As Tavarii joined her she took a step to the side not wanting to be any wetter. She looked at him and couldn't help but laugh a little. He looked a bit silly standing there, sopping wet, smelling her latest find.
"D'ya think so?" She asked looking down at it, head tilted casually to the side. She hadn't considered what it could possibly become she just knew it was shiny and nice to look at. That meant it was probably worth something and was worth taking. She supposed the same thing could be said about boys. If they were nice to look at they were worth taking.
Her jaw went slackened slightly as she spaced out. For some reason this picture of Tavarii in a tree being guarded by a pack of wild squirrels. She stared at the image in her mind for a very long time unable to get over the weirdness of it. When she decided to rejoin Tavarii in the land of reality she still had the same mildly confused look on her face.
"Ya don't know any squirrels d'ya?" She asked, not realizing how utterly bizarre the question was.

He didn't mind her moving away; he didn't blame her any! He was utterly soaked and half-tempted to rub his head against her side just to wetten her more, but decided against it when she spoke.
"Yes, I think so," he grinned back. "Get one'a the Indian-people to do it for ya! They could put it on a necklace." He could see her wearing it now; a black silk necklace draped around her neck so that the ruby hung, quite perfectly, in the middle of the butterfly.
And...she was dozing out. His head cocked to one side, he moved towards the river and shook, then rejoined her when she spoke again.
"...Squirrels? The little fuzzy things in trees?" He blinked. Why would squirrels matter? What was going on in that head of hers!?! "No, not personally, haha!"

"No?" She shrugged and did her best to completely wipe the image from her memory. If he didn't know any squirrels then there was no way he was their treasure. "Well...if ya ever meet some...don't tell em 'bout me okay?" She nodded then decided it was time to put the furry creatures out of her mind. To do this she decided to go back to their earlier conversation, the one that he was talking about as she spaced out.
She wasn't sure asking the two-leggers for a favor was such a good idea. She hadn't taken much from them but she imagined that even the little things here and there hadn't left them with such a good impression of her. "Maybe you could get them to do it for me?" She asked batting her eyelashes.
"I don't think the two-leggers would like me hangin around..."

He wondered why she was so worried about squirrels, but he gave a good-natured laugh and shrugged. "Okay! No worries; I won't recruit you to any squirrel-clans, Angel."
Tavarii, of course, knew nothing of her hijinx. To him, she was perfect, thief or no thief. He tossed up his head, ready to accept her challenge when he realized what she was saying. W-What? Humans? But they were...hideous...
He blanched and shifted his weight. "Weeeeellllllll... I don't...I mean... You're awesome and beautiful and... I'm digging myself a grave," he finished, dropping his head. "Humans are...scary, Carmine."

She tilted her head to the side looking a bit confused. He was scared of humans? She supposed everyone had to be scared of something, she was afraid of falling, her dad was afraid of her uncle, her mother was...that didn't matter. But to be afraid of humans? That seemed a little silly, they were everywhere after all.
She giggled lightly and shook her head. "There's nothin to be scared of. They're just a buncha funny lookin' skins." Carmine smiled at him then leaned down to pick up the little red stone. If he didn't want to go deal with the two-leggers she wasn't going to make him. She'd find someone else. If it came down to it she'd just go bribe her father into doing it. She nosed the pouch back open and dropped the stone back into it.
"And if you're scared of somethin just tell me next time kay? I might laugh a bit but I won't make fun of ya. Ya don't gotta try t'hide stuff from me."

He held his head low for a moment, then his ears pricked up as she reached for the stone. With a snort, he lunged forwards, hooves landing where the stone was seconds before. His nostrils flared. "N-No! I'm not afraid of them." There was a fire in his eyes that was new to even -him-.
With a huff, he shook his head. "I'm not afraid," he repeated with a stamp of his hoof. "They're just...hideous..."
Tavarii shivered, his tail flicking back and forth. They were just flesh-balls... Ugly, disgusting, hideous fleshballs with no fur and no hooves...
"They're ugly. That's all. I'll get them to make you a necklace!"
With a nicker, he nipped up the gem in his mouth and took off with a grin.
He'd do this. For her, and only her. And then he'd have nightmares.

She took a few steps back, brown eyes wide with surprise. She hadn't expected him to act like that and she really hadn't expected what he said. "You don't like them cause they're ugly?" She asked sounding as surprised as she looked.
She could kind of understand where he was coming from. The two-leggers were pretty creepy looking. She was about to voice this when he nicked her jewel and ran off.
"Hey!" She called taking off after him. It felt like she had just been robbed. She knew she hadn't but it still felt that way. "Goof! D'ya even know where you're going?" She asked wishing that she had spent less time flying and more time running. She had forgotten how slow of a runner she was compared to those without wings.

