"Oh, so you were just traveling through to begin with? And here I thought you maybe wandered astray from your home grounds." The mare shrugged the case either way, not minding much. Another question was to bubble from her mouth, before Hidalgo gave a full body shake and expanded another dust cloud. Nostrils sneezed and her feathers stood on end from the action before she shook her head, somewhat embarrassed.

"Oh not at all. Natural hues are far more useful afterall in survival. They're nice." She flicked her tail once more, reminded of her slight aggitation before walking around a patch of bushes. And just there was a clear and shallow creek. "There you go."

Hidalgo shook his head. I don't really have home grounds. I spend most of my time on the plains, but I don't really have a place I say. I have been everywhere, from forest to desert, to ocean side. Everywhere is my home ground, and yet no where is. He stepped beside her as she moved around the bushes, and saw the clear creak. Thank you very much. It looks wonderful.

He stepped forward, and set his front hooves in the cool water, before lowering his muzzle to the clear water; leaving a small brown circle as the dirt was washed off of it. He drank deeply, feeling refreshed as the cool water felt like it spread around him. Taking a few more steps forward, he rested all for feet in the cool stream, letting the crisp water cool him down. At one point he submerged his entire muzzle in the water, blowing air out of his nostrals so he could help clean the dirt from them. Hidalgo lifted his head, the creed water dripping from his muzzle to leave small ripples below. Would you like anything to drink?

Ears perked in honest attention now, tinted with...daresay, adrenaline. "The ocean? You've seen the ocean?" Her teal eyes widened and she looked upward as her thoughts drifted. She remembered her desire to see such a body of water, a long time ago as a foal. To just dart back and forth across the edge of that endless blue, much grander than any lake. Smiling to herself, she lowered her gaze back to the creek. "And in that experience alone, you have my admiration, Hidalgo." Wasn't it every rogue's dream to see distant lands on solitary treks, eventually?

Making room for the other to drink, the mare simply stood aside. She could hold out without water for long, and she had already quenched herself earlier in the day. Alert senses kept in use while Hidalgo freshened up. After all, the forest was home to more than just soquili. "Hm? No thank you. I take it that you're doing well though?"

Hidalgo looked up from his drink, and cocked his ears in surprise. You've never seen the ocean? It's a spectacular sight. It's really cold, and it tastes like salt, but you'd never know that watercould have no end. Though, there aren't many soquili around these parts that have made it there. I guess I've only made it that far because I don't have anyone to travel with, and no herd to be with. So I've been able to let my feet travel and go everywhere. Hidalgo took a moment to lower his legs, and roll in the creek, removing the rest of the dirt from his coat. As he stood, streamers of mud could be seen dripping down his sides, and his white patches looked much whiter. Then he shook and dislodged some more of his dirt, and then turned and walked out of the creek; shaking himself again.

The mare shook her head in certainty. "Never have seen it before. Only through word of mouth of a stranger have I imagined it." A lake, but endless and much more fascinating and lively. Though she snorted at this new information given. "Tastes like salt? How....well, I wasn't expecting that." So it was not like the refreshing clear waters of the forests? How odd.

Setsumi also took in the differences of their lifestyles. No herd to wait up on, and all the freedom an individual could ever need. Except that Setsumi found refuge in the hidden paths of the woods, instead of out in the open. Just imagine all the trouble that could lurk up for lone mares. Almost too many. Eyes winced as the stallion shook of water, some droplets slapping against her own coat. At least now she could see the white specks on his body.

I forgot to mention, it roars too. There are large waves, bigger the I am, and they have a power behind them like a pouncing predator. They can nock you off your feet. He looked back at the creek. The water isn't soft like here. It's... hard. It can really hurt you, much like a flash-flood can, if you're not careful.

"Really now?" Waves bigger than a grown male, that certainly seemed daunting. Even so, it was something the mare would enjoy seeing, even if from a distance. "Ah, I guess it's best to stay in the dry sands and keep aware of the water level." If calm enough she imagined it was a joyful, if not freezing, experience to gallop into the waters.

And as hard as it may be to believe, it thunders too. It's like listening to a herd of 1000 or more buffalo or horses running around the plains. I've never seen anything like it. Hidalgo shook again, loosing more water droplets and drying his coat a little more, before turning his attention back to her. I'm sure one day, you will get to see it. You will find someone who will go with you, for you at least have to see it once, even just to know what I am speaking of. Staying safe is always nice tooo, but you never get to live, or experience many new things. He turned his head to momentarily scratch with his teeth an old scar on his shoulder, where a branch had impaled him. He had been limping for over a week because of it. His ears had stayed on her the entire time though, to show that he was still listening.

