Kel spent the rest of the day milling about his shop. He cleaned up the stray tools and metal parts from tables, placing them in boxes and storage crates. He swept the floors and wiped down the equipment. He even took time out to return to a few old projects and finish them.

At the end of the day, Kel nailed up a banner outside the door to the parlor. It read in big letters.

He sat upon the porch, with a large glass of sun tea as he watched the sunset.

In a brilliant flash of white light, Maryl fell a few feet down, landing on her back before someone's house. She let out a forced out cry from her landing and having the wind knocked out of her. She sat up dazed and confused looking around. "Uh... were am I?" she moaned shaken up from the last few minutes.

((You know there's other people in this guild right? confused ))

Kel looked up hearing some noise. He covered his eyes as light flashed just beyond his porch. He mumbled some incoherent phrases under his breath as he stood up from his chair and walked down the steps to see what happened.

He scratched his head noticing some worried looking little girl draped in black sitting on the ground in front of his house. He shrugged and looked up at the sky. "Seriously?"

((Come on, be a sport. I'm sticking with the familiar. Besides I just put an umbral hole in Pelions bay to get here.))

Maryl jumped, startled by the presence of the man behind her. She hurried to her feet and began to back away from him. "um... Please sir, I don't know how this happened. I wasn't trying to cause a ruckus. I'm lost and... and..." She was visibly shaken again wondering what's going to happen. She really had no idea where she could be and felt like a cornered wounded animal barely able to stand and faced with a bigger beast.

Kel took a deep breath and sighed. Ok... no sudden moves, this kid will probably wet herself if this keeps up. Clearing his throat, Kel spoke up. "Hey, relax. I'm not here to hurt you." Attempting to become a little more inviting, he held out his arms to the side, and lowered himself to one knee so he wasn't so tall. "Is there something I can do to help?"

Maryl looked at Kel reluctantly. It was reasonable that he wasn't trying to be vicious but he looked like he was trying to approach a five year old. She did notice however that he was fairly tall even on one knee. "Wh-where am I?" She didn't want to make any sudden movements and make him hostile, but to prepare any spells she knew she'd have to let go of her staff. Instead she gripped it tightly waiting for his response.

Kel rested his elbow on his knee for a second before standing up again. "We're at the outskirts of the capital city of the world. It's not exactly the safest place to be lately though. More importantly, you're at my home and shop. We're closed right now." He started toward his porch again, beckoning the child to follow him. "Come on, I'll bet you're hungry." As he stepped up onto the porch he looked back upon the sun now just peeking over the horizon through the trees and over the city.

Maryl remembered her hunger after all the fear and thirst of her trip to the bay subsided. Well, now's not a time to be picky. I did sort of fall on his yard. She smiled bashfully and followed after him. Heading into the man's house, she thought back for a moment in a bit of precaution. I hope he's not some sort of pervert. If He is, I think I know just the trick to deal with him. She grinned slyly to herself as she stood at the doorway.

Kel let the girl walk in and shut the door behind him. He took his glass to the kitchen but began speaking as he walked off. "What's your name, slick?" He took a finishing chug of his drink as he turned into the kitchen. He put the glass in the sink and rummaged about to find some food. He continued speaking from the kitchen, "My name is Kel, Kel Theranos. I live and work here. this is my store, The Cataclysm's Edge." Kinda ironic for what's been going on lately.

Slick?! Look at him, he doesn't know how to speak to women at all. She rolled her eyes before looking across the room. She had forgotten how long it had been since she had been inside a house. Usually unless she was working, or staying at an Inn people didn't take her seriously. Her distraction with the appearance of the interrior of the man's house and his treatment of her thus far faded when she heard his name. "oh... My name is Maryl. Maryl Ester. I'm a traveling fortune teller."

"A fortune teller huh? At that age? What about your parents?" Kel came back from the kitchen with some rice, broccoli, and chicken on a plate. He set it down on the coffee table with some utensils. He took a seat in his chair. He thought for a moment, inspecting the girl from his position. She looks no older than Seth. I'm sort of curious as to how she could teleport herself here and be completely lost like that. Probably some misfired spell.

Maryl practically dove at the plate, eating in a hurry. It had also been a while since she had an actual plate of food for a meal. Halfway through her meal she began to respond to Kel's questions, still interrupted by chewing. "I... never really knew about my parents. Can I have something to drink too? I've been at the orphanage as long as I can remember. I set out on my own a year or two ago after it burned down." She took a particularly long pause before continuing. "I tell fortunes so I can get by, it's been a little slow lately."

Kel listened intently, still left in wonder as to how the whole situation came about. His kid goes flying off on some big adventure, and another kid plops down on his doorstep like that. Maybe children like him. This was the first time this has happened though. He shrugged and shook his head. "Of course." he stood up and scrambled off to the kitchen and took a clean cup, filling it with some sun tea and a few pieces of ice. As he returned, he set the cup down on the coffee table before Maryl and went back to his seat. "I know all about slow. Patience is a virtue with this job."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 10:54 pm

"What is your job? I'll bet it pays well for you to live like this." As she finished her food, she picked up the cup of tea and chuged it down quickly. She took a deep breath and sighed before burping loudly.

Maryl put her hands together and bowed to Kel "Thank you for the meal, sir." She sat up on the floor, and shifted her seated position, bringing her knees to her chest. "So what about you? Are you alone too?"

((Ok.))

"I'm a metalworker. If it's something you need to make from metal, tools, parts, things like that. I mostly specialize in arms and armor though. I even add enchants to them. It pays pretty well. usually daring adventurers from all across the globe come to see me about new equipment." He got up from his chair and collected the clean plate and empty cup, taking them toward the kitchen. "No, I don't live alone. I have my daughter. She's about your age actually."
