Oh and after consultation with my attorney, I intercept any replies of "That's not canon, that is a made up story" with if it walks like a funny-book, and it talks like a funny-book, it's a funny-book!

LS.

Doesnt mean it counts in continuity. Your attorney is a fool. If just somebody made up some addendum to the Bill of Rights, would it be an Amendment? No, it would not. Duh?

So now that I know that there is a canonical Superman and Batman must I foresake the Flying Spaghetti Monster as my one true savior?

Canon schmanon.

A funny-book is a funny-book.

Oh, and I guess in further reply continuity-schmontinuity.

Comics publishers don't give a fig for continuity. They are placed in the world to sell books and advertising not so that we can all turn our hymnals to Clark Kent, Chapter 3, verse 32.

Fiction is fiction and well, funny-books are funny-books.

You know, I told him if he brought up DKR, it would be like putting steaks on his chest and jumping into a pack of wild dogs. What's he do? Puts barbeque sauce on WITH the steak.

Thats a load of crap and we both know it. There is a canon, or one continuous universe, and they attempt to stick to its past events.

The Dark Knight Returns is an awesome graphic novel, last I checked considered to be one of the premier graphic novels ever, alongside such greats as The Watchmen...I don't think it's really fair to call it a gift to the fan boys. It contrasts the conflicting natures of supes and bats very well...but it's definately not canon.
Could Batman kill superman in a face to face straight up fight? NO. Could batman kill superman in the return of the dark knight, even AFTER supes had been almost killed by a nuke and weakened by kryptonite gas? NOPE. If you've read the novel, superman looks sad as he offhandedly breaks three of bruce's ribs. Even in that novel he was no match for supes straight up.
But...if anyone ever had to kill superman, it would be batman. Batman is DC's version of odysseus, and I just think he'd find a way. I'd hold that batman has a plan for killing superman covertly if he needed to...I don't see Batman not having some kind of contingency plan for defeating the most powerful thing around. I'm sure he has ready computer acces to the JL computer systems, and I'd say that they have some kind of technology that could hurt supes.
Can the bat beat supes in a fight though? Certainly not.
But can he sneak up on him? Definately. All he needs is a proper tool, the correct motivation, and an unaware supes and I'd guess that he could do it.
Then again, it's only a guess.

Oh, and you said you wanted speculation, so....
If batman new the stakes where high enough, his "moral code" would go away pretty quick. I'd wager the good of the many far outweighs the good of the few for bats...so lets say he decides to assasinate Hal and take his GL ring. I don't think any other character in DC exemplifies the word "willpower" more then the bat.
Just a fanciful idea, for fun.

Pfft...snort...BWAHAHAHAH! No way possible.

Anyway, Batman is not the smartest person in comics, or even in his own universe. And he's certainly not the best martial artist. And theres no way he can bring enough damage to take down Superman (who has taken blasts meant to destroy the solar system before) without Clark noticing.

P.S. Batman is MUCH more of a Boy Scout than Superman. What with his Deus Ex Machina utility belt, and his lack of ever killing someone, even though Superman has, well, you get the idea.

P.P.S. Batman could never assasinate a GL. And that Tower of Babel crap, where he indirectly blinded me? Yeah, that was complete bullshit. Quite a few times before that I showed that I could wield the ring without sight. So can Guy Gardner. Heck, so can we all. And for your information, nobody in DC has more willpower than the Green Lanterns, especially Hal and Kyle. Ever see what happened when Ollie tried to use the ring?

Ok I got one. Let say Superman vs Batman, at Nintendo. Take a normal SNES and have Superman and Batman play each other at these four games.

Super Street Fighter 2
Tetris
F-Zero
Super Mario Brothers 1 (Who can beat the ENTIRE game the fastest with the most coins etc)

Each is give one earth hour prep time to play and pratice any one of the four games as many times as they like. Normal settings on all games with the same amount of tries, lives, continues etc. for both. No cheat codes.

I see Batman dominating the feild. I takes on the likes of Riddler and other brain-bending villians, so I dont see him having much trouble with a few video games.

I haven't seen one way that Batman could possibly harm Superman yet . . .
PostPosted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 5:29 pm

Rancid B.O. offending the super senses? xd

Batman used to kill a LOT of people, back in the day wink but then they went and softened him up.
Again he can sneak up on him, so if he managed to get any weapon capable of killing him, he'd get the win with a stealth kill.

And I've yet to see "that time" and the "once and for all" quite yet, Mr. Rayner.

First, there is no level of unpreparedness for Batman. He has already ran intense simulation and has fueled several research think tanks and developed new technologies and corporations solving the "What if Superman tries to take me down if I am unprepared" question.

The Detective wins.

Simple explanation:

Superman's behavior can be manipulated because he operates on a simplistic moral code where there are no shades of grey. Grey is what bats is all about.

Why even if it took a super exoskeleton hooked to the entire gotham power grid, a terrorist bombing threat, and a one armed Green Arrow hanging out of a helicopter shooting arrows with his teeth, Bats wins.

Oh wait, that is what he did the, perhaps not first but, best time he knocked Superman down a peg.

LS.

I love you for saying that, even if batman didn't win that fight. And it was a DAMN FINE GRAPHIC NOVEL (neener, neener, neeeeeeener). I just wish that batman could have supes' powers for one day just so he could show the boyscout what a man fights like (sorry, I couldn't resist).

xd xd xd xd

Edit--Besides, the Karate Kid (from the legion of super hero's) knew a form of kryptonian martial arts that included a nerve hold that could totally debilitate superman without ever needing to be able to physically hurt him. I'd think batman might have picked up on this particular trick, just in case....

Thanks!

Hey you know what. Let's define canon instead of waving it around.

Here's an idea. If it Overstreets for more than a buck fifty it's canon.

Sarcasm sure, but if "canon" is your last line of defense then lets go ahead and define it instead of just waving it around.

Oh and back to the discussion.

Lots of folks have brought up that Bats ain't so bright.

Superman has had the same entry level job since the '30's. That shows that he isn't so bright and above all lacks ambition.

Yeah I'd like to see an official description of what is and isn't canon (I know what you guys hold to be canon on supes) from the comic companies.
Awww all my old comics aren't canon....damn you $1.25!!!! crying
Damnit bat's is bright. Like I said, he's DC's version of Odysseus...the mortal who can defeat powers far greater then himself through the application of wit and intelligence. More importantly he's a devious mind. I really don't see many other characters as underpowered as he is floating around the JL...and there HAS to be a reason.
Besides, if we believe what the canon states supes' super hearing is capable, batman is the stealthiest b*****d in the universe. Evidently he's harder to hear then an alien civilization in peril a galaxy away rofl We call that skills.
