Actually, i don't dress the way i do because i'm a wiccan. In fact, not very many people know that i'm a wiccan. Nobody asks. I just wear a t-shirt (usually featuring some kind of band, a superhero, or an anime; Right now it's speed racer), a pair of comfortable jeans (usually straight-legged and buttonfly) and a pair of comfy shoes (like vans or Converse).

On occasion, i'll break out my plaid tripp pants and boots, but not becasue i'm wiccan. Just because dressing like that is fun, and i enjoy it.

I feel compelled to dye my hair blue because my Dad hates it, lol. I'm not compelled to wear anything because of our religion, but I DO love my Harley Davidson Jacket~<3

I can honestly say that Wicca does not influence my dress. I dress according to mood, so usually you can find me in jeans and a band t-shirt with arm warmers and chokers. Why? Because thats what I like. I am going to make a Goddess pendant for my choker but thats only because I want to, not because I feel the need too.

The only object I really wear that is Wicca-related is a necklace that I have, but that is it. I don't dress a certain way for any reason other than I like it, and I like the necklace by the way, it's not just for the sake of religion. I'm the kind of person who wears bright colors on one day and all black the next, it really doesn't matter to me as long as I like it.

How I dress depends on my mood I suppose.

Being Wiccan doesn't affect the way I dress... on a day to day basis. When doing ritual I usually take what I'm wearing into consideration. Don't need any long, billowy sleeves going up in flames from the candles! blaugh

Other than that, I dress in whatever feels comfortable.

I believe the ones you speak of are actually wannabees who are only into both Goth and Wicca, because of either the shock or coolness value.

rofl Too True-Too True!! Espically in winter, outside, during the full moon! (no disrespect intended)
I think that the "Goth" thing really is just pop-withces not those of us who feel this path deeply. I've been at this for a long time and as I've grown up myself some things about my personal style have changed. Here where I live the general populations dress is absoutley defined buy their beliefs (Utah). I guess I try to avoid that. I do wear a pentacle/Goddess necklace and pentacle ring pretty much all the time, they are protective and not really fashion. Occassionally someone will comment on them. It is usually another one of us in the sea of Mormons just saying "Hi." I think that is a good thing-we both get to feel connected for a minute.

Errr....no.

Wicca doesn't have anything to do with what I wear, and vice versa. The way that I dress usually reflects my inner interests and personality, I guess. I like flowy, sort of "hippyish" things with earthy colors, but I'm into other things as well. I also like purple and darker colors, as well as skirts and dresses. Sometimes I wear shirts with fairies on them. Usually I dress fairly ordinary or laid back. I like pretty jewelry and hats, but nothing tacky. I don't dye my hair or cut it and it goes down to my butt. It's blond. People tell me I look like a hippy/fairy/stoner/something else xD I hope that doesn't sound cliche or fall into the category you're talking about, or that I'm somehow contributing towards this problem.

Still, my style doesn't have anything to do with Wicca. I wear a pentacle on some occasions, and I also have a ring with a moon and two triquetras. But it's not for fashion. That's as far as that goes.

When it comes down to it, I wear what I feel like. Wicca isn't a fashion statement :/ I don't see how this is a high-content discussion. I just think that the way people dress can sometimes reflect their interests and attitude towards life. Usually it's just what's comfortable for them.

I believe its a high content discussion because it deals with our beliefs and the way people can view them in such a shallow view. It not only deals with the way outside people view and percieve us, but how we periceve and rpesent ourselves. Sorry if you disagree.

And I would also like to adress one more thing that is coming up throughout this topic.

I absolutely agree that what I mentioned is a steriotype. That is why I made this topic, to adress the steretype.

Other then that, I am really just asking that question. If what you wear is infulenced by your beliefs, and I've seen that the majority of answers are no. And that most of the people who let Wicca effect the way the dress are wannabee's.

Which, for the most part I agree with.

