hoo. just got back from SDCC myself, and I'm trying to compose my rant about this whole damn thing.

Ok, honestly, I laughed. but seeing the "forbidden Love" at the start gave me a bad feeling.

It was amusing, at first. But then it just went too far.

"Anyone who thinks Zuko and Katara should end up together is DOOMED to have failed relationships?!"

*Holds up left hand* Alright, Bryke, then what THE HELL is this that you see on THIS Zutarian's finger?? I'll tell you since you can't even see the truth in your own damn show, it's a fecking PROMISE RING from my boyfriend of ALMOST 7 FECKING YEARS!!!

way to go and prove a bunch of 13 year old a*****e kataanger trolls right, Bryke. Way to freakin' go. I honestly defended you guys from people like this, who I thought disgraced you and your story by being the assholes they were to every one of us, your LOYAL, TENACIOUS and FIERCEST(not to mention richest lol) fans. I regarded you on the level of respect, skill and GENIUS of MIYAZAKI, as have a LOT of Zutarians who had faith until the BLOODY end...but you guys threw it back in our faces and proved who was the biggest couple of asses of all.

And seriously. Using our FANART against us? For god's sakes. If I were Seto-Angel, and that stuff was used without my permission, I would be raising hell right now.

Well, you're bloody welcome guys!!! I feel so appreciated. A feckin year of my artistic development and time, and they practically spit on it.

Whatever, not like I don't have someone else to give it to. Screw Mike and Bryan, my art is for the ZUTARIANS who saw the freakin' TRUTH of the show when the two guys who created it can't get a clue about it! I'm still doing some Zutara art, but it's not for Avatar anymore, not what it's BECOME, anyway. It's become a tacky, cliched, corny and infuriating gimmick that I thought it wasn't.

Spiritbending made aang a Mary sue, Bryke made aang a disgusting possessive whiny brat who gets everything he ever wanted without ever giving something up, and he now quite honestly looks like the type of guy who would grow up to become some controlling and possessive boyfriend.

Meanwhile MAI comes back and all but threatens Zuko to never break up with her again under penalty of getting stabbed in the night. Dude. Now THAT right there, is LOVE in it's purest form.

Katara totally gets her character kicked to the curb with her "confusion" issues and how they MAGICALLY disappear, and it makes this STRONG female character who I've always love seem like nothing more than a FECKING prize to a whiny brat...

Ursa gets a mere footnote....

And book 4 is just so stupid. Why go with a shipping thing to end things? Why did the intro guy and Mike and Bryan say, oh, we have a very special surprise for you today about a new season or whatever? WHY DID THEY make it sound like something LEGIT? That only hurt them worse.

I honestly thought maybe they had some storyboards from the finale, maybe a deleted scene, and when I was REALLY hopeful, a bit of an alternate ending...SOMETHING.
But that was just disgracful.

Everyone will be happy, huh? well. Not when you pull stunts like this out of your a**.

They're just two nerds with a holier-than-thou complex because the show is so friggin popular now.
So they hate us, let them, the feeling is quite mutual now.
Thems just cranky majority of the fandom don't follow them shipping-wise.

This isn't the first time Bryke has said stuff like this to us. Most of you probably already know this, but if you read the interview with them in the Sozin's Comet book, you'll see what I mean. They're all like "Come on kids, Zutara never would have worked." Um, excuse me, aren't most of the Zutara shippers older than most of the Kataang shippers?!

I wasn't able to watch the Comic Con videos, but I can't believe they said that about us! Personally, I've never been in a relationship, but that was honestly a very stupid thing to say. Great job, Bryke, you just further alienated half your fanbase.

I did see part of the Forbiden Love video, but I didn't watch the whole thing cause it seemed stupid.

I agree with Teh_Sheba, that they shouldn't have ended it with shipping. Even if Katara had ended up with Zuko, I wouldn't have wanted it to end with them kissing. The show is about way more than romance. The best way for it to have ended would have been at an afterparty or something after the big speech Zuko and Aang gave. Maybe have had them all talk about there plans now that the war is over, and have breifly mentioned shipping then.

