Now that sounded familiar. Admittedly the name of the individual that Cyn recalled was not 'Gabriel' but it appeared that during his slumber a lot of creatures of such qualities had been born. There was no distinct difference between 'dark' and 'light' as there had been in his youth. Kalona and Skinwalker had once been the only evil to stalk the lands, however it seemed that somehow...many decades on the blood of the younger generations had been warped and shaped by a corrupt hand. While Cyn understood that change was necessary in the world, he was not sure if he approved of quite as much of a change.
Looks could be decieving that much was true, but there had to be a limit.
"I am sorry to hear that not all of your experiences have been pleasant," his voice was genuine despite the rather obvious nature of the statement. He hadn't realised how severe the situation had become. Yes, he fought tooth and nail against one fallen 'angel', but he hadn't anticipated that there would be more and more of them cropping up. It really made the stallion wonder exactly what he had missed when he had locked himself away in slumber. He had missed far too much, apparently.
"They say looks can be deceiving but that much is an understatement according to my observations," he was aware his words sounded wrong given he couldn't see but on some levels he could. Shifting his weight, he nudged one hoof against the other to remove an itch and encouraged his lips to form a smile as he moved onto lighter topics. He would sooner not dwell on darker subjects, they were something he would deal with in due course on a more personal level.
"That being said there is always light at the end of the tunnel and they say that those friends you meet while wandering are those you will keep for life," he chuckled softly and canted his head to the side, the silver tip of his horn twinkling in the sun's light. "If you meet this stallion again, you will know for sure if he is your friend for life - a second meeting always ensures as much," the Angeni mused before falling silent. Admittedly there were few outside the slopes he re-encountered...it was a shame really, as some were quite fascinating creatures.

She shook out her hair and snorted slightly. "I don't expect all encounters to be good ones. In fact, I've made it my personal business to discover the bad things in the lands so that I might understand them." She softened and gave him a smile, despite the fact he would not see it. He'd surely hear it in her voice, she reasoned. "Thank you for your sympathy though." She hadn't meant to encounter Gabriel. She had honestly thought him an angel of light and had run up to him with bright hopes. It was the first time she had learned that not all creatures in the world were pure and was the inspiration behind her quest. In a way, she owed Gabriel. "Looks certainly ARE deceiving. By your looks I'd have judged you a harsher stallion than you are. I'm pleasantly surprised." Her voice rang with an underlying laughter, a joy that none have ever stolen from her. "Those we meet more than once are friends for life, sure enough, but I fear many more that are met in one's travels are but fleeting things. They're no less valuable, in my experience. I've learned great things from everyone I've met, including you. Should I never see you again, I shall still remember you for all my days."

"I will not lie to you when I say you walk a worrying path," The Angeni furrowed his brow beneath his mountain of hair and shook his head. It seemed that there were so many intent on seeking out evil, the fallen but few seemed to comprehend the true consequences of such actions. While the Angeni wasn't going to give the unicorn a full fledged lecture about her own safety, he would not lie to her and encourage her to pursue such dark creatures so willingly either. To say he was paternal at heart was an understatement, he most definitely had his moments.
"However, so long as you are aware of the dangers and take precautions to protect yourself then I can do nothing to discourage you," his tone was easy, softened to ensure that he wouldn't be misunderstood. If he had his way, the younger generations would receive the occasional questionable encounter but it should never be a repetitive event. As a creature of balance he understood the importance of recognising both sides of the coin - as a creature of balance he also understood the importance of discovering that the world wasn't quite so nice.
...That being said, if it was her goal then he could only send her away with his blessings and well wishes. So long as the mare could protect herself (even slightly) she was better prepared than most he had met.
"That being said it would not be the first time that someone has mistaken me for a monster, dark creatures are often the first to be misunderstood..." he agreed slowly, a small smile lifting his lips again. It wasn't a definitive smile and would disappear again shortly but it was enough to make his words genuine. "As I say to every creature I meet and to my students...trusting your instincts is often the most powerful weapon you possess."
"If your gut says run, be wary - no?"

"My path may be worrisome, but it is full of purpose. I want to understand the evil creatures of the lands so that I might better serve my mother's herd." She shook her mane gently, shrugging off the topic. "I walk with caution, and besides," she laughed and stomped her cloven feet, " I can outrun anything that comes my way!" She boasted with the overconfidence of youth, but her courage was no less real. She would face any danger, mostly because she'd never known anything that had harmed her. Even the terrible Gabriel had left her unharmed. It was something she didn't quite understand, but it lent more credence to her pride and courage. She felt that nothing could possibly harm her, and even the meeting with this dark stallion was proving this to her young mind. "Well, black is such an imposing color and you are so very large. Being beside you makes one feel small and powerless, simply for your stature and darkness. I would hardly call you a monster. That is something that is within, not without. If I've learned one thing in my life, it's that looks are meaningless."

Her lesson in regards to appearance was one he taught all his students and had strived to teach his adopted son. It had taken many years to overcome the emotional abuse his son had endured but eventually he had come to the same conclusion. While looks could often serve a purpose, the immediate quirks of an individual did not always necessarily denote their personality. It had been an upwards battle but at last respite had been permitted and as he fell in love, his confidence had sky rocketed...Cyn couldn't have been more proud.
Nevertheless he could do nothing other than to smile faintly at the rest of her words. Their naive nature gave away her youth but he was well aware that there would be no telling one of such a young age. Experiences were a personal thing, he would ensure his smile remained somewhat wry but he wouldn't correct her. In time she would no doubt encounter dangerous creatures who would not leave her untouched, they would scar and torment her but it was her lesson to learn. He could only hope that she had the strength to learn and grow from them, as opposed to falling at the first hurdle.
Her death would not be something he would wish for.
"You make very confident remarks," he observed after a few moments and shook his head, mane rippling against his broad neck. "While I will not take up your challenge, it bid you good luck at securing such a title." Bowing his head lightly he took a step back and gave himself a rather abrupt shake. Dust puffed out into the air, exposing a rather thick coat beneath - ah yes, as a mountain Soquili he would always have a puffy coat. Unfortunately it did make things rather warm...
"As for my size, I believe my fur is partially responsible for that..."

She smiled at him, understanding that he saw her as an impetuous youth. Perhaps it was true, but she was determined to stay her course. Remembering her purpose, she began looking out to the path ahead, only partially listening to the large stallion beside her. "I am a confident mare," she replied to him, glancing his way once more. "And one on a mission, my large and fluffy friend." She chuckled, offering him a friendly smile. "I hope to meet you again someday, but for now I fear the road calls to me." She gave him a respectful bow of her head, hoping he would catch the gesture from her somehow. "I wish you luck in you own travels. Fare well!" With that her hooves were in motion once again, carrying her to new places and new dangers, though as she left she felt the words of the dark angeni would stick with her as she traveled. She was a fair distance from him when she paused and looked back at him, whispering a thanks to the wind before continuing on.
