Actually, scratch that. Well, some of that lol, not all of it.
Aura is a representation of the child that he wishes he could have had. It all makes sense. he wanted to create a child with Emma, but he never could, so he created a virtual girl, who would grow and develop just like a normal girl, being influenced by the world and everything around her. Except this one is influenced by The World, and by the players who she interacts with.

I can't see how this could exactly connect with Harald, or his relationship to Emma. Except perhaps with the concept that people have joined the game, and Tarvos is the representation of a desire to destroy them somehow?
Corbenik - The Rebirth, appears from the void left in the aftermath of the Wave.
A sign that everything is cyclical, and it will all begin anew. Much like it does in The World on several occasions. I connect this one with The Key of the Twilight a bit, actually.
Tarvos, in my point of view, was probably created to avenge Emma's death or something similar to that.
Corbenik was probably created to bring back the Morgonna Code or Aura they ever died.
Aura does get her personality from other players that wander in her home and maybe, like the original .hack// games said, that Aura was the child of Emma and Harald? Think of it like this: Herald created The World so he could get away from his lovers death and the world's "evilness". He created Aura so he would have some memory of Emma thus the Eight Phases were being created during the time span Aura was "sleeping", .hack//SIGN, to the part where they were chasing her, .hack// video games. Also there was probably another reason the Eight Phases were created, well actually two. The First reason is that they probably helped The World maintain its status being based on The Legend of Twilight poem. The other reason is that they present a humans life.
Skeith the Terror of Death:
Humans are afraid of death, some say they can stare it in the eye, but we are afraid of it because it something we can rarely think about.
Innis the Mirage of Deceit
People narutally lie to get what they want. Innis can make copies of its self and lie about it too, thus twins came into th world.
Magus the Propagation
Magus could reproduce alot of the same stuff like a factory. Factories make stuff so people can live longer and make the military stronger in times of war and such.
Fidchell the Prophet
Fidchell can read a persons future like gypsy's or furution tellers. So he gives out messages about darkened futures.
Gorre the Machinator
Gorre is a strategist behind the wave like you said. Humans are descent strategist at times too like during football games, meetings for making better products, and stuff like that.
Macha the Temptress
Macha represents the charm, seduction, whatever you want to call it inside humans. There are reasons why Macha looks the way she does, also why is she a girl? It is because over the two genders in the human race, the females show more seduction to their counter parts, the males. Humans in other words Quote: Humans charm the other gender so they can live together.
Tarvos represents the revenge we have when we lost something or someone we love dearly. Tarvos in The World, like I said before, represents the avenger side in Herald. He wanted to avenge her death or at least do something to make up for it. Thus The World was created.
Corbenik the Rebirth
Corbenik the Rebirth... You know how Shino died and it seemed that Atoli helped Haseo refill the void in his heart, well if you think about life is all about rebirth. Like in the Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel, Armory died and came back to life in a different form that only Edward probably saw because the both of them were in a rush to get to Central. That is under the same lines as Shino's character died and Atoli came and looked similar to Shino's PC. That is the basic of life, Rebirth. So Ovan in the 3rd game reconnected The World in which he risked his life. He did this so all of the Lost Ones could come back and play the game with their friends.

You do have a valid point that each avatar or wave is a representation of the many feelings he had, thus making them. But, now here is my next question to you, why make 8 different things with a seperate feeling and not just one?
And!
Instead of making 8, why didnt he just make 1? Or if he did, is this one monster with all of these powerful emotions Cubia?

Cubia is the Anti-Exsistance of the Eight Phases.
So Cubia is the dark side that resides in a humans heart.
I'm not a genius I'm only making educated guesses.
Though if I had to guess why Emma wrote Eight Phases... is probably because a human goes through the Eight Phases in life...?
We might not realize it at all because we are all living the way we want to live and believe what we think is right.

That's what I thought because everyone goes through the phases of love(Macha) and then there's war(Skeith); then there's mimicry(Innis); Power of Duplication(Magus); then there is the dark future or past that comes back to hunt you every once in a while.(Fidchell); We all end up thinking of strategies for something, right?(Gorre); Everyone goes through the stage of an avenger or revenge.(Tarvos); and then when humans die, sometimes the familiar faces come back to the new world as a different person thus the rebirth(Corbenik).

I still don't think Macha is as positive an idea as "love". Seduction very clearly has a negative connotation here, because it is tied to the word "trap." So i wouldn't say it means ideal love, but almost something pertaining more to lust.
Also, I would say Duplication would involve how we put on different faces in different settings. We are different people in front of our parents than in front of our co-workers, or our friends, or strangers, etc. And we are all very capable of projecting images we have in our minds onto individuals around us, be it the mother who sees herself in her daughter, or the lover who sees a God in the beloved, things along those lines. We create falsehoods in our lives by giving people images that perhaps don't match how they actually are, thereby forcing a lie into being.
And Rebirth. How we tend to find someone to fill the void when we lose a loved one? We find someone else to fill that place in our hearts, without even knowing it. We don't notice we do it, but we create a rebirth for that person by putting them in someone else.

Hm, I always thought of Propagation more as reproduction.. the Duplication is the thing that the Mirage one does, right? Or wait, I don't remember now.. D:

Duplication could refer to when we are young, we copy our parents behaviors and mimic their moves.
They may not all be in order but they do happen.
As for Macha, that could be interpreted as us bringing others into our lives as partners or just seduction; sex.
The anti existance could have been emmas way of calling it quits, saying that she hates these emotions, thus they are sent after humanity, and her own way of "giving us the bird"
