech checked her watch. "It's been one hour, Mr. Nyklos. Someone will contact you within a few weeks."

"Alright," Iason said with a nod, and then ruffled the boys hair. "I have to go now."

The little boy pouted. "But, I don't want you to go. We were playing."

"I know, but we have to follow the rules."

"Alwight."

Iason stood up, and walked back over to the table to retrieve the file, before heading towards the door. "Be good kitlit."

"Will try," Iamie answered. "Bye."

He walked out of the room, looking back before he closed the door. The boy had already gone back to his blocks, so Iason shut the door quietly and headed out of the building.

Mentor Reflection

Quote:
"How would you describe your mentoree?"

Iamie is, for lack of a better word, cute. He doesn't have the longest attention span, but is very enthusiastic about what he is doing at the moment.

Quote:
"What does he/she like or dislike especially?"

As far as I can tell, he likes playing with blocks and more than likely other toys like that, Candyland, and his imaginary friend. I'm not sure of his dislikes at the moment.

Quote:
"What behavioral problems do you think he/she may have?"

On first meeting him, I couldn't see any behavioral problems. He was relatively calm, and eager to have someone to play with. He does have a short attention span, but I don't think that is uncommon in younger children, and he may grow out of it.

Quote:

"How are you planning on coping with or correcting them?"

I don't know.

Quote:
"What is your current lifestyle like?"

Currently, my lifestyle is very fluid. I travel a lot for my art shows, but that is easily altered.

Quote:
"Can you accommodate a child?"

Yes. I have enough room in my home to accommodate him, with an extra room that can be used for his bedroom, a decent sized backyard with a swing set, and a flexible enough schedule to adapt to having a child living with me.

Quote:

"Do you have other children and how might they react?"

I have no other children.

Quote:
"How do you think other members of your household will react?"

I don't think that Jade, my cat, will have a problem with him. She is a calm and cuddly cat, and likes most of the children in my neighborhood.

Quote:
"Why do you think you would make a good mentor?"

I'm not sure if I will make a good mentor or not, but I am willing to try. I can provide him with all of his physical needs, such as food and clothing, and I would like to have the chance to fulfill some of his non physical needs as well.

Parent Journal:

Dear Mom and Dad,

Sorry for not writing, but you know how I get. Everything is fine here, I've just been busy working on a new commission. It's coming out well, and I'm almost finished with it. How have you guys been?

I've been applying to adopt or foster a child for a while now, and a few weeks ago I met the little boy that I may get to adopt. His name is Iamie, and he's four years old. I know you're probably upset that I didn't tell you sooner, but I didn't want to tell you until I knew for sure that I had a chance. If all goes well at my next meeting with him, I'll get to bring him home with me, at least I think that's what the lab tech was implying. I've attached a picture that I sketched of him to the email, I hope you find him as cute as I do. He is an adorable little blond with big green eyes. I will warn you though, before you open it, that he doesn't exactly look normal. Don't be alarmed. He's not that much different than a regular child. I'll call you soon.

With love,
Iason

Ps: Are you still planning on coming for Christmas?

Mentor Visit 2

It had been a few weeks since the previous meeting, and now, Iason was heading back to the facility for a second. His instructions had been strange, to say the least, but they didn’t seem to be that difficult. How hard could it be to give the kid a bath, even if the file did have a note about him having an issue with water. He arrived there and proceeded to the room where he was informed that the child would be waiting for him.

The room was relatively plain, with a few toys scattered about its floor, and a large tub off in the corner of the room. Iamie was currently lying on the floor, playing with a pair of toy cars on a road rug, and was being watched over by the technician. “Hey kitlit.”

The boy looked up, and sprung up from where he was laying. “Ason! Did you come to play wif me again? I told Lukie that you’d come back, but he didn’t believe me.”

Iason swooped him up into his arms, and then whispered conspiratorially, “Of course, but I’m under orders. Have to give you a bath first.”

Iamie froze for a moment. A bath? “Down,” he said, and started to wiggle.

Iason put the boy down, but before he could say anything else, Iamie had darted away from him, ducking under a table in the farthest corner of the room to hide. That had been unexpected. He moved over to the table, and sat down on the floor next to it. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

The boy looked at him, pressed as far against the wall as he could get. “Bath bad.”

“Why is the bath bad? Are you afraid of the water?” Iason wasn’t sure what to make of this, realizing that it must be a test for him, to see if he’d be able to handle everything.

“Water not bad. Bath bad.”

That was specific. Iason thought for a moment. “Alright then, kitlit. No bath.”

“Really?”

“Honest. But we still have to get you clean. Do you like the rain?”

Iamie crawled a little closer to him and nodded. “Is pretty.”

“Then I shall summon a rainstorm to get you clean.”

Iamie giggled, and crawled into Iason’s lap. “You’re silly.”

“Of course.” He stood up careful, holding Iamie close. “But we’re going to have to put you into the tub to do it. I don’t think they’d be very happy if I got water all over the room would they.” He carried him over to the tub, and put him down next to it. There was a change of clothes and a towel sitting on a nearby table, and Iason moved them farther away. “Why don’t you take your clothes off and then sit in the empty tub okay? You have to be in there so I can work my magic.”

“ Kay.” Iamie took off his clothes slowly and then sat down in the tub, sitting with his knees to his chest.

“Good job kitlit.” He picked up a toy watering can that he found behind the tub, and after setting it under the faucet, turned the water on to fill it up. Iamie jumped at the sound of the water coming on, but after a moment realized that it wasn’t filling up the tub. Iason turned the water off after a moment, and then turned to Iamie, holding the watering can above his head. “Abracadabra, alakazam, make it rain on top of his head.”

Iamie giggled as the water dripped down on him. “Go way, rain.”

But I don’t want to,” Iason responded, making his voice sound all squeaky. “I’m all lonely, and now I have you to get all clean before I can go away again. But I can’t do that until you’re all covered with my friend Mr. Bubbles.” He picked up the bright green soap bar in his free hand, and spoke in a deeper voice. “Hello little fox. My friend Mr. Rain seems to need some help. Can you cover yourself in my bubbles?

Iamie nodded, and took the soap from Iason. “Ahuh.” He ran the soap all over himself, covering himself in its apple scent, and then handed it back to Iason.

Why what a good job you’ve done little fox,” he said in the deep voice of Mr. Soap. “I think he’s ready for it to rain some more Mr. Rain.” Iason quickly refiled the watering can. "Here it comes!"He continued to rinse the boy off until all of the soap was gone. "It's time for us to go Mr. Rain. Say goodbye to the little fox." The boy giggled again. "Goodbye little fox. I'll see you again." Iason set the flowering pot down, and went over to get the towel. "That wasn't so bad now was it."

Iamie shook his head. "No, it wasn't." Iason wrapped the towel around Iamie, and helped him dry off. "Go ahead and get dressed."

Iamie smiled, and went over to his clothes, getting dressed in the outfit that had been chosen for him.

"Mr. Nyklos? If you would bring Sandfox with you to the reception room, we can get the paperwork filled out, and then he's yours. You can either take him home with you, or we can continue to board him here."

Iason grinned. "What do you think Iamie? Want to come home with me?"

Iamie looked over to him, his shirt on inside out and backwards. "Can I? Really? You want me?"

Iason moved over to him and scooped him up into his arms. "Of course. I have a room ready for you and everything."

He carried him into the other room, and held him on his lap as he filled out and signed all of the paperwork that he was required to. "Alright," the technician said. That's all the paperwork for now. You are now the authorized legal guardian of Iamie Sandfox."
