Kaleb was surprised to find himself suddenly involved in a card game, the last time he had played with anyone was probably Go Fish way back when he was only little. "I-I think I've got it," he replied, looking at his own cards.

"Now's where you look at what you've got... And figure out whether or not you want to take a chance. Do you think you're close enough to twenty-one to beat what I have... Or do you want to draw another card?" His brow lofted slightly as he sat back. "Me... I'm stayin' right where I am this time."

Kaleb frowned. Garin looked confident, and he wasn't so sure he liked what he had so far... So he took another card. "So it's all luck?" He asked, before glancing at his new card.

"All about luck... Unless the dealer doesn't shuffle well enough, then it's about paying attention to what's been used and what hasn't been." He smirked as he laid his cards out on the table for Kaleb to see. "Seventeen."

"Oops..." Kaleb muttered when he added up his hand and set it down, the total being somewhat higher than 21. "I think I lost," he said, grinning sheepishly. For all that fancy shuffling he suspected it was just poor luck, so he didn't feel badly about it.

"Care to give it another go?" His brow lofted slightly as he gathered the cards up again, starting to shuffle them once more. Even if Kaleb said 'no' to another round he might as well shuffle them... He'd play a game by himself in that case.

"I-if you want to play again," Kaleb offered, as simple as the game was he would probably forget how to play if he only did it once. "I-I should put the ice pack back first though," he muttered, getting up and limping over to the fridge to do just that. His leg had stiffened up while he had been sitting around ignoring it, and he was sorely tempted to just heal it.

He glanced up at Kaleb as he moved, shuffling the cards one more round before dealing out two a piece. "... If you're so good with injuries... Why haven't you taken better care of your own?"

The little mage winced, more from the question than the walking. "I-I am taking care of it, that's what the ice was for." He flopped back down in his chair and glanced at the cards he had been given as he tried to make his wings comfortable again. "If I mess up in practice, healing the injury is as good as saying it doesn't matter that something got past my guard. I can survive a lot, but real dangers aren't as forgiving as animated gym equipment." For once he wasn't blushing and stuttering, as weak-looking as he was, he took his job seriously.

Kaleb followed suit, taking another card for himself. "Ice isn't as effective as a Cure spell, it will take some time to heal naturally." He would probably have an awful bruise there for a few days to remind him of his error, but at least his research wasn't something he needed to be on his feet for.

Kaleb picked another card. He wasn't sure if Garin was pushing him out of concern or just for the sake of conversation, the little mage could only hope it wasn't out of doubt for his skill. "Some lessons work best when they are given time to sink in," he replied, still sounding pretty sure that his unhealed aches were indeed lessons rather than punishments.

"It won't keep me from doing my job," Kaleb replied with a smile, mistaking Garin's advice to be about work. The little mage had always been better at taking care of others than taking care of himself, it was logical for him to put his magic and research before his own wellbeing. He laid down his own cards. "What happens if it's a tie?"
