Oh. Great. What now? Chance shook his head and gestured politely to an empty seat, set against a backdrop of roaring laughter. "Of course you are welcome to join us. Isn't he, boys?" He was answered with various peals of assent, catcalls, a pounding on the table. "Everyone's a friend here." Of course, except for any regulars, nobody knew the other, that was just how it was. Either you were a pit viper or you exchanged quips and teasing.

The fox made a face, but took the offered seat and tried to ignore the impolite noises the others were making. "Thank you, I think I will join your little game here," Astennu said, making himself comfortable on the seat. "Deal me in," he said, glaring at the rest of the table. Especially those who were making rather rude comments loudly. He would show these people he was more than a piece of eye candy who liked to pick fights.

He took up Chance's offer? Oh dear... well if he was going for a 'nice quiet evening,' he probably could have gotten himself a hotel room at a nice hotel... The unicorn bore several glares with as much dignity as he could muster. With any luck this guy was only doing this to save face and was really no good at gambling. But why would he go to a casino alone if he was not any good?

Ah well... Astennu had honestly not gambled much, so if he did win, it would probably be from sheer dumb luck. But yes, mostly he was sticking around to save face. That was only for him to know, though. He kept quiet and glared at the other players, hoping he would be able to play well enough in the game. it would not do very well for him to lose horribly.

Chance kept his eye mostly on his cards and his chips. But like everyone else, he was sizing up his new opponent. He was just doing it without sharing in the others' hostility. He was here to have fun tonight. It was not about business. So far, it would seem that either Astennu was indeed green, or he was taking a while to warm up... Hmm... Glancing once more at his cards, he raised the bet.

Astennu tried to keep a blank face as he played, hoping to any god that would listen that he would at least not be the lowest of the low in the game. He tried not to squeak as Chance raised the bet, glancing back at his cards again. It seemed tonight Lady Luck was not going to be blessing his hand.

Chance raised a brow lightly at the almost-reaction. Had he seen it, or had he imagined it? He paid closer attention (out of the corner of his eye) as others folded, checked, or raised their bets...

The fox was completely lost. This game wasn't quite what he had thought and now he was in deep trouble. He had no idea what to do, so he just sighed and folded. Better to be safe than sorry, right? Plus, Astennu had lost enough of Sirius and Youko's money. They were going to find out eventually and make him pay it back when they found out.

Chance played out the hand. Everyone there could guess where Astennu stood, though it was admirable his efforts. In the end, the unicorn won nothing either (though overall he had made a few extra bucks, enough to pay for drinks and such), but he really did not care. He pulled away from the table. "Nice playing with you guys," he nodded to everyone, including the arctic fox. Then he took what was left of his chips to go cash them.

Astennu sighed once the game was over. Thank the gods. He hadn't won anything and had lost just a few dollars, so he didn't think he played that badly. The fox's eyes followed Chance as he left the table, even as he politely thanked the others for the nice game.

Once all that crap was over, Astennu scurried after Chance, though why was beyond him. Maybe he hoped to get a lay out of the unicorn, or maybe he was just lonely, but the fox didn't want to try and figure it out. Following his instincts seemed to make for more interesting outcomes.

Perhaps it was the snickering behind him or a hunch that alerted Chance to the fact that the fox was following him. Damn... Squaring his jaw he went to the counter and cashed out his chips. Then, well he had no choice but to almost run into him. "Oh, didn't see you there," he grinned a little sheepishly before starting back toward the bar for the drink he had been wanting earlier.

He paused, scowling at the unicorn. It seemed they were going back to being rude to each other now. "Oh sure you didn't. Did you honestly think that I would leave you alone so easily?" Astennu inquired as he followed Chance to the bar. So... he was probably making a fool of himself, tagging along with the other hybrid but Astennu didn't really care. It wasn't as if he was planning on returning to this casino.

"You really do assume the worst of people, don't you?" Chance sighed inwardly. So apparently he was not going to be loose of this guy anytime soon. It would have been different if he were remotely nice, or fun...

He ordered a drink and waited for it, turning back to the fox. "So what is it you want from me?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 17, 2008 2:41 pm

"Yes. Because then I can be surprised in a good way if they act nicely," Astennu replied easily. At the question though, the fox shrugged. "I don't know. But you seem to be the type of guy that can find something interesting to occupy our time," he replied. "Am I assuming wrongly again?"

"Tonight you are. I came here to relax, but I haven't gotten much of that done yet..." Chance eyed the fox dubiously. Then the bartender slid his drink over and the unicorn found in his glass a nice distraction. Admittedly most people do not go to their typical place of work to unwind, but Chance was one of those rare cases.