Another thing unrelated to shipping that annoys me is everyone is all like "What about Zuko's mom!?", which I totally agree with, but I also think they should have mentioned Toph. I mean, they made a huge deal in "The Runaway" about Toph's relationship with her parents and she used a hawk to send them a message. You would think that maybe her parents would apper somewhere after they defeated the firelord and be all like "We're sorry for being so strict and we're proud of you." or at the very least get a message from her parents via messenger hawk. I guess the creaters had to take that out for the tea shop and Kataang kissing scene. And what about Aang being told he had to let go of Katara in season 2? I guess the laws of canon no longer apply to the series finale then.

Anyway, I think that Bryke has wanted to say stuff like this and didn't want to show the trailer at NYCC 2008, but that Nickelodeon or someone advised them to try to not alienate any section of the fanbase before the finale or something because it would affect the ratings. Since Bryke already had a good relationship with the Kataangers, they probably knew they had to establish a good relationship with the Zutarians to keep them watching the show. That's why they showed the NYCC trailer. Either that or they like playing sick headgames with us, which is possiable.

Anyway, I have a fanfic type theory that might cheer you guys up. Most people have probably been writing fanfics using it, but I haven't read any fanfic other than Stormbenders in a year so here it is:
With Aang and Katara there's a huge culture clash. I mean, come on! Aang is a vegitarian and the Water Tribe mostly hunts and eats seafood, which is meat. Aang dislikes sea prunes, which is probably one of the few vegtable Water Tribe foods. Aang would probably not want to live in the Water Tribe. Aang is a nomad who likes to travel, but I think Katara would want to settle down and stay in one place. There's no way it could work. We've seen in previous episodes how they get on each others nerves. They'll probably break up before Mai and Zuko, but still be friends. Meanwhile, Zuko and Mai would probably fight often. Mai can be very manipulative and likes to boss people around, as shown in Nightmares and Daydreams when she shows enjoyment in ordering the servents around. She's also not a good listener, while Zuko always likes to talk about his problems. Mai also always tries to be the dominant on in the relationship as shown in the finale. Mai will probably break up with Zuko, but Zuko will try to still be friends with her. With Katara and Zuko, there's less of a culture clash. The Fire Nation is islands, so they probably eat a lot of fish. In The Puppetmaster, Hama mentioned that one plant that tasted like sea prunes. Katara is good listener, unlike Mai and she probably already likes Fire Nation food from eating it in most of Season 3. Since Katara and Zuko are friends, they'll probably still see each other and after both the break ups someone (Iroh, Ursa, Master Pakku, Ty Lee or someone else) might suggest that they would make a good couple, or they'll realize it on their own and get together. Anyway that's my post Avatar theory (sorry for going a bit off topic). I'm sure lots of people have the same one, or GreenifyMe or someone has already said this, but I wanted to type it just in case.

Even though Avatar is over and Bryke has insulted us, we still have the memories of all the good times we had with the show. We have our fanart, our fanfiction, our theories and everything else that makes us Zutarians the Zutarians. Remember that Bryke can't take that away from us!

I agree with everything you've said. I would've liked a slightly more ship-neutral ending, but no, Bryke wanted their Kataang spotlight. :/ And there's a lot of things left unanswered that would've been a much better use of that time.

I'm actually brainstorming a fanfic that deals with some of those problems. =D I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what Katara and Aang would argue about (Katara has shown that she doesn't like yelling at Aang, since he's so sensitive. xP), but this gave me some ideas. Thanks!

Anyyyways, I'm over the whole Bryke thing. Writing post-Finale fics helps a lot 8D
And besides, we all know Maiko won't last, it didn't last time.
"Just don't break up with me." But wasn't she the one to call it off the first time? xD
If they didn't last long the first time, I doubt they'll survive a third :/
As for Kataang, they have too many differences, their age being the main problem, because 12 and 14 are eons apart, mentaly and physically.
So, meh. Bryke can run around in lala-canon land while we enjoy our fanon and fiction 3nodding
