I always have dark dreams too... lately people die in my dreams every night, and I feel sick when I wake up. sometimes I am glad I am an insomniac

I don't think I even dream anymore....the last dream I can remember happened when I was seven.....but it was a nightmare, does that count? Actually, I've only had nightmares/no dreaming, I dont think I've ever had a dream that I can remember. Thats long enough for me to assume I don't dream.

Thats long enough for me to assume I don't dream. well remembering dreams or not depends on how well you sleep, and how quickly you wake up. if you dont interrupt the rem cycle you are dreaming in, you stop dreaming before you wake up, and it is extremely likely you wont remember it. You do dream though, everyone dreams about 2-3 times a night, and most people only remember the last one... dreaming is the brains way of processing the information we receive during the day, and a way to try to sort out hopes, fears stress ect

I have to occasionally practice remembering my dreams

It might be that you don't get enough REM-sleep, you just go from light sleep to deep sleep and back, and almost skip the actual dreaming part.
