The ache seemed to last an eternity in seconds past, though through it all filtered the soft voice of Juli. He lowered his eyelids, took in a deep breath and as they opened the gold glittered with instinctive, manly rage.
"You'll be sorry alright -" A paw shot out, clenched 'round the frail white wrist. He pulled him over his shoulder and decisively launched his fangs onto the dandelion bunny tail.

One could possibly blame innate rabbit nature for his gulibility - one could probably blame innate rabbit nature for not only designating him prey, but providing such obvious bullseyes for predatorial wrath.
And when pride wrestled with sheer blinding terror as the aforementioned 'skull-piercing cuspids' rushed towards sensitive bits of anatomy, one could certainly blame bunny nature for pride's swift and shameful defeat as sheer blinding terror did the only thing it could think of to do.
Burst into tears.

He released his tail in bewilderment - both at the fact he was sobbing and the fact that he even felt, well, bad. He didn't recall it bothering him when he was a youth, but it certainly did now.
"Hey," he said, awkwardly lowering him to the carpet. "Hey, you alright? It's not like I bit that hard or anything, but you're always like this..." It sounded like he muttered 'peas and' under his breath as he roughly patted the bunny's head.
It was very awkward.

Mortification. This stinging bite was worse than any earthly tooth's and Julien hated that that was something he could never seem to remember till after the terror had passed. He wiped at his eyes fiercely, roughly jerking away from the descending paw as he fumbled for his glasses, "'M not crying. Just got something in my eye."

"I didn't say you were crying, but as long as you're, uh, having something in your eye," he said, bemused, "I could uh, try to find that hairdryer of yours so you'll stop dripping all over the place."
He reached under the cushion and produced the offending object. Tossing it from hand to hand, he lamely exclaimed "My, my. Look at where these things get. That sofa is dangerous, isn't it?"
Before the bunny could finish getting something out of his eye and whack his family jewels once more, he dropped it on the carpet; and with his hands free, started to gather the stray strands of hair with his paws.
"I could, uh, I could also dry your hair for you, if you'd like."

Julien blinked - once, twice; he turned away sharply, attempting to hide the rising colour in his cheeks by pushing his frames back onto his face. They fought so often, he'd forgotten how soft feline paws could be, and now...now, they felt quite nice, brushing against his shoulders intermittently as they carefully detangled damp, rumpled locks.
It was times like this; brief, rare moments, when the jaguar tumbled awkwardly over words - words that usually flowed like quicksilver to bind women's affections - when he almost but never quite apologised, then tried to make up for that gap between action and intention in other, clumsier, ways...that he remembered why he could call this bane of his life 'best friend'.
"Maxwell, you idiot," he said quietly, trying to hide the small smile that tugged at the corners of lips, "don't act like you weren't the one who put it there in the first place."

"I can't say it like that," he mused as he sat on the sofa, plugging the hairdryer in. "I've got to keep it consistent, you know." He tugged the ends of Juli's hair gently to guide him over to his feet.
"Let's stop you from dripping."
And for five minutes the jaguar and bunny were seated in companionable silence, with the low thrum of the hairdryer underlining their peaceful resolution.
"Hey.
Maybe it'll dry faster if I stuff it all in the microwave. Ya think?"
