She gave him a nod before turning away from that entire depressing subject entirely. If she continued to dwell on it, she'd be mournful all night and that would be no fun at all. Instead she steeled herself and let her daytime cheerfulness bubble up. "Re~ally."
The tiny mare drew out the 'e' noise and stepped into the moonlight, dancing around to look at him face to face. Her head cocked to the side and she looked him over again, eyes full of blatant curiosity. "And what else do you do, Ariston?" She danced backwards, trying to urge him to follow her into the moonlight. "Do you like to go for walks, do you like to hunt the sweetest apples and flowers?" She was pretty curious as to how he was 'involved' in mares lives... but that wasn't her business.
She stepped back another step, cocking her head playfully. "Come for a walk with me. The trees are nice, but so is this."

The conversation seemed to have shifted over to questions about him, and he followed her politely and shook his hair out as he moved. Maybe making him talk about himself would help her think about something else? Eh, whatever. It wasn't like he minded. He could talk about himself all day! But unfortunately for him, he wasn't the busiest of creatures. So he couldn't intrigue Selene with amazing answers! That didn't mean he couldn't have fun, though.
"Oh you know, I travel the world, save damsels in distresses, eat the finest of cuisines." he chuckled then and looked at her appropriately. Hey, he could totally pull those things off if he wanted to! "I'm kind of spontaneous, so things either come around or I do the quiet thing." Yeah, he wasn't nearly as social as he used to be. But he liked that lately.
"I've also been trying the 'grandfather' thing. It was hard enough being a father, but now I am totally enjoying having six grandchildren. It's like watching tons of kids without any of the stress I felt with my own daughter." Well, that was because Loveless was... an adventure in her youth. "Why, are going for walks and hunting for apples some of your favorite pastimes? They do sound quite comforting!"

She gave him a grin as they walked. "Damsels in distress, eh? Fighting dragons and foul beasts of all species everywhere?" By the way he shook his mane there mightn't be too much battle involved... but she had learned long ago not to judge based on appearance. "Spontaneity is good." She hadn't smiled this much in a long time. Of course, it had been a long time since she'd had someone to smile for. "And what do you deem the finest of cuisines?" She gave him a cautious, teasing look. "And would I find it as much a delicacy as you do?" He did look to be a kalona, after all. No such thing as being too cautious, as Calamity had taught her.
But she paused again, taking in the number of grandchildren he had just said he had. "Six grandchildren?" She whistled low, eyes shining brightly at him. "That's wonderful. And horrible; how do you keep up with them all?" Though he had a definite point about parenting being a stress; she'd do it again though.

Was Selene taking him seriously? Uh oh, that was no good. No one should take him seriously! That was the basic rule to Ariston-facts! "Oh, well I was kidding." he finally said, while glancing at her kindly. "But hey, I'd so save people if I could." Sometimes he honestly felt like he did help others, and maybe there were other times when he didn't even realize it. "As for food, I tend to eat everything. It would probably displease you to know that I do enjoy some meats. But I also enjoy searching for the finest fruits and veggies." He sighed and realized it had been awhile since he'd ventured out for some delicious fruit. "Why, what happens to be your favorite meal?" He then asked rather pleasantly.
When she commented on the grandchildren thing, he only puffed his shoulders out proudly. "I don't know what 'horrible' you speak of! And they are all grown up, venturing out and on their own. It's easy to keep up with them- they aren't hard to miss." Anyone carrying his and Guilian's genes were spotted from miles away. "But then again, admitting to grandchildren makes me helluva old, right?" he smiled at her and shrugged his shoulders a bit. "Honesty is usually the best. I think?"

She laughed lightly. "I was hoping you were kidding, but one can never be too cautious in the company of a stranger." she made her voice coy, fluttered her eyes playfully. "I'm a delicate lady, after all." and then she supressed her giggles at her own burst of playfulness. "As for you enjoying meats, I can't complain. I was raised- well, somewhat- by a kalona. Rather an odd situation there, he was my... my finder's? best friend, for a time." she shrugged. "Everyone has to live, as long as they aren't trying to eat me, to each their own." she stretched out her delicate limbs and pondered his question.
"Honeysuckle." she answered finally. "It makes me think of bees, and makes me think of Safi." she couldn't hide the fondness in her tone. "He's a friend of mine." she said after a moment, remembering that this stranger might not know of her own best friend.
"I'm a grandmother myself." Selene admitted finally. "Not that I look it, of course." she tossed her mane. "Honesty is best, but you won't get me to admit how old I am beyond my grandmother-hood."

Well now, she had been around Kalonas before? He knew there was something uncommon about her overall confidence around him. But all the same, she had admitted to be very confident right away, so perhaps that was as true as the grass between them. Either way he found it amusing. They were similar in that aspect of self loving.
"Well yeah, there are some that would eat you in an instant. But I find that sort of thing so vulgar. I always wonder if those monsters could dare eat their own children." He closed his eyes and shuddered at the thought. "Each should not be allowed some habits because they are just too distasteful." And distasteful was usually unattractive. He found that just horrible.
Ariston grinned again when he heard the mare's tone change at the mention of a stallion. Before he could really add some kind of snarky comment, she opened up about being a grandmother as well. Hah! They really looked too damn good for their ages. "For a mare with grandchildren, you look great. You should yell that proudly so younger mares get jealous. I find humor in that sort of thing. You mares are all so insecure in your own ways." He flicked his tail a bit and wondered if he'd get a rise out of that.
