Adi gave one final big pounce in the mud before leading the way to the river south of the village. "Ah suppose we better get te it 'fore anyone notices ye're gone," she said with another cheeky smile like her father's. She flared out her tan and red tipped wings to give a few good flaps to remove any unwanted mud. The water would soak them. It was a good thing she didn't have the hang of flying down then! "Com'on. We'll get ye all clean now."

She giggled as more mud flew out and splattered against her. She didn't quite understand why getting messy was so much fun but she enjoyed it. "Probably." She agreed stepping out of the muck to follow the winged filly. She jumped back slightly as the mud flew off from her beating wings. She thought they were going to take a bath? Why was she getting the mud off that way? It didn't make much sense but she said nothing just gave her friend a strange look.
"You aren't going to get clean as well?" She asked not sure she had understood the other filly correctly. Was that why she had just flung the dirt off? She wasn't going to get in the water as well? Wouldn't her parents get angry at her for coming home messy?

She was wagging her pale tail behind her happily as she turned her head back to look at her current playmate. "'Course, but Ah dun want t'e get mah wings soaked. If they get t'e wet then Ah won't be able t'e fly. 'Course, Ah'm not that good at flyin' yet, but it's always better t'e think 'boot it."

Ijn's head tilted far to the side in confusion. She didn't know a thing about flying it seemed. She had always assumed that they could fly no matter what their wings were like. Somehow it didn't make sense to her that something so amazing as flight had limits.
Straighting back up she fixed a smile back on her face. She was disappointed to learn that having wings didn't mean you no longer had to follow any real rules. It wasn't her friends fault, though, and she didn't want her to know that this information upset Ijn. "So I'll get clean...and then I guess I should look for Amal...I guess." She said changing the subject to take her mind off things.

"Well, nothing says ye 'ave te go back like a good lil'filly. Eventually, ye'll 'ave te make ye're own way in life and why no' start today," she said grinning. She was completely oblivious to the impact her words might have on the other girl as the sound of the water got louder.
She spread her pale wings wide and waded into the water, trying her best to keep the feathers dry as she let the mud wash off of her. It felt wonderful to have a good soak after such a joyful, but hot day.

She didn't have to go back? Her expression twisted into mild confusion. Of course she had to go back. She had to see her mother, her father, her sister and brother again. She looked at the winged filly heading into the water and followed after still puzzling over things.
"I have to make my own why?" She asked staring down at the water that surrounded her. The surface was becoming cloudy and brown from the mud and it trembled with every slight movement made. "I can't just stay with my parents and my brother and sister?" It seemed rather odd to her. After all her father and mother had always told her she would have a place with them. She didn't think they were lying but she couldn't imagine her new friend lying to her either.

She kicked her little hooves against the river's bottom, making sure not to go to far out where she might sink and get all wet. But she did dunk her head into the water and pull it back out, shaking her short little mane and spraying water everywhere.
"Well, ye dun wan'te be with 'em all yer life, do ye?" Her family had indeed been different, allowing their children to spread their wings but remaining as a beacon for them to return home. Perhaps hers was the oddity. "Ah mean, 'ow else are ye te learn neything?"

Her face was unusually serious as she thought over what her friend was saying. She thought she wanted to be with them her whole life. It was safe with them. Thinking this over she bent her knees slightly so that the water would wash over her back to wash anything off of it. "I don't know..." She answered. "I'm learning a lot from my dad and mom..."
She straightened up and shook herself a little bit. "Well...what would I do if I left?" She asked looking to the other filly for guidance. She seemed to know about heading off on her own after all. "I mean...I'm pretty happy just being with my family. Is there anything else out there better?"

A few water droplets ran down her face when she turned to look back and Ijn and the most mischievous grin present. "Oh Ah'm sure yer parents will eventually 'ave ye find out what t'e vast world can 'old. Of course, they'll wan'te make sure that no 'arm comes to ye. Te shelter ye from seeing something they dun."
Of course, she did have an older sister that was off wandering the lands. "Ah'm sure yer parents would be just like mine 'n would welcome ye home no matter where ye go." In truth, her parents had said the same about Vidia--even if the leaving was done harshly and in anger. "Mah father talks of t'e ocean with water as far as t'e eye can see. Fields of grass and sand. There are wonders te behold."

An odd half smile set itself on her face. Her parents wanted to keep her safe, she knew that much, they gave her shelter and kept her warm but they hadn't really ever spoken about what lay on the outside. She had never heard of the ocean or fields of anything. She only knew of a few paths in the forest that took her from her home to a river, Amal's play place, and out to the two-leggers village. Her father didn't seem to want her to know that there was anything else out there. Of course she would always be welcomed home, she never really went anywhere.
"Your parents sound like wonderful people..." She said wishing for a moment that hers were the same way. She loved her parents with all her heart but with what this filly was telling her there was so much more. Maybe it was all scary though? Maybe that was why her father kept her close. Maybe the exploration of places was just something that winged ones did? Maybe. She didn't know and probably would never know.

She didn't see Ijn's reaction as she drove her head under the water one more time. "Oh, sure'nough they're really great, but they get that weird look in their eyes and mah sisters and I are 'eading fer t'e 'ills. Parents can be really queer, ya'know." She moved closer to the banks flicking her tail, which defeated the purpose of her keeping her feathers dry.
"'Nyways, we should prolly 'ead on back. Just make sure ye make yer own decisions. It's yer life 'nyways." She spread her little wings out, looking them over. "Aww, Ah got'em wet."

Parents were queer? She had never heard an expression like that before. Thinking about it Ijn came to the conclusion that it meant parents were strange. She had to agree. With a little sigh she watched as the winged filly made her way towards the shore. Ijn followed. The water had done wonders getting the mud off of her coat but there was no point staying in it if her friend was leaving.
She climbed out of the water and looked at Tsis. "Yeah...yeah..." Her already bright eyes were shining more. What the other said, it was smart. It was Ijn's life, she would make her own choices. Right now, the obvious choice was to do what she had been told. It was high time she went back to wait for Amal. "You know...you could run around for a while, it should dry your wings off." She offered with a smile.
For a moment she stayed in place just looking at the winged one then after a while she gave a little bow of her head. "Maybe we'll see each other again?" She was hopeful about this but didn't really wait for an answer. Amal was probably waiting for her. So with another smile and another bow she turned and headed back to where she and Tsis had met. The day had been fun but it was time to go home.