Mind you, staying in one place could also mean that you don't have as many scars, but I take them as a sign that I've lived. He lifted his muzzle from his shoulder, and tossed his medium-length brown and white mane from one side of his head to the other. The scars from the small wounds, and the large. They are all signs to me, that someone has lived their life, wether it have been good times, and you got the scar from play, or bad times, when you've gotten your scars from preditor attacks. Either way, you've lived, you've grown, and you've experienced. You are now wiser to the world. Hidalgo suddenly snorted in mirth, and lightly stomped a hoof. Listen to me. Here I go on and on like some silly new traveler. You would know these things.

Feathers ruffled, the mare enlightened to this new story of lands of water. And that it thundered like a living storm or hoof beats, the imagery of such a place was truly astounding. She'd never seen shade of anything like that out in these lands. Allowing a nod, Setsumi pulled herself away from the picture forming in her mind of such a place. "Ah, yes. That I must see in my lifetime. I'd be a fool not to seek it out."

Setsumi quirked a brow though as Hidalgo shifted topic, while turning his head to some other attention. Leaning somewhat, she was able to see that he was tending to an aging scab upon his shoulder. A suggestion was to be made, but she held her tongue as the other continued speaking. "Never get to live? Is that what you call it?" She took offense once again to something that wasn't aimed to her. Still, it bothered her to think such a majority of outsiders considered her lifestyle to be...dull. In lack of better terms. "Then I've experienced well enough to know I prefer this safer life, if scars speak at all." Her feathered back did well to grow over the reminder of her wanderings. She didn't think herself strong enough to endure another scarring, even if it was small. Perhaps some in play, but another in distrust? It would distraught her beyond repair.

"Either case, if you enjoy what you do then continue. At least you're somewhat prepared of what to expect and how to react."

Hidalgo shook his head; throwing his mane over his eye slightly. I am never prepared for what happens. It seems that whenever I think I can predict the outcome of something, it changes somehow, and I'm forced into a situation that I know nothing about. And once again, I find myself in new territory. He lifted his hoof from the soft ground, and found a small indent the shape of his hoof. Water slowly seeped into the hoof print, and before long, there was a small hoof-shaped puddle.

Setsumi could only nod. "Ah, I guess none of us can be absolutely ready. But at least you have experienced more to have a better understanding of things and how they work." Her eyes scanned to his hoof print, deeper and larger than her own dainty legs could make. "But so long as you bring no danger to 'my' territory, there will be no problems crossing here."

He shook his head, and blew a small puff of air lightly from his nose. No, I mean no harm. I'm just passing through to find another destination somewhere and someplace, maybe meet a few more individuals, and then probably move off again. Or maybe this time find some place on the plains to somewhat call my own, and settle for a time before roaming again. He swished his tail quickly to deliver a slightly stinging blow to his hip, but the biting fly had been squished; leaving a small darker spot on his coat with a little leg sticking up from the mass of goo. You'd be surprised how many take offense at a lone traveler coming through their lands. They think I'm either trying to steal it from them, or I'm trying to steal mares from them. When the truth is, I'm just passing through. Being friendly does not mean I'm trying to steal someone away, or become companions with a mare.

"Aye." Just a traveler minding his own business. And of course moving land to land meant meeting and leaving many a faces. Long mane shaded her eyes as Setsumi stood quietly in thought. "Settle for a time? In other words, just a traveling break." Not quite calling something home, just relaxing for awhile.

Brows lifted to the slapping of the fly, but she ignored it all the same. Seemed all soquili suffered from the occasional fly. Then she blinked again. "Well...I can understand the threat of lost land. Like how I reacted to you. But stealing mares? That's new to me." Must have been herd concerns. Being a herd member must be more important, or perminant, than she thought. "Amazing, it makes it sound like kindness is a crime."
PostPosted: Sun Aug 03, 2008 9:10 pm

Hidalgo nodded. Yes. Just basically a traveling break. He sensed there was some inner turmoil to this mare that he had met, but he wasn't sure how to bring it up, or how to help her. Though, it was probably not his place to. But he never did like leaving someone in distress, even if he had just met them.

In some ways, I think it is. Though it will never stop me. I know who I am, and what I am. You may think what you like about me, but I know I would never steal a mare or do something that went against my nature, or that would bring serious harm to someone that I have no quarrel with unless it was in my defense. And any who have traveled with me, do it because they want to. I don't drag anyone unwillingly along.

"Sounds like a good plan. Sensible too." The mare flicked her tail as she stood, slowly backing away from the river as her hooves seemed to seep in the mud. She snirked lightly though as Hidalgo spoke. "Never stop you? You made it sound like one of those 'competitions' you mentioned earlier. Just what are they exactly?" She was begining to lighten up, a good sign.

"Then your nature is a good one. I find it agreeable." Otherwise she would feel so anxious with a deviant soquili roaming her woodlands.