He whinnied around the gem in his mouth, legs stretching out into a lope, feeling free and easy. The wet that he once was was quickly drying, leaving his coat a little stiff to the touch. If he had wings, he could brush it back, but he'd have to roll it flat.
Did he know where he was going? No. He was on a mission, though, and nothing (save a Kalona or Skinwalker, the creepy bastards) would stop him!
Ears pricked and with a snort, he stopped dead. There. Right ahead was a village. Not just any village, but one he'd seen Merlei wander with her boyfriend. So...probably a nice place. Merlei didn't do danger and neither did Ciardha.
Dropping the gem at his feet, he looked up at where Carmine would pull up beside him and he grinned. "Nope, I didn't, but look where we end up, Angel!"

She followed after him as best as she could. She would jump every now and again with her wings spread wide to cover more distance. When she finally caught him he had stopped. "Where...?" She looked out ahead of them and something clicked.
"The...village..." She said sounding somewhat less then thrilled. Her brown eyes scanned the area quickly and she let out a sigh of relief. Good. There was no sign of any of them. That was good, she wasn't sure how well anyone would handle her being there right now.
"I know ya don't like humans...but is there any chance ya know someone who can turn it into a necklace?" She asked quickly sounding a bit nervous.

He laughed as she came up beside him, nipping at her cheek playfully. He noticed her glancing around, but thought nothing of it. Who was he to blame her for something, afterall?
"You really think I'd nick your gem and run all the way here just to turn away? I'm getting you a necklace, end of story!" He stamped a hoof to prove it.
"Stay here. I'll be back. If I don't return in an hour...assume the worst and run," he murmured, dramatically throwing his head back. "Run fast and far. Or fly. That works too."
And with that, he picked up the gem and trotted into the clearing to find someone.

She shrugged. Honestly she didn't know what he was planning to do with her gem. All she knew was that he wanted to make a necklace for her. there were a lot of ways to do that. "Okay okay. End of story...but...if ya see someone in there that kinda looks like me. Don't talk to her."
She really didn't want to sit out like this, it wasn't fun, but there was no way she was setting foot in that village. Giving one more look at the many teepees and Tavarii's retreating form she went to find somewhere to lay low.
"Can't believe I'm doing this." She huffed laying down. She unfolded her black wings using them to cover her sides. If any of them did come out here she didn't want to be recognized immediately.
Carmine was by no stretch of the imagination a coward but there were somethings she was not about to face any time soon.

His ears pricked up as he walked, unsure of what to expect. What if something popped out at him...? One of -them-?
Tav took a deep breath and continued. His sister wasn't afraid of them; he wouldn't be either. And besides, this was for CARMINE; his angel.
But what had she meant by 'but...if ya see someone in there that kinda looks like me. Don't talk to her.'? Was it a sister or something? Was that why Carmine didn't try and join him or get her own necklace made, for fear of being spotted?
Not that it mattered.
Something was watching him...something with no hair.
Nostrils flaring, Tav placed the gem on the ground and backed away like a scared rabbit. The flesh-ball started forwards, crooning in a soft voice, but the words were inhuman. Or at least non-horse. She picked the red gem up, half the size of her hand, and looked at him.
Tavarii could only stare at her.
And then follow her as she walked off.
~ Half an hour later and never seeing the someone that Carmine was afraid of, he pranced back out of the village and dropped the gem at his partner-in-crime's feet.
And the gem was attached to a soft silk necklace that, when hung around Carmine's neck, would hand perfectly in the middle of her butterfly.

Carmine had dozed off in the warm sunlight. She didn't dream of anything but she started to her the sound of someone approaching. She opened her eyes as the sound grew louder until it stopped. She jumped slightly as something fell in front of her. She stared at the object for a while, her half asleep mind unable to process what was going on.
After a few moments a grin spread across her face and she looked up finally having everything put together. "Ya got it!" She said cheerfully getting to her feet. "And it's beautiful! Wow..." She continued to stare at it admiring how lovely it was. The black and silver complimented the shining red gem beautifully. If she had thought the gem alone was a treasure this was like a small pile of gold and jewels.
After a few more minutes of admiration she looked up and gave Tavarii a huge smile. "Thank you! It's so pretty!" She exclaimed before rubbing against him. "But...ya didn't see anyone did ya...?"

He laughed at the look on her face. She doubted he'd get it? "Of course!" he barked happily, neck arching. "I told ya I'd get it!"
He let himself take a break from being on edge, his ears swiveling forwards to focus on Carmine and the little gem at her feet.
It was, indeed, a gorgeous little gem, and the human flesh-ball had made it prettier if that was possible. And Carmine would make it prettier than that!
"Nope, no one... Why? Who was supposed to be there, Angel?" He gazed at her through his bangs.

She shook her head and stepped back. "Just...some people that don't need t'see me is all." She said trying to make it clear that she wasn't about to name names. She took another couple of steps and leaned down to pick up the pretty necklace. She stashed it in her pouch then looked up.
"We should get outta hear." She said with a shake of her head to settle her sleep mussed mane. "No reason t'stick around the two-leggers anymore." She checked the spot around where she had slept to make sure she had not dropped anything and gave on last look at the village. She saw nothing. Letting out another sigh of relief she flicked her tail and started off away from the village.
"C'mon goof. Let's go find somethin' to do."