I think that for the most part the majority of the "wiccans" who "dress up" on a day to day basis are doing it just for show. More than likely they are either dabbling or are just looking for a reaction. Having said that...when it comes to rituals I think that being Wiccan definitely affects how you dress at those times. Many traditions have specific robes, or go skyclad. Solitaries will often have something special that they wear only for ritual work. Having something that you only wear on Sabbats or for rituals or spell working, is a additional "magical" tool. Often when preparing for rituals, we will take a ritual bath to help cleanse away any residual negative energies that may be lingering and to purify us for the workings we will be doing. If you have gone to all that trouble...why would we then put on our everyday clothes that also carry residual energies from everything we just washed off ourselves...we wouldn't.

Is the Burt's Bees stuff really good?

I used to sell Burt's Bees in my shop - I have sat in on several product seminars that the company used to put on. I loved the stuff!! However, something interesting to note is that they were somewhat recently bought out by the Clorox company. How that will affect the integrity of their products, I really can't say, but I have never known such things to go well.

Lol. Umm about the first quote (see above) what if I'm not Gardnerian Wiccan? what if I'm the old school kind? I might not see the answers on this thread, best to PM me...

I make a statement with what I wear! Today's statement: At some point in time, I went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Montreal Canada. (Note, that wasn't serious input... But I was wearing a Hard Rock Cafe tee today... XD)

Anyway, point being, I don't base what I wear off of being Wiccan. But I kind of want a pentacle... /doesn't have one... XP/
For some reason, I've always wanted to dress in like... Victorian era type clothing, with all the pretty lace and stuff... /fantasizes.../

HarryDresden, what do you mean by the "old school kind"? Gardnerian Wicca was the original tradition of Wicca.

Oh Em Jesus, I wasn't thinking about that very much before, but I saw what you meant after it was discussed more.

I believe its a high content discussion because it deals with our beliefs and the way people can view them in such a shallow view. It not only deals with the way outside people view and percieve us, but how we periceve and rpesent ourselves. Sorry if you disagree.

I wasn't disagreeing. I was saying that what I believe doesn't generally influence what I wear. I was 'that way' BEFORE claiming Wicca.

Oh Em Jesus
I absolutely agree that what I mentioned is a steriotype. That is why I made this topic, to adress the steretype.

Re-thinking this though, before I started studying wicca, my fascination with ghosts and the occult was relatively high. I don't think that it's fair to 'stereotype' anyone, but by the same token as well, I don't think it's really cool to knock someone for dressing a certain way. People who have gusto in celebrating their celtic heritage wear kilts. Some get knotwork tattoos. And people don't think that's weird. rolleyes

Anyone who would judge a person by what they wear instead of listening to what they have to say is shallow anyway, and I wouldn't accept their opinions on that merit alone. Which is to say that those who stereotype individuals without experiencing that group as a whole, or develop relationships with several people in that group to be able to form an opinion of a 'stereotype', really isn't worth listening to anyway - it shows they'll ASSume anything.

Oh Em Jesus
Other then that, I am really just asking that question. If what you wear is infulenced by your beliefs, and I've seen that the majority of answers are no. And that most of the people who let Wicca effect the way the dress are wannabee's.

And you know, earlier, I said no. But wearing a pentacle right there says yes, doesn't it?

People let their faith and culture influence them in many ways, not just in fashion. There are varying degrees of influence. Sometimes the extremists kind of get to me (Ever see the magazine New Witch?) because they can detract from the seriousness and depth of some really good scholars. But you've got your wierdoes in every bunch, don't you? twisted

There are a few things that I simply can't do without. Necklaces. But not just regular ones, no every necklace I have is a natural stone, save my claddaugh, given to me by someone who cares about me. My favorites would be my amethyst pendant and my jade ring pendant. It's something that can affect my mood (it's all psychological I know, but that doesn't matter). As for what I wear, it's comfy.
